Ep 742How Much Juice Does Stefon Diggs Have Left?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest and frenemy Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, most notably trying to figure out if Stefon Diggs' production is headed towards the edge of a cliff or if the back half of last season was an anomaly.Diggs has been unbelievably great in totality during his first four seasons in Buffalo. In fact, he's pretty much re-written the team's record books when it comes to receptions and yards. However, his production completely fell into the abyss over the last nine games of this past season including the playoffs, where he failed to crack eight receptions or 88 yards receiving in any of the games and had a hugely uncharacteristic costly drop in the fourth quarter of the playoff loss. The guys examine what's going on with Diggs and if the productivity nose dive was more an element of the offensive coordinator in-season switch and schemes or if it's more Diggs suffering from simply getting older (he'll be 31 this season) and tons of wear and tear on him physically. They also discuss the significance of adding more and better pass catchers on the roster regardless of what Diggs' future holds and speaking of, they also debate on when the time Diggs won't be in Buffalo may come. They also discuss a little Buffalo Sabres hockey after the team's been on a heater of late, a shout-out to local media member Jonah Bronstein, some Coach Dickerson stories and much more today.Follow Joe on Twitter @BuffaloWins.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 741Fan Friday: Bold Bills/NFL Predictions & More Sabres Angst
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's Fan Friday and Patrick Moran is answering and replying to a bunch of comments and questions focused primarily on the Bills and Sabres submitted from listeners and watchers of the show in this weekly fan-driven segment. It's always fun to speculate and make bold predictions and that's exactly what happens right off the bat when a listener asks Patrick to come up with three bold offseason predictions from both a Buffalo Bills and NFL standpoint. It leads to him predicting one prominent pending free agent will sign with the team while another heads to the NFL south and a new addition comes from the AFC's top seed this past season. There's plenty more Bills talk on this episode as well, including the never-ending Josh Allen vs Patrick Mahomes comparison and differing opinions of Buffalo's coaching and football philosophy.Of course there's some Sabres submissions as well and as you could guess, they're not positive. This week's crops futures a few boiling point frustration level takes from people who've been fans of the team since longer than most of us have been alive. That, plus Patrick reveals who he thinks is the most underrated podcaster in the Buffalo market and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 740Fans Show Hater Behavior With Damar Hamlin
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran takes issue with negative comments from a lot of fans that followed Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin saying at collectibles event in Pittsburgh that he would love to end his career playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers.Hamlin, who is from PA and played his college ball at Pittsburgh said that playing for the Steelers has been on his bucket list. To put it mildly, that did not go over well with a lot fans. Patrick talks about some of the reaction he saw on social media, primarily Twitter following the reports of Hamlin's comments and despises the negativity. He talks about fans and the media wanting players, coaches and executive to be more honest and forthcoming with their comments and analysis and then become hypocrites and get angry when something's said they're not wanting to hear.Patrick defends Hamlin for being honest and also being a good enough football player to conclude he's not so easily disposable, as some of the Bills fans that are suddenly angry at him think. It's a singular topic based on players being honest and the hypocrisy they're often treated with over it.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 739Ten Receivers The Bills Could Realistically Target
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran sifts through a list he compiled of 10 pending free agent wide receivers he thinks the Bills realistically could--and in some cases should target when free agency begins on March 11.Emphasizing the word realistic, Patrick's list includes a young player he's super high on in Noah Brown, a guy in Josh Reynolds who'll be remembered for two crucial drops for Detroit in the playoffs this year but still had a really good season, and sort of a Gabe Davis clone in Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. Patrick also his eyes on a veteran some will surely think is washed up (Michael Thomas) as well as a talented receiver in Kendrick Bourne who tore his ACL last season.Patrick also spends some time discussing a handful of bigger names that simply won't be realistically affordable if they even end up available anyway, including Michael Pittman Jr. and Calvin Ridley as well as some well known players he simply doesn't have interest in, including Odell Beckham Jr. and Chase Claypool. That plus a few Bills news items and plenty more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 738Brian Koziol, WGR-550 Talks Sabres & Bills
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by longtime WGR radio host and Buffalo Sabres intermission and postgame host Brian Koziol for a conversation focused on why the team he covers continue to stuggle. The Sabres are almost a complete lock to miss the NHL playoffs for a 13th consecutive season, extending their own NHL record for postseason futility. It's frustrating any season but even more so this time around considering the Sabres were literally just two points away from making the playoffs last season. Brian has plenty of thoughts on why this is happening, including takes on why the team consistently plays better on the road than at home, lack of production from star players, injuries, coaching and an organization that simply hasn't been able to put things together. In addition to a little Buffalo Bills talk as well, which includes one pending free agent (Mike Evans) both guys would love to see the Bills go all-in for, they also talk disdain many WGR postgame callers have following Sabres losses and how Brian deals with it, plus some teaching and podcasting talk as well. You can follow Brian on Twitter @BrianWGR and check him out on WGR-550 Buffalo in between periods and following Sabres games.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 737Joe From Queens Reloads With Buffalo Sports Hot Takes
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Joe From Queens returns for the first time in over eight and a half months for plenty of spirited Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres talk in addition to shedding light on the fall out that led to Joe's long absence.Behind the scenes issues between Patrick and Joe led to Joe not wanting to be on the podcast for several months and the guys are candid in talking about it, with both sides presenting the personal problems they had with each other during the process. After the dust settles from discussing the podcast breakup the guys turn their attention to the Bills and Sabres, and Joe has plenty of takes on both of them, including his desire to see Sean McDermott push to have their primary resources directed towards wide receiver and Josh Allen throwing the ball more as opposed to putting money and draft capital more heavily on the defense. That plus examining if the Sabres drought has been worse than the Bills 17-year drought before 2017, how the card is currently looking for Wrestlemania at this point and plenty more.Follow Joe on Twitter @BuffaloWins.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 736Fan Friday: Bills Takes Galore And Sabres Angst
