The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Transactions, Injury Report, Coordinator Comments WR Trade Market, Week 8 Picks & More
October 25, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 43 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare for their Week 8 Monday night home game against the New York Giants. The Steelers have made a few more transactions since our last episode and those included ILB Tyler Matakevich having his 21-day window being opened and WR Andy Isabella being sighed to the practice squad. We address those two moves and go over what we might see happen transaction-wise on Monday afternoon. The Steelers first injury report of Week 8 was released on Thursday, so we make sure to recap it. We also look at the Giants' injury situation heading into Friday's practice. On Thursday, we once again heard from all three of the Steelers' coordinators, Arthur Smith, Teryl Austin, and Danny Smith. As usual, Alex and I recap the few main talking points to come out of those media sessions. The Los Angeles Rams beat the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night and with that win it seems very doubtful that they will be trading WR Cooper Kupp. We discuss that development and then transition into talking about a few remaining trade targets the Steelers might have at the wide receiver position as the annual deadline creeps closer. We give some early thoughts on the Steelers upcoming Monday night game versus the Giants later in this show. Alex and I then give our picks against the spread for all of the Week 8 NFL games. On Monday, we will fully preview the game between the Steelers and the Giants and give our predictions for that contest. This 80-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted and we also answer a few email questions we received from listeners since Wednesday. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Jets All-22, Tomlin Tuesday, Transactions, Injuries, Cooper Kupp & More
October 23, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 42 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the latest transactions made by the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of their first practice of Week 8. We also discuss the health of the Steelers stemming from what HC Mike Tomlin said during his Tuesday press conference. Tomlin's Tuesday press conference provided quite a few talking points for Alex and me to discuss. We talk about his thoughts on QB Rusell Wilson versus the Jets, the challenge C Ryan McCollum faces in Week 8, the status of WR Roman Wilson, the play of T Broderick Jones on Sunday night, and much more. Tomlin also gave his thoughts on the effectiveness of play-action against the Jets, so Alex and I go over those comments and how it all looked on tape. Alex and I then transition into going over what we both learned from the all-22 tape from the Steelers Sunday night game against the Jets. We start on the offensive side of the football and then move over to the defense. We discuss several plays, schematics, and the play of several individual players during this segment. Alex and I look at where optimism should be concerning the 5-2 Steelers when it comes to the team not only possibly making the playoffs but winning a game in the tournament as well. Another wide receiver trade happened in the NFL on Wednesday morning as the Tennessee Titans dealt WR DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs. We discuss that deal, in addition to it sounding like the Los Angeles Rams might be willing to part ways with WR Cooper Kupp ahead of the trade deadline. We look at Kupp's contract, what the Rams seem to want as trade compensation, and the chances of the Steelers ultimately being able to acquire him. This 109-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Oct. 22 – Ep. 30: On this episode of The Depot Dive, Joe Clark and Ross McCorkle begin by recapping the exciting 37-15 blowout victory over the New York Jets. We talk about Russell Wilson's debut and what he was able to do for the offense that should see him keeping hold of the starting gig for the foreseeable future. We also talk about several other aspects of the game including Najee Harris' performance and Beanie Bishop Jr.'s big day. For the second topic, we dive into the injury news out of Mike Tomlin's Tuesday press conference. Montravius Adams was added to IR, but Tyler Matakevich and Cordarrelle Patterson are getting close to returning. We also talk about cornerback depth and more. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Jets, Mike Tomlin QB Decision, Inactives, Injuries, Listener Emails & More
