The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers' Free Agent List, Possible Cuts, Mike Tomlin Report, Staff Decisions & More

January 13, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 78 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right back to discussing Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin on the heels of the team being eliminated from the playoffs by the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night. We talk about the reports beginning to surface since Saturday night concerning the Steelers planning on sticking with Tomlin as the team's head coach. We discuss how that's not shocking. We also discuss whether this could now be the beginning of the end for Tomlin in Pittsburgh. Will the Steelers make any changes to their coaching staff this offseason? Alex and I go over the coaches who could be out in the coming weeks and why. Should the Steelers consider changing a few long-standing precedents that they in place? Alex and I go over a short list of those precedents that I came up with. Moving past talking more about Tomlin, Alex and I go over the list of Steelers players that are scheduled to become free agents this coming offseason. We go through the list player by player. Alex and I also discuss several players currently under contract for the 2025 season that might have their deals terminated by the start of the new league year in March. What are some of the biggest needs the Steelers have heading into draft season? Alex and I wonder if another defensive lineman might possibly be in play in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. We also quickly pass along the news that the Steelers are now scheduled to select 21st in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft as of Sunday night. Later in this show, Alex finally get to several of the emails that listeners have sent to us since the Steelers loss to the Ravens. This 127-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Ravens Wild Card Game Loss, Annual Mike Tomlin Discourse & More

January 12, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 77 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Sunday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Saturday night AFC Wild Card game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens that resulted in the former being eliminated from the playoffs. Alex and I discuss the transactions the Steelers made prior to Saturdays game and how the inactive list ultimately played out and why. Alex and I do not go deep into our analysis of the Saturday loss as the all-22 tape has yet to surface. The loss, however, is not hard to dissect just at the surface level based only on the live viewing. With the Steelers being one-and-done again in the playoffs, the annual early offseason discourse when it comes to HC Mike Tomlin must be addressed by us. Alex and I have a long conservation about whether the Steelers should highly consider moving on from Tomlin and possibly reshaping the front office as well. We talk a lot about the culture of the Steelers under Tomlin, the organization’s way of going about business and more. We discuss where we both thought the Steelers 2024 season would look like back in September and how close it came to our predictions. Did the Steelers actually overachieve in 2024? Alex and I discuss that topic. Assuming Tomlin and GM Omar Khan remain employed, and there’s no reason to think otherwise, what changes should be made to the coaching staff? We address that topic. The Steelers must address their quarterback situation early in the offseason before doing anything else and Alex and I address that topic. We also talk about whether we think the Steelers will spend heavily on defense during the offseason. This Sunday episode of the podcast is one huge gripe session overall as we get ready to move on into standard offseason mode. We fail to address any questions from listeners in this show but plan on hitting several during the Monday episode. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Ravens Wild Card Game Preview, Injury Reports, Transactions, Picks & More