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, it’s “Fan Friday” and Patrick Moran reads off several comments and questions from fans, including the never-ending Patrick Mahomes vs Josh Allen debate, Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre White's future and plenty of Buffalo Sabres angst.During a recent podcast episode conversation with Anthony Marino, both he and Patrick said that they wouldn't trade Allen for anyone if they were the Bills, same as the Chiefs surely feel about Mahomes. That certainly didn't resonate well with Kansas City fans. Questions/comments from both ends of the spectrum are represented and Patrick does his best to explain exactly what they meant. Also, Tre White is asked about as is sixth-round draft pick Christian Benford and a statement about NFL mock drafts. On the Sabres side, plenty of fans are angry at the organization and with good reason--we dedicated an entire episode earlier this week to them being the worst organization in all of major pro sports. That plus things Patrick wished he had more time for, a song that reminds you of high school, the recent Podcaster's Roundtable and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 735What Pending Free Agents Should The Buffalo Bills Re-Sign?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino from Buffalo Rumblings to go over the entire slate of pending Buffalo Bills free agent and figure out which ones they'd most like to see Bills general manager Brandon Beane re-sign.This list of players in Buffalo due to soon become free agents when the tampering period begins on March 11 is quite extensive, 21 scheduled unrestricted free agents as of this recording to be exact. Among them are Leonard Floyd, AJ Epenesa, Micah Hyde, DaQuan Jones, Gabe Davis, Cam Lewis and Tyrel Dodson. The guys spend time going through many of them and with key players like Floyd and Davis conclude that the Bills finally being in rough salary cap shape almost certainly prevents them from coming back. Anthony debates between Jones and Epenesa while Patrick sees a low-key name he considers important for Beane to re-sign (spoiler---it's Cam Lewis)They also discuss where Justin Fields may end up next season, the New England Patriots being a team where big changes are expected, their "Finish the Sentence" segment and much more.Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino and check out Buffalo Rumblings, featuring written and podcast/vidcast content pretty much daily.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 734Evaluating Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane's 2023 Job Performance
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran reviews the 2023 job performance of Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane, ranging from re-signing his own free agents to adding new ones, the draft and an notable in-season trade. For a third consecutive season the Bills saw their Super Bowl hopes come crashing down with a divisional round playoff loss and the second straight time it's happened at home in Orchard Park? How much blame does Beane deserve for that? According to Patrick, not much. He talks about being extremely pleased with the roster Beane constructed over the past year in terms of both talent and especially roster depth. Buffalo was crippled with injuries for a second straight year but Beane strategically had enough quality veteran depth to keep the train chugging as the Bills did capture their fourth consecutive divisional title. From bringing back Jordan Poyer and Tyrel Dodson to adding guys like Leonard Floyd, Connor McGovern and David Edwards in addition to finding two immediate starters in the draft and adding Rasul Douglas before the trade deadline, Patrick feels Beane did everything realistically possible to have the Bills in position to win a Super Bowl in 2023.Instead, the blame goes to the combination of bad injury luck late in the season and the reality that too many Bills star players not named Josh Allen fell on their face against the Chiefs in the playoffs. That and plenty more is discussed today.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 733The Buffalo Sabres Are The Worst Organization In Major Pro Sports
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is completely fed up with the ineptitude of the Buffalo Sabres and goes on several tangents outlying why he thinks they are the worst organization not just in the NHL, but of all four major sports.Over the past few days the Sabres went to Minnesota and beat a tough Wild team in overtime on the road, only to return home and inexcusably lose to a terrible Anaheim Ducks team, a team that actually swept both games against Buffalo. It led Patrick to realizing both games are a microcosm of a Sabres organization that perennially finds ways to blow anything good they got going.Patrick backs up his case by reciting tons of notes, ranging from their woes this season and going back throughout the entire drought that sees no end in sight. Along the way he throws out a bunch of terrible free agent signings, extensions and trades GMs made, Ralph Krueger playing 30-goal scorers on fourth line and a host of Sabres from the 2015-16 that all went on to achieve great team success--- after leaving the Sabres organization. He also goes through five other major professional sports organizations that deserve consideration but arrives at the conclusion that only the New York Jets even belong in the same conversation as the Sabres. That and plenty more on today's extremely animated and opinionated episode.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 732Buffalo Podcaster Roundtable (4.0) With Joe Marino, Greg Tompsett & Bruce Nolan
EOn this special six-year anniversary episode of Talking Buffalo, it’s the fourth annual podcaster’s roundtable as Patrick is again joined by three of the absolute premiere Buffalo Bills content creators you'll find in the Buffalo sports market or anywhere else — Joe Marino (Locked on Bills), Greg Tompsett (Cover 1) and Bruce Nolan (Buffalo Rumblings ) for another discussion focused heavily on the evolving process of content creating. For a fourth consecutive winter Patrick gathers three of the most popular and listened to Bills content creators to talk about everything except----the Buffalo Bills. Instead the guys have an interactive conversation revolving around podcasting, including how it's changed for them over the past handful of years, things that they still struggle with from time to time with podcasting, things they've picked up by watching/listening to others and a behind the scenes chat about how they prepare to put together each episode. The guys also talk about if they feel a bit spoiled covering a team that's become an annual contender like the Bills instead of a perennial loser like the Buffalo Sabres, navigating the tricky waters of social media these days and tons more. Again, a great conversation and chance to learn a little about three of the very best in the Bills media market today.Follow Joe Marino on Twitter @TheJoeMarino and check out his Locked on Bills podcast, new shows published every weekday. Ep 73110 Realistic Buffalo Bills Cut Candidates
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran runs down his list of what he thinks are the 10 most realistic Buffalo Bills cut candidates now that the NFL offseason has officially begun. For the first time in several years the Bills are a mess in regards to their salary cap situation. In fact, they are the second-most over the cap team in the NFL as things stand. Brandon Beane and company will be making several moves over the next handful of weeks to improve their cap standing, which will include a handful of player restructures (Josh Allen being a lock), possibly a few player extensions and maybe getting a player or two to accept a pay cut to give the Bills sufficient operating room going into free agency and the draft.Even so, there's going to be a handful of tough decisions for Beane to make when it comes to roster cuts and potential cap savings. Buffalo's avoided having to cut players because of cap reasons they'd otherwise certainly hold onto---until now. Patrick goes over his list of 10 possibilities, ranked from least to most likeliest. The list ranges from fringe depth all the way to a trio of solid players, including a trio of former NFL All-Pro's. Alongside a list of players Patrick explains why it's possible Beane works out something with each or why it's (in most cases) realistic he simply cuts ties all together.Great ready, Bills fans---a potentially challenging offseason begins now.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 730What Stops The Bills From Getting Over The KC Hump?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino from Buffalo Rumblings to discuss the biggest thing(s) that are stopping the Buffalo Bills from getting over the Kansas City Chiefs hump on the heels of the Chiefs winning their third Super Bowl in five years.Spoiler alert---it's not Patrick Mahomes being so much (if at all) better than Josh Allen. Not only has Allen led the Bills to three consecutive road wins versus Kansas City in the regular season, but he's played more than well enough to have deserved a win in Buffalo's last two playoff elimination losses to the Chiefs. What has killed the Bills, a focal point of this discussion is some of Buffalo's other star players performing like anything but stars when the games matter most. While guys like Chris Jones and Travis Kelce always seem to rise in playoff defining moments, Buffalo's key non-quarterback players have faceplanted in the postseason. The guys also give their takes on if they think players in Buffalo get judged by fans and the media too much for their work in the regular season and not in the playoffs, poor injury luck playing a role in recent Bills playoff exits, a little peak into Buffalo's upcoming offseason and much more.Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino and check out Buffalo Rumblings, featuring written and podcast/vidcast content pretty much daily.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 729Live Reaction: Sabres Pummel Kings (But Still Ain't Good)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective for live postgame reaction in a podcast streamed immediately following the Buffalo Sabres annihilating the Los Angeles Kings at the Key Bank Center Tuesday night, 7-0.It was the Sabres most convincing win of the season and the guy discuss several aspects of it, most notably UPL getting his fourth shutout of the season (33 saves) as he continues to be far and away the team's biggest bright spot on an overall disappointing season. Jordan Greenway and Zack Benson were among other Sabres who also did several good things in their shutout over Los Angeles, their largest shutout victory since 2001.That said, the hater hats quickly go on Patrick and PK as they turn their focus on the totality of the season through 52 games, which has saw Buffalo woefully underachieve if your expectations for this season were the playoffs. Short of a minor miracle the Sabres are poised to miss the playoffs for a NHL record 13th consecutive season. Should Don Granato have been fired or at least be on the hot seat? How much does bad injury luck play a role in where the Sabres are at right now? Why is the power play so dreadful? The guys also talk a little Super Bowl, cruising and much more. You can follow PK on Twitter @PK_BSC and check out the Buffalo Sports Collective podcast.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 728State Of The Buffalo Bills (Happy Version!)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, the second of a two-part series, Patrick Moran examines the state of the Buffalo Bills with this one being the "happy version", a good vibes only list of things about the team to excite fans as they start move onward towards the 2024 season.Unlike the doom and gloom of yesterday's episode, today the focus is on good things and that starts with the franchise quarterback. Patrick talks about how despite a midseason offensive coordinator change and declining production from his top wideout, Josh Allen continued to play at a level very few quarterbacks in the NFL are capable of playing at. In fact, Josh was quite realistically two more Bills team wins/non choke jobs away from likely winning the 2023 NFL MVP that instead went to Lamar Jackson.Part of Allen's and the offensive turnaround in general during the back half of the season is attributed to extremely promising play from rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid, wide receiver Khalil Shakir and running back James Cook. Patrick discusses their importance and what a luxury it is to have all three for multiple years under contract at ridiculously affordable rates (less than a $6 million 2024 cap hit from all three combined).Among other topics discussed is the borderline stunning development of Terrell Bernard nearly instantly becoming a star middle linebacker, the best offensive line of the Brandon Beane/Sean McDermott regime, McDermott becoming far more aggressive as the season wore on and excitement about the Bills having two rising young coordinators in Joe Brady and Bobby Babich. That and plenty more--no pissing in your Cheerios today, Bills fans!♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 727State of the Buffalo Bills (Sad Version)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, the first of a two-part series, Patrick Moran examines the state of the Buffalo Bills with this one being the "sad version", a list of concerning things about the team as they move onwards towards the 2024 season.Among the topics Patrick jumps into is the Bills extremely undesirable salary cap situation, a huge factor in 2024 that's going to leak into several facets of the team. Among them is a handful of potential veteran cuts that would be mostly if not entirely salary cap related---a list Patrick thinks could potentially include Tre White, Mitch Mors and Jordan Poyer among others. Beyond players currently under contract it's also expected to several prohibit Brandon Beane from going out to get solid veteran depth for the roster like he has over the past four seasons. There's a slew of pending Bills free agents, including DaQuan Jones, Gabe Davis and AJ Epenesa not to mention quality role players like Taylor Rapp, David Edwards and Tyrel Dodson. Also, there's additional worrisome things Patrick talks about---such as Von Miller potentially being washed up, questioning if Matt Milano will be the same player after his severe leg injury, the possibility of more Stefon Diggs drama (and declining production) as well as wondering if this team has gotten as far as it's going to under Sean McDermott and if these Bills are destined to end up like the a quality NBA team from years ago. That and more in this intentionally gloomy look at the state of the Bills. Don't fret though--tomorrow's show will be significantly more upbeat, it's the "happy version."♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 726Fan Friday: The "Unlucky" Bills (Cruise Edition)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's "Fan Friday" and Patrick Moran reads off several comments and questions from fans with takes on those topics of his own, including a handful focused on the Buffalo Bills getting unlucky the past few seasons with injuries and the recent devaluing of earning the two seed in the AFC.Several fans are quick to point out how hard the Bills have been hit with injuries over the past two seasons, to the point it nearly feels unfair---- Von Miller tearing his ACL in 2022 and DaQuan Jones missing the Bills elimination loss to the Bengals and this year with Matt Milano and Tre White's season-enders not to mention Terrell Bernard missing the Kansas City game a few weeks in addition to other important pieces. Patrick agrees about the injury bug decimating the Bills but using that as a primary excuse feels empty when considering they faced a Pittsburgh team in the wild card this year without TJ Watt, a Chiefs team that had some key injuries of their own, a third-string quarterback for Miami in last year's wild card and a Bengals team that was missing three starting offensive lineman and a defensive back last year. Also included is this episode is continued fallout from Tyler Dunne's in studio recent appearance on this show, favorite former Buffalo Bills players, the toughest person Patrick's had to interview on this show, Nine Eleven Tavern talk, an outstandingly optimistic portrait of the Bills from a fan and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 725Dom Tibbetts, WKBW-TV Sports Reporter & Anchor
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by WKBW-TV sports reporter and anchor Dom Tibbetts for a candid and fun conversation about his life and career through this point.Tibbetts talks about growing up in the Syracuse area and knowing at a young age that being in sports broadcasting was a dream he was willing to chase. It was a path that sent him around the country before ultimately landing in Buffalo at Channel 7. After college Tibbetts discusses the process of applying for more than 40 jobs before finally getting his opportunity---taking him all the way to Butte, Montana. The guys talk about culture shock living out west and then again in 2020 where Tibbetts' career took him to Tallahassee, Florida. Dom talks about how big college and high school sports are in Florida and some of the challenges that came with going to a job during the height of the Covid era.Tibbetts was looking for a chance to get into the Buffalo market and that came in 2022. He talks about how that opportunity came about and with respect to Florida it was an easy decision for him. They also discuss some of his colleagues at the station, peers in the Buffalo sports media market and how for the most part everyone's friendly with each other. They end with a "Fun Fact Finale", which hasn't happened in a hot minute on this show because it's been a while since having a first-time guest. Included among the cool things we learn about Dom is his early crush on Shania Twain, a unique go-to snack, a bad habit he calls himself out for and him winning $10,000 and other goodies before as a contestant on The Price is Right.Be sure to follow Dom on Twitter @DomTibbetsTV and check out the great work he's doing over at Channel 7. ♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 724The Buffalo Bills 2023 Season Awards Episode
