Our partners at Visit St. Pete Clearwater are hosting multiple partner summits around Pinellas to share key tourism data, highlight VSPC priorities and opportunities for you to partner with our CVB throughout the year. One will be held January 13 at the Beach Theater on St. Pete Beach. Learn more and rsvp HERE Happy to hear that work is finally starting on the new Emergency Medical Services Building on North Redington Beach. They have had to deal with multiple delays beyond the storms to get this project underway. North Redington Beach, Redington Beach and Redington Shores will see improved response time and service with the facility. More about this facility and other NRB news can be found HERE Congratulations to Madeira Beach Interim Manager Clint Belk for hosting a well attended community gathering last weekend to discuss the best way forward on a newly acquired city piece of land. Dozens came together to talk about what's the best use for the $18 Million parcel at 150th avenue on the waterway. Bringing the community together early on and building consensus is a great way to go to ensure a successful completion. You can read more HERE We were disappointed to see that the city of Treasure Island rejected the ordinance which would have allowed the Thunderbird Redevelopment to move forward. Hopefully the community and city leadership can come together to decide the next step. We must allow our property owners, residential and commercial, to build back responsibly. Kicking the can down the road just delays our recovery. Several of our cities will be holding March elections. Every chamber has different policies on the role of the chamber during campaign season. I can tell you that while our chamber will never hesitate to speak up on policies or issues of importance to our members, we do not endorse candidates in contested races. We are grateful for those who offer themselves in service and want to partner with whoever is in office to move our communities forward. S2 Ep 1520S2 Ep1520: DATING Eckerd College's Nicole Vogler on Cuffing Season
Nicole Vogler, Editor-In-Chief of Eckerd College Triton News, shares insight into dating trends. Cuffing season is a social phenomenon during the colder fall and winter months (roughly October to March) when single people seek temporary romantic partners to cuddle with, attend holidays with, and generally combat loneliness, often "handcuffing" themselves to someone just for the season, with the relationship likely ending when warmer weather arrives. It's driven by biology (less sunlight affecting mood) and environment (fewer outdoor activities, holiday pressure).#tritonnews #eckerdcollege #nicolevogler #datingtrends #cuffingseason #stpete #stpetefl #tampabay #radio #radiostpete #cityofstpete #dtsp #downtownstpete

S2 Ep 1498S2 Ep1498: A Sunshine Sisters Special: The Story of Autism Inspired Academy
On this special episode of Sunshine Sisters, host Karen Carmichael welcomes Cher Harris and Liz Russell, the co-founders of Autism Inspired Academy (AIA)—a school that has transformed from a tiny summer camp into a thriving educational sanctuary for students on the autism spectrum. What began with just eight students in 2017 has grown into a full K–12 program serving more than 130 young people today.Cher, a longtime public-school teacher in an autism self-contained classroom, always dreamed of opening her own school. But without guidance or a clear roadmap, that dream felt far out of reach—until the day she met Liz. In their very first conversation, Liz asked her what she truly wanted to do with her life. When Cher said she hoped to open a school someday, Liz responded with a simple but life-changing idea: “What if we start with a camp?”That moment marked the beginning of Autism Inspired Academy.Liz’s motivation came from two powerful places. As a parent of a child on the spectrum, she understood firsthand the challenges families faced in finding suitable educational placements. For years, parents in her community shared heartbreaking stories and asked her for guidance. She quietly promised herself that if the opportunity ever came, she would help create something better. When she and her husband, Philip—AIA’s third co-founder—agreed it was the right time for her to step away from corporate life, she committed fully to making the school a reality.Their partnership worked because their strengths were complementary. Cher brought deep knowledge of education, behavior strategies, and classroom leadership. Liz brought business experience, sales confidence, and an understanding of finance, pitching, and legal frameworks. Together, they built the foundation for AIA’s philosophy: confidence, character, and connection. One of the most pivotal moments in the school’s early development came when they were selected for the Drexel Fund’s highly competitive Founders Program (https://www.drexelfund.org). The program provided a stipend, leadership training, and resources, allowing Cher to leave her public-school job and work full-time on AIA. It was the moment the dream became tangible. But growth was not without challenges—especially securing a proper facility with the right zoning. After months of searching, the perfect building finally came through. That milestone marked the school’s true beginning. When COVID-19 hit, AIA was still in its pre-opening year, temporarily operating out of a borrowed space in Tampa. Despite the uncertainty, Cher and Liz pivoted quickly, moving to virtual sessions, delivering weekly learning kits to families, and hosting all-student Zoom gatherings to maintain connection and community. The culture that formed during those early, intimate months—one built on respect, teamwork, and genuine care—has remained intact even as the school has grown to 46 staff members and 135 students. At the heart of AIA’s curriculum is a strong emphasis on behavior, character development, and social communication. The school uses the Zones of Regulation program (https://zonesofregulation.com), teaching it across all grade levels to help students develop self-awareness and emotional regulation. Academic lessons pause for teachable moments when social or behavioral skills can be reinforced—because at AIA, those are viewed not as secondary skills, but as essentials for life.Even as the organization expands, the founders remain committed to a deeply student-centered philosophy. Their leadership approach is based on presence: they walk classrooms daily, check in frequently with teachers, observe instruction, and uphold the culture through consistent, respectful communication. Staff quickly learn that feedback, collaboration, and shared purpose are core to the AIA way.Looking to the future, Cher and Liz envision a full K–12 program with a robust transition pathway for young adults. They are expanding their micro-enterprises, including Inspired Farming and the Shark Bikes Café, and building stronger partnerships with local businesses to create inclusive vocational opportunities. Their goal is to prepare students not just to feel safe, but to truly thrive—academically, socially, and ultimately within the larger community.AIA aims to be a sanctuary for families: a place to learn, plan, and feel supported through every stage of their child’s growth. Beyond academics, the founders see themselves as advocates and guides, helping families navigate the complex journey from childhood to adulthood, long before age 22 approaches.Families, donors, and community partners all have a place in AIA’s mission. Parents are encouraged to become part of the school’s community; donors are invited to stay connected and see the impact of their support; and local businesses are welcomed into partnerships that open doors for students to learn and work in inclusive environments.Visit Autism Inspired Academy📍11225 US Highway 19 North, Clearwater, FL

