S2 Ep 1636S2 Ep1636: PASSION STRUCK John R. Miles: David Nurse on Entering the 10-Hertz Zone On Demand

Unlocking the Flow Code Formula: David Nurse on Entering the 10-Hertz Zone on Demand Most people spend their lives trying to escape stress. We treat it like an enemy to defeat, something to manage away or outrun, believing that peace, clarity, and high performance must live somewhere beyond the pressure. Yet the truth is far more surprising. What if stress is not what is breaking us down, but the signal that we are stepping into something meaningful? What if the discomfort we feel is not a warning sign, but an invitation?👉In this episode of Passion Struck, host John Miles sits down with David Nurse to explore the flow code and the idea that the zone is not accidental or reserved for elite athletes in rare, magical moments. Through years of coaching NBA champions, CEOs, and high performers, David has discovered that flow is a state that can be trained, practiced, and accessed on demand.👉When we understand how to work with pressure rather than fight it, and when clarity, presence, and purpose align, stress stops draining us and starts elevating us. This conversation challenges how we view pressure and offers a powerful reframing. The flow code is not about doing more. It is about learning how to meet life fully awake, right where you are.Why Flow Is Not the Absence of Stress David reframes one of the most common misunderstandings about performance by separating destructive stress from what he calls performance-enhancing stress. The kind of pressure that overwhelms us is often rooted in nonessentials, distractions, and noise. But the nerves before a big presentation, the tension before a critical decision, or the intensity before stepping into the arena are not signals to retreat. They are invitations to rise. Flow does not come from eliminating pressure. It comes from learning how to remain clear inside it.The Flow Code Formula and the 10 Hertz State At the heart of this conversation is the Flow Code formula, a system David developed through years of coaching and neuroscience research. He explains that peak performance consistently aligns with the 10 Hz alpha brain state, where deep focus and freedom coexist. This is the zone where time slows, awareness sharpens, and action feels effortless. The breakthrough insight is that this state is not random. Through breathwork, visualization, nervous system regulation, and intentional movement, people can train their brains to return to this state more consistently.Deep Practice and the Simplicity on the Far Side of ComplexityOne of the most compelling moments of the episode comes when David shares stories from his work with elite athletes, including what separates the truly great from everyone else. The difference is not talent alone. It is deep practice. While most people repeat reps, masters study every rep, extract lessons, and refine their craft with intention. Over time, this depth of preparation leads to what David calls simplicity on the far side of complexity, where performance becomes fluid again, and pressure no longer feels heavy.Explore More: The Ignited Life Newsletter If today’s episode sparked something in you, you’ll love The Ignited Life—our free Substack newsletter created to fuel your growth between episodes. S2 Ep 1631S2 Ep1631: GOOD DEEDS Hypatia Collaborative Supports Tampa Bay Non-Profits

In this episode of GOOD DEEDS, host Nanette Wiser chats with Hypatia Collaborative's Bradlie Nabours, Research and Evaluation Director about the work they are doing for non-profits in St. Pete. Nabours works with CEO Linsey Grove, DrPH, MPH, CPH and the team on cultivating a community of successful, sustainable organizations that make a difference in St. Petersburg & beyond. We talked about the history, services and organizations and how Hypatia helped those organizations. 👉Hypatia believes that providing coordinated capacity and administrative support to small, historically marginalized community-led and serving organizations can advance systems-change in our community. They use a Shared Services Organizational Model that coordinates pooled services and resources to drive down costs and creates a supported ecosystem for the folks closest to our community’s needs. Systems change can be achieved by community-led investing, planning, and implementation while creating sustainable methods to build capacity and administrative infrastructure to support slow, thoughtful growth. 👉The Hypatia Collaborative was one of 23 local innovators to receive the Tampa Bay 2025 Innovation Award, in recognition of its transformative partnership with the City of St. Petersburg and the Pinellas Community Foundation. This award celebrates local organizations driving creative impact and institutional change across the Tampa Bay region. The Hypatia Collaborative was one of three organizations in the Partnership of the Year category for its pioneering Shared Services Organization (SSO) model in St. Petersburg, which pools capacity resources and administrative support for small community-serving nonprofits. In collaboration with municipal and philanthropic partners, Hypatia has launched an SSO that offers free or subsidized access to grant writing, legal and financial consulting, technology, training, and strategic planning services leveraging a network of regional small businesses and contractors. 👉 Examples of capacity building services case studies for non-profits here. Examples of workforce development case studies here. LinkedIn | YouTube HISTORY This project started with the IGNITE! The Deuces initiative. Ignite! the Deuces is focused on concurrent economic and community development in a historically black corridor by investing in physical, organizational, and community infrastructures. Funds raised were to be used to complete capital projects that have an existing narrative, budget, and execution plan created by and for nonprofits on the corridor to share resources in seeking funding and investment together rather than individually. Concurrently, we believed completing capital projects on this historic corridor could stave off gentrification as the existing community develops its own neighborhood. In 2022, the founding partners of IGNITE! The Deuces formed a 501(c)4 organization called Hypatia Collective as a non-profit structure to fundraise for nonprofit services. In 2023, The Hypatia Collaborative, LLC was founded to house future non-capital projects like a Shared Services Organization (SSO). We were awarded a significant American Rescue Plan Act grant from the City of St. Petersburg and the Pinellas Community Foundation in 2024 to implement the Shared Services Organization model as a 3-year pilot.#BradlieNabours #LinseyGrove #hyptiacollaborative #sharedservices #gooddeeds #workforcedevelopment #cityofstpetersburg #gooddeeds #non-profits #nonprofitsolutions #nanettewiser #stpete #stpetefl #tampabay #radio #radiostpete #cityofstpete #dtsp #downtownstpete

