Cultivate Your Calling Part 1 – Ep 204
Where are my green thumb friends out there who find it easy to cultivate plants (or other growing things)? Some people are great with plants, and others (like me), not so much. I seriously almost killed the succulent on my desk last week! When it comes to cultivating what God's placed in you, maybe you're not quite sure where to start or how to get better at it. With all the talk about calling and purpose in society today, it may seem like you are stuck trying to figure it out. It can be frustrating, right? Well, let me give you some relief to your frustration: Figuring out your calling isn't about a magical quest, another assessment quiz or trying to untie a bunch of knots. The truth is: God's already planted your calling in you, you just need to cultivate it! This week and next on the podcast, I'm sharing powerful excerpts from my Cultivate Your Calling recent half-day retreat that are sure to help you understand what God says about calling and how He directs you to walk in the calling He's given you. Be sure to grab your copy of the 4 Keys to Redefine Hustle to follow along as we walk through these keys for cultivating your calling! https://erinharrigan.com/4Keys These scriptures were discussed today's episode - I encourage you to read and study them for yourself: Ephesians 2:10 Psalm 139:16 Psalm 8:3-4 1 Corinthians 3:9 1 Peter 4:10 Proverbs 3:5-6 Sometimes you need an extra pair of hands to cultivate your calling and do business God's way, and I'm the coach that can help! Be the Conscientious Objector – Episode 203
Have you ever heard the term conscientious objector? Maybe you have heard it in terms of military service. According to Dictionary.com: A conscientious objector is a person who, for reasons of conscience, objects to complying with a particular requirement, especially when they're serving in the armed forces. They feel duty-bound to act according to deeply held religious or philosophical beliefs. Last week on Memorial Day as Brian and I watched the movie Hacksaw Ridge, I got to thinking about how being a conscientious objectors to the world's way of doing business as usual is critical for us Christian business owners. By redefining hustle to emulate Jesus in our work is all about being duty-bound and fully surrendered to act according to how God defines and directs us. On today's episode, I'm breaking down what this means for us, how we do it and applying Paul's instructions from Galatians, Ephesians and Colossians to walking out our missions in the marketplace! These scriptures were discussed today's episode - I encourage you to read and study them for yourself: Galatians 1:10 Galatians 6:14 Ephesians 4:1 Colossians 1:10 RESOURCES FROM TODAY'S EPISODE Episode 199: https://erinharrigan.com/trusting-your-own-understanding-is-a-myth-ep-199/ Money Matters Series, April 2023, Episodes 197-198 YOUR CALL TO ACTION 1. Unpopular Opinion: Boss-Mom Bugs Me – Ep 202
⛔️ ⚠️ Unpopular opinion alert! ☢️ This episode might be touchy for you, but I believe it needs to be addressed (and the Holy Spirit told me to 😉 When I started my network marketing side hustle in 2010, I remember how empowering it felt to say I was a business owner. Being the proud person I was, I brought it up in every conversation I could. It usually sounded something like, "Now that I own my own business, I'm just working this job as I build my million dollar empire!" I know...🙄🙄🙄 Around that time, I recall the mantras in my business were things like: Find your tribe and love them hard! #bossbabe #bossmom Go make it happen! Run with the big dogs! If it is to be, it's up to me! (who are these "big dogs" we're supposed to run with, anyway? And does anyone really like to be called a big dog?) Because I was "all in" for "rocking it to the top," I bought into these words, the sentiment and the approach to business they suggest, for a long time. But let me tell you 'bout my Jesus. The fateful day I woke up and thought, "this is NOT what I thought success would be like!" with my outward, measurable success yet inward emptiness, He met me face down on the berber carpet. And with His invitation to salvation, everything changed (2 Corinthians 5:17). It changed the way I viewed business, the way I did business, and my vocabulary. Now those mantras and words bug me. Truthfully, they make me want to 🤮. And I realize that's an unpopular opinion in the world's roar of "girl power" and all that. Because us ambitious and high-achieving women are supposed to embrace being strong and powerful go-getters, right? But my take is that noise is meant to distract us from full surrender to Jesus, and turn our focus to what we can do in our own power. It's counter-cultural to rely on Him, to only let Him define and direct us, and to be obedient with our disciplined action. And that will look unpopular to the world. Yet counter-cultural is what we're commissioned to be. We are to be in the world but not of it. Because we are citizens of heaven (Philippians 3:20), so we operate in His strength and power. As your coach, I'm here to hold you accountable for your surrender and obedience to the Lord in your business. So that's why I share this unpopular opinion with you. You don't have to agree with me - I still love you no matter what - yet I hope it gives you a new perspective of the world's noise. Tune into this week's episode to find out why I have the unpopular opinion that "Boss Mom" bugs me! And when you share it with a friend (because you'll want to 😉), tag me. These scriptures were discussed today's episode - I encourage you to read and study them for yourself: 2 Corinthians 5:17 Philippians 3:20 Galatians 6:14 Ephesians 2:8-9 RESOURCES FROM TODAY'S EPISODE Episode 199: https://erinharrigan.com/trusting-your-own-understanding-is-a-myth-ep-199/ Armor of God Series, August 2022, Episodes 158-162 YOUR CALL TO ACTION 1. Grace Over Grind with Special Guest Shae Bynes – Episode 201
I'm thrilled to introduce this episode with my special guest, Shae Bynes, co-founder of Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur and author of Grace Over Grind. When I started my coaching journey back in 2018, Shae's book and her devotional on the YouVersion app by the same title, really sparked my interest, and it's why I've been following her and her podcast for quite a while. So it's quite an honor for me to have her on the show today. She has so much to share with us about working with God and what it means to allow him to truly lead the way. From her own testimony and powerful story, Shae gives us a clear and practical path of what it looks like to accept God's invitation to work with Him, what happens when we stand in the posture of grace over grind. Here are a few highlights from this divine conversation for which you may want to jot some notes: 3:38: Shae's story of how a sermon on Matthew 11:28-30 in The Message transformed her journey and led to the Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur movement and the first edition of Grace Over Grind 13:26: The importance of trusting God's rhythm and incorporating Him into your business from a posture of grace over grind. 27:27: Shae's encouragement for those feeling timid in stepping into God's calling for business: "If God has called you to business, then without apology, function in that business, that is, you operating in an element of ministry, expression of God in the marketplaces through your business." 30:35: Why an expanded edition of Grace Over Grind was important I can't wait for you to hear this episode and connect with Shae! Celebrating Episode 200: A Look Back and Forward
I'm glad you're here because we're CELEBRATING episode 200! I can't believe it's been four years since I kicked off this show with some earbuds and my laptop, no knowledge of editing or technology, and only the message God gave me to share. In this episode, we're celebrating by taking a look back and forward: why this show exists, where it started, how it's going and what it means to some of my listeners, who sent me their sweet words of feedback to be included! In case this is your first episode, here's the short story of how all this began: Ambitious woman (me) got lost on her way to the top found Jesus. He said, "Why don't you let me drive for a while and you hold this map (the Bible)." And then after so much pruning (which is still happening), He said, "Now go share this with my ambitious daughters." And that's you! So join me in celebrating...and share this with your friends too! Trusting Your Own Understanding is a Myth – Episode 199