In this episode of Pet Tips, Eckerd College's Maddie Merrick reports on the importance of an annual vet visit and some tips and issues for dental health and senior pets. Dental health is crucial for senior pets, requiring more frequent vet checkups (every 6 months) and diligent home care like brushing, dental chews, and special diets to combat common issues like periodontal disease, tooth decay, and oral tumors. S2 Ep 1505S2 Ep1505: HISTORICALLY ST. PETE Rui Farias Previews Upcoming Tourism Exhibit "Wish You Were Here"
In this episode of HISTORICALLY ST. PETE, St. Petersburg Museum of History executive director Rui Farias introduces an upcoming preview of a new exhibit on tourism. Says Farias: "The museum has been sharing the stories of the Sunshine City for about 103 years, almost 104 years now actually. We have been working on a new exhibit that will debut at the end of January, presented by Bay First Bank. The exhibit is called Wish You Were Here. It's the story of tourism here in St. Petersburg and the state of Florida as well. One of the main resources for research that I've used for this exhibit is a book called "Warm Wishes from Sunny St. Petersburg," written by the museum's curator and historian Nevin Sitler. Both the book and this exhibit detail the selling of the Sunshine City. How did we go from a small fishing and farming village to one of the hottest tourist destinations in the world? Imagination and creativity, lots of it. And of course, the brains and courage of a few of our early pioneers who saw the potential of Saint Pete."🦩BACKGROUND By the 1910s, St. Petersburg was not only attracting visitors, it was organizing them into a social force that shaped the growing city. State and city societies brought together winter residents who shared the same hometowns, creating familiar networks far from home. Groups like the Illinois Society and the Ohio Society held weekly meetings, picnics, dances, and outings that filled the season with activity and camaraderie. These clubs offered newcomers an easy way to build friendships while also giving them a voice in local affairs. At the center of this movement was the Presidents’ Union, an umbrella organization that coordinated events and occasionally spoke on civic matters. Through its work, these societies helped define St. Pete’s identity as a friendly, small-town community where northerners could settle in quickly and feel welcome. They also strengthened regional ties, turning the Sunshine City into a warm extension of states hundreds of miles away. Tourism in this era was more than leisure. It was a sense of belonging. For many families, the friendships forged within these winter societies became the heart of their Florida experience.🦩Explore more at the Museum 10am to 5pm Monday through Saturday or from Noon to 5pm on $6 Sundays! #HistoryStPeteUpcoming EventsMORE Historically St. Pete https://audioboom.com/channels/1842136-radio-st-pete-podcast-archive?search=%23ruifarias#tourismstpete #tourismflorida #wishyouwerehere #history #ruifarias #stpetersburgmuseumofhistory #HISTORYicallystpete #sunshinecity #floridahistory #stpetersburghistory #tampabay #radio #stpete #radiostpete #stpete #stpetefl #tampabay #radio #downtownstpete #

S2 Ep 1502S2 Ep1502: ARTS ALIVE St. Pete Catalyst's Bill DeYoung - Dr. Zachary Bartholomew Celebrates Vince Guaraldi
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas, and its evocative, jazzy score, pianist Zachary Bartholomew and his trio are in town this weekend to breathe new life into what has become timeless music. The score was written and originally performed by the late Vince Guaraldi, whose deftness as a composer was matched by his arranging and recording brilliance. Guaraldi wrote for a half-dozen Peanuts specials and movies, and his music is as much a part of their winsome charm as Linus’ blanket, or Snoopy’s eccentricities. Bartholomew and his group go all-Guaraldi Sunday at the Palladium Theater’s Side Door Cabaret. (The show is sold out 12/12.) The Miami-based musician, composer and educator guests on today’s video edition of the Arts Alive! podcast. The Florida native discusses his love of music, his considerable education (he’s DR. Zachary Bartholomew) and the musicians that will accompany him for Sunday’s holiday concert. He also performs for us – a couple of classic tunes from A Charlie Brown Christmas.
