Hundreds of Buffalo Bills fans lined up to meet and get autographs from the likes of Keonn Coleman, Cole Bishop, Dewayne Carter, Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams in addition to several other things going on.One of the them were a string of podcasts being recorded there, including this one. The guys talked about several things during their conversation, including Tim Graham's upcoming deep dive on Bills budding star linebacker Terrel Bernard, the extent that Stefon Diggs may or may not be missed, who should be assuming leadership roles with so many former Bills captains and leaders now gone, and Tim's take on Sean McDermott.Tim also talks about how he got famous TV talk show host Maury Povich to do his Tim Graham and Friends podcast recently as well as his thought process in putting together feature stories, writing for 14 consecutive hours and much more. Ep 841Who Will Be The 2024 Terrel Bernard?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over a bunch of Buffalo Bills candidates that could potentially be the next Terrel Bernard, a guy not talked about much and/or isn't expected to do a lot that could blossom into an important part of the 2024 Bills team.Around this time last year Bernard was mostly a Bills afterthought after the team let Tremaine Edmunds walk earlier in free agency. While Bernard was set to take on Tyrel Dodson for a starting job, it was probably thought by most the team would ultimately look outside to find it's starting middle linebacker. Bernard would win the job and within just a few games it became apparent that he's not only a good player, but a difference maker in the Buffalo defense. Bernard went on to have an outstanding first year as a Buffalo starter and has himself positioned as a critical part of the team going forward.Who may be this year's version of Bernard based on the criteria of contributing way more than most expect? Patrick goes over several candidates that he's been thinking about as well as many fans, a list that includes Mike Edwards, MVS, Taylor Rapp, Kaiir Elam and fight-round rookie Javon Solomon. There's also some players that could easily be on the list that Patrick thinks already have enough pedigree that being a solid contributor or more is expected, with those names including AJ Epenesa, Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel. That and plenty more today.♦♦♦♦♦If you’re looking into setting up a golf practice/enjoyment station in your home, basement, garage or backyard — SimTurf is your golf oasis, featuring premium synthetic turf. Ep 840Plenty of Exciting Bills Storylines Beyond Josh Allen
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in studio by Tone Pucks to discuss why Tone thinks offseason QB debates are the absolute worst in addition to some non-Josh Allen factors that should excite Buffalo Bills fans going into this season. Many people, especially outside of Buffalo think the Bills season is sink or swim purely on how Josh Allen plays. While that's certainly true to some extent (as it is with any team featuring a franchise quarterback) there's a list of things that should have fans optimistic about the season. In fact, Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) tweeted out a list and both Patrick and Tone comb through it and discuss which talking points they believe and a few they don't. This brings guys like Taron Johnson, Terrell Bernard, Ed Oliver and Dalton Kincaid into the discussion as well as Aaron saying he thinks this year's Bills roster is as good as any during the Allen era. Is it?Also, Tone has a lot of thoughts on what the Sabres have done this offseason and where things stand with the organization from his perspective. That plus Tone completely hates offseason QB debates and comparisons, some baseball talk gets jammed in and plenty more.♦♦♦♦♦If you’re looking into setting up a golf practice/enjoyment station in your home, basement, garage or backyard — SimTurf is your golf oasis, featuring premium synthetic turf. Ep 839Favorite Buffalo Bill Ever, Plus Sleeping on Christian Benford
EIt’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative as Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from consumers of this show. Today's highlighted by revealing Patrick's favorite Buffalo Bills player of all-time in addition people sleeping on cornerback and Christian Benford as well as a wing review of Main & Hamlin in East Aurora.WGR's Chris "Bulldog" Parker brought up this topic on the radio last week, adding the caveat of people over 40 consider it respectable to land on Josh Allen. Patrick actually does that and explains why he now chooses Allen. Also, Patrick defends Benford from a fan that considers the former sixth-round pick over hyped.Plus, someone thinks Damar Hamlin kinda sucks, Bills vs Miami rivalry trash talking and more. On the back half of the episode Patrick has a wing review for The Bar at Main & Hamlin in East Aurora, a spot that sits almost directly across the street from Bar Bill.♦♦♦♦♦If you’re looking into setting up a golf practice/enjoyment station in your home, basement, garage or backyard — SimTurf is your golf oasis, featuring premium synthetic turf. Ep 838Bills Camp Mysteries In Need Of Solving
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to discuss among other topics some of the Buffalo Bills camp mysteries in need of being solved as the team's now just days away from the start of training camp.Every team around the league has some questions and mysteries as they head into to camp and Buffalo's certainly no exception. Among things the guys examine and discuss is how much of a role rookie wide receiver will have right away with the team, what kind of Von Miller are we going to see running around and can former first-round pick Kaiir Elam begin to salvage his Bills career before it's too late. Also, Bruce Nolan had some James Cook comments on the show last week that has Patrick wondering if James Cook is going to be the "workhorse" running back many think he'll be based on a 2023 season that saw him finish fourth in the NFL in rushing. Additionally the guys discuss who may be the kick returner this season and who between Sean McDermott and Bobby Babich will be calling plays.Plus, who are the guy's favorite Buffalo Bills player of all-time, not necessarily the best but their favorite. That plus Josh Allen having an oddly low 2024 passing yardage total to bet on Fan Duel and much more. Ep 837Pressure Mounts Heavier On Certain Bills
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss the mounting pressure on specific Buffalo Bills as the 2024 season draws closer, with some possibly feeling the pressure a little more than others. The Bills aren't quite as high on the Vegas betting odds to win a Super Bowl as they've been the past few offseasons, but they're still up there pretty high. Patrick and Joe go over who they think should and is feeling the most pressure to get it done this season, starting of course at the top with quarterback Josh Allen and head coach Sean McDermott. They make a case that while both deserve to have pressure on them, who should be feeling it the most in addition to other guys on the team that may have the pressure ramped up for various reasons, including Greg Rousseau, Von Miller, Keon Colman, Connor McGovern, Ed Oliver and maybe even general manager Brandon Beane. Also, recently signed Miami Dolphins tight end was trying to stir up the Bills vs Dolphins rivalry even more recently, taking some strong pot shots at the city of Buffalo and it's culture on a Miami fan-centric podcast recently called "The Dive Bar Podcast." The guys both react to it---how much of Smith's statement was for attention and how much, if any merit did it contain? That and plenty more. Ep 836Six Factors That Bode Well For The Buffalo Bills
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective to discuss six factors that bode well for the Buffalo Bills going into the 2024 season in addition to thoughts on the Buffalo Sabres offseason thus far. There's a lot of analysts, media, critics and fans that have the Bills pegged to take a step back this season. Patrick and PK go over six reasons that should make skeptics pump the brakes a little bit. Among them are Josh Allen being more motivated than ever before, a crop of young ascending talent that aren't as well known nationally and many of the veterans the team lost are thought of more for what they were than what they are. They guys also both think the Bills pass catching room is better than most think, even if they don't have any one singular player as good as Stefon Diggs. Additionally, the New York Jets having a quarterback that could very well be cooked as well as Miami's absolutely brutal final six games on their schedule should be reason to give Bills fans plenty of optimism.PK also has some thoughts on what the Sabres have done over the past few weeks, if they are going to end up adding another top six forward and much more. Ep 835Bruce Nolan Returns To Talk Bills & Revamped Show
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by popular Buffalo podcaster Bruce Nolan to discuss some Buffalo Bills talking points in addition to an in depth discussion about his completely revamped "The Bruce Exclusive" podcast. In early April Vox Media decided to put an end to all the podcasts from the Buffalo Rumblings podcasting network, effectively at the time ending The Bruce Exclusive. Bruce shares his initial reactions to when that happened, if there was a point he considered "retiring" from podcasting all together, the process of being a well sought after podcasting free agent, what went into his decision on where he ultimately landed with the show, and a re-debut last week that saw him rise all the way into the top five on the Apple Podcast football charts in the United States. They also talk plenty of Bills, including some of the potential camp storylines Bruce is most intrigued to follow and an evaluation of his expectations are for their rookie class solely for the 2024.That and plenty more. Ep 834Is Josh Allen Taken For Granted?
