Ep 340Jack Eichel's Perfect Trade Fit, Plus Best Sports Movies

E

It’s Casual Friday at Talking Buffalo Podcast and Patrick Moran is joined by sports writer and friend Joe Yerdon to discuss several topics, including what team he thinks is the perfect trade partner for the Buffalo Sabres to trade Jack Eichel to and why.NHL insider Elliotte Friedman said on his 31 Thoughts podcast this week that people are around the league are telling him to expect the Sabres to end up with two top 10 picks for next month’s NHL draft. With the Sabres already holding the top pick that likely means a team drafting high would be willing to move that selection in a package for potentially Eichel and/or Sam Reinhart. Joe goes in depth with three of those possible teams drafting high, including one picking in the top five that would likely present the Sabres with the best package back for their likely soon-to-be former captain. They also discuss Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reporting earlier in the week that the New Jersey Devils are definitely interested in Buffalo defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen. The guys also spend some time highlighting a few of their favorite annual Buffalo summer events in the wake of things beginning to open up more as people begin to move on for Covid. Joe sheds light on why he prefers Taste of Buffalo as his summer event of choice while they both agree that Wing Fest is overrated. They then move on to this week’s “Starting Five” draft and the topic is Sports Movies. Patrick won for a fourth consecutive week in last week’s Twitter poll, beating Joe 55%-45% in Fictional Sports Movie characters. Can Joe break the losing streak this time around? All this and much more. Ep 337Sabres Changes Are Coming, Plus Best Fictional Sports Movie Characters

E

It’s Casual Friday at Talking Buffalo Podcast and Patrick Moran is joined by sports writer and friend Joe Yerdon to discuss several topics, including big changes likely coming with the Buffalo Sabres organization this summer and their weekly “Starting Five” draft, this week consisting of the best fictional sports movie characters. It’s possible if not likely the Sabres will ultimately lift the interim tag and promote Don Granato to head coach soon enough, but it’s hardly expected to be the biggest Sabres news coming down the pike this summer. The chances of Jack Eichel remaining with Buffalo appear more bleak than ever, and Joe discusses an article he wrote on it earlier this week and explains why he thinks Eichel’s departure is imminent and it’s time for the organization to make the best out of losing their best player. They also discuss the strong probability of Sam Reinhart being gone and how convincing Reinhart Buffalo’s worth sticking around for would be the best thing Buffalo could accomplish this offseason. This week’s “Starting Five’ consists of fictional sports movie characters, and the guys have a huge talent pool to choose from. Joe tries to break a three-week losing streak that saw Patrick win convincingly with HBO Original Series and Gangster Movies the past few drafts. Spoiler alert--the guys both predict they're gonna killed by critical fans following these selections. All this and much more. E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a conversation with Steve Mathes of the Air Raid Hour, part of the Buffalo Fanatics network on a series of topics focused on the Buffalo Bills and weapons on the offensive side of the football. The Bills were rumored to be in the mix for wide receiver Julio Jones over the past few weeks but ultimately the former Atlanta Falcon was traded to the Tennessee Titans. It’s a move that doesn’t surprise either of the guys and they discuss the impact it likely has on the Titans and the rest of the AFC.They also spend time discussing the Bills offense, primarily second-year wide receiver Gabriel Davis before rating how they think Tennessee and other teams stack up in the AFC after Kansas City and Buffalo. Before diving into Julio Jones and football talk they spend some time talking about the Phoenix Suns, the sham of a “boxing’ exhibition between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul as well as a conversation about the success of the live YouTube shows on the Buffalo Fanatics network, including his own.You can follow Steve on Twitter @JudgeMathes and be sure to check out The Air Raid Hour alongside co-host David Tilton on both Mondays and Thursdays, live on their YouTube channel. ♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Twitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. E