January 10, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 76 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex and Kozora and I get right into discussing the upcoming Saturday night AFC Wild Card game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers Thursday injury report is reviewed early in this show, so Alex and I discuss that and the team's decision to waive WR Scotty Miller ahead of their playoff game. We discuss why Miller was likely waived and what it likely means when it comes to the Saturday night pregame inactive list. The Ravens will be without WR Zay Flowers Saturday night, so we discuss the magnitude of Baltimore not having him against the Steelers. The Steelers will have a few tough decisions when it comes to their Saturday night inactive list and especially the final two spots. We discuss a few possibilities. Will and should QB Justin Fields see some playing time on Saturday night against the Ravens? What about CB Cory Trice Jr. and WR Mike Williams as well? Alex and I address the possibility of such happening for those three players during this show. We go over the pressure that Steelers HC Mike Tomlin has on him to beat the Ravens on Saturday night. We also discuss the pressure on Ravens QB Lamar Jackson ahead of this playoff game. Alex and I get deep into breaking down and previewing the Steelers Wild Card game against the Ravens and that’s easy to do on the heels of the two teams already having played twice during the regular season. We discuss both of the teams on offense and defense and what the Steelers likely must do Saturday night to win in Baltimore and advance in the playoffs. Will Saturday night's game be the last one for several soon-to-be unrestricted free agents on the Steelers? We go over the lengthy list of players that discussion applies to. Later in this show, Alex and I make our picks against the spread for the Wild Card round of the playoffs. We also predict the final score of the Steelers playoff game against the Ravens, This 96-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. January 7, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 75 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Tuesday morning episode, Josh Carney sits in for a sick Alex Kozora, and we get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers coming off their Saturday loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. We also go over the Steelers now being set to play the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night in the Wild Card round of the 2024 NFL playoffs. The Steelers have a few dinged up players heading into this week, so we go over the known current statuses of G Mason McCormick (hand) and CB Donte Jackson (back). We discuss the Steelers possibly needing to make a transaction later this week should McCormick be unable to play against the Ravens on Saturday night. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin held his weekly press conference on Monday so that gives us a lot to go over. Josh and I discuss several things Tomlin said on Monday related to WR Mike Williams, QB Justin Fields, WR George Pickens, and much more. Josh and throw around some stats related to Steelers WR Van Jefferson as it relates to his playing time and production this season. Steelers OC Arthur Smith is set to interview for a few open head coaching jobs, so we go over that news and the likelihood that he leaves Pittsburgh after just one season. Josh and I move on to discuss what the all-22 from the Steelers Week 18 loss to the Bengals showed us on both sides of the football. We also discuss what a tall task the Steelers have ahead of them when it comes to their Saturday night playoff game against the Ravens. Josh and I discuss the Steelers quarterback situation quite a bit during this show. Most of that discussion revolves around the position for the 2025 season. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Bengals Recap, Inactives, Injuries, Playoff Outlook & More

January 5, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 74 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Sunday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers' Saturday night home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals that resulted in the team limping into the playoffs with a four-game losing streak. We start this show by going over how the loss to the Bengals was actually a winnable game on the final drive and how the Steelers' offense blew that opportunity. Alex and I go over the inactive list from the Saturday night game that included Steelers CB Donte Jackson missing the contest with his back injury. We discuss two defensive linemen being healthy scratches for the game so that OLB Preston Smith could get a helmet. We also quickly go over the few injuries the Steelers had during the Saturday night loss. Alex and I go over several key stats from the Steelers' Saturday night loss to the Bengals and a few stats related to the history of the franchise as a result of the team losing their final four games. As usual, Alex and I start breaking down the game and we start on the offensive side of the football. We discuss the failures in short-yardage situations, the play of QB Russell Wilson, the poor game that WR George Pickens played and much more. We spend a lot of time talking about the Steelers' final offensive possession of the game as well. After a long discussion about the play of the Steelers' offense against the Bengals, Alex and I then go over the play from the team's defense. We discuss positive performances, a few negative ones, and how CB Cory Trice Jr. played in his extended action as a starter. We make sure to highlight what a great game DT Cameron Heyward had against the Bengals and how OLB T.J. Watt failed to crack the official stat sheet. Alex and I make sure to quickly hit on the play of the Steelers' special team units on Saturday night and how that phase of the game could have been much better. The Steelers will now face either the Baltimore Ravens or the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, so we quickly go over the well-known scenarios related to their potential opponent next week. Alex and I chose not to hit listener emails in this show because we will be back on Monday with another episode to cover those. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. The Terrible Podcast — Steelers Vs. Bengals Preview, Injury Report, Transactions, Coordinator Comments & More