EIt’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative as Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from consumers of this show. There's a good batch to get to today, highlighted by examining if Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen is actually taken for granted.Everyone knows Allen is a very good quarterback and most considering him among the top in the league, that's not debatable. However, Patrick explains how he gets the sense that plenty of fans don't understand---or at least take it for granted that the Bills stay in the mix annually primarily because of him. There's so many "good" quarterbacks around the league that still have question marks and a few really good teams that don't know what they'll get from quarterback. Buffalo knows what they have and fully appreciates it---or do they? Also, a fan is still mad at Sean McDermott for last year's fake punt, Patrick's harshly criticized for comparing Jeff Skinner to Stefon Diggs, a Bills trade is predicted, Patrick tries to lowball the NHL trade market, Cobra Kai is fun but played out and much more today.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 833Biggest Question Mark For Every AFC Team
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to go over what they consider the biggest question mark for every team in the AFC going into the 2024 season, with some teams having far bigger and more areas of concern than others.Seeing this is a Buffalo-based podcast focused heavily on the Buffalo Bills and consumed mostly by Bills fans, we all know their biggest question marks as things stand. But what about the other 15 teams in the AFC? Patrick and Anthony go team-by-team through the entire conference and examine.Among those discussed is if Trevor Lawrence will ever be more than a slightly above average starting quarterback for Jacksonville, if Tennessee is an offseason paper champ team right now, is Sean Payton overrated as a head coach and can Lamar Jackson ever sustain his regular season level of play into the playoffs? Also, are Russ Wilson and Deshaun Watson both cooked? Did the Raiders make a mistake by not having someone better than Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback, did the Chiefs losing L'Jarius Sneed create a big hole in their defense and can CJ Stroud avoid a sophomore slump.Of course, we don't skip over Buffalo and hit on them too. Did they lose too many core players in one offseason? Can you trust Von Miller and Greg Rousseau to get to the quarterback consistently. That and much more today. Ep 832Exciting Storylines That Await Bills Camp
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, primarily some of the storylines they're most looking forward to seeing play out at Buffalo Bills training camp that begins in a few weeks. How the wide receiver position and depth chart plays out, Taylor Rapp trying to hold off rookie Cole Bishop for the starting strong safety job, if Kaiir Elam looks good enough to avoid sending Brandon Beane to the trade market, how healthy Matt Milano looks and possible hints at what'll be a more balanced offense from seasons past are among the topics hit on. Additionally, the kick returning job is discussed, which with the new kickoff rule changes is now a bigger factor than before. They guys also spend a little time talking about the Buffalo Sabres, a team that has been extremely busy adding additions via free agency and trade over the past 10 days. That said, it hasn't impressed the fans much if at all, and it is a product of not necessarily this offseason specifically but years (and years) of futility that results in fans having little to not trust in anything Kevyn Adams does. Was Adams wise to trade away Matt Savoe, and are other moves still coming? That plus Joe talks about his experience of being at the arena in New York City for AEW's Forbidden Door show recently and much more. Ep 831WIVB-TV Sports Reporter & Anchor Carl Jones (Live From Imperial Pizza)
EIt’s another edition of the “Live from Imperial” series today on Talking Buffalo as Patrick Moran is joined by new WIVB-TV sports anchor and reporter Carl Jones to discuss his life and career at this point in addition to some Buffalo Bills talk in a conversation recorded live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo.Carl's new to the Buffalo sports media and also brand new to living in the city of Buffalo, even though he's extremely familiar in covering the Bills because of his time previously in Rochester. They talk about Carl getting the opportunity to join the Channel 4 sports team alongside Josh Reed and Sara Holland, and how that process played out. They also spend plenty of time about Carl's upbringing in Cleveland and being a very talented football player, a part of a team that won two straight state championships and helped propel him to a scholarship to play college football at Syracuse. There's plenty of football tales included and Patrick asks Carl how much being a former high level football player has helped him in his job so far as a sports reporter.Of course there's plenty of Bills talk on the table as well, including Carl's confidence in Von Miller to be "a dude" again going forward, and if Greg Rousseau and Khalil Shakir have that kind of trait in their ceiling. That plus Carl talking about how Stuart Scott became an inspiration for him to get into sports broadcasting, getting comfortable in front of the camera, his initial thoughts on Buffalo, the "Fun Fact" finale and plenty more. Make sure to follow Carl on Twitter @CarlJones_11 and of course check out the great work he’s doing at WIVB.Big shout-out and thank you once again to Imperial Pizza for being a gracious host and for their excellent wings. Ep 830Interview From Eric Wood's "Centered on Buffalo"
EOn this Independence Day episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran discusses his recent guest appearance on former Buffalo Bills center Eric Wood's "Centered on Buffalo" show before replaying, with permission the entirety of that interview that consisted of both Bills---and wing talk.Patrick had the great honor of being on Eric's show, which aired originally on June 13th. On the show they discussed Stefon Diggs giving praise to Josh Allen, pushed back at "national analyst" Emmanuel Acho's assertion that the Bills Super Bowl window is completely closed, analyzed Sean McDermott and went over a few guys who could be ready to breakout in 2024. They also discussed several of Buffalo's most well known wing options, including a few both consider polarizing. For good measure Patrick was also asked to share his three favorite places for pizza. With today being a holiday and many people off work and away from their daily routines, we figured this would be a great chance to give this interview a listen if you didn't catch it originally on Eric's show. Speaking of which, make sure you're subscribed to Centered on Buffalo, available wherever you listen to podcasts as well as YouTube.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 829Sabre Fans Vent, Plus Some Bills Takes (The Podbag)
EIt’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative as Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from audience Today goes heavy on Buffalo Sabres related rants from fans in lieu of a week that's seen plenty of additions but not what most were hoping for in addition to some Buffalo Bills related submissions as the team's now just a few weeks away from the start of training camp. When you habitually you lose, you don't get the benefit of the doubt from fans or the media. That's where we're at and where we've been at with the Buffalo Sabres. Sure, they made plenty of moves over the past few days but almost no one feels like it's nearly enough--not when they're still a glaring need for a top six forward and a third-line center. This currently feels like a roster that has a pair of complete fourth lines. Patrick goes through a handful of rants from fans and responds accordingly.Turning to the Bills, Patrick's asked to talk about one or two training camp potential surprising storylines as well as the importance of Greg Rosseau this season and what kind of Super Bowl champion Josh Allen would be. That plus stuff about wings, Comic Con, 26 Shirts and more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 828Sabres Revamp Bottom Six But Is That Nearly Enough?