Leaning on my own understanding gave me outward success, but inward emptiness. Do you find yourself leaning most on your own understanding? In a world where we’re encouraged to do things our way, trust our own wisdom, and to “go make things happen,” it’s easy to believe that only we know what’s best for ourselves. It’s easy to lean on our own understanding and be self-reliant because, let’s face it, if you want something done right, do it yourself. Especially when our business results show us that our hard work, our tenacity, and our strength paid off in big ways. Because clearly our success is directly tied to what we do, and if it is to be, it’s up to me. I don’t know about you, but following my own understanding was/is exhausting. Yes, I had mountain top, stage-worthy moments throughout my career, with plenty of pats on the back for my drive, focus and persistence. But 30 years of that mode of operation took its toll, and I didn’t know how much until I was face down on the floor crying out for a savior when the accolades, income, client roster and “success” didn’t fulfill me (read: save me) like I thought it would. Jesus met me on the floor that day and said, “You weren’t made to do business as usual.” And the same applies to you. Recently I’ve been struggling with this leaning habit and found myself in a pretty dark place. Stuck between what I think I know about putting my God-given ambition to work, and the next level God has been showing me is just ahead. This dissonance has brought me face down before him because I’ve been afraid to keep walking on the path that he’s brightly lit for me. What is this fear? I’ve been afraid of succumbing to the aggressive driving and striving tendencies of my past. Of falling back into old, well-worn paths of my achievement-chaser patterns. The question I ask myself is, “Am I being fully obedient if I’m all-in for God’s leading, except if it involves showing up boldly as he’s directed me?” (hint: the answer is no.). In this episode, we're diving deep into Proverbs 3:5-6 and 2 Corinthians 5:17 to get clear on the instruction to trust in the Lord and not lean on our own understanding, the truth of what it means to be a new creation in Christ, and what that means for how we show up in business! Money Matters 3: Biblical Money Mindset not Jedi Mind Tricks – Ep 198
What do you think when you hear the word money mindset? Do you think of this from a Biblical perspective or do you try to keep your mindset in check with worldly tricks you've been taught, like some kind of Jedi mind Trick? Here's the thing: working through your money mindset is critical to honoring God by stepping out into the assignment He's given us without swirling thoughts and fears about money. For more on my money story and what women think about money, go listen to episodes 196 and 197! As I was preparing for this episode, it occurred to me that the world has taken the idea of money mindset, and stretched it into something beyond the actual definition, kind of like the world does with the word hustle. And I believe that's left us swirling in thoughts that undermine God's instructions to live without fear, to be strong and courageous, and to not worry about tomorrow (or temporal things). In short: Mindset is an attitude or opinion, especially a habitual one; a frame of mind or way of thinking. Biblical mindset: a set of attitudes/beliefs that are influenced by one's faith in Jesus Christ/The Bible. Money mindset: a set of attitudes/beliefs, an attitude or opinion esp a habitual one, a tendency or partiality, frame of mind around MONEY. Therefore, a Biblical money mindset is rooted in the truth about money from our sovereign Lord. Tune in to set your foundation on God's truth about your money mindset, so you don't have to rely on the world's perspective (or any Jedi mind tricks)! Money Matters 2: What Women Think About Money – Ep 197
What are your money beliefs and how do they stop you? Ever wonder what women think about money? Maybe you’ve never thought about it because you’ve simply always been driven to earn money, so you just put your head down and "make it rain." Maybe you have all the outward success – the income, the client roster, the stages, the followers, and the stuff – but you're missing inward calm and peace, and you’re exhausted chasing the money the world’s way (leaning on your own understanding). I recently polled some Christian women in business to find out what women think about money, and how those ideas stop them from forward progress at the level they know God has positioned them for. And while I wasn’t surprised at what I heard, it did leave me curious about why we think these things (and why these thoughts stop us). Here are a few things these women think about money that may sound familiar to you: Am I supposed to earn money and does that glorify God? How do I give myself permission to earn money and to spend money? Is it "Christian" to monetize my gifts and talents? If I make money, I don't want to become one of "those people." What if earning money compromises my values and family priorities? Am I the only one with these "crazy" thoughts? Let me clear: this is not about prosperity gospel, because we don't do that here. We also do not call money evil because money isn't the issue. It's the pedestal on which we put it, and it's the way that we pursue it. In the end, I don't have the answers, because I struggle here too (I share my money story on episode 196 of my podcast). But in this episode exploring what women think about money, I have three key questions you can ask yourself around your own money story that will help you dig deep to overcome this thinking and get back to walking out your God-assignment and mission in the marketplace: 1. Are you trusting more in your story than God's truth of how he defines and directs you? 2. Are you trusting more in the Guru's than you are in God? 3. have you taken this to him and asked him to break these chains around what you think about money and how those fears stop you? If you struggle to grow your business to the next level, even when you know it's what God's direct you to do, there's an incongruence between you and God's instruction. And I challenge you to consider that the incongruence could be from leaning on your own understanding, the money stories that you've been raised and taught, or you're leaning too much into the experts and the gurus who tell you should or shouldn't be doing in your business. Ouch! But you're not alone...because you're in good company with what women think about money. And together, we can change this narrative! Money Matters Part 1: My Money Story – Episode 196
Why does money matter so much in the world? How do we handle money matters in life and business? It is said that everybody has a story, and certainly for followers of Christ, sharing our stories of redemption is one way the good news of salvation reaches people far and wide. But what about a money story? You know, that story about how you view and deal with money that maybe you keep under wraps for fear of judgment, shame or guilt. Are you willing to bring it to light and put it at the foot of the cross to allow the Lord to work in and through you to redeem it for His glory? Are you willing to let it go so you can truly embrace His plan for you and walk out His assignment for your business? What part do money matters play in how you view and do business? April is Financial Literacy Month, and it's the perfect time to dig into money matters with this 3-part series! Money can be funny...just think of how we're taught not to talk about it, and how much our identity can be wrapped up in money so much so that when things go wrong, we want to keep it under wraps. Well, grab your favorite beverage and join me for a focused 15 minutes on each of these episodes to break the chains of worldly money mindset by understanding the truth of what the Bible says about money and how we're instructed to interact with it! First up on episode 196, I'm pulling back the curtain on my own money story - the good, the bad and the ugly, and how Jesus redeemed me (and my family) with His salvation! Money matters in your business, but it doesn't define you, and it's not your savior (learn from my lesson on this!). What Surrender Means for Your Business & How To Do It – Ep 195