January 3, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 73 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare to play the visiting Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday night at Acrisure Stadium, There is quite a bit of housekeeping to get to early in the show concerning the team's Week 18 injury report and transactions the team made a few days ago. We discuss the 21-day windows being opened on WR Roman Wilson, DL Logan Lee, and ILB Cole Holcomb and all three players might not make it back to the active 53-man roster before the team's season ends. CB Donte Jackson (back) enters the weekend listed as questionable so we discuss his current situation and how it could impact the Saturday night inactive list for the Steelers. We also go over the Bengals’ injury report heading into the weekend and specifically, a few players listed on it. We move on to discuss the four Steelers players voted to the Pro Bowl Games this year and the deservingness of each. We also discuss OLB T.J. Watt being voted the team's MVP for the 2024 season. We also go over C Zach Frazier being voted the team's top rookie of 2024 and OLB Alex Highsmith being the winner of the annual Chief Award. Steelers coordinators Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin both held their weekly media sessions a few days ago, so Alex and I parse the meaningful things that each had to say during his session. With the Saturday night game against the Bengals now on tap, Alex and I give our full preview of that contest. We address both sides of the football for each team and what the Steelers likely need to do Saturday night to close out their 2024 regular season with a win. Later in this show, Alex and I give our picks for all of the Week 18 NFL games, and that obviously includes our final score predictions for the Steelers' game against the Bengals. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers' Week 18 Health Outlook, Tomlin Monday, QB Valuations, George Pickens & More

December 31, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 72 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Tuesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Saturday NFL scheduling for Week 18 and how all four AFC North teams are playing. Did Hard Knocks perhaps play a role in that happening? Is it good that the Baltimore Ravens play their game earlier than the Steelers? There's a lot of talk that the Steelers could or should rest some starters Saturday night should the Ravens win their afternoon game. We are convinced that HC Mike Tomlin won't even consider doing that as the team needs to get back on the right track prior to the playoffs getting underway. The Steelers seem poised to be a healthy team heading into their Saturday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals based on what Tomlin said during his Monday press conference. Alex and I do wonder who the fifth inactive player for Saturday night will be. Is there a tiny chance that player winds up being Cory Trice Jr.? Tomlin's Monday press conference game us several other items to parse during this show so we go through them all. We discuss what Tomlin had to say about the interception thrown by QB Russell Wilson against the Kansas City Chiefs last Wednesday as it relates to WR George Pickens. Alex and I get into talking a little about the offseason valuations of Wilson and QB Justin Fields. We go over the plausibility and probability of the Steelers re-signing both Wilson and Fields during the offseason. We also go over what the free agent quarterback market is shaping up to look like. What were the top storylines for the Steelers for the 2024 calendar year? Alex presents his list as subject matter for a discussion. What will be the main storylines headed into 2025? We go over his list related to that as well. What will happen with Pickens during the offseason and should trading him prior to the 2025 NFL Draft even be a plausible discussion? We talk that those questions later in this show. This 85-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. We discuss the few remaining seeding scenarios for the Pittsburgh Steelers entering the final week of the 2024 regular season. Additionally, we attempt to predict when the Steelers' Week 18 game against the Cincinnati Bengals will be played. The Steelers seem poised to play a game in Ireland in 2025 as a home team, so we go over that latest report in addition to going over likely opponents for that contest. We also discuss the development and play of the Steelers' offensive line so far this season. December 26, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 70 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Thursday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers' Wednesday home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and where the team sits currently in the AFC playoff picture. Wednesday's game, on the heels of the Steelers' previous two games, was certainly very depressing and we hit on that early in this show and how the same problems keep showing up these last several weeks. Alex and I go over the pregame inactive list from Wednesday and discuss the decision that was made to sit OLB Preston Smith. We also discuss DT Cameron Heyward getting dinged up with a minor injury during Wednesday’s loss. With the housekeeping out of the way, Alex and I dive into breaking down the Wednesday loss to the Chiefs. We start on the defensive side of the football and discuss the blown coverages, miscommunication, big plays in the game and much more. As part of that, we discuss what several Steelers' defensive players had to say after the game and most notably what S DeShon Elliott said. After tearing through the defensive play from Wednesday, Alex and I move over to the offensive side of the football. We discuss the early interception that QB Russell Wilson threw. We also talk about several key plays from the loss and certain play calls from that contest. We also talk about the running back rotation used, the play of the offensive line, the five sacks allowed and other key aspects from the offensive play. A little bit of special teams play from Wednesday is also discussed in this show. The Steelers seem poised to face the Houston Texans in a Wild Card game if they can beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 18. The Terrible Podcast — Steelers Vs. Chiefs Preview, Ravens All-22 Notes, Injury Report, Coordinator Comments & More