It’s Casual Friday at Talking Buffalo Podcast and Patrick Moran is joined by sports writer and friend Joe Yerdon to discuss several topics, including Joe’s experience being among the first fans to attend a MLB game in Buffalo in 106 years this past week, the Buffalo Sabres winning the NHL draft lottery and their weekly “Starting Five” draft, this week consisting of mobster/gangster movies. The Toronto Blue Jays hosted Miami this Tuesday at Sahlen’s Field in downtown Buffalo. Joe breaks down what it was like to be in attendance at the ballpark in terms of Covid protocols, vaccinated versus non-vaccinated season and the overall vibe from the crowd witnessing their first taste of regular season MLB baseball in Buffalo. The guys also talk about the Sabres winning the lottery and if Joe’s leaning Owen Power or Matt Beniers with the first pick as well as discussion about plummeting Sabres TV ratings and what they can do to change that. From there they draft their “Starting Five” among mobster/gangster movies. After no surprises among the first three selections (Godfather 2, Godfather 1, Goodfellas) the selections get more unpredictable, with each guy taken at least one non-Italian mob movie as one of their five picks. All this and much more. Ep 333Joe Yerdon Talks Bills, Sabres & HBO Original Series

E

It’s Casual Friday at Talking Buffalo Podcast and Patrick Moran is joined by sports writer Joe Yerdon to discuss several topics, including a big controversy brewing with the Buffalo Bills involving Covid vaccination, the lack of public information regarding the Buffalo Sabres head coaching search and the weekly “Starting Five” draft, this week featuring original HBO series. It’s Casual Friday at Talking Buffalo Podcast and Patrick Moran is joined by sports writer Joe Yerdon to discuss several topics, including a big controversy brewing with the Buffalo Bills involving Covid vaccination, the lack of public information regarding the Buffalo Sabres head coaching search and the weekly “Starting Five” draft, this week featuring original HBO series.OTA’s began this week for the Bills and head coach Sean McDermott spoke to the media and was surprisingly candid on his views with the Covid vaccination. McDermott said he has been fully vaccinated as has Brandon Beane and the Pegula’s and made it clear he wants his players to be as well. However, Cole Beasley was very vocal about not getting Covid shots on Twitter a few weeks ago and there’s plenty of other hints that this is a divided issue among players. Joe offers his thoughts on this and if he thinks it could become a potential distraction this summer and possibly even until the regular season. They also touch on the Buffalo Sabres and the latest involving Don Granato and other potential head coaching candidates. This week’s “Starting Five” draft is HBO series---after Patrick gloats about winning last week’s TV Show Theme Songs draft. Can he make it two in a row?All this and much more. Ep 332Playing Devil's Advocate With The Bills

E

On this episode of the future-award winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a chat with friend and recurring guest Joe from Queens on a variety of topics highlighted by a discussion that intentionally plays devil’s advocate to the Buffalo Bills Super Bowl chances this coming season. The Bills went 13-3 last year, made the AFC championship game and by nearly all accounts are among the strongest favorites to represent the conference in the Super Bowl. However, whether fans like it or not there’s reasons that provide skepticism to the 2021 Bills and the guys dive into some worrisome items. Among them are questions on how much the offensive line, running backs and tight ends will improve given it’s essentially the same cast of characters returning, as well as questions about the short term pass rush and being seemingly poised to run it back with Levi Wallace at cornerback alongside Tre White. They also spend some time talking about fans once again making their presence felt at sporting events, examining whether Rueben Brown or Eric Moulds are more worthy of going into the Bills Wall of Fame and Joe has a take on Buffalo Bills/Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula. All that and much more. Ep 331Casual Friday: Buffalo vs Florida Dilemma, Plus TV Show Theme Songs Draft

E

It’s Casual Friday at Talking Buffalo Podcast and Patrick Moran is joined by sports writer Joe Yerdon to discuss several topics, including Patrick’s big dilemma over staying in Florida or moving back to Buffalo, if Buffalo could ever properly support a NBA or MLB franchise as well as their “Starting Five” draft of TV Show Theme Songs. After spending the past five years in Florida, Patrick’s at the point where he could move back to his hometown of Buffalo. It’s something he’s wanted to do for the past few years but in recent months he’s come to enjoy much more about Florida and more importantly his wife has built a nice career down in the sunshine state. Patrick forces Joe to play Dr. Joe and spills the details about his dilemma. On the heels of reports that the NBA plans on expanding, the guys have a discussion about if Buffalo could actually be a viable candidate for a franchise. They hit on the differences between fan support versus financial support and if a third major professional sports team could realistically exist in Buffalo. They conclude with this week’s “Starting Five” where the guys spend an unhealthy amount of time drafting their favorite TV Show Theme Songs and mentioning countless other shows that were worthy of making the cut.All this and much more. Bruce offers his thoughts on the picks both immediately after being made and now after having time to digest them. They also go over the current roster as things stand and discuss who may be on the outside looking in with the 53-man roster as the Bills suddenly have plenty of depth on both sides of the ball. They also have a talk about Bruce appearing on so many podcasts each week and the process of his time management to afford him the opportunity. Ep 327Joe Yerdon Talks Loaded Eichel Presser & More Sabres