Do you struggle with surrender? Are you challenged by fully giving God your business and letting Him lead it? If you have outward success but inward turmoil and unfulfillment, it's likely because you've always "made it happen" in your own power, and your spirit is tired of you trying to carry it all yourself. There is a gap between your faith and business, and the Holy Spirit is ready to fill it...if you'll surrender. Still you're probably asking, "What is surrender, really? Why does it matter? And Erin, how do I even do it?" You are not alone, friend. Surrender challenges me as a recovering driver, striver and acheivement chaser, but I know through daily practice of redefining hustle, I'm better able to slow my self-reliance, join my effort with the Lord, and let my business be done in His power and strength. And this episode will help you start doing the same. Here's a roadmap for today's episode: The definition of surrender, what the Bible says about it, and Jesus' ultimate example of sacrifice. Why surrender matters for your business. Three ways to put surrender into action: - Trust that God's got you and what He has for you, only He has for you. (Hint: this is the first 2 keys of our 4 Keys to Redefine Hustle - Define & Direct) - Set a God-honoring strategy & daily discipline that guides your action, your time and your surrender (This is the 3rd key: Discipline) - Practice the pause of prayer throughout the day, and let Him develop this practice over time (This is the 4th key: Develop) (If you don't already have the 4 Keys guide, grab it here) As you listen, you may feel like this is a great plan, and it makes sense, and maybe you've even done these things...but you're still swirling and need someone to take your hand and guide you through the fog. That is where I come in as your coach. I can support you with a 30,000 foot view of your business and mapping out a strategy, or with ongoing accountability and discernment to keep you walking in his will. Running at the Pace of Grace Episode 194 with Rebecca George
As high-achieving women, we're really good at running our race at OUR pace, but sometimes that leads to a finish line outside of God's will. How do we instead run at the pace of grace to remain in God's will as we do the work He's assigned? We're generally not great at giving ourselves grace, much less receiving God's grace, so running at the pace of grace can feel really foreign to us. And my guest for this episode faces this, and has great wisdom to share with us. Join me for a conversation with guest Rebecca George, author of the upcoming book: Do the Thing: Gospel-Centered Goals, Gumption, and Grace for the Go-Getter Girl, which launches April 4. As a self-described achiever, who's struggled with the tension of running at a pace that is healthy. A pace that allows her to use her gifts and talents to the glory of God, but, at a pace that's sustainable and allows her rest and all of those things. That's a pace we'd all like to be on, am I right? Rebecca shares her insights on running at the pace of grace, including: How self-discipline and also grace co-existing by the all-sufficient grace of God How we are finite, yet serve a limitless God whom we can trust, and therefore, we can be faithful with that time and that capacity He's given us. Cutting through the noisy and deceptive narrative of purpose and calling in today's world Most importantly, she shares how her book is about helping women see the Biblical truth of how God's gifted us, so they don't have to be held back by the enemy and the world's noise, and how we use our gifts for His glory and to advance His kingdom. As Rebecca said about women holding themselves back, "Not on my watch!" And it's all about running at the pace of grace! Rebecca George is an author, speaker, and host of the popular podcast Radical Radiance. Her greatest joy is helping women pursue their passions in a way that builds God’s kingdom. Throughout the year, I host half- and full-day retreats to bring the message of redefining hustle and pursuing success God's way to Christian women in business. Recently I hosted the WITH retreat, focused on what it means to be working WITH God, bringing in concepts from Allen Arnold's book "The Story of With." While we may think that working with God is logical because we know what to do in business and we know how our relationship with God works. Yet what I heard time and again in the room that day is that women are often challenged by integrating their faith and business. The gap between these areas is what often leads us to overwhelm, overachievement and missing out on the clarity, serenity and fulfillment: the abundant life Jesus promises. And hearing this, I came to two realizations: 1. God is always inviting us to His more, His plan, His work. We are called to be His co-laborers, but He doesn't force it on us: we have the free will to choose working with God. To quote Allen Arnold from the book: "we can either run with God or run from God, but the only way to experience His miracles is to put ourselves in position and to operate from a posture in which we actually need him." 2. I am humbled and honored to be used by God as His vessel for this message of redefining hustle, and I'm honored that you follow my content. But please remember: It is the Trinity that brings this message forth, and only Father, Son and Holy Spirit who deserve your true following! In part 2 of this mini series, I'm sharing excerpts from the WITH retreat, in which we applied the 4 Keys to Redefine Hustle: Define, Direct, Discipline and Develop to working WITH God. So we could understand His desire for us to work with Him, His direction for doing so, how to do it in real life, and how the Holy Spirit develops us over time to get stronger in doing so. I believe we often lower and limit our expectations based on what we know we can do, and because we like to be in control. However, that's leaving God out and trying to fit Him into our box. Let's stop doing that by truly committing to working WITH Him. In this episode we're focused on the third and fourth keys to apply His definition and direction with DISCIPLINE, and continue to DEVELOP the muscle of working with God: How do we actually "do" working with God? It takes discipline: Discipline of seeking Him (ongoing) Discipline of obedience = taking action Disciplined focus Working with God takes development: Commitment and Consistency takes development Surrender takes development Obedience takes development Discipline takes development Working in expectancy takes development In the end, the key is WITH. As Psalm 27:14 in The Message version tells us: Stay with God. Take heart. Don't quit. I'll say it again, stay with God. As you listen (or watch on my YouTube channel), please remember that this is God's message He's given me to share and I am simply the vessel. While I so appreciate you following and engaging with the content I share here, on social media, through my emails, through my coaching and strategy days. etc., ultimately it is Him that gets the glory and whom to follow. Remember that our responsibility is to keep Him at the center. If building a Kingdom business is your priority, you will benefit from a coach to help you align your strategy to working WITH God, keep you accountable and focused in doing that day in and day out, and to encourage you along the way. And that coach could be me! DM me on social about it. Working WITH God, Part 1 – Define+Direct – Ep 192