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Sabres fans hopeful for a flashy upgrade to the line up as NHL free agency kicked off were left disappointed, and Patrick Moran talks about the new additions on a busy but splash-free opening to the offseason that has them questioning how bad things really are for the organization.NHL free agent stars like Steven Stamkos, Tyler Bertuzzi, Tyler Toffoli and Jake Guentzel among others felt like a pipe dream to Sabres fans and that feeling came to fruition on Monday. Hell, the Sabres didn't even really replace the recently bought out Jeff Skinner.Buffalo did make a few signings with guys that realistically could improve their bottom six forward lines but aren't players that resonated with fans. Patrick has thoughts on Buffalo overpaying for Jason Zucker, adding forwards Sam Lafferty and Nicholas Aube-Kubel as well as finding more depth at goaltending with Felix Sandstrom. The team also re-signed Jacob Bryson.Patrick also goes back to the well on a take he's been saying regularly since February--that the Sabres are the worst organization in all of pro sports right now with the proven fact that seemingly no one of value wants to come play here as part of the evidence. As explained, if the Sabres are going to end the longest drought in NHL history this coming season, it's going to be because the players already on the roster show dramatic improvement and find a way to stay collectively healthy. That and plenty more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 827Chad DeDominicis Talks Sabres In Desperation Mode
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chad DeDominicis of Expected Buffalo to discuss the start of what's absolutely going to be a critical offseason for the Buffalo Sabres and in particular, general manager Kevyn Adams. As you're listening or watching this the official start of NHL free agency will be underway. Meanwhile the NHL Draft has come and gone and the Sabres, to the chagrin of many of their fans didn't do much over the weekend---highlighted by trading down from the 11th pick three spots and acquiring an extra second-rounder, a pick they parlayed into someone very likely to be a fourth line forward.Chad has plenty of thoughts on how the opening weekend of player movement and the draft played out, including Buffalo moving down three spots from 11 and in the process costing themselves an opportunity to select one of two highly touted defensemen both on the board for the Sabres original pick, Sam Dickinson and Zeve Buium, a player Minnesota moved up to get at pick No. 12. Did Adams drop the ball by prematurely moving back? The extra pick led Adams to trading with Washington and acquiring pending restricted free agent Brent Malenstyn, a physical player who is excellent in some areas of the game but isn't going to offer a lot offensively (just six goals in his first full NHL campaign last season).Of course, Buffalo did make a pick at No. 14 and Chad shares his thoughts on Konsta Helenius. At least through this point the Sabres biggest move was making the buyout of Jeff Skinner official. The Sabres now save $7.5 million in cap space for this season but will be paying Skinner for the next six years instead of three. Chad has plenty to say about Skinner, his legacy in Buffalo and if he agrees with the organizational decision. They also discuss some of the names Buffalo should be targeting as free agency kicks in addition to the possibility of a trade(s) coming down the pipe as well as Adams very likely having his job on the line based by how this summer and upcoming season goes plus That and plenty more with Chad, who you can follow on Twitter @CMDeDominicis and be sure to check out Expected Buffalo.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. EIt's another edition of the "Live from Imperial" series today on Talking Buffalo as Patrick Moran is joined by WGRZ-TV sports director Jon Scott to talk about big career changes, some Buffalo Bills and much more in a conversation recorded live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo. After spending a decade at Spectrum News, Jon is now the sports director at WGRZ channel 2. He discusses his time at Spectrum and how the job helped him grow both professionally and personally before getting into how the opportunity at Channel 2 came about the process he went through in landing the job.Of course they spend some time talking Bills just a few weeks out from training camp and how Greg Rousseau has become without question one of the five most important players to the team's success this year in addition to tempered expectations on the old guy (Von Miller) and the young guy (Keon Coleman) and players Jon's most looking forward to following during camp. That plus talk about Jon's sports teammates at WGRZ Lindsey and Johnathan, wings, relationships in the media balancing competition and much more. Ep 825Buffalo Sports Edition of "Buy or Sell"
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective for (mostly) Buffalo sports edition of "Buy or Sell" where Patrick runs off a series of sports statements and PK analyzes whether he's buying or selling the validity of them. Before that the guys have a discussion about longtime Buffalo Sabres forward Jeff Skinner. As of this recording Skinner hasn't officially had his contract bought out but reporting certainly seems to be pointing strongly in that direction. On the assumption Skinner's guy the guys have thoughts both good and bad about his time in Buffalo and if he agrees with the organization's decision. From there it's Buy or Sell and some of the topics include Von Miller leading the Bills in sacks, Dalton Kincaid being a top five tight end this year in both receptions and yards, the team making a trade before Week one and Bobby Babich being the defensive play caller in 2024.On the hockey side we cover the Sabres trading the 11th overall pick in Friday night's draft, Lindy Ruff finally ending the Sabres seemingly forever drought and Connor McDavid deserving the Conn Smythe even though his team didn't win the Stanley Cup.That and plenty more. Ep 824More Shame For Sabres Organization, Plus Bills Talk (The Podbag)
EIt’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative as Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from audience, including shade deservedly thrown at the Buffalo Sabres organization as yet more key players on past teams that couldn't win with Buffalo go on to play key roles in helping another team win a Stanley Cup.Like it or not, the Sabres are among the worst organizations in all of major pro sports. Their record on the ice and decisions off the ice support the statement, which only strengthened on Monday night when the Florida Panthers won the Stanley Cup in game-seven, which of course saw Sam Reinhart score the series-winning goal. With that ,Reinhart joins Jack Eichel and Ryan O'Reilly are former core players that have went on to taste the pinnacle of hockey success----after leaving Buffalo, not to mention Kyle Okposo. Patrick has plenty to say about that and the now likely buyout of overpriced forward Jeff Skinner in the coming days.Another commenter takes the Sabres woes a step further, saying that they've been horribly run for literally most of their existence. Clearly being tied for the longest playoff drought in sports and seeing a slew of former Sabres go on to have success after leaving has fans at arguably their most frustrated. There's also submissions centered around the Buffalo Bills, including David Edwards seemingly being handed the starting left guard job and some concerns at safety. That plus a comment about this week's all-time sports media draft, Sara Holland's appearance on the show last week and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 823Our Buffalo Bills Offseason Report Card
