August 19, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 12 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to recapping the notable injuries that the Pittsburgh Steelers are now dealing with on the heels of their second preseason game of 2024 on Saturday night against the Buffalo Bills. We go over the injury statuses of OL Nate Herbig (rotator cuff) and RB Jaylen Warren (hamstring) this morning and how long it is speculated that both might be sidelined. We also talk about the players held out of the Saturday night preseason game against the Bills and the other players that sustained more minor injuries during that contest. With rookie C Zach Frazier now expected to be the team's starter, Alex and I discuss what the Steelers' plan might be when it comes to his possible backup to start the season. We go over the various internal options and speculate if the team might sign someone from the outside. We also wonder if Herbig has now played his last snap in a Steelers uniform and if the time might adjust his 2024 contract amount should he indeed wind up being sidelined for an exceptionally long time. After going through the health of the Steelers, Alex and I get into our full breakdown of the Steelers preseason loss on Saturday night to the Bills. We start on the offensive side of the football by going over the play of QB Russell Wilson and QB Justin Fields on Saturday night. We talk about the good and the bad we saw from each, if the pecking order on the depth chart should now change, and if we truly learned anything really valuable from that loss to the Bills. We also spend time going over the late-game missed connection on a deep pass from Fields to WR T.J. Luther that should have been a touchdown. Second-year T Broderick Jones had a poor outing against the Bills so that obviously has Alex and I concerned with the regular season quickly approaching. We discuss the Jones right arm issue and if there is a good chance he's not a starter to open the 2024 regular season. Alex and I then discuss the performances of several other offensive players from the Saturday night loss to the Bills. We mix in a lot of snap count totals as well as part of this discussion. After thoroughly breaking down the Saturday night play from the Steelers' offense, Alex and I switch over to do the same for the defensive unit. While the defensive tape was a lot more enjoyable, there were still some negative things to go over on that side of the football. In this Wednesday episode, which was recorded late Tuesday night, Alex Kozora and I dive into the possibility of the Pittsburgh Steelers being the team to land San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk in the extremely near future. This show is predominantly all about Aiyuk. We go through the timeline of reports concerning Aiyuk and the teams reportedly interested in trading for that essentially heated back up on Tuesday and flowed into Wednesday afternoon and evening. We discuss all aspects of what a trade of Aiyuk to either the Steelers, Cleveland Browns or New England Patriots might look like. We also discuss Aiyuk's leverage and if the 49ers have any chance of keeping him in San Francisco. We talk about possible the players the Steelers might be asked to include as compensation for Aiyuk as well. As part of us winding this show down, Alex and I rate our optimism when it comes to the Steelers potentially being the team to land Aiyuk. August 5, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 6 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday episode, Alex Kozora and I start by discussing the overall health of the Pittsburgh Steelers on their second off day of their 2024 training camp. On the heels of six consecutive training camp practices being conducted, Alex and I discuss the Steelers' starting quarterback battle at this point of the summer and if there really is one at all. We talk about QB Russell Wilson not yet practicing fully, the nice stretch of six practices that QB Justin Fields put together and what HC Mike Tomlin recently told Kay Adams on her show about the supposed competition the team has or is having at the key position. Should Wilson indeed wind up being the team's starter for Week 1, which is something Alex and I both think will ultimately happen, will Tomlin be hesitant to make an early season change if things aren’t going great at the quarterback position? We attempt to answer that question and also address concerns related to any potential fallout there might be to the Steelers getting Fields on the field in limited situations should he indeed wind up starting the regular season as the backup to Wilson. After discussing the situation the Steelers might face in 2024 with ILB Cole Holcomb quite thoroughly during our Friday podcast episode, news has since surfaced that the team has renegotiated his contract to add split salary language and guarantees. Alex and I discuss exactly what has transpired with Holcomb’s contract and what that likely means for him heading into the start of the 2024 regular season. Alex and I then discuss a few things related to training camp practices this past week and we spend a lot of time talking about running backs and the offensive line. We discuss how RB Najee Harris has handled training camp so far and whether RB Jaylen Warren will get more goal-line work in 2024. We also talk about how the starting offensive line is trending for Week 1 ahead of the team’s first preseason game taking place on Friday. August 2, 2024 - preseason game of 2024 being played Thursday night in Canton, OH. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran OLB Markus Golden on Thursday and with him being a familiar face, we discuss what his addition means to the team and if he should be considered a lock to make the 53-man roster moving forward. We also discuss the trickle-down effect of Golden's signing as it relates to other players at both the outside and inside linebacker positions potentially making the 53-man roster. With the immediate outlook for ILB Cole Holcomb not being great based on a recent media report, Alex and I examine the possibility of the veteran being cut this summer. We also discuss Reserve/PUP being an option for Holcomb and what role he would presumably have should he ultimately be on the Steelers' 53-man roster. Ahead of the annual Friday Night Lights practice being scheduled to take place, Alex and I recap the health of the Steelers after seven training camp practices.