October 21, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 41 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the New York Jets at home Sunday night to improve to 5-2 on the 2024 season. We go over the pregame inactive list from Sunday early in this show and discuss how that played out wasn't very surprising. We also discuss the few roster moves that the team made on Saturday. A lot was made on Sunday morning about Steelers HC Mike Tomlin going "Lone Ranger" this week when it came to his decision to start veteran QB Russell Wilson over QB Justin Fields so we discuss all of that build up to the game. We discuss the play of Wilson Sunday night from his slow start to him playing better as the game went on. We talk about several throws he made, the use and effectiveness of play-action, his overall control of the offense, how he spread the football around, and more. We discuss how Wilson's Sunday showing, while great in totality, also showed room for him to play even better moving forward. Wilson seemingly had the crowd against him early Sunday night, so we talk about the fortitude he showed to push through all of that. After talking quite a bit about Wilson’s play Sunday night, Alex and I discuss several other players that made huge contributions in the win over the Jets. That list obviously includes WR George Pickens, RB Najee Harris, TE Darnell Washington TE Pat Freiermuth and of course several members of the offensive line. We discuss a few significant offensive plays that occurred during the game and go over several very relevant stats related to the victory. After talking about the offensive play from Sunday night, Alex and I address the overall play of the defense against the Jets. We discuss the tackling issues early on, the pressure amounts, the lack of overall true blitzing, and much more. We discuss the stellar play of rookie CB Beanie Bishop Jr. Sunday night that included him having two huge interceptions. We also discuss several key bat-downs in the game, the play of OLB Alex Highsmith and S DeShon Elliott and a few others as well. After talking about the defense, Alex and I of course address the great special teams play the Steelers had Sunday night against the Jets. We talk about the penalty on the extra point block, the punting and how excited that unit was for coordinator Danny Smith after the late field goal block. This 88-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. October 18, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 40 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare for their Week 7 Sunday night home game against the New York Jets. We go over the Steelers' Thursday injury report and how important Friday will be for a few players, including rookie WR Roman Wilson and S Damontae Kazee. We go over possible elevations from the team's practice squad on Saturday and what the early Sunday inactive list is looking like heading into Friday. The Steelers have yet to announce their starting quarterback for the Sunday game against the Jets and we wonder if HC Mike Tomlin will do so on Friday after practice. We also talk about the press conference that QB Justin Fields had on Thursday and how we think he handled it with it looking like he might lose the starting job this weekend. On Thursday, we once again heard from two of the Steelers' coordinators, Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin. As usual, Alex and I recap the few main talking points to come out of those media sessions. We discuss how Smith certainly sounded like he is more in the corner of sticking with Fields at quarterback than turning to veteran QB Russell Wilson. While Austin didn't say a whole lot, we go over his comments made about CB Joey Porter Jr. as well as him possibly blitzing more on defense. Alex and I welcome Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic to the show, and he helps us get started with a preview of the Steelers' home game against the Jets. Rosenblatt has covered the Jets for some time and that means he has a great pulse on the team. We go over the Jets' addition of WR Davante Adams, whether WR Mike Williams is now likely to be traded soon, and why the Jets enter Sunday's game against the Steelers with just a 2-4 record. We go over New York's injury situation heading into Sunday night and what the visiting team's plan of attack on both sides of the football should be. At the end of our talk with Zack, he gives us his score prediction for the Steelers-Jets game. If not already doing so, make sure to follow Zack on X/Twitter at @ZackBlatt and make sure to read his work online here: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/author/zack-rosenblatt/ After finishing with Zack, Alex and I provide our own preview of the Steelers-Jets game. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the latest transactions made by the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of their first practice of Week 7 getting underway. We also discuss the health of the Steelers stemming from what HC Mike Tomlin said during his Tuesday press conference. With Tomlin certainly making sound like there’s a good chance that QB Russell Wilson will start on Sunday night against the New York Jets, Alex and I parse everything he had to say on Tuesday. We go over why we think Tomlin will potentially start Wilson over QB Justin Fields and if we think it is the right decision if that ultimately is the case. We discuss the fears and concerns most fans seem to have when it comes to Wilson getting the nod over Fields. After looking at all angles related to a possible switch at quarterback this week, Alex and I discuss the Las Vegas Raiders trading WR Davante Adams to the Jets on Tuesday. We also discuss the Cleveland Browns trading WR Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday. We then look at other wide receivers that the Steelers could potentially trade for ahead of the deadline. We also give our thoughts on whether indeed the Steelers will ultimately trade for a wide receiver. With the all-22 tape from the Steelers Week 6 road game against the Raiders now fully digested, Alex and I give more of our takeaways that stuck out from that win on both sides of the football. This 103-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Raiders, QB1 Decision For Week 7, Inactives, Injuries, Listener Emails & More