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, with just a few weeks before training the camp the Buffalo Bills 90-man roster is pretty much set, and Patrick Moran's joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to go over the additions and subtractions positionally and come up with their official Bills offseason report card. With emphasizing that this exercise is not a "state of the team" as a whole but more so a comparison and analysis of what the team lost versus what they added, the guys go through the team positionally and try to figure out if the team got better, stayed the same or worsened at each spot. Obviously the conversation revolves around three areas of the team that resulted in the most personnel turnover: wide receiver, defensive line and safety. The exercise also shows a few areas of the team that clearly on paper have downgraded on paper during the offseason, most notably cornerback after losing both Tre White and Dane Jackson and the only addition being a sixth-round rookie who's path to the roster is most likely through special teams. Offensive line is also a downgrade after losing their starting center and reliable utility lineman while adding just a fifth-round rookie, even if his ceiling is ultimately pretty high.Plus, the running back position may be an addition by subtraction upgrade at this point---ditto at quarterback and much more. Patrick and Joe flip a coin for the first pick and it's snake style after that. The guys spend time talking about each selection and also put some time aside to discuss several worthy honorable mention candidates.Patrick shocks Joe right away with his predominant radio personality first pick while Joe's first two selections are old school newspaper journalists. It's more selections, tales and some interesting stories about those picked along the way. Ep 821Sara Holland (WIVB-TV) Live From Imperial Pizza
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by WIVB-TV sports reporter and anchor Sara Holland for a conversation taped live from Imperial Pizza on life, work, wings and the Buffalo Sabres and more.Sara's been at Channel 4 for about a year and a half but has spent more time in Buffalo than that, having went to college and played softball at UB. They spend some time talking about how Sara's gotten more acclimated to Buffalo professionally and relationships developed during that time with colleagues, but at the station and around the Buffalo sports media landscape. Speaking of, Sara talks about being happy to be part of a resurgence of woman making an impact in the local TV sports reporting market alongside people like Lindsey Moppert (WGRZ) and Briana Aldridge (WKBW).They also spend some time discussing the Sabres, a team Sara spends considerable time covering when she's not in studio doing all sports. She has thoughts on growing speculation that Jeff Skinner will get his contract brought out and early initial impressions on head coach Lindy Ruff. That plus Sara considers Imperial the best wings she's had so far in Buffalo, why she's willing to admit she wants the Sabres to be a winning team and much more. Big shout-out and thank you once again to Imperial Pizza for being a gracious host and for their excellent wings. Ep 820Creating Odds On Buffalo Sports (And Other) Prop Bets
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in studio by longtime friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks to discuss several topics, including the debut of "Props with Pucks"--a series of sports bet scenarios that Pucks lays down what he thinks the betting odds should be.It's been a few weeks since Tone's been on the show so they spend a few catching up. From there Patrick throws out a bunch of mostly Buffalo Bills and Sabres prop bets at Tone and tasks him with coming up with betting odds on the fly. Among them on the Bills side are Dalton Kincaid leading the Bills in receiving yards this season, Damar Hamlin making the Bills 53-man roster, Von Miller registering at least 7,5 sacks, Chase Claypool sticking around and Cole Bishop being the Week one starting safety.Turning the Sabres, Tone lays odds on many props, including Jeff Skinner getting bought out, UPL signing a multi-year deal, Henri Jokijaru getting dealt, the Sabres making the 11th overall pick in next week's draft. That plus a few other fun non-Bills or Sabres prop bets and plenty more. Ep 819Buffalo Bills Biggest Under The Radar Question Mark
EIt’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative as Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from audience, including examining what the Buffalo Bills biggest under the radar question mark is going into the season and if the Bills are a better team right now than the end of last season. There's lot of question marks around the Bills right now, just as there are with most if not all teams around the league. Some of them are pretty obviously, especially asking how the Bills offense will look without Stefon Diggs and how much of an effect losing so many veteran leaders in one offseason may have. But there's other potential issues with the team as well and Patrick's asked to identify one that isn't talked about as much. He comes up with the pass rush and elaborates on why it's anything but a given that part of the team will be good enough when it matters. Also, there's a difference between how a team looks on paper versus reality at times, and Patrick tries to explain that while on paper Buffalo looks like a lesser team than when the season ended last year, that isn't necessarily the reality. Not to be outdone today are submissions that sees one fan call sports journalist Tyler Dunne a goober, correctly picking the NFL MVP like your life literally depended on it, favorite and most memorable bars in Buffalo on the heels of the Old Pink burning down this week and much more.If you'd like to have your submission featured on next week's show, you can either comment on one of the YouTube videos, Talking Buffalo Facebook page or send a Tweet or email to Patrick directly.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 818Tyler Dunne Discusses Sit Down With Brandon Beane
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by sports journalist and Go Long founder to discuss several Buffalo Bills related topics, primary Dunne's recent sit down with Bills general manager Brandon Beane. It was certainly a surprise to many Bills fans to see Dunne score an extended interview with Beane considering his critical and some would say controversy articles on the team in recent years. Dunne said himself in a controversy Sean McDermott series last season that the team denied him media credentials. Dunne talks about how things have changed regarding the professional relationship between he and the team, with Dunne at recent press conferences and this hour long sit down with Beane that's thoroughly discussed in the episode.Dunne talks about Beane's demeanor during the interview and many of the topics they touched on during their chat, including some fascinating conversation about Stefon Diggs and the process of trading him away, Josh Allen being Josh Allen, his using the term "transition" in describing the 2024 Bills, addressing Tyler's McDermott series and some of Dunne's post Beane conversation takeaways. They also talk briefly about the Old Pink burning down, Rory McIlroy gagging away the U.S. open and much more. You can read the article and all the content at Go Long by subscribing via Substack. Ep 817Del Reid Talks Charity, Fandom & Buffalo Bills (Live From 26 Shirts)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by BillsMafia co-founder and 26 Shirts owner Del Reid to talk charity, fandom and the Buffalo Bills in a conversation taped on location at 26 Shirts headquarters in Kenmore.Del's been on the show plenty of times in the past but it's been a hot minute since he's last been on--therefore there's plenty to catch up on them. Among them is discussing Mafia Con, an inaugural event coming July 20th spearheaded by Reid that'll include food vendors, music, beer, live podcasts (including this one) and Bills player appearances (including one from rookie receiver Keon Coleman). Del talks about who sparked the idea and what his expectations are for the event in year one. They also spend some having Del reflect on what it meant to be selected the Buffalo Bills Fan of the Year for 2023 and the way he was quite literally surprised to learn from it---hat tip to Stevie Johnson.Of course at the root of everything Del does is 26 Shirts and they spend time talking about the never-ending charitable endeavors and added responsibility/pressure that comes with it. That plus some talk about the Bills, plenty of naysayers out there and plenty more. Special thanks to 26 Shirts for allowing us to come enjoy a taping at their office headquarters, good stuff!♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 816Where The Bills Stand One Month Before Camp
