Trusting Jesus – Let Down Your Nets – Episode 211

"If at first you don't succeed, try try again." You've heard this quote, and maybe even said it to others. But how often is your trying done from a place of self-reliance vs. trusting Jesus (or even asking Him for help)? I've begun rewatching The Chosen this week, except this time my husband Brian is joining me! Join in raising a hallelujah for that! While we watched S1, E4, I was in awe watching Jesus instruct Simon and Andrew to let down their nets even after a long night (well, weeks really) of catching nothing. Desperate to pay their tax debt, and somehow be redeemed from Simon's "deal" with the Romans, Simon kept trying, and trying, and trying in his own strength, mind, logic and planning, yet he kept coming up short. Eventually, Simon's wife calls him out on not trusting God in all his work, and that very next morning, Jesus gives His faithful instruction. Simon decides to listen (though skeptical), and their boat begins to overflow with fish! So much so that Zebedee and his sons, John and James, have to bring their boat over to help. It brought tears to my eyes seeing Simon realize the power of trusting Jesus, so much so that he says he'll follow Jesus anywhere. As I watched this unfold, it brought to mind all the times we rely on ourselves - our strength, our "power," our logic and our plans - to bring in the "big catch" in business. Maybe you're in a place where you're desperate for the next client, the next invoice payment, or the next big opportunity. I've been there too, friend. And I would challenge you to think about how much you're trusting Jesus. So let me ask you: Are you trusting Jesus and His instruction to let down your nets?