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest, friend and sports media personality Joe Yerdon to discuss the Buffalo Sabres 2020-21 season, some of the player season-ending press conferences with the media on Monday and look into how he sees the offseason playing out on the heels of Jack Eichel's fiery presser.Don Granato led the Sabres to a 9-16-3 record in his 28 games as interim head coach after taking over for a fired Ralph Krueger, including a 9-11-2 record following the team’s epic 18-game winless streak. Beyond the wins and losses many of the younger players looked considerably better under Granato, leading several fans and media including Joe to conclude Granato deserves legitimate consideration to become the permanent head coach. Joe discusses why. However, that’s greatly overshadowed by Monday’s fiery Zoom pressers from several players, most notably Eichel who sounded like a franchise center incredibly open if not ready to become a former Sabres center soon. Joe has his thoughts on Eichel’s injuries this season and how the organization’s handling of them has put them in a lose-lose situation with an already frustrated fan base. They also discuss non-committal comments from Sam Reinhart, Rasmus Ristolainen and plenty more. All this and much more. Ep 325Bills Draft Review & Roster Outlook (Part 2)

E

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest and friend Aaron Quinn from the Cover 1 Buffalo podcast in the second of a two part series discussing their Buffalo Bills draft. Today the guys highlight some of their favorite drafts around the league, grade the Bills draft from three years ago in 2018 and dive into a full Buffalo offseason review now that the draft has passed and the team looks to be mostly set going into training camp this summer.Patrick highlights draft classes of six teams around the league that he really enjoyed, including a pair of Buffalo divisional rivals while Aaron throws in a few teams he liked as well. From there they go on assign a draft grade to the 2018 class of three years ago, a class that included Josh Allen, Tremaine Edmunds, Harrison Philips, Taron Johnson and Siran Neal. Not only do both guys agree that it’s an easy “A” but take it one step further---putting it on par, at least early on with two of the Bills best draft classes of all-time.Before calling it a day they take a look at the big picture now that the Bills offseason player movement is mostly over. While admittedly lamenting the Bills not adding a game-changing tight end or end rusher via free agency or trade, both guys credit the team building philosophy of Brandon Beane and agree that it’s the continued development of some of the younger players with room to get better---guys like Ed Oliver, Edmunds, Devin Singletary, Zack Moss, Gabriel Davis and Dawson Knox that’ll ultimately determine if this is a franchise capable of overtaking Kansas City and anyone else as the cream of the AFC crop in 2021.You can follow Aaron on Twitter @AaronQuinn716 and be sure to check out the Cover 1 Buffalo Podcast♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Twitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 324Bills Draft Review & Roster Outlook (Part 1)

E

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest and friend Aaron Quinn from the Cover 1 Buffalo podcast in the first of a two part series discussing their Buffalo Bills draft takeaways, biggest winners and losers among the Buffalo veterans on the roster post-draft and the outlook of this team going forward now that the draft has passed. The guys break down each of the eight Bills draft selections and discuss what they liked, and potentially didn’t like about each of the picks. It’s not a surprise Gregory Rousseau ended up being a first-round pick but at least Patrick was surprised Brandon Beane pulled the trigger on him over Jayson Oweh or Joe Tyron. Aaron examines why he considers it a good pick on a long-term basis. Both guys admit borderline shock to Buffalo going back to defensive end in round two with Carlos Basham and especially in round three with offensive tackle Spencer Brown, particularly when a pair of cornerbacks Patrick and Aaron both coveted were available, Elijah Molden and Ifeatur Melifonwu. They agree on liking the upside of all three of the sixth-round picks Buffalo added and also spend time looking back on the six mock drafts they did leading up to the draft, defending the process of mocks and their usefulness even if they don’t result in the players you project going to the team. You can follow Aaron on Twitter @AaronQuinn716and be sure to check out the Cover 1 Buffalo Podcast♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Twitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube:Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 323Anthony Marino On Gregory Rousseau & Round 1 of the NFL Draft