EOn today's Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks for a second consecutive day, this time to hand out some hardware during our Buffalo Bills 2023 season awards episode. There's not really much to debate when it comes to obvious selections like Team MVP (Josh Allen) and Rookie of the Year (Dalton Kincaid) but the disagreements start with Defensive MVP, having Pucks take the linebacker (Terrell Bernard) who became a revelation in his first year as a starter while Patrick gave the nod to Ed Oliver despite his faceplant against Kansas City in the playoffs---something Pucks doesn't agree with either and explains why. They also some banter among other awards, including best and worst individual performances, best and worst games of the season, best and worst offseason additions and their single-favorite thing about the 2023 season now that it's over. That plus Tone Pucks continues to get angry about the Buffalo Sabres even though they're not really a topic of discussion today and much more.Follow Tone Pucks on Twitter @TonePucksRedux♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 723Buffalo Sabres Midseason Review & Awards
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks to discuss the Buffalo Sabres as they come off the All-Star break and into their final 33 games of the season in addition to handing out some midseason awards for them---the good, bad and ugly. There were a lot of expectations on the Sabres this season to finally break their playoff drought but through 49 games that hasn't come to fruition. The guys discuss a lot of went wrong and why they're 11 points off last year's pace, ranging from the inability to put a real winning streak together to an abundance of injuries to star players and a straight-up lack of consistent stepping up from other players that's led to a big dip offensively. They then hand out some midseason hardware, with a disagreement for team MVP so far. Patrick explains why he went with Casey Mittelstadt while Pucks argues for UPL. They also give out awards for other categories including most pleasantly surprising player, biggest disappointment, unsung hero, best and worst additions, favorite thing about the season so far and least favorite thing about the season, which sends Pucks into a tangent. That plus countless Tone Pucks references to "The Titanic" and much more.Follow Tone Pucks on Twitter @TonePucksRedux♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 721Fan Friday: Re-Signing Gabe, Keeping Poyer & Sabres Deadline Sellers?
EIt’s another edition of Fan Friday on this episode of Talking Buffalo and host Patrick Moran is joined for a second straight day by friend/recurring guest Tone Pucks and together they take some questions and comments from fans, including those pointed towards Gabe Davis, Sean McDermott, Jordan Poyer, Sabres potential trades and all-time video game favorites. As you'd suspect the comments and questions are heavy on the Buffalo Bills side and the guys answer from show listeners wanting to know if they think Buffalo is going to re-sign Davis (a pending free agent), and/or keep Poyer for the final year of his contract. Also, the guys are asked if they'd retain or fire McDermott if it where them making the decisions as well as if they think Tyler Dunne's scathing McDermott commentary actually helped saved their season.Beyond football, a listener wants to know if the Sabres will make trades as sellers near the deadline if they don't make a run soon and who are the most likely candidates if that happens, sending Patrick and Tone into a conversation primarily about Casey Mittelstadt. The thought, a realistic one of losing Mittlestadt soon enough in particular angers Tone Pucks. They also answer questions revolving about where they'd most to live, favorite re-watchable TV shows, the thing they liked most about where they grew up and plenty more---a fun and causal Friday of sorts!Follow Tone Pucks on Twitter @TonePucksRedux♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 720Are The Bills Destined To Be The 90's New York Knicks?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks to discuss several topics, including why they think Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott got it right by removing the interim tag with offensive coordinator Joe Brady and promoting linebackers coach Bobby Babich to defensive coordinator.Babich has been with Sean McDermott throughout his tenure in Buffalo, starting out with the safeties before coaching the linebackers over the past two years. He's credited by players for helping transform Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde and Matt Milano into All-Pro players at their respective positions, not to mention the development of Terrell Bernard over this past season. Of course, the Bills offense improved significantly when Brady took over Ken Dorsey following Buffalo's loss at Denver, becoming much more effective at running the football in the process---porn music to Sean's ears. The guys talk about why they think staying with these guys to coordinate the offense and defense is absolutely the right call, with Patrick going as far to say he's heard from a player to not be surprised if Babich is a NFL head coach within two years. They also talk about where their level of annoyance is currently at following the season ending at the hands of Kansas City, how much blame should Ed Oliver and Stefon Diggs be getting, how locked in Tone Pucks plans on being for this Bills offseason and plenty more.Follow Tone Pucks on Twitter @TonePucksRedux♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 719Are Bills Star Players Escaping Proper Criticism?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran takes a little examination into the Buffalo Bills divisional round playoff loss and coupled with elimination losses of recent years past, wonders if a few of the Bills star players are escaping the proper level of criticism instead of everything seemingly falling on head coach Sean McDermott.McDermott seems to be the low hanging fruit when it comes to assigning blame for the Bills playoff stalls over the past three years. Of course plenty of that is warranted with numerous statistical data and instances of McDermott mistakes to support it. However, one could argue (and Patrick certainly does) that the biggest reason the Chiefs were able to come in to Orchard Park and knock the Bills out of the playoffs is actually simple----their two biggest non-quarterback stars significantly outperformed the Bills two biggest non-quarterback stars, Stefon Diggs and Ed Oliver. It's not the first elimination game faceplant for the Bills talented duo either. Are they just regular dynamos?Patrick also spends some time talking about the podcast episode yesterday with Tyler Dunne in studio and some of his biggest takeaways from that conversation. That and much more today.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 718Tyler Dunne Talks Sean McDermott Series & Bills (In Studio)
EOn this special episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in studio by sports journalist Tyler Dunne to discuss several Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including his explosive series on Bills head coach Sean McDermott and his season-ending follow up column after the Bills saw their season end in the divisional round for a third straight season and second consecutive time on their home field.Dunne's three-part series "The McDermott Problem" garnered national attention when it was released in early December and quite literally had McDermott address an excerpt from it during his media presser the day after Dunne's content dropped. Tyler talks about the process of putting the work together and especially the aftermath, answering criticism from many Bills fans that've accused Dunne of putting out a McDermott hit piece and having a personal axe to grind against the Bills organization. Was Tyler a little surprised with the extreme level of reaction, both good and bad that his McDermott content has elicited? The guys also spend time discussing why Dunne not only launched Go Long but continues to run it both as his passion or business when there's surely plenty of high profile media jobs out there he could take if he wanted. That plus tons of Bills/NFL talk and plenty more in this special episode presented by Imperial Pizza. You can follow Tyler on Twitter @TyDunne. Ep 717Brady Named Bills OC, Chiefs vs 49ers, Sabres & More