October 14, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 38 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the Las Vegas Raiders on the road Sunday afternoon to improve to 4-2 on the 2024 season. We go over the pregame inactive list from Sunday early in this show and discuss how that played out wasnt very surprising. We also discuss the few roster moves that the team made on Saturday. While the Steelers did beat the Raiders in convincing fashion on Sunday, Alex and I do wonder how the starting quarterback situation will now play out for the team's Week 7 Sunday night home game against the New York Jets. Was QB Justin Fields close to getting benched at halftime against the Raiders on Sunday? How did he play overall Sunday night? With QB Russell Wilson now healthy, there are certainly arguments to be made that he should be the starting quarterback against the Jets. Alex and I go over the good and bad from Fields on Sunday versus the Raiders. We also talk about the play of the Steelers offense as a whole and how RB Najee Harris had a great showing in the win. We discuss offensive line play from Sunday's win, C Zach Frazier getting injured, a few snap counts on that side of the football, and much more. After thoroughly discussing the Steelers offense and quarterback situation, Alex and I finally get to breaking down how the defense played against the Raiders. We go over the disappointing start the unit had against the Raiders offense and that side of the football rebounded from it. We talk about the unique sequence of plays late in the third quarter that the Raiders offense had, the huge play made by S DeShon Elliott and obviously the two forced fumbles that OLB T.J. Watt had on Sunday. The Steelers made some plays on special teams against the Raiders, so we make sure to recap that third phase of their units later in this show as well. October 11, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 37 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare for their Week 6 Sunday afternoon road game against the Las Vegas Raiders. We go over the Steelers' Thursday injury report and how important Friday will be for a few players and that includes RB Jaylen Warren and QB Russell Wilson. We go over possible elevations from the team's practice squad on Saturday and what the early Sunday inactive list is looking like heading into Friday. As has been the case for several weeks now, we discuss once again if Sunday afternoon rookie WR Roman Wilson will finally make his NFL debut. On Thursday, we once again heard from two of the Steelers' coordinators, Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin. As usual, Alex and I recap the few main talking points to come out of those media sessions. We continue to discuss how the team has limited the snaps of WR George Pickens this season, what Austin said about blitzing more with the edge unit down a few players, and also what he had to say about ILB Patrick Queen and rookie CB Beanie Bishop Jr. Pickens met the media on Thursday for a short question and answer and so Alex and I discuss that. We go over how Pickens handled that session and much more. We also discuss the possibility of Pickens playing a few more snaps on Sunday against the Raiders and how we won't be surprised if he has a productive game coming off a week where he was very much under the media microscope. Alex and I welcome Vinny Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal back to the show on Friday, and he helps us get started with a preview of the Steelers' road game against the Raiders. Bonsignore has covered the Cowboys for quite some time and that means he has a great pulse on the team. We go over the status of Raiders WR Davante Adams, who is likely to be traded soon, the Las Vegas injury situation heading into Sunday afternoon and what the home-team's plan of attack on both sides of the football should be. Ep 28The Depot Dive - Episode 28 - October 10, 2024
Oct. 10 – Ep. 28: Before we get into this episode of The Depot Dive, a little house keeping for the show. We are moving to Tuesday afternoons for now to see if that flows better. We hope you will join us then! On this episode Joe Clark and Ross McCorkle start off by having an in-depth conversation about George Pickens. Several things that went down on Sunday haven't sat right with us, so we talk about all of that and the repercussions. Is he a ticking time bomb for this team? Can you even think about giving him a second contract? We debate all of this and more. We then discuss the quarterback controversy brewing in Pittsburgh and talk about whether we would like to see Russell Wilson start a game now that he is fully healthy. Has Justin Fields done enough to hold on? Would Wilson really elevate the offense enough to be worth the change? Could the Steelers benefit from Wilson's veteran leadership? For the third topic, we put a bow on Week 5 and discuss other odds and ends from the Pittsburgh Steelers' loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Is the defense a big concern? Why can't the Steelers run the ball against bad defenses? We talk about all of this and more. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Week 5 All-22 Recap, Injuries, Tomlin Tuesday, George Pickens Discussion & More