E

On this episode of the future-award winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran talks with Anthony Marino from Buffalo Rumblings to recap the Bills selection of Miami defensive end Gregory Rousseau in round one of the NFL draft as well as a discussion on some of the biggest moments from Thursday night’s first round. As it turned out just two defensive ends were off the board (Jaelan Phillips and Kwity Paye) when the Bills went on the clock with the 30th pick, leaving them to choose between Rousseau and other prospects like Jayson Oweh, Azeez Ojulari and Joe Tyron. Brandon Beane ultimately went with Rosseau and the guys give their kneejerk reaction to the pick, as this podcast was taped less than a hour after the selection was made. Both guys conclude the pick was underwhelming but practical and offer a few suggestions on who they wish the Bills would’ve targeted with the selection. They also take a look at how the AFC East played out in round one Thursday night, including Mac Jones falling to the New England Patriots at pick No. 25 while the Jets and Dolphins each grabbed two first-rounders.Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino and check out Buffalo Rumblings for all the latest Bills news and commentary as well as full NFL draft coverage.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Twitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 322BONUS: 10 Most Likely Bills Draft Prospects

E

Tonight starts the 2021 NFL Draft and on this bonus episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran runs down a list of the 10 most likely and realistic candidates to be selected by the Buffalo Bills with their first pick.Four cornerbacks lead the way, with three defensive ends and one each of the running interior offensive and defensive line positions. However, it’s a running back, Travis Etienne that tops the list---a guy Patrick’s been high on for Buffalo since the beginning of the process. He explains not just why Etienne’s talent is deserving of being the first pick, but why he thinks it’s the perfect football fit and why he thinks it’s completely realistic if not likely to actually happen. He also spends some time explaining things he’s learned while doing his six weekly Bills mock draft with Aaron Quinn from Cover 1, including the realization that defensive edge should probably be punted for 2021 if not addressed early, round two being an excellent round to go cornerback hunting and safety being a potential sneaky need in the third. He also lists some Bills related questions that should be answered over the next 72 hours and ends with a handful of NFL draft predictions, including a trade that ultimately nets Zach Ertz to Buffalo.Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Twitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube:Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. On this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran welcomes friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for the sixth and final Buffalo Bills mock published every Wednesday leading up to the actual NFL draft that begins April 29.Before embarking on the final mock of the series, the guys spend some time trying to come to conclusions and patterns they’ve longed about the previous five editions. Patrick realizes that to get a guy he really wants the Bills can’t hope it falls in their laps at 30, while Aaron spends considerable time talking about defensive edge and cornerback. The mock begins and they examine trading up seven or eight spots into the early 20’s but roll the dice and decide not to. The gamble, at least for their wants pays off as the Bills are left with an unexpected choice of two running backs they really like. Ultimately they land on Travis Etienne in large part because he’s the bigger home run threat and love what Brian Dabol can potentially do with him.The Bills stand pat in the second and third rounds as well, left with a decision between two corners they really like Elijah Molden and Ifeatu Melifonwu in the second before taking the same third round safety as they did last week. The lone Bills trade of the draft happens soon after, when Aaron trades both Bills picks in the 5th round as well as a late 2022 pick to move into Las Vegas’ spot in round four (122 overall) to select a developmental defensive tackle to potentially take over for Star Lotulelei in due time. They finish off the draft with a cornerback/special teams star in the sixth and a familiar wide receiver in the seventh before going over the Bills current roster draft winners and losers and a few bold predictions for this week’s NFL draft around the league. Ep 317BONUS: Buffalo Bills Mock Draft (Version 5.0)

