Mental Health Counseling, University of Florida, 2015 Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Florida, 2017An alumna of Eckerd College, Sarah is thrilled to be returning “home” as a professor to teach courses including Animal-Assisted Interventions, Introduction to Animal Studies, and Introduction to Psychology. In addition to teaching, Sarah has a private psychotherapy and consulting practice in Downtown St. Pete where she offers Animal-Assisted and Adventure-Based interventions for individuals and couples seeking their best lives. Additionally, she has enjoyed bringing the art and science of both Animal-Assisted and Adventure-Based interventions through custom intensive trainings to progressive educational and clinical organizations across the country. On her own journey to becoming an Animal-Assisted Therapist, Sarah led and participated in research studies exploring the individual differences of dogs, dolphins, lemurs, and sea lions, and learned through experience in equine-assisted and dolphin-assisted therapeutic programs. Fun facts: eager to see more opportunities for animal studies at Eckerd, Sarah worked with Dr. Highfill to establish the EC Comparative Psych Lab before graduating in 2010, and Sarah’s therapy partner “Comrade” was the first ever canine to be trained and observed for a study at Eckerd!YOUR HOST Madeline Merrick is a dedicated student at Eckerd College, pursuing studies in Animal Studies, Psychology, and Music.