To quote Allen Arnold from the book: "we can either run with God or run from God, but the only way to experience His miracles is to put ourselves in position and to operate from a posture in which we actually need him." 2. I am humbled and honored to be used by God as His vessel for this message of redefining hustle, and to be positioned in the space between faith and business to hold space for His high-achieving, ambitious daughters and help them integrate faith and business so they can build thriving Kingdom businesses only by working WITH God. In this episode and the next, I'm sharing excerpts from the WITH retreat, in which we applied the 4 Keys to Redefine Hustle: Define, Direct, Discipline and Develop to working WITH God. In this episode we're focused on the first two keys: DEFINE and DIRECT How does is working with God defined by God Himself, and how does He define you? How are we directed for working with God by God's own directions, and how do we lean in more to understand and accept His direction? Here are a few questions to ask God as you pray over applying these two keys to working with Him: Show me how I define my identity is misaligned to how you define me. What gets in the way of me hearing and obeying your direction? What am I clinging to that needs to be released? Reveal to me any blind spots that hinder me or are barriers that keep me from working with you. What stops me from allowing you to have your way in my business? As you listen (or watch on my YouTube channel), please remember that this is God's message He's given me to share and I am simply the vessel. Finding God in the darkness and silence: practical ways – Episode 191
I often hear Christian women in business say "I'm praying faithfully, but I can't seem to hear from God. How do I go about finding God in the darkness I'm experiencing?" While our faith tells us He is there, and His word reminds us that He will never leave us nor forsake us, it can seem like we're floating in darkness and unable to find Him. If this sounds like you, let me assure you that you're not alone. Recently I've been having these same thoughts, and even my 6- and 7-figure business clients struggle here. Because the enemy works hard to get us spiraling in the darkness and silence, thinking "Finding God in the darkness is hard - are you there Lord?" because he knows if he can stop us from trusting, or get us questioning God's presence, that maybe we'll get off track. See, the enemy knows how powerful you are when your feet hit the floor in the morning...because he knows you are FILLED with the Holy Spirit and the same power that raised Jesus from the dead! The truth is: God's presence is evident everywhere! Psalm 19:1 assures us that the heavens shout about God’s glory, and Romans 1:20 shows how clearly creation proves God’s existence. See, God speaks through His world as well as through His word. But when we can't hear Him or see His light, it's often because of our own fog. Our inability (or even unwillingness, OUCH!) is often due to our self-reliance and selfishness in choosing our plan over His. It could be that we're so caught up in things going our way, and wondering why our usual system for success isn't working now, that we're in that proverbial can't-see-the-forest-for-the-trees situation. The good news is that none of this is permanent, and the Bible gives us the steps to finding God in the darkness with His Word. Tune into today's episode as we walk through this in three sections: 1. His Word assures us we can trust He IS there in our darkness 2. What stops us from hearing Him and finding Him 3. What practical steps does the Bible give us for finding God in the darkness Be sure to check out the resources listed below for great blogs on this topic, and a throwback to Episode 173: What do I do when things get hard? Self-Care – Biblical Truth+Why it matters – Episode 190
Self-care is a hot topic in today's society, especially for busy, usually overachieving women. My client did a recent google search on "what does the Bible say about self care?" and there were "about 131,000,000 results (0.47 seconds)." And that got me thinking: how does self-care factor into redefining hustle to emulate Jesus as we work? I mean, I don't see Jesus enjoying a spa day or a Calgon-take-me-away moment anywhere in the Bible. Still, as God's workmanship, we are commanded to care for each other and our bodies as His temple. What about renewing our minds (Romans 12:1-2)? Is that self-care? While we've talked about rest here on the podcast (check out episode 186 and episode 163), this is more than rest. And because self-care can be defined so many ways in society, I wondered if we ever seek God's truth of what it means, and why it's important to business as we walk out His assignment in the marketplace. I believe this goes beyond 1 Corinthians 6:19's instruction: your body is a temple, to see culture's unrealistic expectations (and pigeon-holing self-care as a spa day) vs. God’s definition and direction: nourishing our bodies for strength, Jesus giving us rest when we're weary, and honoring God by caring for our body, mind, heart and soul in His comfort, for His glory. God designed you as a unique and multi-faceted being, made up of your body, mind, spirit, heart and soul, then your self-care is as unique as you are. It's truly whatever makes those parts of you experience His glory, and I think, makes you say "ahhh" in the most calm and joyous ways. We cover three key ways we honor self-care from a godly perspective: 1. Take care of your whole person as His temple and the salt of the earth (8:12) - this includes feeding your soul with the Word on a regular basis, and seeking His kingdom first 2. Set boundaries and keep them (10:35) - saying NO to some things allows you to give God your best YES. Be sure to catch my point about being limited (10:43)...because only in Him are we "unlimited" 3. Make time for solitude and self-care (12:25) - we can never "find" time, we have to make time, meaning make self-care a priority and part of your business routine & strategy. So as you listen, close your eyes for a minute (not if you're driving!), take a deep breath and think: what do you love that fills you with more energy and that feeling of ahhhh. THAT, my friend, needs to be part of your self-care priority! Overcoming Imposter Syndrome with God’s Truth – Episode 189
We've all read about it, and we've suffered from it, but how does the Bible help us overcome imposter syndrome in life and business? I spent so much of my life/work in the "fake it til you make it" grind, trying to be like someone else, "dressing the part," etc. that I always felt like an imposter. Compound that with all the ways I was conditioned to show up in corporate life and my MLM business, and it was the perfect storm for imposter syndrome. Harvard Business Review defines imposter syndrome as a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evident success. 'Imposters' suffer from chronic self-doubt and a sense of intellectual fraudulence that override any feelings of success or external proof of their competence. You are no imposter, friend. YOU ARE HIS WORKMANSHIP! Remember that God has positioned and prepared you for your business, and that only HE has the authority to define you as His daughter. Not your achievements, your wardrobe, the stages you stand on or the progress you make. You are His, your business is His, and He wants you walking out this assignment WITH Him, as He defines and directs you. PS if you don't have a copy of the 4 keys to Redefine Hustle, get your copy at https://erinharrigan.com/4Keys As Ephesians 2:7-10 in The Message tells us: He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing. Be sure you've got someone in your corner to support your accountability and commitment to keep that imposter syndrome at bay. Someone who will challenge you to stay focused and fruitful in the face of the world's ever-shifting standards. And that someone could be me! 😉 Let's chat about how I can support you as your coach. Overcoming Rejection in the Lord’s Power – Episode 188
