S2 Ep 1838S2 Ep1838: HISTORICALLY ST. PETE Womens' History Month: Rui Farias Tours SPMOH Meddling Women Exhibit
In this episode of HISTORICALLY ST. PETE, Rui Farias - executive director of the St. Petersburg Museum of History, takes us on a tour of Meddling: The Women Who Built St. Pete exhibit to celebrate Womens' History Month. Enjoy all of Farias's podcasts anytime, here.🎤From the Pinellas Peninsula's first settlers to the trailblazers of today, women have always had a hand in the development of St. Petersburg. Referred to as "meddling" by historians for stepping out of gender norms and into male-dominated spaces, these women were politicians, civic leaders, educators, real estate developers, business owners and more. Through photographs, info panels, artifacts and video, this exhibit shares the stories of the women who created the Sunshine City. This exhibit was made possible through funding by the Adelphi Trust Company, the first trust company in Florida founded, owned and led by women. 🎤Rui Farias is the Executive Director of the St. Petersburg Museum of History, which has been sharing the stories of the Sunshine City for 102 years. In his podcast he and guests explore the truths, possibly the myths of the people and events that created the Sunshine City. Tune-in weekly to Radio St. Pete.com for Farias' fascinating podcast and stop by the St. Petersburg Museum of History on your next visit to the St. Pete Pier and explore the rich and unique history of the Sunshine City. S2 Ep 1833S2 Ep1833: ARTS ALIVE! St. Pete Catalyst's Bill DeYoung: The Drawer Boy @The Off-Central
Michael Healey’s tender drama The Drawer Boy is onstage through Sunday at The Off-Central, St. Petersburg’s intimate “black box” theater – with just 43 seats, it allows the audience to get right into the thick of things. Joining host Bill DeYoung on Arts Alive! today is the entire cast of The Drawer Boy, Stephen Riordan, Michael Menszycki and Lucas Ethington. Riordan and Menszycki play lifelong friends who have operated a farm together for years. Ethington’s character is a young playwright and actor who arrives to “study” them for a theatrical project about life on a farm. There are lots of laughs in The Drawer Boy, and plenty of pathos, along with more than a little heartbreak (no spoilers here). These three exceptional actors discuss their initial reactions to the play, their relationships with director Ami Salee, and with each other as they learned to heft the dramatic weight of Healey’s story.Sunday's show is sold out; check ticket availability for Friday 3/13 and Saturday 3/14.

S2 Ep 1831S2 Ep1831: THE MOREAN ARTS CENTER June Bunch Previews April/May Exhibits & Events
The Morean Arts Center's June Bunch takes us on a tour of exhibits & events coming up in April 2026, including the new Spring Classes.June Bunch: State Flower Ladies Opening Reception/Meet the Artist:Saturday, April 11, 5pm to 8pmGallery Talk with June Bunch + Live Music:Thursday, April 23, 5:30pm to 7pmOn view: April 3 – May 2For State Flower Ladies, June Bunch transforms 50 state flowers into botanical ballerinas. Her illustrations combine figure drawing with floral theatrics, adding elements of vibrant colors and texture-rich embroidery to her work. In an instant, her images stretch the viewer’s eye past the present to see the blossom’s full-seasonal vitality, summarized in one frozen motion. Bunch curates contemporary illustrations by studying plants’ “choreography” of growth, illuminating their dance with vibrant colors and clean lines. Her visual art remains rooted in botany and ballet, featuring postures that hold emotional richness, highlighting human nature and flora in a bold, empowering way. The art is created first through expressive figure drawings and botanical sketches that are then translated digitally and drawn line-by-line with a pen-tool, tending to each marking with thoughtful detail. To dive into the story behind each illustration, you can visit https://www.junebunch.com/illustrationAbout the artist: June Bunch (@junebunchstudio) is a self-taught illustrator from St. Petersburg, FL. Her art focuses on natural growth, interpreting plants’ movement through human body language. She studied botany and illustrated for plant nurseries before moving to Juneau, AK as a naturalist guide. There, June grew inspired by the “choreography” of the natural world around her and humanized it, incorporating figure drawing paired with a love of dance. Her work has won an honorable mention at the Morean Arts Center and has been on display at the Imagine Museum, Dunedin Fine Arts Center, Five Deuces Galleria, Art@400, The Werk Gallery, and the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance Gallery. She has recently been awarded a micro-grant from the Gobioff Foundation which sponsored a portion of the State Flower Ladies exhibition.Alexia Benavent: De aquí, De allá - Connecting with HomeOpening Reception: April 11, 5-9pm On View: April 11 – May 2Morean Center for Clay: 420 22nd St. S.Artist’s Statement In a diaspora often the only thing you can take from your home are memories. Suddenly everything can be a reservoir of memory, old photos of a favorite restaurant, a bowl you used every day from your mother’s kitchen. Even rusty tools from a