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has thoughts on several topics ranging from Joe Brady being officially named Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator, a search for a coordinator on the other side seemingly underway, Bills injuries excuses being valid, a Chiefs vs 49ers Super Bowl and a move the Buffalo Sabres need to make.To the surprise of pretty much no one, Joe Brady was officially elevated to Bills full-time offensive coordinator. Patrick has thoughts on why it's the right decision on many levels and the one piece that Brady's surely missing that could help elevate the offense to a new level in 2024. Also of interest is now former defensive line coach leaving to come defensive coordinator in Chicago. With the Bills interviewing candidates for the position, does this mean McDermott's at least relinquishing the title and if so, should it go to Bobby Babich? Also, the Chiefs went on the road and defensively dominated the Ravens to reach the Super Bowl for their fourth time in the past six years. Does this end any discussion of anyone other than Patrick Mahomes being the best quarterback in football? On the NFC side it's the San Francisco 49ers going to the Super Bowl but does it feel like they even won on Sunday compared to the Detroit Lions gagging the opportunity away? That plus Juri Kulich needing to be the guy to step in for Jack Quinn with the Sabres, a prominent guest coming on the show tomorrow and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 716Is Micah Hyde Bills Wall of Fame Worthy?
EOn this bonus weekend edition of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran poses the question if current (for the moment) Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde should ultimately land on the Bills Wall of Fame after his playing days are over, making a case for and against his inclusion.Hyde, 33 hasn't retired or given any public indication that he's on the verge of doing so. Regardless of whether he does or not, his contract with the Bills is up and will soon become a free agent if he decides to continue playing. With the Bills in a pretty significant messy salary cap situation this offseason, the chances of Hyde returning while not impossible are extremely unlucky. Micah's wife Amanda put out a beautiful statement on social media this week talking about how much Buffalo has mean to Micah and his family over his seven years with the team, giving a sense to many that it's the end of the road for his time in Buffalo and quite possibly professional football all together. Got us thinking---should Micah someday be immortalized by the team with a spot on their Wall of Fame?Patrick makes a case for that answer being yes, talking about Hyde being largely responsible as a core player for the team's turnaround following the drought era as well as pointing a few guys already on the Bills Wall he feels Hyde's more deserving of, some of Micah's best individual accolades and special moments and the leadership role he was so very good at.Also playing Devil's advocate there's a few reasons why this may never happen, including some former players perhaps more deserving that haven't had their name called, the team's unwillingness to put any one on the Wall at all in recent years and wondering if five good years from Hyde's enough for this high of a honor. Also included are several comments from fans. That and more today.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 715Fan Friday: Bills Reflections, Sabres Stink, Random Regrets & More
EIt’s another edition of Fan Friday on this episode of Talking Buffalo and host Patrick Moran takes some questions and comments from fans, primarily focused on (but not limited to) takes from the Buffalo Bills having their season end against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional round for a third straight year and variance of how fans feel about the team moving forward. As you'd expect with the Bills (or any ) fan base, there's a mixture of optimism and pessimism about Buffalo going forward after losing to Kansas City for the third time in three times in the playoffs under this current regime. Questions and comments range from feeling good about the team and using injuries as a legitimate excuse to thinking it may be time to make some significant changes. One fans uses a Green Bay example as a reason for the Bills to stay the course while another points out how the Bills are still in way better shape than Miami beyond just Josh Allen. Also discussed are the Sabres, the Royal Rumble coming up this weekend, podcast stuff and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 714What Went Wrong With The Bills?
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino from Buffalo Rumblings to discuss some of the biggest things that went wrong for the Buffalo Bills as they were eliminated last week by the Kansas City Chiefs, 27-24 in the AFC divisional round. After spending some time discussing their feelings before the game and emotions both during and after it, the guys jump into a handful of topics focused on why Buffalo failed to get past what was perceived as a vulnerable Kansas City team and advance to the conference championship. Among them is the disappearing act for a second consecutive season by Bills star defensive tackle Ed Oliver, head coach Sean McDermott sticking with A.J. Klein even though it was glaringly apparent he wasn't athletically up to the task, other injuries, costly drops from wide receivers including their star, a shaken kicker, persistence on continuing to run the ball even after the Chiefs were selling out defensively and on the other side, McDermott's ugly defensive history in elimination losses continuing. The guys also take a quick little sneak peek into what's sure to be an eventful offseason with changes. tough salary cap decisions and topics that'll be discussed in future episodes.Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino and check out Buffalo Rumblings, featuring written and podcast/vidcast content pretty much daily.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 713Biggest Bills Season Ending Takeaways
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a series of Buffalo Bills season-endings on the heels of their three point loss on Sunday to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional round. Unlike yesterday's show where Patrick was reacting in real time just minutes after the conclusion of the game, this time his thoughts are a bit more measured and calculated and after having the (dreadful) opportunity to watch the game tape back.In the moments that followed Sunday's loss Patrick said he had very little problem with the way Sean McDermott coached the game. That's changed after reviewing the tape, and Patrick points out the big issue he has with McDermott choosing to start and stick with unathletic middle linebacker AJ Klein as the injury replacement for Terrell Bernard instead of the mistake prone but far more athletic rookie Dorian Williams. Klein's lack of speed and overall athleticism stunted the Buffalo defense on several occasions, none so more than when he was forced to cover Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Patrick also points out McDermott not being aggressive enough with blitzing, even if it's the human blitz beater Patrick Mahomes back there when it became apparent the Bills couldn't get to him with four.Patrick also doubles down on the absolute woeful play of the Bills defensive line and in particular, the disappearing act of Ed Oliver for a second straight season in a Bills elimination loss. The film also shows what Patrick suggested immediately after the game---that Von Miller was actually Buffalo's most effective defensive lineman. He also spends some time talking about how in some odd way the season ending is actually a relief to him. That plus Josh Allen, a crazy offseason ahead, content plans for this show, wrath coming for the Buffalo Sabres and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 712Live Reaction: KC Ends Bills Super Bowl Dreams
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran records live to react in real time just minutes after the Buffalo Bills failed to put the Kansas City Chiefs away at home in the divisional round of the playoffs, falling 27-24 to see their Super Bowl dreams come to a crashing end.The Bills, led by Josh Allen did a tremendous job of sustaining drives with both the run and the pass, putting up 24 points but on this night it was defense and special teams that ultimately let the team down. Patrick has thoughts on the disappearing act of Ed Oliver (as well as DaQuan Jones) for a second consecutive Bills elimination loss, the back seven of the defense being powerless (and also unhealthy) to stop Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense until late in the game, and special teams doing what they've done most the season---contributing negative plays to a Buffalo loss.Patrick also goes against early opinions that Sean McDermott did a lousy job coaching the game. Instead he points the finger at the Bills being unable to hit on any of their potential explosive plays, including a huge drop late by Stefon Diggs in addition to Tyler Bass hopefully making his last kick as a Buffalo Bill. You simply can't perform that badly in cold weather like he did for Buffalo down the stretch.Patrick also has thoughts on Josh Allen and a (very) quick peak into what is shaping up to be a very difficult offseason for Brandon Beane. That and much more today. Ugh.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 711Fan Friday: A Legacy Game for the Bills?