EOn today's Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in studio by podcaster Zach Kmitch for his first full episode ever on the show and the guys are dissecting exactly where they think the 2024 Buffalo Bills are as they approach the one month mark before training camp officially begins. After spending a few minutes introducing Zach to the Talking Buffalo mix and getting to know a little about him, the guys dive into this Bills roster as presently constructed and the probability that it's for the most part set. In terms of team strengths Zach has plenty to say about the Buffalo front seven on defense, that even without the departed Leonard Floyd should be very good with a healthy Matt Milano back. They also talk about the plentiful amount of young offensive talent that both guys believe is still ascending. There's definitely things to worry about with this team too. Among those topics discussed is questions marks on the offensive line, a unit that last year was easily the best of Josh Allen's career. Connor McGovern's played center before but can he effectively move there from guard and play well enough to not have Brandon Beane lament releasing Mitch Morse. Plus, David Edwards goes from being a huge under the radar asset as the sixth offensive lineman last year to starter at guard----will he play as well as he did when he was with the Rams or may the Bills have a problem there? Plus the Bills safety position is no longer something to not have to worry about it with the departures of both Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde, even if each were past their prime. That plus a few X-factors, a little golf talk sprinkled in and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 815Bills Camp Cut Candidates & Greg Rousseau's Importance
EIt’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the episode where the audience controls the narrative and topics as Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from consumers of the show, including who he thinks are the biggest Bills incumbent training camp cut candidates, the importance of Greg Rousseau staying healthy and wondering if Buffalo would/cut support a WNBA team.Veterans end up getting cut before the regular season every year and the Bills are no exception. Patrick's asked to name some players he thinks could be in danger of not making the roster and he comes up with four to keep an eye on, including one that's become a household name around the league and another who was once one of the better trench players in the league. Also, recurring guest Joe From Queens drew plenty of heat for some of his Bills takes over the past few day and Patrick responds to some of them. How much lesser, if at all is the Bills pass catching group compared to last year? That plus why Tua Tagovailoa still has plenty to prove for Miami, pondering if the market of Buffalo would support a WNBA franchise, a commitment to more (any) Buffalo Bandits coverage in the future and much more. Ep 814Should Buffalo, New York & Miami All Be Co-Favored In AFC East?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens for a second consecutive show and this time the guys are discussing if the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and Miami Dolphins should all be considered co-favorites to win the AFC east division.Among others, Ceasar's Sports Book in Vegas has Buffalo, New York and Miami essentially in a dead heat in regards to betting odds to win the division, with the Bills and Jets both at +180 and the Dolphins right there with them at +190. Should that be the case? Patrick doesn't think so while Joe thinks it should be Buffalo and Miami neck and neck. Of course, debating ensues. Patrick acknowledges there's several questions that need to be answered about the Bills but is more confident they're still the cream of the crop of the division while Joe continues to be of the mindset of expecting Buffalo to take a step back.Meanwhile Patrick keeps things even by laying out several question marks fans and supporters of both Miami and New York should be having as well. They discuss Miami's ridiculously hard schedule down the stretch, key edge rushers trying to come back from major injuries and general lack of belief (at least from Patrick) in the quarterback. With the Jets they talk about Aaron Rodgers' age and achilles that still doesn't look 100% based on film clips in July, plus a bookend pair of aging offensive tackles tasked with protecting him. They also spend a few minutes talking about boomer complaints, each removing an existing member of the WWE Hall of Fame and much more. Ep 813Diggs Praises Allen, Boring OTA's Content & Other Sports Takes
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest and frenemy Joe From Queens and Joe fires up the (mostly) Buffalo sports hot take machine, with plenty to say about Stefon Diggs recent comments on Josh Allen and Bills offseason content being boring if not pointless.Diggs recently spoke to the media in Houston and during his comments took the time to shower praise on his former quarterback in Buffalo, saying he probably wouldn't be where he's at in his career were it not for the help of Allen. It's probably in stark contrast to what a lot of Bills fans assume Diggs feels about Allen, seeing who presumably wanted out of Buffalo this offseason and there's been reports and plenty of speculation that the Diggs/Allen dynamic had been on shaky grounds for quite a while. Joe also talks about his belief that the majority of Bills fans would like to see Diggs fail in Houston to make them feel better about trading him away---a move Joe continues to think was a mistake. They also talk about OTA's, minicamp and other offseason content that Joe regards as mostly a waste of time. It leads to a pretty spirited discussion between the two. They also spend some time talking about the treating of Caitlyn Clark in the WNBA and plenty more. Ep 812PK (Buffalo Sports Collective) Talks Bills, Sabres & Bandits
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective to discuss upcoming Bills camp storylines, Sabres trade candidates and the Bandits continuing to fly under the general public radar despite being perennial champions.Things are pretty slow with the Bills and the rest of the NFL this year time of year but make no mistake about it---things will starting heating up real soon. Mandatory mini camp is now just around the corner and the guys go over some of the storylines that they'll start to get more locked on as minicamp starts next week and of course, training camp near the end of July. Among them is a potential starting strong safety battle between Taylor Rapp and rookie Cole Bishop, if Mike Edwards looks secure enough starting at free safety to keep Sean McDermott from dialing up free agent Micah Hyde and if rookie center Sedrick Van Pran Granger looks strong enough at camp to earn his way on the field into a starting competition. It's been a minute since any Sabres talk on Talking Buffalo and today the guys are going over a handful of potential trade candidates as the offseason gets cooking in just a few weeks. Is Jeff Skinner even tradeable? Does a NHL blue liner get moved in an effort to acquire another center? That plus Patrick has a conversation with PK about the Bandits winning a second consecutive championship. Buffalo Sports Collective has the best, most in-depth coverage of the Bandits year-round and PK's a huge part of it. Patrick gets his insight on not just the team winning another title but a firsthand account of what the experience was like being in the crowd for the game and examining if he thinks the team is growing on the region's casual sports fan. That and plenty more. You can follow PK on Twitter @PK_BSC and check out the Buffalo Sports Collective podcast.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 811What NFL Tier Does Buffalo Belong In?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran takes all 32 NFL teams, puts them all into seven tiers and focuses on which grouping the Buffalo Bills most likely belong in.As opposed to taking each team and "power ranking" them No. 1-32, this exercise leads to seven tiers being created: Super Bowl favorites, Legit Super Bowl Contenders, Playoff Near Locks, Playoff Top Contenders, Could Surprise, Nah and 2025 No. 1 Pick Contenders. Patrick first explains why he prefers to tiers to complete numerical order--being able to place multiple teams on the same level. From there we start at the bottom tier and work our way up. Here's a spoiler alert---- there's eight teams that are ranked at least as high as the "legit Super Bowl contenders" tier while five teams are projected to be in the mix for the top overall pick in next year's draft. Also, the Bills are now no longer solely favored to win the AFC east, per Ceasars Sports Book. That plus some flowers to a fellow content creator on pulling Mina Kimes as a special guest and plenty more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 810Erasing One Bills Offseason Move (The Podbag)