E

On this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran welcomes friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for the fifth of six weekly Buffalo Bills mock draft podcast episodes every Wednesday leading up to the actual NFL draft that begins April 29.Before embarking on their second-to-last Bills mock draft, the guys spend a handful of minutes figuring out if a defensive end they like could fall to Buffalo at No. 30 as well as digest some of Brandon Beane’s comments from his pre-draft presser on Tuesday. Aaron also speaks on confidence in the organization that’s resulted in him having a peace of mind going into the draft and not stressed over what the Bills may do with their selections. When the bullets start firing in the real-time simulated mock the guys take an advantage to trade up in both the first and second round, landing themselves a defensive end they’ve tried unsuccessfully to land in the first four mocks by moving up three spots with Baltimore and then having a lightning rod player fall far enough into the second to go up eight spots to Tennessee and get him. They end up with just two more picks: a developmental safety in the third and some potential wide receiver depth in the sixth. Before signing off Aaron throws props to fellow Talking Buffalo Podcast contributor Joe From Queens on his recent (and eventful) engagement. Ep 314BONUS: Buffalo Bills Mock Draft (Version 4.0)

E

On this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran welcomes friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for the fourth of six weekly Buffalo Bills mock draft podcast episodes every Wednesday leading up to the actual NFL draft that begins April 29. This mock ultimately featured not one but two Buffalo Bills trade ups. Before getting to the latest draft the guys spend a few minutes discussing what they learned from the previous three, with Patrick pointing out that getting an edge defender who you can count on being a strong contributor as a rookie isn’t going to be on the board at 30 and trading up would be a requirement. They also go over some realistic trade up scenarios in regards to what the cost would potentially be.This draft begins and the guys land on pick No. 25 (Jacksonville) as a good trade up spot to target an edge they both like. However, Jacksonville rejects the offer and they’re “stuck” with the Bills keeping their pick at 30, leading to a guy ranked higher but who slipped due to injury concerns, Caleb Farley. They do move up in round two, jumping up 14 spots to the Chargers pick to take an offensive lineman that Aaron considers a first-round talent. They pick the same defensive tackle (Tyler Shelvin) in the third round for the third time in four mocks. They move up in the fifth round again, surrendering their seventh-rounder to move up five spots for a small school defensive end and wrap up with a sixth-rounder, a wide receiver from Clemson (Cornell Powell) they’ve taken previously. This is a fun and informative exercise that’s teaching the guys a lot about the process and prospects that fit in certain situations. The guys discuss if interim head coach Don Granato should be in the conversation for becoming the “permanent” coach.26 Shirts has a new campaign this week, “Sporting Buffalo” to benefit a beautiful three-year old girl named Sophie. E

On this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran welcomes friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for the third of six weekly Buffalo Bills mock draft podcast episodes every Wednesday leading up to the actual NFL draft that begins April 29. Unlike the first two versions, this Bills mock permits trades. As always, the computer simulates the other 31 teams and Aaron makes each Buffalo selection in real time. Prior to making the selections the guys reflect on the first two Bills mocks and what they liked and didn't like about how things played out. They also examine two positions, cornerback and defensive end that the Bills arguably have a high draft need for and how those positions have little to consensus at this point. For the first time, Patrick also brings up the possibility of selecting a wide receiver early in the draft, something he's balked at even discussing in previous mocks. To say the draft board doesn't play out the way the guys hoped in round one is an understatement, leading them to select a guy neither is initially happy with. They then move up into the second round for a defensive lineman and find a guy in the third they think could challenge for a starting spot on the offensive line. You can follow Aaron on Twitter @AaronQuinn716and be sure to check out the Cover 1 Buffalo Podcast♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Twitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube:Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel ♦♦♦♦♦SPECIAL OFFER FOR LISTENERS: Get 30% off anything you order at 80’s Tees, home of the best collection of 80’s and other nostalgia themed shirts you’ll find anywhere. He talks about how playing well over their last 21 games could help the culture with younger players and potential offseason acquisitions. Meanwhile, Del’s happy for the victory but hasn’t been watching much, admittedly in part because they’ve been so lousy. One franchise that hasn’t been lousy is the Buffalo Bills. The guys talk about a far less stressful offseason because of Josh Allen’s ascension and continue the debate on over if drafting a running back with their first pick would be a good decision. They also highlight this week’s 26 Shirts campaign, “Kickin’ Bass” to benefit an ill Shaun Sterner. Ep 308BONUS: Buffalo Bills Mock Draft (Version 2.0)

