Ep 221Sarah Veblen
Sarah Veblen is our first sewing instructor who will take use through her pants fitting research and the grid method she uses to get trousers and pants to fit you to perfection. Sewcialists theme is 'all butts welcome', hence the focus on pants that fit your 'behind' better. Sarah uses horizontal balance lines and vertical balance lines to finesse the rear fit of pants patterns when you only have 10percent of work to make your home sewn trousers look sensational rather than not. Our next fit specialists are Rae Cumbie of Fit for Art patterns and lastly, we'll chat to Leila Keleher of Muna and Broad patterns. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Kate Ward of Zen Stitching discusses ways to repurpose clothes so that we're not adding to landfill. You could say repurposing clothes is being mindful of what you own and how you dispose or give it another life. This is just one board of upcycling ideas you can be inspired by. Each episode will look at a different feeling and unravel its story in fabric, thinking about different cultures and traditions to help us do that. Ep 215Fashion Revolution week 2021
Fashion Revolution Week is the time when we come together as a global community to create a better fashion industry. It centres around the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse, which killed 1,138 people and injured many more on 24 April 2013. This year, as we mark 8 years since the tragedy, Fashion Revolution Week will focus on the interconnectedness of human rights and the rights of nature. Our campaign will amplify unheard voices across the fashion supply chain and harness the creativity of our community to explore innovative and interconnected solutions. We've published various podcasts where the community has taken action to keep textile workers safe and paid for their work. This podcast was produced to showcase Ethical Clothing Australia's 10 year anniversary. Their first and only week focused on ethically accredited Australian manufacturers and locally-made textiles, clothing and footwear. It was our chance to celebrate the businesses, designers and importantly the skilled workers behind the garments made in Australia. Make sure you listen to earlier podcasts by Annemieke discuss creating Enschede Textielstad. The retail arm of this sustainable weaving mill is Sustainable Fabrics. Their Instagram account is @enschedetextielstad Then there's Liz Haywood's podcast discuss her textile industry experiences and how she's now creating Zero Waste Sewing patterns. Also listen to Clothing The Gap is a Victorian Aboriginal owned and led social enterprise. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 213Megan Green
Today's Sewcialists podcast is The Green Violet or Megan Green to discuss her 2021 update to the plus sized pattern companies tables she had collated in 2019. This is one of the accessibility podcasts developed for the latest Sewcialists theme month. Make sure you listen to all the Sewcialists podcasts and stay up to date with their theme months. Megan is a hydrologist by day, but spends most of her free time in the sewing room trying to create the perfect handmade wardrobe. She learned to sew from her mother (who learned to sew from her mother), but didn't start sewing in earnest until 2012, shortly after she moved to New Mexico and found her plus size shopping options severely limited. At that point she began sewing nearly all of her clothing and never looked back. As a self-described fitting nerd, she teaches classes in northern New Mexico, with the intent of helping people of every size make beautiful fitting and comfortable clothing. She is currently working towards a Certificate in Fashion Design and has completed coursework in pattern drafting. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Do you have any suggestions on how to repurpose a houndstooth jacket that Kate has made but now won't wear as part of Project 333? Tell us on our IG account or on the podcast blog.