S2 Ep 1628S2 Ep1628: KEEP THE FAITH Beth Gelman Talking Miracles & Transformation w/Rabbi Phillip Weintraub

In this episode of KEEP THE FAITH host Beth Gelman, she talks with Rabbi Phillip Weintraub about miracles and transformation - big and small. It’s January when many people in our secular world think about transformation – New Year’s resolutions, taking action on big dreams, personal resets. There are tons of articles in the press, on tv, in social media. It’s really hard to get away from the message that you are a flawed human being and now is the moment to change your life. At the same time, in the Jewish calendar, we have just left the miracle of Hannukah in December, and the Torah portions we read each week during January and early February are full of big splashy miracles and the beginning of the transformation of a group of slaves into a free people. YOUR HOST Beth Gelman is an actress and writer who became fascinated with religion and spiritual practices at a young age. A cantorial soloist, she has performed and taught liturgy and prayer in hundreds of churches, cathedrals, temples, synagogues, and educational institutions across the country, and has investigated a wide variety of spiritual and philosophical practices, from the well-known to the obscure. In addition to performing and writing, Beth has held leadership roles in arts and cultural institutions throughout Chicago and Tampa Bay. “My path has been eclectic, but all my experiences have reinforced my belief in the power of ritual, story, and song to connect, heal, and inspire.” Keep The Faith original intro music is by Tom Sivak, Gelman's husband who just debuted a Tampa Opera in November.#bethgelman #keepthefaith #faith #religion #spiritualty #powerofcommunity #stpete #stpetefl #tampabay #radio #radiostpete #cityofstpete #dtsp #downtownstpete

S2 Ep 1620S2 Ep1620: HISTORICALLY ST. PETE Rui Farias w/Author Jon Wilson: St. Pete's Historical Neighborhoods.

Welcome to Historically St Pete, a weekly conversation where Rui Farias, the Executive Director of the St. Petersburg Museum of History, explores the truths, and sometimes the myths of the people and events that created the Sunshine City. The Museum of History has been sharing the stories of the Sunshine City for 104 years and we are happy to share those stories with you here on Radio St. Pete. SPMOH Events👉For 13 years now, the Museum of History has presented a series called Happy Hour with the Historian – a unique, fun and yes, sometimes serious lecture series on subjects of Florida history, thanks to the support of Southern Roots Realty. At these monthly events, we host presentations exploring the unique history of the Sunshine State that includes historians, authors, media celebrities! 👉On Feb. 12, Jon Wilson will be talking about his book on St. Pete's Historic Black Neighborhoods. Wilson was a life-long journalist, working as a reporter, editor and editorial writer for the St. Petersburg Times. His love for history sent him through the Florida Studies Master’s program at USF St. Pete, and has authored a number of books on the African-American history in St. Petersburg. Key topics we covered:👉You authored a few books on the area’s African American history, including this one with Rosalie Peck – how did this come to be?👉Because of the Rays, there has been much talk of the Gas Plant district recently. But it wasn’t the first African American neighborhood.👉 As the Black population grew, so did the neighborhoods. The city turned to redlining to control its growth. 👉In a city made up of mostly northern transplants, wasn’t all this Jim Crow and segregation strange?👉The African American neighborhoods grew, but so did their culture and community. What was life like in some of these neighborhoods, like the Gas Plant area for instance?👉Tell us about 22nd Street South – the corridor that Elder Jordan, Sr. built that eventually became the heartbeat of the African American community. 👉What hardships did residents have to overcome? 👉Integration of the late 1950s and 1960s, the neighborhoods started to change. What happened and why?👉 What are your thoughts of the neighborhoods today?HAPPY HOUR with a HISTORIAN Doors are 6pm for mingling and a cash bar – and the program begins at 6:30pm. Ep 16131613: Bulls by the Bay with Colleen Cherry-Vallin

