Poppykettle is Melanie's online name. You may know her through her sewing blog as well as her instagram account. Many years ago, Mel decided there was more to life than simply working full time. Sewing classes gave her the sewing basics and she began to sew her own clothes with confidence - creating the work life balance she craved. When it came time to preparing for 'her big day' Mel wanted to make her own wedding dress so she went and learnt couture sewing techniques with Susan Khalje. Through Mel's prompts, Susan did teach in Australia and at the Melbourne couture sewing classes Mel met like-minded sewist, including Tatyana. Tatyana became their sewing facilitator and it became evident that the Melbourne group needed a local teacher to help fit their clothes so Tatyana created her Couture Sewing School. Margot tells us how she saved her mother's coat she wore in when she visited the UK in the 70s. The coat is now owned and proudly worn by her niece. When Margot returned back to Australia from her UK visit, this coat was stored away for another day. Forty years later Margo restored the coat fabric, replaced the lining and reused the buttons she originally bought at Harrods in the 70s. Every item has more than one life and mending is an everyday part of their lives. They teamed up last year after Mending March to keep the mending message alive on Instagram.