E

On this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran welcomes friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for the second of six weekly Buffalo Bills mock draft podcast episodes every Wednesday leading up to the actual NFL draft that begins April 29.The mock drafts are done in real time, with the computer simulating picks for the other 31 teams on TheDraftNetwork.com.Before moving to this current mock the guys spend some time digesting last week’s, an exercise that saw Aaron select running back Travis Etienne in the first round and interior offensive lineman Landon Dickerson in the second. The Bills signed running back Matt Brieda last week and they discuss if that acquisition would have any impact on a Brandon Beane decision to select a running back early. They also spend a few minutes discussing getting a few players that can have an impact right away versus guys who may take longer to see the field, and Aaron concludes that a good rookie guard should be capable of unseating incumbent Jon Feliciano right away. Then the new mock starts and the guys are frustrated that several prospects they had earmarked at pick No. 30 ended up being off the board, prompting them to conclude they were prefer trading up.This ends up being an extremely defense-heavy mock draft exercise, with the first five picks all being on the defensive side of the ball. Aaron lands on a cornerback at No. 30 (Eric Stokes) that could start from day one, a defensive end in the second round (Carlos Basham) capable of being a part of the rotation early and the same defensive tackles (Tyler Shelvin) in round three that they took in the first mock draft. They also double down at defensive end, add a safety, local college running back and a receiver to round out the selections. The guys agree that trades will be on the table for the third mock draft coming next Wednesday. You can follow Aaron on Twitter @AaronQuinn716and be sure to check out the Cover 1 Buffalo Podcast♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Twitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube:Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel♦♦♦♦♦It's us again, this time to talk to YOU about hosting your own podcast with our distributor. Del has a few thoughts on each and Patrick asks him if he’s in cruise control/trust the process mode at this point entering the draft next month. Spoiler alert--- Del is.Meanwhile the Buffalo Sabres continue to be the laughingstock of not just the National Hockey League but all of sports at this point. The guys try to make a little sense of it. Spoiler alert---they can't.Also, Del discusses the latest 26 Shirts campaign, one very personal to him as well as well as a conversation about the emotional toll that being in this type of work can have over time. They also spend time on their regular weekly segments and Patrick admits embarrassment after getting crushed by Del Reid among poll voters over last week’s “Favorite 80’s Movies” category that saw him net less than seven percent of the vote on Twitter. This week they’re doing a Mt. Rushmore of “Favorite TV Comedies of All-Time” and also continue their weekly “Today’s Years Old” where we learn a fun fact about zip codes as well as alcohol ice cream? Plus, did Michael Keaton or Tom Hanks have a better run of 80's movies? All this and much more. You can follow Del on Twitter @DelReid and of course be sure to check out 26shirts.comfor the latest shirts for sales and campaigns it helps benefit.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Twitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube:Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 304BONUS: Buffalo Bills Mock Draft (Version 1.0)

E

On this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran hosts friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for what will be the first of six weekly Buffalo Bills mock drafts every Wednesday leading up to the actual NFL draft that begins April 29.The mock drafts are done in real time, with the computer simulating picks for the other 31 teams on TheDraftNetwork.com.Before discussing the Bills and diving into draft prospects and scenarios, the guys spend some time discussing two teams in Buffalo’s division slotted to draft in the top three and if they move on from their current quarterbacks, Sam Darnold and Tua Togovailoa respectively. Patrick thinks one will be traded on or before the draft. They also spend some time discussing the Bills biggest positional needs going to the draft and where they may be looking to go with early picks if the roster essentially stands as it does now. It ultimately leads to pseudo Bills general manager Aaron Quinn selecting a running back with the 30th overall pick. The guys also land on Buffalo adding interior offensive line, defensive tackle, wide receiver, safety, defensive end and cornerback with their other picks. An interesting development during the draft leads the guys, particularly Patrick to realizing Buffalo may be well served to add a veteran defensive end over the next five weeks.Again, this is the first of six weekly Bills mock draft installments and each time the rules will be a little different. This mock featured a “no trades” policy. That may not be the case next week. Stay tuned! You can follow Aaron on Twitter @AaronQuinn716and be sure to check out the Cover 1 Buffalo Podcast♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Twitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 303Barry McCockiner Returns