EA scheduled live show in Black Rock was cancelled due to inclement weather--and by that we mean this BS weather in Buffalo absolutely sucks. So, in it's place instead is another edition of Fan Friday, and Patrick Moran takes some questions and comments from fans, including how much of a legacy game this is for certain Buffalo Bills, an X-Factor for Buffalo against the Chiefs on Sunday and what are the stakes for guys like Josh Allen and Sean McDermott. The Bills face Kansas City with a trip to the AFC championship on the line and a question from a fan sends Patrick to elaborate on why he thinks it's more than just this game. McDermott and Allen have plenty to prove individually as well and need to get past the Chiefs when it counts.Current Bills injuries are brought up and Patrick has a guess as to who he thinks will be in and out of the lineup for Buffalo on Sunday because of them. What players matter most?Patrick's also asked what he would like to see change if he were a Miami fan, if he thinks media folk secretly root for the teams they cover, thoughts on Bill Belichick likely headed to Atlanta, the absurd amount of snow that has pummeled Western New York over the past week and plenty more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 710Bills vs Chiefs Matchup Preview & Predictions
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, a completely snowed in Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino from Buffalo Rumblings to preview the AFC divisional round showdown between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs this coming Sunday evening in Orchard Park, complete with talk about both teams, keys to a Buffalo victory and predictions (of sorts) from both. The snow is piling up big-time again around Orchard Park late in the week but hopefully it won't cause this week's game to be rescheduled like last week. Patrick talks about the snow pummeling parts of the Southtowns before the guys get into this game. They talk about plenty of the good and bad the Bills are doing on the field and the unfortunate timing of many key injuries going into this game. They also talk about the Chiefs, who are in this position on the strength of a defense that's yet to surrender 28 points in a game all season long. It's made up for an offensive that's been largely inefficient, although they did look good moving and scoring the football in their first round blowout of Miami at Arrowhead Stadium. That's largely because of the emergence of Rashee Rice and the angry running of Isaiah Pacheco. The guys also go over a handful of keys it'll take for the Bills to get to the AFC championships, a few predictions and much more. Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino and check out Buffalo Rumblings, featuring written and podcast/vidcast content pretty much daily.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 709Biggest Bills Takeaways & Getting Ready For KC
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over some of this biggest Buffalo Bills takeaways from their wild card round victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers and what they mean going forward as the team looks forward to matchup versus Kansas City this Sunday everyone wants to see.Patrick likes what he continues to see from the Bills running game and highlights that, including the way James Cook and Ty Johnson were used alongside the legs of course of Josh Allen. Speaking of, we give props to three players who helped pave the way for Allen’s career-best 52 yard touchdown run that put Buffalo up three touchdowns on Sunday. Also highlighted is pass catchers Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid with their emergence taking some of the urgency of Stefon Diggs needing to put up big numbers every week. The Bills won the game, obviously the most important factor but it didn’t come without some warts. Patrick talks of concern about the Bills only dropping Mason Rudolph once and also the lousy afternoon for kicker Tyler Bass. Of course, injuries have suddenly become a huge concern for Buffalo again over the past two weeks and Patrick talks about them and the players they need back most going into the Chiefs game.He also has thoughts on what’s at stake for the organization and some people individually with this matchup, the first road playoff game of Patrick Mahomes’ career. That and plenty more today.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 708LIVE Reactions: Bills Eliminate Steelers
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Tone Pucks to react just minutes after the Buffalo Bills eliminated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-17 in their AFC wild card playoff game. The Bills offense, led of course by Josh Allen was up to task against Pittsburgh, not letting the cold weather become any factor. Josh Allen threw for 203 yards and ran for 72 more, including a career-best 52 yard touchdown scamper to get the Bills out in front by three touchdowns. The guys go over a balanced offense that was (mostly) firing on all cylinders and got everyone everyone involved.Unfortunately the win came with a price, as several Bills defenders went down with injuries including Terrell Bernard, Taron Johnson and Christian Benford. Patrick and Tone talk about the injuries and how it's going to effect this defense as the Bills head to the second round to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Orchard Park.Speaking of, Tone can't help himself but jump right into some Bills vs Chiefs talk. It's going to be an exciting week for the Bills, their fans and this podcast as well. That plus perhaps a few minutes of Buffalo Sabres talk and more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 707The Great Buffalo Snow Storm of 2024 (Featuring Joe Miller)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe Miller of Buffalo Rumblings to discuss elements of the crazy snow storm that rocked Western New York over the weekend and forced the NFL to postpone the Buffalo Bills vs Pittsburgh Steelers wild card playoff game back a day from Sunday to Monday.By early Saturday it was apparent that the snow and wind storm slated to hit Western New York wasn't going to be a dud. Driving bans were proactively enacted and by noon on Saturday New York governor Kathy Hochul announced the game scheduled for 1pm on Sunday was being postponed a day. The guys discuss their opinions on the game being moved early and it ultimately being the right call as well as a notable change in government philosophy after last year's Christmas blizzard calamity in Buffalo. They also talk a little more Bills vs Steelers and how much of a factor they expect the weather to be late Monday afternoon, a Kansas City team that smacked Miami and awaits the Bills if they get past Pittsburgh, Houston shellacking the Cleveland Browns over the weekend and much more.Follow Joe on Twitter @JoeMillerWired and be sure to check out his Overreaction Sports Podcast, and well as his Off Tackle with John Fina and Hump Date Hotline shows on Buffalo Rumblings, available on all major podcasting platforms.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 706Fan Friday: Bills Concerns, Linval Joseph, Buffalo Culture