The University of South Florida is marking a major milestone in 2026 with a year-long celebration of its 70th anniversary, reflecting on its journey from a small commuter school in 1956 to a top-tier public research university serving nearly 50,000 students across three campuses. The anniversary campaign will spotlight the people, moments, and milestones that shaped USF, while also looking ahead with fresh signage, videos, limited-edition merchandise, a dedicated website, and invitations for the community to share their own USF memories. Looking forward, USF is highlighting transformative initiatives like a 35,000-seat on-campus stadium opening in 2027, the Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing, and the mixed-use Fletcher District, all under the leadership of its ninth president, Moez Limayem.🔗 https://www.usf.edu/news/2026/usf-celebrates-70th-anniversary-in-2026-with-year-long-campaign-honoring-its-history-focusing-on-the-future.aspxUSF’s momentum is also showing up in the national research spotlight. New rankings from the National Science Foundation place USF at No. 47 among public universities and No. 69 overall, with $522 million in research expenditures in fiscal year 2024 — a 13% year-over-year increase that outpaces more than 90% of its peers. Federal investments are fueling impactful work, from cybersecurity training to climate resilience tools like the CRIS-HAZARD app, which helps communities track flooding risks in real time. Growth in fields such as Computer and Information Sciences, now ranked No. 25 among public universities, highlights USF’s expanding role in workforce development and innovation.🔗 https://www.usf.edu/news/2026/usf-rises-in-new-research-rankings-outpacing-many-peer-institutions-in-growth.aspxOn the USF St. Petersburg campus, groundbreaking discovery is happening on a much smaller — but no less important — scale. Graduate student Anne Sawl is conducting conservation research on the Florida scrub millipede, a rare species found only on the Lake Wales Ridge. Her recent success in observing millipedes hatching and thriving in a campus lab marks a major step forward in understanding and protecting this imperiled creature, which plays a key role in Florida’s scrub ecosystems.🔗 https://www.stpetersburg.usf.edu/news/2026/rare-giant-millipedes-unearthed-in-graduate-students-conservation-research.aspx👉 Keep up with all the latest USF St. Petersburg news and stories shaping the future of our region.

Yes David Letterman. He will be racing in a McLaren 720 GT3 EVO which produces about 600 HP from a twin turbo V8. They call these colors the Papaya! He will easily be the youngest competitor this year in the 24 Hours of Daytona and will run the entire championship. When asked about the #21 racecar and what he hoped to be doing when he turns 21? "A winning Indy driver on the circuit!" Nikita Johnson joins Cape Motorsports powered by ECR for his first full-time season in INDY NXT by Firestone after three appearances with HMD Motorsports in 2025. The Floridian competed in four different open-wheel series on three continents in 2025. Besides his INDY NXT experience, he also raced in Formula Regional Oceania, British GB3 and FIA Formula 3. He became the youngest-ever race winner in British GB3 in 2024, taking the checkered flag at Zandvoort at age 16, following with a win at Brands Hatch. Johnson finished second in the USF Pro 2000 championship in 2024 and won eight races, and he placed second in the USF2000 championship in 2023. In advance of his full-season USF Pro 2000 effort in 2024, Johnson jumped to the series at the end of the 2023 season and triumphed at Circuit of the Americas tobecome the youngest race winner in USF Pro 2000 history, at age 15. Nikita was the first driver to win all 3 levels of the Road-to-Indy ladder which is USF Juniors, USF 2000 and USF PRO 2000. He is also the youngest in history to win at each level of this ladder: He was a 2-time winner in GB3, aka British Formula 3. He was 3rd in the Formula Regional Oceania championship in New Zealand. He currently has 19 Super License points of the 40 required for F1. When he's not racing, he loves to head out on his boat and fish and works out rigorously daily. Java House is his new sponsor (he loves a latte, but avoids sugar and eats clean, no processed food. Cheer for Nikita! Join he and his family, including brother Kai (who also races but now is playing baseball too) at Gulfport's O'Maddy's Feb. 25 (time TBD) with Greg Billings band and lots of racing fun. Nikita will also be at City Hall for the raising of the flag with Mayor Ken Welch. S2 Ep 1606S2 Ep1606: Sunshine Sisters: Dr. Kanika Tomalin