E

On this episode of the future-awarding winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran welcomes back controversial social media figure, sports hot take machine and unapologetic Tom Brady hater Barry McCockiner to the podcast to discuss a variety of topics. The guys spend considerable time talking about the Buffalo Bills and Barry admits surprise to how far the team went in 2020 and particularly the play of Josh Allen. He credits the cast around him as well and discusses that for Buffalo’s winning to be sustainable it’s imperative to draft well and keep surrounding Allen with talent, something Barry points out Seattle and Green Bay haven’t done enough and a reason Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson haven’t won more rings. They also spend chatting up the AFC east and discussing if Miami and the New York Jets should move on from Tua Tagovailoa and Sam Darnold respectively to select rookies at the top of next month’s draft as well as Barry’s conclusion that Cam Newton stinks and New England won’t ever be good as long as he’s the starter.Of course, no podcast featuring Barry would be complete without a Tom Brady burial, and that’s exactly what Barry delivers---for 16 consecutive minutes. They also talk podcasting, putting together YouTube videos, why Barry thinks Cardi B is disgusting and much more.Follow Barry on Twitter @UltraWeedHater, check out his Class Act Podcast and sure to subscribe to his YouTube Channel.Don’t miss out on our latest Prize Pack Giveaway contest—an opportunity to win a a free large and 20 wings from Macy's Place Pizzeria, one of Western New York’s elite pizza and wing spots (no, seriously it is). Ep 297Matt Bove, WKBW-TV Sports Director

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast presented by Sonny Red’s, Patrick Moran is joined by WKBW-TV sports anchor and director Matt Bove for a chat that includes the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bills, a terrible tweet and fan interaction questions. The Sabres continue to play hockey at a level not only good for the bottom of the standings but is literally turning fans against the organization. Matt has thoughts on how things have gotten so bad, how much blame should go to head coach Paul Krueger and if he should be fired, if Jack Eichel is a lousy captain that’s allowing frustration to turn into disinterest, how embarrassed the Pegula’s should be and much more. They also spend time talking Bills, including Matt’s take on J.J. Watt signing with Arizona, the offensive line potentially running last year back and the running back position as things currently stand. Beyond the Buffalo teams the guys spend some time talking about the work challenges Matt’s had at Channel 7 over the past year being a sports director during Covid, a response to a terrible tweet about Tiger Woods and a few off-the-wall questions Matt answers that were submitted by fans, leading to discussions about pickleball and cheese pizza. Ep 296Chad DeDominicis, Expected Buffalo

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast presented by Sonny Reds, host Patrick Moran has a conversation with Chad DeDominicis of Expected Buffalo on a variety of topics centered on the continued struggles of the Buffalo Sabres. The abbreviated 2020-21 NHL season being another lost cause for the Sabres already seems to be a foregone conclusion as Buffalo finds itself last in the Eastern division and among the fewest points in the entire league. Chad discusses several of the issues, including a growingly unhappy captain in Jack Eichel, a $9-million per year forward (Jeff Skinner) who literally can’t get on the ice, their big $8 million one-year free agent acquisition (Taylor Hall) who has one goal on the season and a defenseman expected to be a franchise cornerstone (Rasmus Dahlin) that’s looked pretty ordinary in his third season.Of course much of the Sabres woes extend off the ice and Chad has plenty of thoughts on head coach Ralph Krueger, including examining why he thinks Skinner is clearly in Kruger’s doghouse despite the coach futile attempts to deny it.Back luck has played a role in the Sabres season thus far and Chad hits on some of that too, including the unfortunate injury to Jake McCabe as he was playing the best hockey of his career and Rasmus Ristolainen still not recovered from Covid. It’s not all bad news though. Chad highlights a few of the bright spots, including the play Dylan Cozens and seemingly improvement from Casey Mittelstadt, who looked like a sure-fire bust not long ago.The guys also spend time talking the Sabres all-time draft Chad did on this podcast with Paul Hamilton, John Vogl and Kris Baker last year before getting into the rocky relationship between Sabres bloggers, podcaster and fans in general with the mainstream media. All that and plenty more.Follow Chad on Twitter @CMDeDominicis and be sure to check out Expected Buffalo, which offers incredible premium content for just $5.00 per month.Follow Patrick Moran on Twitter @PatMoranTweets. Ep 295The Josh Allen Fantasy World Tradecast