EIt’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo as Patrick Moran responds to several takes and questions submitted by consumers of the show, including being asked to pick a singular Buffalo Bills offseason transaction he'd most like to erase if he could. It's been an incredibly busy and eventful offseason for Brandon Beane and the Bills since last season ended in the playoffs with a disappointing home loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Bills have said goodbye to several prominent veterans and have also added several new pieces via free agency and the draft. Patrick's tasked with erasing any one move he wants and while acknowledging that canceling the Stefon Diggs trade would probably be at the top of most lists, he'd like to take back Beane cutting center Mitch Morse even if he's likely nearing the end of his career. There's plenty of other Bills related topics in this week's Podbag, including national misperceptions, biggest pre-training camp team concerns, breakout candidates and who'll lead the team in interceptions in 2024.There's also nuggets about Bills training camp, a pair of Buffalo Sabres questions that sends Patrick down a mini-rabbit hole, favorite Buffalo summer annual event and more. Ep 809Can James Cook Rush For 1,500 Yards?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to discuss several topics, including the team's head scratching signing of former decorated wrestler Gabe Steveson and speculating if running back James Cook is capable of rushing for 1,500 yards.Cook ran for 1,122 for Buffalo last year despite seemingly having a quick leash for a lot of the early part of the season. No Buffalo Bills running back has rushed for at least 1,500 yards since OJ Simpson all the way back in 1976. That said, maybe the accomplishment isn't as far fetched as it seems. Cook pretty much established himself as one of the best backs in the league last year, finishing fourth in the NFL and rushing and running for 1,500 yards isn't unprecedented in recent years. Five active backs have done a total of seven times over the past five years. The guys spend some time considering if Cook has the ability and opportunity to join that club in this 2024 Bills offense. Also, the Bills signed former Olympic wrestler and WWE "superstar" Gabe Steveson last week. It's interesting on several levels considering Stevenson has literally never played organized football in his life. There's also former legal issues with Stevenson that makes the move a head scratcher if not straight-up controversial. The guys discuss. That plus Emanuel Acho is on TV seeking attention at the expense of the Bills, Justin Jefferson is now incredibly rich, a new "Medal Stand" segment and much more. Ep 808The Worst Contracts in Buffalo Bills History
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens and today they're running down and discussing some of the worst contracts given out in franchise history.Every team around the NFL has given out its fair share of awful contracts and Buffalo certainly is no exception. The Bills have seen many lucrative deals go astray and Joe put in the time to list together some of the absolute worst, leading to discussions that include the infamous guard/tackle big plash free acquisitions of Derrick Dockey and Langston Walker as well as quarterbacks Rob Johnson and Ryan Fitzpatrick that quickly fizzled out after receiving significant contracts.Defensive line has seen plenty of bad deals and a handful of them are discussed as well, including Marcel Dareus, Star Lotulelei, Dwan Edwards and Larry Tripplett.Additionally, Charles Clay was a big signing at the time but never elevated the Bills offense. That plus a few recent players being on the list, recollections of the Mario Williams chase, other nostalgia and much more. Ep 807Briana Aldridge, WKBW-TV Buffalo Sports Anchor & Reporter (LIVE From Imperial Pizza)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by WKBW-TV Buffalo sports anchor and reporter Briana Aldridge for a conversation about her life and career so far that's recorded live from Imperial Pizza from South Buffalo.Briana has been crushing it since coming to Buffalo in 2022 to join the Channel 7 sports team. They have a conversation about what led her to coming to Western New York and if it was a difficult decision for her at the time. Despite being young and relatively new(ish) to sports broadcasting professionally, Briana's incredibly traveled and has lived in many parts of the country. She talks about being born and raised in California and also spend time in several other places either professionally or educationally---including Georgia, West Virgina, Louisiana, Nebraska and Colorado.Among other topics discussed is some of Briana's biggest influences, cultivating personal and professional relationships amongst her peers in the Buffalo market, her views on social media, thoughts on her time so far in Buffalo and of course, a "Fun Fact Finale" to learn even more about one of the sports broadcasting media's true rising stars. You can follow Briana on Twitter @BreeAldridge and be sure to check out the amazing works she'd doing at WKBW-TV. Ep 806Bills Post June 1st Potential Free Agent Adds
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, the Buffalo Bills will have at least a little more spending money freed up to potentially spend come June 1st in a few days, and Patrick Moran has a list of several potential roster addition candidates to discuss. The Bills still don't have a lot of cap room even once they they get the money saved by cutting Tre White with a post-June 1st designation earlier this offseason, but it does at least open up the door to be a little more flexible and add an able player or two to the mix. Buffalo signed defensive end Leonard Floyd on June 6 last year and he paid huge dividend and while that expectation is definitely not there this time around, there's a few holes on the depth of this roster that could use some polishing.Patrick focuses on three of them: offensive guard, edge rusher and cornerback and makes a case why Brandon Beane should consider adding to at least one of these position groups if not more before training camp begins. From there Patrick has a list of candidates he can make reasonable arguments as worthy roster adds, including a couple of former Buffalo Bills most fans will surely be familiar with. That plus a discussion on a few current Bills veterans including Kaair Elam, David Edwards and Casey Toohill.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 805What Bills Player Is Poised For A Big Leap? Plus, Mt. Rushmore of Buffalo Pizza
EIt’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo as Patrick Moran is responding to several takes and questions submitted by consumers of the show, including answering a question about what Bills player is most likely to take a big leap in 2024 and potential juicy training camp battles. Each year not just on the Bills but almost every team a young player finds his groove and totally elevates his game. Patrick's asked who that player might be this season and goes with a skilled position player he'll likely spend the next several months pounding the table for.Among other Bills topics covered on the podbag is naming an offseason acquisition that may not stick with the team wrong, if there'll be any worthwhile training camp battles, Spencer Brown possibly in line for a big pay day sooner rather than later and the never ending talk about Stefon Diggs, even nearly two months after being traded. That plus a request to come up with a far too early Super Bowl prediction that might surprise some, a Mt. Rushmore of Buffalo pizza and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 804Some Bills Players With Plenty To Prove