In this episode of Sunshine Sisters, host Karen Carmichael sits down with Dr. Kanika Tomalin, President and CEO of the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg, to discuss leadership, community, and what it truly means to build a healthy city.A lifelong St. Petersburg native, Dr. Tomalin reflects on growing up in a large, deeply connected family that spanned every corner of Pinellas County. Those early experiences shaped her belief that community, equity, and access—not income or neighborhood—are the true measures of quality of life. She shares how seeing the full spectrum of lived experiences in St. Pete informs her leadership today.Dr. Tomalin traces her career across journalism, healthcare, higher education, city government, and philanthropy, explaining how each role strengthened her commitment to public service. She describes St. Pete as a city full of possibility—one that is becoming distinctly itself rather than trying to mirror other cities—and speaks passionately about building a future the next generations will be proud to inherit. The conversation also explores what “community health” really means. For Dr. Tomalin, it goes far beyond hospitals and doctors to include safe neighborhoods, walkable streets, access to nutritious food, reliable transportation, quality education, and a strong sense of belonging. These social determinants, she says, are essential for both individual and collective thriving.Dr. Tomalin highlights the powerful role women are playing across St. Pete—in education, economic development, nonprofit leadership, and beyond. Dr. Tomalin celebrates both trailblazing women leaders and the culture of mentorship that ensures they won’t be the last.To women listening who feel called to make an impact, Dr. Tomalin offers simple but powerful advice: start where you are, show up consistently, and follow your passion. In St. Pete, she notes, engagement is welcomed, leadership pathways are open, and there is no “wrong” place to begin.About Dr. Kanika TomalinAs President and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg, Dr. Kanika Tomalin leads, directs, and integrates all aspects of the Foundation’s internal and external activities. She is a steward of the Foundation’s resources, ensuring decisions are mission-aligned and based in equity.Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. Tomalin served as Deputy Mayor and City Administrator of the City of St. Petersburg, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President for Strategy at Eckerd College, Regional Vice President of External Affairs at Bayfront Health Network, and Director of Strategy for Health Management Associations. Dr. Tomalin currently serves on the boards of The Dali Museum, Academy Prep St. Petersburg, Bayfront Health Foundation, Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation, and the Eckerd College National Advisory Council. She has received numerous honors and appointments, including being named: the ACLU’s Gardner Beckett Civil Liberties honoree; St. Petersburg Chamber’s Businesswoman of the Year, inaugural “Iconic Woman to Watch” and Young Business Leader of the Year; YWCA of Tampa Bay’s Woman of Distinction; one of Tampa Bay Business & Wealth magazine’s Women Who Win; and one of Florida’s Most Powerful and Influential Women.Dr. Tomalin was married for 17 years to well-known adventure journalist Terry Tomalin, until his passing in 2016. She is the fifth generation of her family to call St. Petersburg home and enjoys life here with her children Kai and Nia.For more information about The Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg visit the website. https://healthystpete.foundation#drkanikatomalin #foundationforahealthystpetersburg #sunshinesisters #womeninleadership #cityofstpetersburgleaders

S2 Ep 1608S2 Ep1608: ARTS ALIVE! Bill DeYoung - Celebrating John Lamb's Birthday w/Bryan J. Hughes

This episode of Arts Alive! podcast is all about jazz, and a Saturday event at The Palladium that’s already sold out. It sold out because the guest of honor, bassist John Lamb, just celebrated his 92nd birthday. The Florida native, and longtime St. Petersburg resident, came to the studio for a conversation about his extraordinary life so far. Lamb was accompanied by vocalist Bryan J. Hughes (who’s considerably younger). Hughes and a crackerjack band of bay area musicians will celebrate Lamb’s latest milestone at Saturday’s Side Door Cabaret show. The man himself will sit in for a couple of tunes. Mr. Lamb began his musical career playing tuba with a U.S. Air Force Band, and after a few years of music college education, and apprenticeship, was hired as a fulltime member of Duke Ellington’s Orchestra. All in all, he spent seven years playing for Sir Duke. And that, among many other things, is something to talk about.#artsalive #billdeyoung #stpetecatalyst #johnlamb #bryanjhughes #palladium #jazz #stpete #stpetefl #tampabay #radio #radiostpete #cityofstpete #dtsp #downtownstpete