October 9, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 36 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the lengthy list of injured players that the Pittsburgh Steelers are dealing with entering Week 6 of the 2024 regular season. With seven total players looking very unlikely to play on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, Alex and I look at some transactions that might be coming by Saturday afternoon and how the defense is likely to manage personnel at the outside linebacker positions on Sunday. It sounds like QB Russell Wilson has a chance to practice fully three days in a row this week so we discuss what that might ultimately mean come Sunday's game. We both think that QB Justin Fields will start again on Sunday with Wilson potentially having a chance to be his backup against the Raiders. We go over what it would take to see Wilson come off the bench on Sunday to replace Fields should the former ultimately be active as the backup. Tomlin hit on a few other minor topics on Tuesday that Alex and I discuss as talking points before getting into all that he had to say about WR George Pickens. With the usage, effort and behavior of Pickens being in extra focus this week, Alex and I have a long discussion about each of those individual topics. We go over the data related to his snap management, we break down his effort on several plays on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, and even talk a little about some of his behavior both on the field and on the sidelines. We discuss what Tomlin had to say about Pickens on Tuesday and if we believe every ounce of it. Should Pickens have a higher snap count in heavy personnel groupings than he has had to date? Should the onus be to get Pickens the football earlier in games? We address those two questions during our long conversation about the Steelers wide receiver. Now that Alex and I have gone through the All-22 tape from the Steelers' Week 5 home loss against the Cowboys, we give additional observations we both had when it comes to the offensive, defensive, and special teams play in that contest. We talk about the We go over several individual plays and player performances as part of us recapping the All-22 tape. We spend extra time once again discussing the play of Fields on offense and ILB Patrick Queen on defense. We also once again discuss the run attempts by RB Najee Harris and the blocking on those plays as well as the overall play of the offensive line. We go over the Steelers' offensive woes on first downs, the lack of explosive plays and the heavy usage of zone on the defensive side of the football. This 117-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Cowboys Recap, Inactives, Injuries, Listener Emails & More
October 7, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 35 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers losing to the Dallas Cowboys at home Sunday night to move to 3-2 on the 2024 season. While the Steelers were just one play at the end of the Sunday night game from notching their fourth win, we wonder what the rest of the talk would have been on this Monday about the entire contest had they actually escaped with the victory. Alex and I get right after it and get heavy into our breakdown of the Steelers' 20-17 home loss to the Cowboys. We start on the offensive side of the football for the Steelers and discuss their game plan, the play of QB Justin Fields, big and negative plays, the play of the offensive line, and much more. We talk about lack of explosive plays, the limited snap counts of WR George Pickens and what HC Mike Tomlin said about that after the game. We also talk about Fields being asked to explain the identity of the offense after the game. Will the Steelers switch from Fields to QB Russell Wilson as the team's starter? We go over why we would listen to an argument for Wilson to start but wonder if anyone could really make a strong and compelling one based on several factors. After thoroughly breaking down the offense, Alex and I move on to do the same with the defense. We go over how that unit really let the team down again against the Cowboys and specifically on third downs in weighty moments. We also talk about continued miscommunications on defense, the play of outside linebackers T.J. Watt and Nick Herbig, the three takeaways and much more on that side of the football. We also talk about a few things related to special teams from the Sunday night game against the Cowboys and go over the pregame inactive list, the Saturday elevations from the practice squad, and the list of injured players coming out of the loss. We also go over the latest news concerning Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams when it comes to him potentially being traded soon. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Week 4 All-22 Recap, Transactions, Tomlin Tuesday, Davante Adams & More