EIt's another edition of Fan Friday on this episode of Talking Buffalo and host Patrick Moran takes some questions and comments from fans, primarily focused on but not limited to the Buffalo Bills and their wildcard playoff game against Pittsburgh this coming Sunday in Orchard Park.Buffalo is favored over Pittsburgh by double digits as things stand and it appears the biggest obstacle to the Bills playing their best offensively may end up being the weather. Patrick addresses a question about weather concerns as well as the probability that wide receiver Gabe Davis, who's killed Pittsburgh in the past will have to miss the game. He also answered questions revolving around Josh Allen, Linval Joseph and the Miami Dolphins HBO Hard Knocks series that had a Billscentric episode air this week.He also gets a question about the Buffalo Sabres (uhh, who?) and has some fun with TV dad and classic TV comedy submissions.Patrick also has thoughts on Miami linebacker Jerome Baker celebrating an individual play with a tweet and Bills fans locally who are actually threatening to boycott local businesses that host Pittsburgh fan parties this weekend. That and more today.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 705Bills vs Steelers Matchup Playoff Preview and Predictions
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino from Buffalo Rumblings to preview the AFC wildcard round showdown between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday in Orchard Park, complete with talk about both teams, keys to a Buffalo victory and predictions from both. There was so much uncertainty last week when Anthony joined the show to preview the upcoming Miami game on Sunday night, not knowing if the Bills would win the AFC east and subsequently lock up the number two seed, lose to Miami but still sneak into the playoffs or lose and miss the postseason all together. Ultimately the Bills handled their business, especially on the defensive side and a result will enjoy a home game in the first round. The guys spend some time talking about what's been going right for Buffalo before turning their attention to Pittsburgh, who comes into the game double digit underdogs. Of course, Anthony shows far more respect for Buffalo's opponent than Patrick as the guys talk about some of the things Bills fans should be most worried about. One thing they won't be worried about is All-Pro edge rusher T.J. Watt, who'll miss the game for Pittsburgh with a knee injury. They discuss that before transitioning into their three biggest keys to a Buffalo first-round victory and make their game predictions. They also spend some time talking Miami, playoff vibes and much more. Ep 704Biggest Bills Film & Grade Takeaways Plus First Look at Pittsburgh
EOn this solo episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over some of his biggest Buffalo Bills takeaways after watching the film and sifting through PFF grades from their win over Miami on Sunday that sends them riding high into the playoffs in addition to thoughts on the Pittsburgh Steelers among other topics. It certainly wasn't pretty at times but the Bills found a way to win in Miami to capture the AFC east. Patrick goes over several talking points based off the film, including enormous contributions from unexpected players, Josh Allen's crucial run, attacking the Miami weak link repeatedly and key blocks on Deonte Harty's game-swinging punt return touchdown. He also starts to look into Buffalo's wildcard opponent, Pittsburgh and while trying to show them so respect can't help but already start thinking ahead. He also has a few general Bills thoughts as they head into the playoffs and explains why he considers this perhaps the Bills last "easiest opportunity" to come out of the AFC with this current regime. Ep 703What Most Changed For The Buffalo Bills?
EOn this incredibly animated episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by longtime friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks for his weekly visit to discuss some of the biggest factors that led the Buffalo Bills from being a flailing 6-6 team on the cusp of missing the playoffs to wining the AFC east for a fourth straight season and nailing down the two seed going into the playoffs. After the Bills blew a late lead and ultimately lost to Philadelphia in overtime headed into their bye, it felt like any realistic championship aspirations were completely out the window. To make matters worse their marquee defensive end was arrested during the bye period and a sports journalist dropped a scathing series on Bills head coach Sean McDermott. Yet this team rallied and completely turned things around. The guys talk about some of the biggest reasons that led to Buffalo's turnaround, from the embattled head coach seemingly having a shift with in-game management to the team indisputably rallying around him, a defense that rose to elite levels when the games mattered most and the rare quarterback who's talented enough to overcome his many mistakes---the Bills still found a way to win their division and put themselves into great shape as the postseason gets under way.Patrick and Tone also highlight some of the unsung players who really stepped up at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday night, give absolutely zero respect to Buffalo's wild card round opponent Pittsburgh Steelers--to the point Tony's already looking forward to playing Kansas City. Ep 702Bills Beat Miami, Win AFC East (Live Reactions)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran provides some instant live reaction just moments after the Buffalo Bills beat Miami, 21-14 to win the AFC east and secure the number two seed in the playoffs. All season long the headlines have been about the offense, but it was the Buffalo defense that gave the Bills their fourth straight divisional title. Patrick talks about a defense that forced two turnovers for the game and shut Miami out in the second half. Because of that Buffalo will face Pittsburgh next Sunday afternoon in Orchard Park.Josh Allen put up big numbers but stunk at times with bad turnovers. Patrick breaks down his game as well as several "complimentary" players stepping up---especially Khalil Shakir, Trent Sherfield and Dalton Kincaid. He also takes a victory lap on pregame predictions of a Dawson Knox touchdown and Deonte Harty busting a long punt return.Patrick also recounts the afternoon leading up to the Bills game, confessing the unhealthy levels of anxiety he had during the game and how he attempted to combat it, focused around a TV series that's been cancelled for more than three years. That and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 699Bills Film Study & PFF Grades Biggest Takeaways, Week 17
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is offering his thoughts and biggest takeaways after watching the All-22 film and pouring through the PFF grades from the Buffalo Bills six point victory over New England this past weekend before turning his full attention to a quite literally critical showdown with Miami in game No. 272 of the NFL season this Sunday night. Some of Patrick's conclusions and takeaways include it being time for Joe Brady to have Latavius Murray take a seat and find a way to get Khalil Shakir a little more engaged in the passing game as doing so springs good results. He also raves about Gregory Rousseau's great game, Jordan Poyer's performance being a great example of why PFF grades can be really stupid, a few lineup surprises and some flowers tossed the way of Bills punter Sam Martin.Of course all roads lead to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami this Sunday night with the AFC east and numbet two seed on the line---not to mention the realistic possibility of Buffalo missing the playoffs entirely. Patrick's got some thoughts on that and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 698Kicking Off 2024 With Buffalo vs Miami Week