Have you ever heard some of these quips about rejection? “If you live for people’s acceptance, you’ll die from their rejection.” "Rejection is God's protection." "God's "no" is not a rejection of you. It is a redirection to His plan that is always best for you." They're meant to soothe us, but fear of rejection is something I hear many Christian women in business say stops them in business. Personally, it's something I lived with for a long time, going back to my childhood. I have a vivid memory of calling a friend to ask if she could come over, and when I heard her asking her parents, somehow my brain knew to pull the phone away from my ear before I could hear their answer. I was afraid to hear the word NO. At the ripe old age of 7, with the wisdom of a 2nd grader. How on earth did I survive, and even succeed, in 25+ years of corporate sales/business development being afraid of rejection? To be honest, I did so in my own strength by building up a pitbull-like grip on every opportunity, staying on the bite until someone actually said no. In fact, I actually had an attitude of "I will keep calling you until you say no because who's afraid of a 2-letter word!" It was like a grudge match. Can you relate? In this episode, I'm sharing stories of rejection from the Bible (including Jesus Himself!) and 4 ways you can overcome it, turning that fear into triumph with the power of the Holy Spirit. Here's a sneak peak: DEFINE: Build your business on the truth that only God DEFINES you. Not your work, not your client roster, not the yes or no’s or the outcomes or achievements. DIRECT: Let the Lord direct you, not the yes or no. Don’t take rejection personally - accept the no’s as part of the assignment, and don't let other people's decisions stop your progress in God's assignment. DISCIPLINE: Stay diligent in working within God’s direction. Establish a daily discipline for your work, including giving God your first fruits by starting every day with Him. Otherwise you're operating in the whims of the world and other people’s decisions...and in your own strength and power. DEVELOP: Allow the Holy Spirit to develop your ability to accept the no’s and keep moving. Learning to “shake the dust” off your feet and to forgive/give grace to those who say no or reject you. Leaving them with grace, they’re likely to remember and refer you…or even come back to you in God’s Kairos time. These scriptures were referenced in the episode for you to read along or study: Genesis 37-50 - Joseph's story of repeated rejection and eventual completion of God's plan for him 1 Chronicals 22:7-13 - God's rejection of David was redirection of the assignment to Solomon John 1:11 Matthew 26:38 Luke 22:44 Matthew 10:14 Luke 9:5 Mark 6:11 RESOURCES FROM TODAY'S EPISODE Dealing with Rejection Blog: https://openthebible.org/article/dealing-with-rejection-through-the-gospel/ Episode 105: The Call to Completion - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-105-the-call-to-completion/id1455892487?i=1000527079680 YOUR CALL TO ACTION 1. Are you a diligent sower – Episode 187
In the parable of the sower, Jesus gives us a clear picture of two things: first, that the soil in which we sow impacts our outcomes, and second, that the sower remains diligent in sowing. The sower is focused on the obedience of input: plant the seeds and water faithfully. Never being concerned about the output because, let's face it, its not in the sower's power to make things grow. Can we say the same? Are we diligent in doing our part as sowers? Or do we let the condition of the soil stop us? Looking at this from another perspective, what kind of soil are we ourselves standing in? Are we the "wayside," where nothing grows, maybe because we won't even entertain letting God lead us in business? Are we the rocky ground, being hard headed in following our way, not God's or running after the BIG new idea, but not giving it time to root? Are we the thorny ground, letting the world's cares, other people's opinions, and the enemy's distractions stop the root system? Or are we the fertile ground that God can use to impact His Kingdom when we're diligent to walk in our assignment and leave the outcomes to Him? Because when we do, He is true to His word to multiply! Join me to unpack the Parable of the Sower and how you can apply it to your business! REST for Redefining Hustle – Episode 186
As an entrepreneur, you know all about working hard. But do you know how rest improves your work? And what role does rest play in redefining hustle? The truth is, us ambitious women aren't great at resting. Maybe its because we're afraid we'll miss out on something big. Maybe it's because we've believed the lie that "if it is to be, it's up to me," so resting is not an option. Or maybe we believe the lies of the enemy that our rest is lazy, isn't working with excellence or doesn't honor God because it means we're not working. Here's GOD'S TRUTH from Psalm 127:1-2: Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep. It may seem counter-cultural and counter-intuitive to think of (much less plan for) rest in your business. It's definitely not what we've been taught in entrepreneur circles, and not what the world's "hustle" mantra tells us. BUT I submit to you this truth from the best model for Kingdom work that we could ever have: JESUS RESTED. Friend, I'm here to help you break those chains because doing the work God has given us for Kingdom impact requires focus and clarity, and that isn't possible without renewing our minds and being still in the Lord! And that means REST! How are you allowing rest in your business strategy? Are you overlooking it to push through and rely on your own strength? Maybe it's time you evaluated that and asked God to show you where you need rest. Food for thought as we say goodbye to this first month of 2023 and the world beckons us to move faster because we're already behind. Don't believe those lies! Lean into the Lord, rest with Him and you'll be energized to keep going in your assignment! Tune in for a rich discussion of rest and what the Bible says about it's impact on our work, with my special guest Corinne Coppola. Financial Must-Haves with Erica Goode – Episode 185
Are you ready to level up your business financials as you prepare to scale or even refine in 2023? Or are you among those with an established business but no clear picture of your financial foundation? (I was raising my hand here in 2022!) Or maybe you just need a refresher on financial must-haves. This month we've been focused on the practical implementation of redefining hustle, and this week I welcomed CPA/CFO and my friend, Erica Goode, to share her wisdom on three financial must-haves for your business at every stage. While I've got some highlights below, I know you'll gain so much for this conversation, so definitely listen to the whole episode! Erica's three must-haves: 1. A firm foundation: the right business structure (e.g, LLC), separate business bank account, business insurance, solid bookkeeping process (yes, Excel is ok if that's what works for you). 2. Consistency: In paying yourself, even if it starts with $20! In paying the IRS. In tithing/charitable contributions. 3. Financial vision: Planning the vision for your business financially, whether that's the next 90 days, the next year or the next 5 years. Focus on YOUR vision and God's direction for YOU (no comparison game here!). Power of a 90-Day Plan – Ep 183
"What you do today will show up in your business 90 days from now, so make a 90-day plan." I can't remember who taught me that, but it is something I always remember when I'm working and waiting on results. And while we know God can move in a split second, keeping this 90-day idea in mind is great for getting us focused in our discipline. It's why I use a 90-Day Mission Plan tool for my business, and for my clients. In fact, it's an exercise we do quarterly in the ROOTED group coaching community (so hey, come visit!). And on this episode, I'm walking you through the exercise step by step so you can implement it too! Does Hustle Get A Bad Rap – Episode 181
Before you see the word "hustle" and decide not to listen, stick with me. I recently met with an incredible Christian entrepreneur whose podcast about building a business that glorifies God, and when I used the word hustle, she cringed. But as I began to unpack the idea of redefining hustle and how that means emulating Jesus as we work, I could see the sense of relief come over her. Still, she was uncomfortable with the word because the world's definition of hustle is our comfort zone! At the same time, one of my November retreat attendees felt this initialism in her spirit after the retreat: H - Help U - Unlock S - Strength & Steadiness T - Through the L - Lord's E - Everlasting Leadership Powerful, right? Clearly God was pointing me to the need to start 2023 by exploring if "hustle" gets a fair shake or a bad rap, and to dedicate the month of January to key ways we redefine hustle. This includes two awesome guests who will enlighten us on goal setting and financial management! SAFEty First: You Need ENCOURAGEMENT – Ep 180
