Steven or @arealheller been sewing for 3 years and he found SewOver50 through people he was following on Instagram. Steven tells us he is in Sewover60 and he should be in Sewover70 as well. He had always wanted to sew and once Steven retired he discovered tailoring was a skill his grandfathers had. All four of his grandparents migrated to the States as refugees from Russia and Poland. Alison Alibobs_sews says the SewOver50 Instagram tip posts are quite useful to her. She's not over 50 and Alison is a great friend to many sewists online. Alison had her personal embroidery story published in Threads Magazine issue 212. Alison wrote how doing embroidery on the sofa when Alison was diagnosed with breast cancer, as her mother also also done had breast cancer when Alison was 4 years old. Teresa @desewtropia created a list of Etsy digital craft sellers based in Ukraine after Anita of @daydreamofquilts put out a call to support craft sellers directly. Etsy has removed the sellers fees from these businesses as well. Teresa has web development skills and she's created this listing and a website hosting this list. Uthando Project is a small registered Australian Charity based in Perth, Western Australia. Since 2004 Uthando Project has built and maintained partnerships with 5 not for profit organisations in KwaZulu Natal, a province of South Africa. These 5 organisations work with vulnerable children and communities and all promote the importance of play in early childhood development, education, social and emotional wellbeing. Emily is careful about online safety and keeps their password and identity safe, as well as their own mental self. The ongoing phishing that happens online doesn't stop Emily from sharing their sewing projects or on their views of life. Emily has tapped into a rage of voices of women who are over 50 and fat who are silenced by many parts of the media, by makers and by influencers. Emily is current working in fat studies at university level. Recently the Sewover50 account received what looked like a copyright infringement notification from Instagram but it was a scam message that had a suspicious link that could have compromised all the hard work that the Judith and Sandy have done over the last 3 years. Thankfully no one clicked on the suspicious link and all is well for Sewover50. This podcast gives you some simple ways to protect yourself online. Jenny chats about the levels of protection she uses on her all of her online devices. This way she feels much safer online shopping and using an avatar to be her online gaming self. That's 42 thousand BC deaths every year in the US alone. The cancer treatment causes lymphedema. Eleanor Thomson or @nelnanandnora established a facebook group for sewing flat and asymmetrical clothes. This is a safe group to share sewing knowledge as well as they surgical and cancer journeys. Eleanor set up this group while she was facing her own breast cancer journey and found that sewing helped her build her body confidence. After speaking with Eleanor, there was certainly more to her story that includes sewing among many creative pursuits and running. She's continued to give back the community helping to raise money for cancer research and creating a space to sharing sewing as well. Justin first started in early 2020. He made masks for his sister and since then he has continued to sew for his own needs like his new 2022 back to work clothes. Finding patterns and fabrics are a challenge and you'll find the patterns he's used are worth considering for any body. Justin does reuse and recycle fabrics, materials and projects he's made but won't get any wear out of. As Justin says, the sewing community is more than just talking about sewing.