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to discuss several topics, including a handful of Buffalo Bills players that the guys think have the most to prove in this 2024 season.Despite the huge personnel turnover there's plenty of reason to be excited once again about the Bills this season. That said, it'd be naive to think this roster doesn't have it's fair share of question marks as well as some players being doubted that got plenty to prove. Among them discussed by Patrick and Anthony is Von Miller, who needs to prove if he has any chance of staying with the Bills beyond 2024 that he's not washed up and over the hill at 35 years old. Also, Taylor Rapp needs to prove that he's the player we saw at the end of last season, particularly in Miami if he's going to hold off second-round pick Cole Bishop and the starting strong safety job for a sustained among of time. Meanwhile, Kaiir Elam is highly unlikely to be a starter but will surely get an opportunity at some point--he needs to prove he's not officially a first-round bust. Also, Connor McGovern needs to prove he's capable of successfully moving over from guard to center if h doesn't want a fifth-round rookie center staring over his shoulder and despite being fourth in the NFL in rushing and seventh in the league in total yards from scrimmage last year, James Cook needs to prove he can be trusted to hold on to the football in the passing game and keep the reps Ty Johnson and fourth-round rookie Ray Davis could end up taking from him. That plus the guys talk a little Matt Milano concern, what sport they'd pick to be a star athlete in if they had their choice, the weekly "Finish the Sentence" segment and much more. Ep 803Lindsey Moppert, WGRZ-TV Buffalo Sports Anchor & Reporter
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by WGRZ-TV sports anchor and reporter Lindsey Moppert to discuss her life and career to this point with a heavy focus on getting to know Lindsey and how she feels about working and living in Buffalo.Moppert is just approaching her mid-20's but is already beginning to carve out a nice sports broadcasting career for herself. Lindsey talks about growing up near Philly and always loving sports, with cheerleading becoming a big part of her life before she even turned five and would ultimately take her to becoming a captain on the college cheerleading team at Temple. She also talks about how the opportunity came about to join WRGZ-TV and move to Buffalo just a handful of months upon graduating college---a rarity for a young adult essentially fresh out of college to get a job in a market the size of Buffalo. Also discussed is the positive impact now former WGRZ sports director Adam Benignin had on her as well as the newest sports director there, Jon Scott. That plus the process of gaining confidence in front of the camera, views on social media, the "Fun Fact Finale" and a ton more with one of Buffalo's rising media stars. Make sure to follow Lindsey on Twitter at @LindseyMoppTV and check out the great work she's doing at WGRZ-TV.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 802Power Ranking The 2024 Buffalo Bills Road Trips
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens and each are power ranking the Buffalo Bills 2024 road games in order from the least to the most they'd like to be able to make it a road trip. The Bills are on the road nine times this year, three of course consisting of trips to Foxboro, Miami and New York/New Jersey like every year. They're also at (in order of schedule) Baltimore (Sunday night), Houston, Seattle, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Detroit. Patrick asked Joe to rank all the games in order he'd like take a road trip to watch them in person based on some criteria, including the opponent, desire to see the city/region for either the first time or again, potential weather and time of year with Joe adding in cost as a factor. There were a few surprises in each person's countdown, including Miami being surprisingly low among both but a huge difference between the two when it came to going to Foxboro and Baltimore. Each guy has a different game ranked at the top of their list and here's a spoiler alert---Patrick asks Joe if he's planning on buying a Stefon Diggs Houston Texans jersey. What are your preferred destinations among the Bills road trips this year? Ep 801Joe Yerdon Returns To Talk Sabres & Bills (800th Episode)
EOn this milestone 800th episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by writer and sports media personality Joe Yerdon for the first time in nearly seven months to talk about the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bills and plenty more. After spending some time catching up with fun conversation, they dive into the Sabres and Patrick gets the lowdown on how it was for Joe covering a team full-time this season that underachieved both on the ice and organizationally. Shockwaves were recently sent throughout Buffalo if not the league when Terry Pegula appointed Lindy Ruff the head coach again, several years after firing him. Joe has many thoughts on Ruff once again becoming head coach and that process, if he's the right guy for the job and if he felt the current crop of players threw now former head coach Don Granato under the bus a little bit in the aftermath of being fired. They also spend some time talking Bills and Patrick's always liked talking about the team with Joe because he's a self noted "Bills follower" not a fan. Joe's go thoughts on the large volume of big named turnover, if he thinks the offense should be better balanced as opposed to having that true alpha number one receiver, the Super Bowl window for Buffalo still being pretty wide open and a clash this year late in the season between Buffalo and Joe's favorite team, the Detroit Lions. That plus elite summertime is coming and tons more. Ep 800Opportunity Knocks For Bills WR Khalil Shakir
EIt's another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo as Patrick Moran is responding to several takes and questions submitted by consumers of the show, including an opportunity for Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir to become a star on this team in year three.Shakir stepped up big in the second half of the Bills 2023 and with both Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis gone, the chance for Shakir to become a primary part of the Buffalo passing game is there for the taking. Patrick talks about why he thinks Shakir is up to the task and with plenty of other weapons on the offense, could do so in sneaky fashion without a fan fare around the league.Patrick also responds to podcast submissions centered around Marquez Valdes-Scandling having a good first year with Buffalo, the Bills being a team the nationally media doesn't really know anymore, someone who thinks the Bills kinda got screwed with their schedule, sleeping on Dawson Knox and some Culture Club slander.Patrick also has wing reviews for two places he visited for the first time last week---Riverfield 865 and Moor Room. That, plus some prayers for a college player in critical condition Patrick knows and more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 799Five Buffalo Bills Players Being Slept On
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest to over a list consisting of a handful of Buffalo Bills players that at least Patrick thinks are being slept on going into the 2024 season.Players like Josh Allen and Von Miller and especially former players like Stefon Diggs Tre White and Jordan Poyer are commanding most of the offseason attention nationally and even to a certain extent, locally. Perfectly understandable, but this Bills roster is chockfull of some young talent that is likely still ascending that at least on some levels simply fly under the radar. The guys talk about some of them, including Dawson Knox, who saw his production decline last year between a wrist injury and the emergence of rookie first-round pick Dalton Kincaid. That doesn't mean people should be sleeping on Knox's potential in this offense though. This is a guy who caught nearly 50 passes for over 500 yards in both 2021 and 2022 with 15 touchdowns during that span. He's also been good in the playoffs. Also, people tend to think of Rasul Douglas first when it comes to excellent Bills cornerbacks, but Christian Benford was (very) quietly graded by PFF among the very best corners in the NFL last season. The guys have thoughts on him as well as James Cook and a pair of still relatively young defensive ends among others. They also acknowledge Buffalo's tribal chief, Josh Allen on his 27th birthday, talk a little NBA hoops, play their "Finish the Sentence" segment and plenty more. Ep 798Why Aren't More Fans, Media Higher On The Bills?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens for a discussion on a lot of national media and fans being lower on the prospects of the Buffalo Bills in 2024 than Vegas gambling sites, and a debate if they should be.Several media outlets, mainly nationally have the Bills pegged to not only fail to win the AFC east for what would be a fifth-consecutive season but to miss the playoffs all together. It's an opinion shared by many and while most Bills fans won't go that far, there seems to be more concern than in recent years. The reality is Vegas and the gambling sites still very much believe in Buffalo, having them among the favorites to win their division, the conference and even the Super Bowl. Josh Allen is also second behind only Patrick Mahomes in MVP betting odds. Internally Patrick is significantly higher on the 2024 Bills than Joe and it leads to some spirited debates. The guys also have thoughts on the Bills recent signing of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, which again and unsurprisingly leads to disagreements between the two. They also have some thoughts on the Bills 2024 after plenty of time to digest it, should Micah Hyde come back to the Bills or not and much more and much more. Ep 7972024 Chicken Wing Rankings & Tiers