childhood home can become treasured keepsakes and tangible connections to places that are not the same and may only exist now in this handful of remembrances. In a world that so strongly wants to deny you a place, they take you back to a time you didn’t even realize was so precious. Anything too big to fit in a suitcase is left behind forever. Items like photos are some of the last reminders of a home now long gone. This exhibition is an exploration of the tenderness and fragility of the past, conducted through the use of soft and hard materials. The objects chosen are small, mundane, and often ephemeral to show how everyone finds their own way to carry home with them. During the creation of each object care was taken to preserve signs of the artist’s hands to signify a level of care for memory even found in seemingly insignificant objects.JENNY DAY: Happy Birthday, Stinky Opening Reception: April 11, 5-9pmOn View: April 11 – May 2 Morean Center for Clay: 420 22nd St. S.Artist’s Statement My work often holds a deep reverence for the natural world, concerns about climate change and natural disaster. Lately I have created another landscape; populated by an army of friendly creatures. Here burdens are dismissed by the whimsical. Happy Birthday Stinky invites viewers to attend a birthday party for a skunk, complete with a dinosaur pinata, cake, ice cream, presents, balloons, and pizza. In this place worry is edged out by the fantastic and mystical. The apocalyptic is supplanted by the surreal and the allegorical. Outside influences still seep in, broken ceramic windows let in a flurry of leaves, cigarettes, old tin cans, a dead bluejay. My work often flirts with how the world might end, while simultaneously finding ways to adapt, recreate, and live on. The Morean is proud to present the work of three seniors in the Pinellas County Center for the Arts program at Gibbs High School 4/11-5/29. After three years of an intense visual art curriculum, students in their fourth year at PCCA begin preparation for their senior project. The senior project is required of all PCCA students wishing to graduate with a certificate from the program. Seniors in the visual art department must develop a cohesive body of work that describes an in-depth exploration of a particular artistic concern or visual idea. Works produced between the beginning of the school year in August through the middle of February, when the

Doors open at 2. Tickets here. All Palladium events here.PERFORMERS @ LRFest – the Showcase! Featuring Daniel Kimbro, Andy Sydow, Hobo Cane, and The Honey Badgers! It’s a truly amazing collection of singer-songwriters to delight you once again.Andy Sydow – Americana, rock, folk, singer-songwriter, Andy Sydow is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist whose lyrics paint a picture of poetic realism. Touring both solo and with his band (Andy Sydow & The Minor League), Sydow is known to sway an audience with acoustic guitar ballads, surprising keyboard chops, and even sing a few numbers on his lap steel. He draws comparisons to voices like Paul Simon and Jackson Browne, mixed with a roots rock vibe reminiscent of Tom Petty or Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. In a career spanning over a decade, Sydow has released several albums and singles, toured internationally, received Triple-A airplay, and climbed the AMA Charts. He has been a finalist in the Kerrville New Folk Songwriter Competition (twice!), and supported numerous acts including: Shane Smith & The Saints, Dick Dale, Chuck Prophet, Tab Benoit, Samantha Fish, Lucero, and Anders Osborne. Learn more. Daniel Kimbro is an accomplished bassist, multi-instrumentalist, and music director whose career bridges bluegrass, Americana, jazz, and roots music. A graduate in Strings Performance and Studio Music & Jazz, Kimbro began touring professionally shortly after college with The Lovell Sisters, later helping connect his bandmates with fellow musicians to form the Grammy-winning roots rock band Larkin Poe. In 2013, he joined legendary resophonic guitarist Jerry Douglas after being heard on tour, and in 2024 he was tapped as bassist for Sarah Jarosz’s nationwide Polaroid Lovers tour. Kimbro also serves as house bassist and Music Director for the Woodshed Guitar Experience, where he has performed alongside renowned guitarists including Eric Johnson, Steve Morse, Robben Ford, Brent Mason, and many others. Known for his versatility, musical sensitivity, and deep groove, Kimbro brings world-class musicianship to every stage. Learn more. The Honey Badgers When Michael Natrin asked Erin Magnin to dust off her fiddle and join him for a couple songs at a local songwriter showcase, the two never imagined they were creating a musical partnership that would continue far into the future. Playfully calling themselves The Honey Badgers, more to make themselves chuckle than to make any sort of a statement, the two discovered a chemistry between their voices that demanded to be heard. Thus, the duo was born. The Honey Badgers’ folk/Americana sound has been likened to that of The Civil Wars and The Swell Season. They are known for their intense, unique harmonies, their sincere lyrics and melodies, and their undeniable and captivating onstage