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast presented by 26 Shirts, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest and friend Joe from Queens and they partake in a fun “fantasy world” exercise involving Josh Allen. Prefacing everything by saying neither Pat nor Joe think the Buffalo Bills would or should trade Josh Allen they go through every starting quarterback in the league and try to figure out which, if any they’d personally trade Allen for straight-up if they became general manager of the Bills right now. Again, it’s worth prefacing by saying this is an exercise for fun designed to highlight how far Josh Allen has come in his development and to compare him to other quarterbacks around the league. That said, the rules for the exercise is that everything about the quarterback would factor into a potential trade, including the player’s talent, age, what he’s done in the present, possibly in the future and of course the player’s contract. The majority of the list makes for debates shorter than the time it will take the Pro Football Hall of Fame committee to discuss the merits of a Drew Brees induction roughly five years from now. However, there’s three guys Patrick identifies as at least being on the fringe of a discussion and eight others that deserve full-on consideration. Spoiler alerts— Patrick Mahomes is an easy decision but how many of the others end up getting the nod? The guys also spend a few minutes remembering this week being the 10-year anniversary of Terry Pegula’s introductory press conference after purchasing the Buffalo Sabres, an event Patrick was in attendance for. Ep 294Tyler Dunne, Sportswriter & Podcaster

E

On this milestone three-year anniversary episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a conversation with popular sportswriter and podcaster Tyler Dunne about some of the many personal and professional changes in Dunne’s life since previously appearing on the podcast in March of 2018.Tyler discusses some of those personal changes in his life over the past few years, including getting married, having a daughter with a son on the way and moving from Orchard Park to Boston (New York). Professionally, Tyler saw his positional eliminated by Bleacher Report shortly before the start of the 2020 NFL regular season after spending over four years there. Rather than take his talent to another national publication Tyler decided to “bet on himself” and start his own venture, something he’s had in the back of his mind since college. He started a “Go Long with Tyler Dunne” which contains plenty of free content and a lot of bonus content and perks for paid subscribers. Tyler discuses what went into his decision and some of the advantages of now being his own boss. They also spend time talking about Tyler’s podcast alongside Jim Monos sharing the same name, Go Long with Tyler Dunne. In a short amount of time Tyler and Jim have had some riveting topics and guests including a handful of former Buffalo Bills that aren’t heard from often: Lee Evans, Eric Moulds and Donte Whitner. Discussing Whitner leads Moran to remember his beef with Whitner right around a decade ago and he goes over it in animated detail. Before wrapping up Patrick asks Tyler for some insight on the Bills, including if he thinks the team will retain Matt Milano and/or Darryl Williams as well as talking about a pair of Green Bay running backs Patrick thinks would be good fits for Buffalo. It’s a great conversation with one of the most likable and talented national sports writers in the country. You can follow Tyler on Twitter @TyDunne. Ep 293Ten Topic Tuesday Featuring Aaron Quinn

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, it’s Ten Topic Tuesday as Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest Aaron Quinn from Cover-1 Buffalo to discuss 10 topics focused primarily on the Buffalo Bills and the rest of the NFL. It’s an offseason of uncertainty for the AFC runner-up Bills, with lots of possibilities on the table and plenty of salary cap related moves to be made. One of them may be deciding which of Matt Milano or Darryl Williams is a bigger priority to re-sign, assuming the team can only sign one of the two at most. The guys discuss who they feel is more important to the present and future of the organization and also go over some current Buffalo veterans that could find themselves released or have their contracts restricted to give general manager Brandon Beane more flexibility. They also have thoughts on how realistic recently released Houston Texans star J.J. Watt ending up with the Bills is and if they’d like to see him land in Buffalo. Each of the guys select a pending unrestricted free agent they’d most like to see Buffalo target come March 15. They also spend a lot of time talking about quarterbacks around the league, including examining if Tom Brady is getting too much credit for Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl win, where Deshaun Watson will end up, if Sam Darnold ends up getting traded and trying to forecast a landing spot for several others in what’s shaping up to be the wildest offseason quarterbacking carousel in recent memory. All this plus Jesse Pegula becoming a mainstream women’s tennis star and much more on today’s episode!