EIt's a rare sharp left turn from Buffalo sports talk on Talking Buffalo today as Patrick Moran reveals his wing rankings and tiers for 2024 and is joined by Luke and Tom from the Buffalo Wing Coalition for their thoughts and analysis in a conversation recorded live at Sonny Red's in Lackawanna.Ranking and placing wings into tiers is something Patrick's done at least a handful of times in recent years although it's been 18 months since he's done it last. It was a fun exercise that began in 2016 not long after moving to Florida for what would become five years. On his latest list is 92 different wing spots throughout Western New York (although a small handful of them have recently closed shop) and instead of ranking them 1 through 92 he has them broken up into seven tiers: Waiver Wire, Roster Bubble, Depth Chart, Solid Starters, All-Pro, Elite and of course the four-spot Mt. Rushmore. While these charts are the opinions of Patrick alone, he's joined by two of the guys from the Buffalo Wing Coalition for their insight. The Buffalo Wing Coalition has grown significantly in recent years and these guys do an outstanding job of highlighting one of the region's greatest treasures. They talk about when and why the group started, how they go about reviewing the places they visit, their pyramid of wing spots (six tiers of groupings) and not taking themselves too serious yet understanding their outlet has become a vehicle that a lot of wing goers not only often refer to sometimes even depend on when going out to eat. It's a fun and certainly different type of Talking Buffalo episode than the norm. Make sure you check out the Buffalo Wing Coalition on Instagram (who excel with food porn level photos from their visits) and a big thank you again to Sonny Red's---who alongside Nine-Eleven Tavern, Elmo's and Bar Bill make up this year's Mt. Rushmore.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 796Instant Bills Schedule Reaction, Plus Thoughts on MVS to Buffalo
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by longtime friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks in studio for live reaction just moments after the 2024 Buffalo Bills schedule was officially released, in addition to plenty of thoughts about Bills new wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.Week two primetime matchup in Miami, a home late afternoon clash with the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and Sunday night game in Orchard Park against San Francisco two weeks later are the highlight dates of the schedule. The guys both have thoughts on how the schedule's been structured and if the flow of it is favorable to the Bills. They also conclude that as things stand right now, this could prove to be a very tough slate for Buffalo. The guys also have reaction to the Bills signing wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling earlier this week. Patrick is pretty high on the signing at this stage of the offseason, certainly a lot higher than he was when they signed Chase Claypool, and thinks that MVS isn't just a bottom of the roster addition who may not even make the team. Does Tone Pucks feel the same way? That plus thoughts on Seth Appert joining Lindy Ruff's coaching staff with the Buffalo Sabres, Culture Club and plenty more. Ep 795The "Wow, I Didn't See That Coming" Bills Guy (Podbag)
EIt's the weekly Podbag on today's Talking Buffalo, the episode where fans control the topics with their takes and questions for Patrick Moran to reply too, focused (as usual) heavily on the Buffalo Bills. One question in particular that got Patrick thinking was a question asking who's going to be the Bills player that has one of those "wow" seasons you didn't see coming, referencing Terrell Bernard as that guy last year. Patrick's forced to think long and hard before ultimately coming up with another guy on the defensive side of the ball who may not be that young but definitely still may be ascending and with opportunity is capable of having a monster year. Also, the Bills signed wide receiver Marquez Valdez-Scantling, which immediately garnered a ton of questions and takes and Patrick has plenty of thoughts on the addition and it becomes pretty evident right away that he's a fan of signing, citing a handful of clutch performances in the postseason and his speed to be a deep threat as things this Bills offense is in need of.Patrick also responds to even more Stefon Diggs takes, a fan convinced Buffalo will never beat Kansas City. a fan term Patrick hates, wondering if a free agent veteran may still ultimately return and plenty more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 794Why The Bills Defense Should Be Even Better In 2024
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino for a discussion focused on how the Buffalo Bills defense could end up being even better than it was last season, a 2023 campaign that saw them finish fourth-best in points allowed and ninth in yards. The Bills defense, especially statistically was pretty damn good last year. It's a continuation that's seen them in the top five in fewest points allowed four the five past years. But last year's defense wasn't without cracks and the guys talk about some of those issues, including the unit's failure to close out games with a (very) late lead three times, some awful injury luck and a penchant for imploding in games the team didn't win. They spend a good chunk of this show explaining some factors that could lead to the defense being better this season, even if not statistically. Among those reasons are getting Matt Milano back, a solid influx of youth and athleticism at all three levels of the defense, improved depth at defensive tackle, Von Miller coming into camp 100% healthy again and just the belief that they'll have better luck with team crippling injuries. They also do their "Finish the Sentence" segment, talk about the recent surge of Talking Buffalo and much more. Ep 793Trends Of A Joe Brady Buffalo Bills Offense
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens for a chat about some noticeable trends from a Joe Brady coordinated offense for the Buffalo Bills going into the 2024 season in addition to thoughts on John Murphy retiring and some Bills schedule predictions. The Bills seemed to have more success last season after Sean McDermott fired Ken Dorsey as offensive coordinator following the Denver loss in Week 10 and replacing him with Brady. The Bills record was certainly better from that point on, but was the offense really more efficient? Patrick looked into some statistics and found trends the guys talk about, including a big change in time of possession, the needing to continuing to move towards running the football more, no singular lion's share of passing targets and significant upticks for two weapons. They also talk about a few things that were perceived as big changes but really werent---such as Josh Allen's turnovers and rushing attempts/yards.Also, John Murphy is retiring from being the radio voice of the Buffalo Bills after 35 years, including the past 19 as the team's play-by-play guy. Murphy suffered a stroke in early 2023 and talking remains too difficult for him to continue the job. The guys talk about his career, one that spans in Buffalo for well over three decades and how they felt about him as an on-air talent. They also each make three predictions for the Bills 2024 schedule in advance of it being officially released on Wednesday night and much more.