charm. Weaving their voices together with Michael’s driving guitar and Erin’s wistful violin, they spin stories and songs about finding yourself, finding each other, and finding your way in the world. Learn more. Hobo Cane Pure heart. Pure soul. Pure music. That’s the spirit of Hobo Cane. Born Javier Alberto Mendoza in Virginia to a Spanish mother and a Mexican-American father, music was woven into Javier’s life from the very beginning. His passion ignited early and led him to Miami, where he launched his professional career as a staff writer with Warner-Chappell Music. There, he penned songs for global pop icons including Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Juanes, Rosario, and more—cutting his teeth at the highest level of the industry. Life’s winding road eventually led Javier to St. Louis, the legendary city of Miles Davis, Tina Turner, and Chuck Berry, where he built a devoted following and deepened his artistic voice. In 2014, he followed that voice to Nashville, Tennessee, embarking on a new chapter and birthing his most personal project yet: Hobo Cane. Today, Javier splits his time between St. Louis and Nashville, constantly traveling, creating, and evolving. At the core of Javier’s artistry is an unshakable belief that music heals, connects, and fills the soul. Over the years, he has performed hundreds of benefit concerts, supporting both local and international nonprofit organizations such as World Pediatrics, Nurses for Newborns, Pan y Amor, and many others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while confined to his home, Javier transformed isolation into unity by composing an instrumental piece titled “Respira.” Featuring more than 20 musicians recording remotely from around the world, the project raised over $10,000, which he distributed to out-of-work musicians and struggling St. Louis music venue owners. S2 Ep 1828S2 Ep1828: PASSION STRUCK John R. Miles: Ken Lizotte On Ethical Entrepreneurship
Ken Lizotte On Ethical Entrepreneurship: Why Henry David Thoreau is the Unexpected Mentor Modern Leaders Need Most people move through life productive, busy, responsible, and exhausted. They meet deadlines, pay bills, show up for obligations, and keep achieving. Yet beneath the surface, many carry a quiet sense that something essential is missing — a deeper experience of mattering.🎤In this episode of Passion Struck, John R. Miles sits down with Ken Lizotte to explore how Henry David Thoreau pioneered a model of ethical entrepreneurship long before the term existed. Through Ken’s lens, Thoreau emerges not as a hermit retreating from responsibility, but as a deliberate architect of life design who proved that livelihood should never require you to betray your soul. This conversation reveals that the author of Walden was also a builder, innovator, manufacturer, surveyor, educator, and independent professional who designed his work around integrity rather than approval. The Hidden Professional Life of an Ethical EntrepreneurThe popular image of Thoreau centers on a solitary philosopher beside a pond. Ken Lizotte uncovers a far more dynamic portrait: a man deeply engaged in commerce, innovation, and professional contribution. Thoreau helped reinvent pencil manufacturing in America after researching European techniques and developing a new formula and manufacturing process that made lead more predictable and reliable. That innovation elevated the entire industry. His time at Walden Pond, often romanticized as withdrawal, was economically generative. He drafted and redrafted the manuscript that would become Walden over nine years, creating intellectual property that continues to sell more than 170 years later. What appeared simple on the surface was disciplined, profitable work beneath it. If Thoreau had a LinkedIn profile today, it would reflect a remarkably diverse portfolio career: manufacturing innovation, surveying, teaching, professional writing, public speaking, and ecological research. He modeled entrepreneurial independence before the modern gig economy existed.ABOUT PASSION STRUCK In Passion Struck, John R. S2 Ep 1810S2 Ep1810: TOUR FOR TUSKS Elephant Rescue, Rehabilitation & Conservation Documentary & Talk 3/13
TOURS for TUSKS is coming to The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art March 13 with a talk and a documentary about a rescued elephant and his keeper, their bond and why elephant rescue is so crucial due to poachers and climate change. The event highlights the rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation of India's elephants, featuring the film "My Sweet Paro" and meet-and-greets. Host Nanette Wiser spoke with Kartick Satyanarayan, the co-founder and CEO of Wildlife SOS, a leading conservation organization dedicated to protecting India’s wildlife. For more than 25 years, Kartick has worked to rescue animals from exploitation and provide them with lifelong care. Kartick helped lead the effort that eliminated India’s brutal “dancing bear” trade, and today much of his work focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating elephants from abusive conditions. Through specialized veterinary care and large protected habitats, Kartick and his team have rescued and rehabilitated more than 40 elephants from circuses, illegal captivity, and other forms of exploitation, giving them a chance to live with dignity and proper care. He is currently visiting St. Petersburg as part of the Tour for Tusks, sharing the story of these rescues and the ongoing work to protect elephants.Check out more events @ The James Museum. S2 Ep 1809S2 Ep1809: Car-Free Conversations with Domenico and Saumitra and guest Misty Botorff