October 2, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 33 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the several transactions made by the Pittsburgh Steelers since their Week 4 game. There are a lot to go over when it comes to these moves and we break down what several of them might indicate. We go over several injuries the team is dealing with right now as we await the Steelers first injury report of Week 5. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin held his weekly press conference on Tuesday, so Alex and I make sure to recap all of the main talking points that came out of that session. We go over what Tomlin said about QB Russell Wilson on Tuesday and what the initial practice plan for him this week appears to be. Will and should Wilson be the backup quarterback on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys if he can practice fully at least twice this week? Alex and I make sure to discuss that topic during this show. The Las Vegas Raiders appear set to trade WR Davante Adams as of Tuesday and with the Steelers potentially being a team looking to make a deal for him, Alex and I discuss all aspects of that topic. We go over the plausibility of the Steelers trading for Adams, what the compensation might need to be, and what an adjusted contract for the wide receiver might look like should the team ultimately acquire him. Now that Alex and I have gone through the All-22 tape from the Steelers' Week 4 road loss against the Indianapolis Colts, we give our thoughts on additional observations we both had when it comes to the offensive, defensive, and special teams play in that contest. We go over several individual plays and player performances as part of us recapping the All-22 tape. We spend extra time discussing the play of QB Justin Fields on offense, ILB Patrick Queen on defense. We also discuss the run attempts by RB Najee Harris and the blocking on those plays. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Colts Game Recap, Inactives, Injuries, Listener Emails & More
September 30, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 32 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers losing to the Indianapolis Colts on the road on Sunday to move to 3-1 on the 2024 season. News broke early Monday morning that Steelers G James Daniels will be lost for the season after sustaining a torn Achilles during the Sunday game against the Colts so we recap that injury and the impact it might have moving forward. We discuss whether the team might consider flipping Isaac Seumalo over to right guard if he is able to return from his pectoral injury this week so that rookie G Mason McCormick can stay at his more natural position of left guard. We go over the Sunday pregame inactive list and discuss the few healthy scratches the team had following their two elevations from the practice squad on Saturday. We also discuss the other few injuries the Steelers sustained during their Sunday loss to the Colts. After getting all of the housekeeping out the way early in this show, Alex and I get heavy into our breakdown of the Steelers' 27-24 road loss to the Colts. We start on the offensive side of the football for the Steelers and discuss the game plan, the play of QB Justin Fields, big and negative plays, the play of the offensive line, and much more. We talk about how we both still feel that Fields should keep the QB1 job moving forward and how it is his to lose in our opinion. Extra observations about Fields are made about the few key negative plays that Fields was in the middle of on Sunday and how both played a key part in the team's loss. We discuss a few key personnel choices the Steelers made during Sunday's game on offense and how RB Cordarrelle Patterson sparked a slow-starting running game until he left with an injury. We make sure to hit on the play of WR George Pickens on Sunday and that includes his red zone fumble. After thoroughly breaking down the offense, Alex and I move on to do the same with the defense. We go over how that unit really let the team down on Sunday against the Colts and specifically on third downs in weighty moments. We also talk about the three chances the defense had to take the football away from the Colts offense that the unit failed on. Veteran QB Joe Flacco shredded the Steelers defense in the passing game on Sunday after he replaced injured starting QB Anthony Richardson. We discuss how Flacco did that and the big part that WR Josh Downs played in that. We quickly go over the two touchdown passes that Flacco threw on Sunday, both of which came on third downs. Steelers S Minkah Fitzpatrick was on the wrong end of an unnecessary roughness penalty in a key moment of Sunday's game, so we make sure to voice our opinion on that flag. We also talk about a few things related to special teams from the Sunday game against the Colts and go over a few dubious coaching decisions that Steelers HC Mike Tomlin on Sunday when it came to timeout usage and challenge situations. This 85-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Might rookie WR Roman Wilson not make his NFL debut on Sunday? We discuss that topic. On Thursday, we once again heard from two of the Steelers' coordinators, Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin. As usual, Alex and I recap the few main talking points top come out of those media sessions. We go over why Sunday is a big game for OLB Nick Herbig and if he might see his special teams snaps reduced a little against the Colts with him needing to play a larger number of snaps on defense with OLB Alex Highsmith sidelined with his groin injury. Can the Steelers get their running game going earlier on Sunday against the Colts? What about QB Justin Fields being used more on the ground as well? We address those two key questions ahead of Sunday's game against the Colts.