December 24, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 69 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Tuesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare to play the Kanas City Chiefs Wednesday at home on Christmas Day. We go over the Steelers' Monday injury report and highlight the fact that it is looking good that the team will have at least four players that missed the Week 16 game due to injuries back for the Wednesday contest against the Chiefs. We also go over the injury report from the Chiefs and how there’s a chance that DT Chris Jones might sit out Wednesday’s game in Pittsburgh. Steelers coordinators Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin both held their weekly media sessions on Monday, so Alex and I parse the meaningful things that each had to see during his session. After flying through the all-22 tape from the Steelers' Week 16 road loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Alex and I give our observations and recaps of what stood out from that defeat on both sides of the football. Former Steelers WR Diontae Johnson has a new home as of Monday as the Houston Texans claimed him off waivers from the Ravens. We discuss him landing with the Texans and the news that the Steelers did not submit a waiver claim for him. Alex and I then proceed to give our full breakdown and preview of the Steelers' home game against the Chiefs. We go over what we have observed on tape from the Chiefs on both sides of the football. We go over several key stats concerning the Chiefs and how they have managed to compile a 14-1 record to date. In this Sunday night episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers' Saturday road loss to the Baltimore Ravens and where the team sits in the AFC playoff picture. We go over the Saturday inactive list the Steelers turned in and how it included all five players on the injury report. We go over it being a very minor surprise that DT Larry Ogunjobi and CB Donte Jackson did not suit up Saturday and how it resulted in CB Cory Trice Jr. being active. The Steelers sustained injuries to CB Joey Porter Jr. and WR Ben Skowronek in Saturday’s loss, so we discuss what HC Mike Tomlin said about the statuses of those two players on Sunday in addition to him being hopefully to get some injured players back for the Christmas Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Alex and I discuss several other things that Tomlin said during his postgame press conference as well as his Sunday afternoon press conference. We go over what Tomlin had to say about the team possibly having interest in recently waived WR Diontae Johnson. We also give our thoughts on whether there’s a chance Johnson winds up back with the Steelers. After all the housekeeping is out of the way, Alex and I dive deep into recapping the Steelers' Saturday loss to the Ravens. We focus our early talk on the play of the Steelers' defense. We go over the three touchdowns allowed by the defense, the inability to stop Ravens RB Derrick Henry and much more. We discuss the positive play we saw out of a few defensive players on Saturday. After fully dissecting the defense, Alex and I focus on breaking down the play of the Steelers' offense on Saturday. We talk quite a bit about the two turnovers by QB Russell Wilson. We spend a lot of time going over Wilson's fumble. Additionally, we go over the play of Wilson outside of his two turnovers. Alex and I discuss WR Calvin Austin III stepping his game up of late. We also discuss a few play calls from the loss to the Ravens and that includes the deep fourth down pass to start the fourth quarter. We discuss the playing time of RB Jaylen Warren, the running game overall, and much more concerning the offense. Alex and I make sure to talk a little about special teams play from Saturday and several key moments from the loss to the Ravens. This 131-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. December 20, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 67 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare to play the Baltimore Ravens Saturday on the road. We go over the Steelers' Thursday injury report and highlight the fact that the team will not have WR George Pickens on Saturday against the Ravens. We also discuss S DeShon Elliott being doubtful for Saturday’s game and OLB T.J. Watt seemingly being ready to play against the Ravens. Will Watt be on any sort of snap count on Saturday in Baltimore and will the Steelers at least have CB Donte Jackson for this contest? We attempt to answer those questions and also look at what the Saturday inactive list is shaping up to be. The Ravens are also dealing with key injuries at the wide receiver position ahead of Saturday's game, so we go over that topic early in this show as well. Will WR Rashod Bateman play through his foot injury? Will he be impactful even if he does? We discuss his situation ahead of Saturday's game in Baltimore. Steelers coordinators Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin both held their weekly media sessions on Wednesday, so Alex and I parse the meaningful things that each had to see during his session. Alex and I proceed to give our full breakdown and preview of the Steelers' road game against the Ravens. We go over what we have observed in the last few weeks from the Ravens, what the Steelers must do on both sides of the football to win, and much more. Later in this show, Alex and I give our picks for all of the Week 16 NFL games against the spread. This segment also includes our final score predictions for the Steelers' game against the Ravens. The Terrible Podcast — Steelers Hard Knocks Episode Recap, Tuesday Injury Report, All-22 Vs. Eagles, & More