In this episode of Car-Free Conversations, hosts Domenico and Saumitra sit down with Misty Botorff to explore the growth and revitalization of the Skyway Marina District in St. Petersburg, Florida—and how people can experience it without needing a car.Revitalizing the Skyway Marina DistrictMisty explains that the Skyway Marina District is both a neighborhood and a business association focused on revitalizing a once-underdeveloped corridor along 34th Street South. The district stretches roughly from Eckerd College to the water near Interstate 275 and is working to attract businesses, support local entrepreneurs, and build a vibrant community.Recent additions highlight the area’s growth, including the new Italian restaurant Circo Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant, the café The Buzz Cafe, and the unique vintage market Vintage Marche. The district also features well-known spots like Berlin’s Döner and the waterfront hangout Tiki Docks Skyway Bar + Grill.Connecting the District Without a CarA major focus of the conversation is the new Spark bus line operated by Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA). The route runs along 34th Street between Eckerd College and downtown, stopping at key points including Grand Central Station. The Spark line operates about every 15 minutes, making it easy for students and residents—especially Eckerd students—to reach downtown, transfer to other routes, or simply access nearby services like grocery stores and restaurants. Misty emphasizes that many people don’t use transit simply because they don’t know how it works, and PSTA has been actively educating businesses and residents about routes, apps, and rider support.Community Events and Local ArtThe district is also investing heavily in community programming. Through its volunteer committees, the organization hosts: Arts and crafts festivals throughout the year Local art showcases in partnership with Eckerd College Seasonal events and markets Community activities like monthly cornhole tournaments The historic St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church—the district’s only historically designated building—often hosts events on its grounds, including holiday celebrations and community gatherings.Future GrowthMisty says the district is still evolving and actively recruiting businesses that residents want most. Community surveys show demand for things like: An ice cream shop A flower shop Fitness studios or Pilates A brewery or taproom Pet services like doggy daycare New mixed-use development, including the SkyTown project, will add apartments and retail space, creating opportunities for these future businesses.Exploring the District Car-FreeThe episode closes with a reminder that visitors can reach the district without driving. Along with the Spark line, the nearby Skyway Trail offers a scenic route for cyclists and pedestrians, connecting riders to the marina and regional trail networks.Bottom line: The Skyway Marina District is quickly becoming one of St. Pete’s emerging neighborhoods—full of local businesses, art, events, and transit connections that make it easier than ever to explore without a car. 🚲🚌

Sunken Gardens in downtown St. Pete is an iconic treasure and in this episode, host Jennifer Tyson talks about NO MOW MARCH & the 3/28 annual ORCHID FEST! Spring is in the air, and new growth is popping up after our cold snaps! We fared well, thankfully, as our sunken garden is covered by a veritable blanket of historic live oaks and palms. 🦩Our stunning wall of bougainvillea is putting on a colorful show just as our camelias and Florida’s official state wildflower, Coreopsis, are popping with colorful blooms. Did you know that many of the dainty flowers some consider weeds popping up in Florida yards now are actually host plants for butterflies like the White peacock, Phaon crescent, Common buckeye, and more! Some of these native wildflowers are even edible with medicinal properties while providing important food sources for imperiled pollinators. 🦩That’s why Florida celebrates No Mow March, so we and the wildlife can enjoy our “freedom” lawns a little longer while benefiting the local ecosystems. Some great lawn-alternative groundcovers on display at Sunken Gardens are turkey tangle frog fruit and beach creeper. These true Florida plants thrive in full sun and sandy, dry soil. It doesn’t get lower maintenance than that! 🦩Interested in tropical blooms, too? We’ll have thousands of orchids for sale from vendors across Florida during our annual Orchid Festival on Sunday, March 28 from 10 am to 4pm. With orchid-related products for sale and a line-up of expert speakers, this flowery festival is a one-stop shop for all things orchid. 🦩Stay tuned for more news and gardening tips from Sunken Gardens! S2 Ep 1795S2 Ep1795: GARDENING in FLORIDA Hurricane Tree & Palm Prep Starts Now!