You know when I started my entrepreneur journey back in 2010 with my network marketing business, I was fortunate that this business model gave me a sort of built-in "tribe" for encouragement - people to hold me accountable, cheer me on and pick me up when I was tired or mired in mind trash. But when I gave my life to the Lord in October, 2014, I suddenly felt out of place, or like the wardrobe of that tribe didn't fit anymore. Because my "tribe" were great business besties, but they didn't get it when I'd say things like, "I'm doing this for God's glory," or "I'm going to pray over this incentive before I go for it." They were encouraging, but it wasn't the encouragement I needed as a Christian woman pursuing success. It's critical to surround yourself with those who will encourage you in walking out God's assignment. Encouragers who will admonish you, hold you accountable to to the commitment to doing he work God's assigned you, and the discipline it takes. Those who will come alongside you with truth and love, and even hold you up when you get tired. So why is the right encouragement important and where do we find it? That's what we're covering on the podcast this week as we finish up our SAFEty First series: Strategy Accountability Focus Encouragement Let's unpack the need for encouragement: why it's important, where to find it and what the Bible says about it. And if encouragement is what you need, I can help! Check out the links below on how we can work together. These verses were part of the message in today’s episode. SAFEty First: You Need FOCUS – Ep 179
Have you ever tried to read without your glasses or with a missing contact and everything is foggy? Or maybe you've connected a projector to your laptop and scrambled for the dial to bring the picture into focus. The same thing happens in your business when things go foggy. SAFEty First: You Need Accountability – Ep 178
Sometimes we know what God's directed us to do, but we procrastinate in doing it or we let distractions thwart our discipline. Sometimes in the midst of our progress, things get foggy and we need a guide to get us through the fog. And still other times, despite our progress, we get discouraged waiting on God and we need the encouragement of others to stay the course. In all of these times (and all the time), we need accountability! In this four-part series for December, we'll be looking at what you really need to put SAFEty first in building your business: Strategy Accountability Focus Encouragement Today we're talking about the commitment to, and power of, Accountability: what the Bible says about it, why it's important, and how to find and keep it. Romans 14:12 James 4:17 Nehemiah 4:7-21 Proverbs 27:17 Three key points in this episode: Accountability is all about maintaining discipline being steadfast in our assignment When God directs us to serve Him through our business, our job is to obey. Partial obedience is disobedience (like only following part of His direction and not all of it, procrastinating, or focusing on the distractions and not the work at hand). If we’re running around putting out fires we need to ask ourselves, “Am I being accountable to doing the work that God gave me to do?” These verses were part of the message in today’s episode. Follow along as you listen, and/or use them for your own continued study. SAFEty First: What You Need is Strategy – Episode 177
Ever feel like you're running around putting out fires in your business? If so, it could be that you're not putting SAFEty first (ahem...strategy, accountability, focus and encouragement) to tune out the world and tune into God's truth for your business. Well, before something burns up in your business (or you get so frustrated, you want to burn it all down), it's the perfect time for us to spend some focused time examining SAFEty first for your business! In this four-part series for December, we'll be looking at what you really need to put SAFEty first in building your business: Strategy Accountability Focus Encouragement Starting with strategy, let's talk about what strategy is and how to implement it, along with what the Bible says about our role (and responsibility) in setting strategy. Some key points to remember: Strategy in your business is allowing the Lord margin to move, define, and direct you. Letting Him direct doesn't absolve you from making plans aligned to His direction (as long as you leave them at the foot of the cross). What you create outside of God’s will, you have to maintain outside of God’s will (ouch!) God is the one who gives you the ability to succeed. These verses were part of the message in today’s episode. Follow along as you listen, and/or use them for your own continued study. 1 Cor 9:8 Deut 8:18 2 Chron 23:1 Proverbs 16 The book of Esther Joshua 1:7-9 Ezra 8:22 If this show brings you value, please give it a follow on Apple Podcasts and leave a review. Three Lessons From Being Fired – Episode 176
Have you ever been fired from a job? Even when it leads to something so much better, the pain lingers a bit, doesn't it? But then you realize it's all in God's hands, even if it doesn't look the way you would have planned it. Ten years ago on November 12, I was fired from my corporate sales job. Within in just a few days, I went from award-winner to fired. And that set me on the trajectory to find Jesus and follow His direction. From corporate "success," to building a "successful" network marketing business, my typical drive, tenacity and self-reliance never could have prepared me for God's meaning of success and His leading me to be here: hosting this podcast, teaching ambitious women like you how to redefine hustle and coaching them on strategy, accountability, focus and encouragement. On today's episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on this major life event, what's happened in the decade since that day, and I've got three lessons from being fired to share with you: Your work and your achievements do not define you. Don’t lean on your own understanding. God redeems everything. If I could go back and change anything, I wouldn’t! Because then I might not be walking with Him as I am today, sharing this message with you, and enjoying a relationship that guides me every single day. I can't wait to hear how this episode speaks to you! If this show brings you value, please give it a follow on Apple Podcasts and leave a review. Episode 175: Redefining hustle means emulating Jesus
Redefining hustle means emulating Jesus as we work: with intention, purpose, a sense of timing and seeking His Father's instruction through...you guessed it: prayer! If Jesus, who knew everything from start to finish, still felt the need to commune with His Father, so do we. Sometimes we get so busy in the doing of our business that we forget about the being in our business. And that BEING means BEING with the Lord: ongoing prayer is how we do it. While this may seem counterintuitive to the world’s idea of hustle, remember that throughout Scripture we see that Jesus often removed himself and spent time in prayer. He sought the Father’s will in all things. This week on the podcast we're talking about the power of prayer in business so we don't underestimate how powerful it is. Here's how we do that using the 4 Keys: Define - Ask God (and allow Him) to show you how He defines you, your purpose and success Direct - Through prayer, ask God for His direction (see Psalm 25:4-5) Discipline - Establish a discipline of starting and ending your day with prayer Develop - As you communicate with the Lord through prayer, He develops in you: - a hunger to be connected to Him - a thirst to continue in communication with Him throughout your day - a discernment to see what He’s doing and what He wants you to do - a deep desire to emulate Jesus and become more like Him. Join me as we dive in and find a new level of prayer for your business! These verses were part of the message in today’s episode. Follow along as you listen, and/or use them for your own continued study. NEW trailer: This podcast is getting a makeover!