December 18, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 66 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they start preparing to play the Baltimore Ravens on the road Saturday. With their first official injury report out for the Steelers on Tuesday, Alex and I go over it as we look ahead to which players may or may not play on Saturday against the Ravens. We also go over the recent transactions made by the Steelers on Tuesday as well. A few players comments from both the Ravens and the Steelers are covered early in this show. We discuss how big of a game this upcoming one is for the Ravens and how the Steelers can still win the AFC North should they lose on Saturday in Baltimore. The third episode of AFC North Hard Knocks dropped on Tuesday night so Alex and I make sure to recap all of the notable things to come out of that. We discuss several segments that QB Russell Wilson and HC Mike Tomlin were in. With the all-22 tape from the Steelers' Week 15 road loss to the Philadelphia Eagles now fully digested, Alex and I give our extended thoughts from that game when it comes to offensive and defensive play. We discuss the offensive attack by the Steelers, the scheming of the defense, a few key third downs allowed and a few other significant plays from that contest. The Atlanta Falcons made an interesting decision at the quarterback position on Tuesday, so Alex and I discuss that for a bit. We go over what is likely to happen with veteran QB Kirk Cousins and how we don't see him being a good option for the Steelers if they need to find an option other than Wilson or QB Justin Fields. Should the NFL expand to an 18-game season and add to the number of teams that make playoffs? Would fans be in favor of that? We discuss that topic briefly later in this show. This 84-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. The Terrible Podcast — Steelers Vs. Eagles Recap, Injury Updates, Tomlin Monday, Listener Emails & More

December 16, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 65 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers' Sunday afternoon road loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and how the team managed to secure a playoff spot despite that. The Steelers sustained a few injuries during their loss to the Eagles with the primary one being to OLB T.J. Watt. We go over the latest updates on his health and the outlook for him potentially playing on Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens. We also go over the other five players dealing with injuries that HC Mike Tomlin talked about during his weekly press conference that took place on Monday. We go over a few other talking points from the Tomlin press conferences from Sunday evening and Monday afternoon. Alex and I then dive deep into breaking down the Steelers Sunday loss to the Eagles. There is a ton to go over when it comes to the offensive and defensive play from Sunday, most of which was bad. We discuss how the Eagles offense decided to attack the Steelers defense and how RB Saquon Barkley didn’t impact the game as much as most thought he would. That came at a cost, however, and we break that down. The Steelers offensive scheme and game plan was quite flawed on Sunday, so we go over that. We also go over the lack of possession time from the Steelers offense and how the unit only managed to get 3 points off of two turnovers. Seemingly bad penalty calls went against the Steelers on Sunday so Alex and I go over those and the impact, or lack thereof, they may have had on the overall outcome of the contest. We also discuss some Tomlin decisions made on Sunday, with one of those being related to a timeout not taken. Several snap counts and stats from Sunday are covered in this episode along with us slowly looking ahead to the Week 16 Saturday game against the Ravens with some worry. This 90-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare to play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday on the road. We go over the Steelers' Thursday injury report and highlight the fact that the team might not have S DeShon Elliott and DT Larry Ogunjobi on Sunday in addition to being without WR George Pickens. We discuss whether the team might decide to elevate S Eric Rowe from the practice squad on Saturday in addition to activating DT Montravius Adam from the Reserve/Injured list. The Eagles are in good shape from a health standpoint, and we quickly go over their Thursday injury report as well. Steelers’ coordinators Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin both held their weekly media sessions on Thursday, so Alex and I parse the meaningful things that each had to see during their sessions.