It's hard to believe that hurricane season is around the corner, but June 1 will soon be here. Theresa Badurek talks about how to prepare trees for hurricane season in Pinellas County. Badurek is an Urban Horticulture Agent/Master Gardener Program Leader and Certified Arborist FL-1307A for UF/IFAS Extension, Pinellas County.Prepare trees for hurricane season in Pinellas County by hiring a certified arborist to prune and thin canopies, removing dead or weak branches, and improving structure, ideally in late winter or early spring. Key actions include reducing wind resistance, clearing limbs 4-6 feet from roofs, and inspecting for decay. Pre-Season Tree Hardening (Months in Advance) Professional Inspection: Hire an ISA certified arborist to evaluate tree stability and identify hazards. Structural Pruning: Thin the inner canopy to allow wind to pass through, reducing the sail effect. Remove Deadwood: Clear all dead, diseased, or damaged limbs that can become projectiles. Reduce Weight: Trim back overly long or heavy branches, especially those hanging over homes or power lines. Clear Rooflines: Maintain at least 4 to 6 feet of clearance between trees and structures. Avoid Topping: Never "top" a tree; this creates weak, dangerous growth and makes trees more hazardous in future storms. Palm Tree Care hurricane cut only prune totally dead Do Not Over-prune: Avoid removing green fronds; only remove dead or brown fronds (hanging below 9 and 3 o'clock) to prevent weakening the tree. Spacing: Ensure palms are not crowded, as they handle winds better with adequate spacing. Specific Tree and Site Precautions Secure Young Trees: Stake newly planted trees using 2x4s and straps for support. Monitor Ficus: Do not remove the aerial roots of Ficus trees, as these help support the tree. Check Soil: Ensure trees are not in confined, shallow soil, which limits root growth and stability. As Storm Approaches Remove Loose Items: Remove or secure any potted plants, hanging baskets, or gardening tools that could be blown around. Do Not Prune Immediately Before: Avoid last-minute, heavy pruning, which stresses the tree just before high winds. Ensure all contracted tree work is performed by licensed and insured professionals familiar with Pinellas County's specific tree species.#theresabaudurek #gardeninginpinellas #uf/ifaspinellascounty #nanettewiser #hurricanecuts #palmtree #treepruning #hurricaneseasonprep #stpete #stpetefl #tampabay #radio #radiostpete #cityofstpete #dtsp #downtownstpete

S2 Ep 1793S2 Ep1793: PASSION STRUCK John R. Miles: Daniel Coyle on How to Flourish
Daniel Coyle on How to Flourish: Why Mattering is the Key to Building a Meaningful LifeIn a culture that relentlessly rewards speed, efficiency, and measurable achievement, many people are quietly asking a more fundamental question: how to flourish. Not how to accumulate more accolades or optimize every waking hour, but how to experience genuine vitality in the midst of responsibility and ambition. In this deeply insightful conversation, Daniel Coyle joins John R. Miles to explore that question through the lens of his latest book, Flourish: The Science of Building Thriving Teams. Drawing from years of research into elite military units, high performing organizations, and tightly knit communities, Daniel challenges the assumption that success alone leads to fulfillment. Instead, he reveals why mattering, shared meaning, and intentional presence form the true foundation of a flourishing life and why the environments we build together ultimately shape the aliveness we feel within. From High Performance to Feeling Unusually AliveDaniel draws an important distinction between groups that perform well and groups that feel alive. High performance can be measured through results, but aliveness is sensed through energy, responsiveness, and shared purpose. Flourishing teams display a dynamism that cannot be reduced to metrics alone. There is an attentiveness in how members listen to one another and a collective identity that strengthens rather than fractures under pressure. Whether examining elite military units or thriving local communities, Daniel shows that the common denominator is not perfection or constant success but a deep relational current that runs through the group. Performance may deliver results, but