EOn today's Talking Buffalo, the Bills vs Dolphins rivalry adds as huge chapter this week with their regular season finale matchup being for the division and two seed in the playoffs, with the Bills potentially missing the playoffs all together with a loss. Tone Pucks joins to discuss it all.The Bills didn't get a lot of scoreboard help around the league this past Sunday but got what they needed most---Baltimore beating Miami (soundly) to give Buffalo the opportunity to plan not just for the AFC east division this coming Sunday night in Miami, but also for the No. 2 seed. So, the Bills could host potential multiple playoff games or conversely be out of the postseason entirely if they lose and either Jacksonville (vs Tennessee) or Pittsburgh (vs Baltimore) win this weekend. The guys give their thoughts on Buffalo's much closer than it felt like it needed to be victory over the New England Patriots on New Year's Eve. They discuss a Bills offense that's flailing again and Josh Allen being extremely hot or cold all season. They also discuss Von Miller being a healthy inactive for the first time in his career, Terrell Bernard having a wonderful first season as the starting middle linebacker and the unbelievably good play Rasul Douglas has provided since Brandon Beane traded for him. They also take a peak at Miami, who's suddenly getting decimated with injuries. The Bills would have no excuse anyway and even more so as it seems they're playing the Dolphins at the most opportune time. They also essentially refuse to discuss how the Sabres simply can't get any sustaining momentum going, Tone's insistence of talking about a college football game throughout the recording and much more. Ep 697Bills Survive Patriots Live Reactions (First Episode of 2024)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, the very last one of 2023 Patrick Moran provides some instant live reaction just moments after the Buffalo Bills survived their regular season home finale, 27-21 over the New England Patriots that now have them in control of winning the AFC east and the second seed in the conference. The offense was mostly sluggish if not outright bad, but the defense bailed them out in the first half with four turnovers, including a pick six by Rasul Douglas. Patrick has a ton of thoughts on both sides of the ball, what's ailing this team offensively, Von Miller being a healthy scratch, Lamar Jackson locking up MVP while doing the Bills a huge (huge) favor in the process and tons more.We hope that everyone had a fantastic New Year's eve and with the best for an enjoyable, safe and prosperous 2024! Thank you for continuing to watch and/or listen to Talking Buffalo----the growth has been notable over the past year as we near six years of being a podcast, and myself along with all the guests are grateful for you---cheers!♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 696A Smorgasbord of Bills & Sabres Takes (Live from Imperial)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo recorded live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by longtime friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks to drop a full smorgasbord of Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and other topical "hot takes" as we wind down 2023.The Bills are trending in the right direction at the most critical time of the season and the Sabres are unmistakably headed in the opposite direction. Tone has plenty to say about both, from Sean McDermott having a professional and maybe personal turnaround to Ed Oliver taking the reigns on defense and debate over whether Von Miller should even be playing. On the hockey side it's about disappointment with the team and in particular some of the guys that were given big contracts pretty early on. Patrick's nearly out on the Sabres while Tone's willing to see how they do during an extremely winnable long January stretch. They also spend some time discussing Christmas they spent with their families and plenty more. As always, a huge thanks to Imperial Pizza for their great hospitality and killer wings. It should also be noted that the second Imperial location at 1665 Main Street is fully open for business.Follow Tone Pucks on Twitter @TonePucksRedux♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 695Bills vs Patriots Matchup Preview & Predictions
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino from Buffalo Rumblings to preview a Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots game on Sunday that could result in Buffalo clinching a playoff spot by the time Sunday evening hits. After having just a 15% chance of making the playoffs a handful of weeks ago, the Bills are are in great shape after winning three straight and having plenty of scoreboard help around the league. The guys talk about some of the things that have turned Buffalo's season around over the past few weeks before turning their attention to the Patriots. New England stinks and has just four wins this season, but they did beat the Bills already and went on the road last week to knock Denver out of the playoffs for all intents and purposes. Patrick was overconfident with the Bills going into Los Angeles last weekend--will he make the same mistake this week to? Meanwhile, Anthony's usually more guarded when it comes to previewing and forecasting these games, will that change? The guys also spend some time talking about Bills quarterback Josh Allen the person, some of their Christmas highlights they just experienced and much more.Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino and check out Buffalo Rumblings, featuring written and podcast/vidcast content pretty much daily.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 694Ranking Josh Allen in the NFL MVP Race
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is breaking down Josh Allen's credentials and where he would rank the Buffalo Bills QB in the NFL MVP race as the season comes down to the final two weeks. Most people consider six players as frontrunners for the award, including Allen. Patrick goes through each of the six candidates and lists some reasons the MVP vote could for for and against them, After going through the six most likely candidates and given honorable mention to four more Patrick counts down what his ballot would look like from sixth place down to one---with the caveat that the race isn't quite over yet for at least three of the candidates.Shockingly or maybe not shocking, Patrick Mahomes is not one of the six main candidates nor one of four honorable mentions. That and plenty more today.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 693Celebrating A Very Merry Bills Christmas
EIn this Christmas'ish episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran talks about the Buffalo Bills doing what they had to do over the weekend, even if it wasn't pretty and why no fan should be even concerned with style points at this point of the season.Coming off huge victories over Kansas City and Dallas it was expected the Bills would travel to Los Angeles and stomp the Chargers in prime time. That didn't happen as the Chargers gave Buffalo everything they could handle. Patrick talks about some of the elements that made for the perfect trap game and is feeling as good about them overcoming that than if they had won convincingly. He also talks about where the Bills currently stand in regards to the AFC east and wild card playoff races after a favorable Buffalo weekend of scoreboard watching that became even better with a Monday afternoon Kansas City loss, in addition to some of his family Christmas highlights today and much more.We hope everyone had a fantastic and a solid final week of 2023!♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran’s SubstackTwitter: @PatMoranTweets.Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices.