NEW trailer: This podcast is getting a makeover! Hey friend, as you walk out God’s assignment in your work, do you ever feel like: - You’ve had success yet something is still missing. - You wonder if it's possible to be ambitious and let God lead at the same time, because you've been taught "if it is to be, it's up to me." - The “hustle” fuels your adrenaline, but you want to ditch the overachievement and pursue success with clarity, serenity and fulfillment? I feel you…because that was me. I’m Erin Harrigan, a Christian wife, empty nest mom, and business owner who spent most of my 25-year corporate career and the first 4 years of my entrepreneur life as a driver, striver and achievement chaser. My story in a nutshell is: ambitious woman gets lost on her way to the top, finds Jesus, and He says, “why don’t you let me drive for a while and you hold this map (the Bible)?” After some time of pruning and shaping, I learned that God’s definition of success was vastly different from what I’d been taught for decades. Once He opened my heart and mind to this, the Lord said “now go share this map with my other ambitious daughters,” and He led me to help women like you break free from overwhelm and overachievement through my speaking, coaching and writing. It was from this foundation that I started a show in 2019 called The Hustle with H.E.A.R.T. Podcast. Since then, I’ve been blessed to hear from so many people, that applying Biblical truth to business was exactly what they were seeking as they prayed for the Lord to guide their natural ambition and to show them a better way to build a thriving business than following the world’s mantras. And what I’ve seen is that we’re in a tug-o'war between two extremes: the frantic, aggressive definition of hustle on one end, and the recent “anti-hustle” mantras on the other. The issue isn’t the hustle itself…the issue is how we define and pursue it. And there is a better way, because success for Kingdom impact doesn’t require buying into either of those extremes. Instead, we can emulate how Jesus worked: with purpose, intention, a sense of timing and always seeking His Father’s direction. In other words, we can redefine hustle and pursue success with God as CEO! And that's why this podcast is getting a makeover with a new title starting November 7! Welcome to Redefining Hustle: Pursuing Success as a Christian Woman On each weekly episode we’ll spend a focused 15-minutes connecting Biblical truth to business with practical application so you can tune out the world, tune in to God’s truth, and turn up focus. If that sounds like what you need to start your week, then follow the podcast now so you don’t miss the exciting launch episodes coming November 7! And enter my Podcast Review Giveaway by leaving a review and entering the drawing by November 16! Redefining Hustle Principle 4: Focus over FOMO – Episode 170
FOMO. It's a state we're all familiar with, right? It's even a foundational marketing principle. Because the fear of missing out is central to our human desire to belong, to be part of "something bigger," and most especially, for us ambitious women in business, central to our desire to make an impact with the audience we seek to serve. But what if instead of FOMO, we turned to FOCUS? As in: Focus On Christ Until Steady I imagine Jesus' words for FOMO would be: Focus On Me Only And that's why this 4th principle to redefine hustle is so critical to battling the enemy's plot to get us drifting in distraction, discontentment and doubt while we covet others' supposed growing platform, multi-figure business, and overall success. Yes, coveting is a hard word to swallow. And it's also pretty accurate. To avoid it, or pull ourselves out of it, we've got to FOCUS. And choose FOCUS > FOMO (as the world defines it). Listen in to today’s episode, and catch the NEW TRAILER for the BIG announcement about this show's makeover coming November 7! And if you're struggling with FOCUS, I can help: Check the show notes to grab your group coaching visitor pass or schedule a discovery call with me. Redefining Hustle Principle 3: Surrender – Episode 169
What is it about being ambitious women of faith that we feel the need to white knuckle our work and be self-reliant? (or is it just me?) You know what it's like: one minute you're putting feet to your faith and following God's direction, and the next you're trying to multiply your actions in your own strength (it's ok, you're not alone). This week on The Hustle with H.E.A.R.T. podcast, I'm talking about the 3rd principle to redefine hustle: Surrender. Surrender is subjecting everything to His will, and that includes our dreams, plans, goals, actions and outcomes to His sovereignty. It takes daily commitment and discipline. And we're digging into how to do it - as well as 2 ways the enemy seeks to attack our surrender. 🎧 Listen in to today’s episode, and be sure to follow for a BIG announcement coming soon! And if surrender is a place you struggle in your business, I can help you strengthen that muscle! Redefining Hustle Principle 2: Faith+Trust – Episode 168
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Faith is taking that first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” And, friend, we don’t need to see the whole staircase if we already know Who has written our story! Faith, then, is having that belief, while trust is taking the step and putting that belief in action. Faith is believing God is God and we are not. Trust is obeying his instructions, knowing that He will fulfill his promises. And trusting that however he fulfills those promises to us is far greater than our plan or our way could ever be. In today's episode we're talking about how faith and trust work in your business because God’s promises are never empty, and when you have faith in Him and move in trust to do the work He directs you to do, He will accomplish so much more than you could ever do on your own. Plus you'll hear how I first hit the "successful yet empty” wall and realized I needed a NEW definition of hustle...which took a revival of my faith and then the trust to take action. These verses were part of the message in today’s episode. Follow along as you listen, and/or use them for your own continued study. Episode 165: Grow Your Godfidence, Grow Your Business
After last week's episode about resilience, you may be thinking, "Ok, got it - stick to it! I've got this...I've got confidence!" And that's awesome...still, let's slow the roll for a minute. The world sees confidence as “a feeling of self assurance, arising from an appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities.” Hmmm…is it just me, or does that sound a bit like pride? Uh oh, did I ruffle some feathers? Listen, I'm not judging because there was a time that I believed that definition, too. But the truth is, it's really about checking ego at the door and realizing confidence isn't really about us. It's about trusting God's power in us...that we are equipped and empowered BY Him to carry out HIS assignment. After much prayer, study, trial and triumph, I arrived at a multi-layered definition that I call GODFIDENCE that calls for surrender > self-reliance, and goes far beyond what we could ever do on our own. It means: 💥 Knowing God is God and we are not. 💥 Trusting that His Word and His way is such that we are committed to follow how He defines and directs me. 💥 Allowing our trust in Him to override dependence on self. When you show up with GODFIDENCE, He will bless your obedience and commitment to leaning into how He defines and directs you. He will bless your discipline. And He will develop your business in ways that you would never have even considered or imagined! Resilience: God’s Counting On You – Episode 164
Do you ever feel like you just want to quit? Like it's just too much? It (whatever “it” is!) is not going the way you thought it would? Or maybe it would just be easier for you to do something else? Don't give up, friend, because God is counting you to be resilient in walking out His assignment! Resilience is another commitment we make when we accept His mission, so let's unpack this together so you can cling to His strength in your life and business. Here's an outline of where we're going: 3 Definitions of Resilience The power or mobility of a material to return to its original form or position aber being bent, compromised, or stretched; elasticity. The ability of a person to adjust or to recover readily from an illness. The ability of a system or organization to respond to or recover readily from a crisis or disruption. What does it mean to be resilient for us Christian business women? We give God the glory in the good, the storm and the aftermath of the storm. We practice surrender over self-reliance We’re flexible and allow Him to direct and develop us, even when we’re being stretched. It requires our commitment. It results in our development. And it enables us to be directed by the Lord. So stay the course, friend. And tune in next week as we continue to explore our commitments to God in our kingdom business. The Best-Kept Secret in Your Business is Rest – Episode 163
Do you have a hard time giving yourself permission to rest? Ever wonder how rest could actually move your business forward? This month on the podcast we're talking about the commitments necessary for building a Kingdom business, and the first one may leave you wondering "are you serious...commit to rest?" Yes, friend, commit to it, because God first committed to it and made it a commandment, a gift and a blessing. And it truly is the best-kept secret in your business! We're answering three questions in this episode: Does God truly instruct us to rest? What is rest, anyway? How do I actually rest as a business owner? Armored: The Sword of the Spirit – Episode 162
You've probably read this somewhere: God is for you, not against you. (Romans 8:31, in case you need the reminder) You've probably heard it in a sermon or maybe from a friend when you were feeling like the dark clouds seem to follow you everywhere. But let me tell you again: GOD IS FOR YOU, NOT AGAINST YOU. You may be battling the enemy's schemes right this very minute, and feeling weary from the fight. Discouraged, distracted, doubtful. So today's episode is perfectly time to give you that last, small but mighty, piece of armor: the sword of the Spirit. The word for sword used in Ephesians 6:17 actually means dagger - a weapon used for close combat. You know, when the enemy is all up in your business and you’re working through (what feels like) hand-to-hand combat. It's the one tool that is used for both offense and defense. Putting on the Armor of God will allow us to do that in any and every situation we may face. It will allow us to reflect God’s love to all those we meet. It empowers us to have that calm and peace in the midst of chaos. It’s not about asking God to make the battle stop - it’s about standing in the victory of Jesus, and applying that to your business and to your life. It’s about making Him our FOCUS: Focus On Christ Until Steady Let me help you put on the last piece of armor today - the sword of the spirit! Armored: The Helmet of Salvation – Episode 161
When you were a kid, did you ever hear your mom or grandma or some other motherly figure in your life tell you not to leave the house without a hat in the winter? And do you remember rolling your eyes 🙄? Because it might mess up your carefully coiffed hair, or you'd look way less cool on that skateboard or bike, or it might get in the way of making that snowman. Or any other reason why you didn't want to wear it, right?! The thing is, they knew protecting your head was important. To help you stay warm, or protect you if you fell, or protect your ability to keep your eye on the ball (ok I made that one up). The same is true with the helmet of salvation as we put on the armor of God. In Roman times, this was the last part of armor that a soldier put on: because if his head was wounded, he couldn’t think. For us it means protecting our ability to walk with the mind of Christ and be under God’s control in building our businesses. And that means we are able to show up in our business with intention and clarity, and pursue this all with discipline (the 3rd of our 4 Keys). Most importantly, that helmet seals in our hope that, no matter what happens, we have His salvation! Even the fiery darts of the enemy can't stop that! Let me help you put on the next piece of armor today - the helmet of salvation! Enjoy today's episode and check out all the resources in the links below! Armored: The Shield of Faith – Episode 160
By the time you hear this episode, Brian and I will just be getting up on our last full day of our mission trip with Honduras Compassion Partners (@honduras.cp), the mission organization associated with our church here in Southern Maryland. It's my second trip in 18 months, and Brian's first, and right now, we're a combination of tired, heartbroken, encouraged and inspired: Tired: physically and mentally, as part of our service on this trip was building a house for a family, in addition to installing water filters and playing with the children of La Paz (the town where we serve). Heartbroken: over the physical poverty we see everywhere Yet encouraged and inspired: Despite their poverty, the people of La Paz are filled with such hope and love for Jesus. I'd even say OVERFLOWING in His light and love. They inspire us to walk more closely with Him, and it encourages us to give more of our time, talent and treasure to care for His people. It's been a test to the shield of faith that we carry as part of the armor of God, for sure, and that's exactly what we're covering on today's podcast episode. Plus I've got a NEW tool for you (that's so new I didn't even talk about it on the episode!) - grab it in the links below. Armored The Shoes of Peace – Episode 159
I'm not a shoe girl. But, I have proof that my husband IS a shoe guy - check it out on my Instagram (but seriously, how many pairs of athletic shoes do you need?) My motto is definitely "comfort over fashion," and I'm a total flip flop girl. So, you’re wondering, “what the HECK does this have to do with my business, Erin?” Well, according to Paul in Ephesians 6, having our feet “shod” with the right shoes is an integral part of the armor of God. “…and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” (Ephesians 6:15). Ready to walk forward and take action (putting feet to faith), and ready to pivot however the Lord calls you. Now you may be thinking...wait, shoes after belt and breastplate? Huh? Yes, my friend, Paul says shoes are next, so that's where we're going as we suit up to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. Every piece is important to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that even after the battle you will still be standing firm. And to stand firm, you've got have both protection and grip to move quickly when necessary (because things move fast in your business - one day you're up, the next you're down, and the enemy wants you unsteady from all that movement). Standing firm requires the right shoes: having your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Armored: The Belt of Truth – Episode 158
So there you are, moving and grooving in your business, everything is in the flow, and you’re like “Yasss Jesus, all glory, hallelujah! Look at what You’re doing with my obedience!” And the next day…BAM! You’re face down on the Berber carpet (does anyone even have that anymore?), crying out “WHYYY Lord? Why is this taking so long? Why so many no’s? Why haven’t more people bought my services (or products)?” And 💥BOOM💥 there’s a fiery dart from the enemy. And 💥WHAM💥 there’s another one! Have you been there? I know I have (like last week). And that’s why I believe God put this month’s podcast series on my heart earlier this year, yet waited in His direction for me to share now…because I’m walking this journey right beside you, friend! ARMORED: Putting on God’s armor for business. Yep, that's right: unpacking Ephesians 6:10-18. God’s Business Strategy: He Perfects – Episode 157
In today's episode, we finish up our convo on God's Business Strategy this week with this truth: He perfects us. As Dr. Charles Stanley says, "It is God working in us - God perfecting us - that allows us to do anything worthwhile for the Kingdom." God doesn’t change us in a blink of an eye - He perfects us over time. And that, my friends is what development is all about (hint: Develop is the 4th Key to Redefine Hustle - get your copy at https://erinharrigan.com/4Keys) He can take our small steps, taken in obedience and trust, and magnify them exponentially! In this crazy world of feeling ill-equipped, confused, and unqualified in your business…you are not alone. Even after a time of struggle, in 1 Peter, we see that God promises that He will perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle us. It will take endurance, being proactive in our faith, and seeking and obeying Him. He will accomplish His purpose in us as we allow Him to position us, prepare us, provide for us, and, ultimately, perfect us. I hope you will take the lessons of this past month, as you have been uncovering God’s plan for your business, and pray over them, looking for ways to incorporate them into your life and business strategy. Remember to reach out if you need any help or support in that area. In the meantime, I’ll be praying for you as you explore how to hustle with heart in your Kingdom business. God’s Business Strategy: He Provides – Episode 156
Do you ever find yourself prescribing how you want God to provide in your business? As in, "here are my goals and plans, Lord, and here are the outcomes I want. So, now could you just bless them?" (it's ok...I've done it too - did you watch the reel?) As we continue discussing God’s business strategy for us, centering on the “Four P’s” - how He positions us, prepares us, provides for us, and perfects us - this week we’ll be uncovering how God provides for us in our business. Let me be clear: I'm NOT talking about any law of attraction or prosperity Gospel! I'm talking about the truth that the Lord always provides for His people - though most often it doesn't look anything like we want it to look! Instead, it's always HIS best for us. What's best for His plan and His kingdom. These 4 P's of God's Business Strategy also align to our "Four Keys to Redefine Hustle.” Download your copy at https://erinharrigan.com/4Keys PS if embracing and activating God's business strategy has you stuck, I've got an amazing retreat for you!