aliveness sustains them. The Power of Presence and Felt SignificanceAt the heart of flourishing lies attention. Daniel explains that when leaders and teammates offer genuine presence, they communicate something powerful without needing elaborate language. People begin to feel that their contributions carry weight and that their voice matters in shaping outcomes. This sense of felt significance goes beyond surface level connection and creates the psychological safety necessary for honest dialogue and shared risk taking. Presence slows the rush toward judgment and opens space for curiosity, and in that space trust begins to deepen. Flourishing environments are not built through grand gestures but through consistent, attentive engagement that signals to others that they are not interchangeable parts but essential participants. Why Mattering Is a Precondition for SuccessBelonging suggests inclusion, yet mattering goes further by affirming that the group would be diminished without you. Daniel illustrates how teams that consciously reinforce mattering create a culture where individuals move from compliance to commitment. When people sense that they are needed, they invest more fully, speak more openly, and approach challenges with shared responsibility. Mattering at work becomes the quiet engine behind collaboration, innovation, and resilience. It is not an abstract ideal but a practical foundation for group flow, because people who feel valued are more willing to align their efforts with collective goals.Explore More: The Ignited Life Newsletter If today’s episode sparked something in you, you’ll love The Ignited Life—our free Substack newsletter created to fuel your growth between episodes. S2 Ep 1792S2 Ep1792: Johnson Feasts on Home Cooking to Earn First Win at St. Pete 3-1-26; Post Race Press Conference
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Sunday, March 1, 2026) – Nikita Johnson earned his first INDY NXT by Firestone victory Sunday, winning his hometown Grand Prix of St. Petersburg after prevailing in a duel of talented teenagers.Johnson, from St. Petersburg, delivered his first victory in just his fourth career start in the INDYCAR development series. It also was the first INDY NXT victory for Cape Motorsports, which Johnson joined this offseason after a part-time foray last season in the series with HMD Motorsports.SEE: Race Results“I can’t thank the boys from Cape Motorsports enough and everyone from ECR who has been helping us,” Johnson said. “It’s a pretty amazing feeling to get my first win in INDY NXT and Cape’s first win in INDY NXT. I can’t wait to see all my friends and family.”Series rookie Johnson, 17, drove his No. 21 Cape Motorsports Powered by ECR entry to victory by .6990 of a second over pole sitter Max Taylor, 18, in the No. 28 Susan G. Komen car of Andretti Global. Rookie Tymek Kucharczyk rounded out the podium finishers in his first INDY NXT start by placing third in the No. 71 HMD Motorsports entry, 5.055 seconds behind Johnson.Andretti Global took three of the top five spots. Seb Murray placed fourth in the No. 27 Prosperity machine, while Lochie Hughes rounded out the top five in the No. 26 car.Johnson wasted no time asserting his command of this race, scheduled for 45 laps but halted on time after 55 minutes. He started second and used a bold, sweeping move to the outside of Taylor in Turn 1 at the start to grab a lead he would never relinquish.“It was pretty straight up,” Johnson said. “I reviewed some video from previous years on YouTube, the INDY NXT channel. I knew I wanted to get up front quickly, and I did just that. I went into Turn 1 and knew what he (Taylor) was going to do before he did it and just went around the outside. After that, I kept it pretty simple, tried to keep a nice gap.”Caution periods ended up being Johnson’s biggest foe besides Taylor. The race was slowed by four full-course yellows, but Johnson held off Taylor on each of the restarts.Perhaps Taylor’s best chance came on a restart on Lap 20. He tried the same move Johnson used to gain the lead on Lap 1, but his attempt at a sweeping, outside pass was unsuccessful.“All the restarts were pretty difficult,” Johnson said. “He (Taylor) caught on at one point, and I had throw in a little curve ball and change it up.”Taylor maintained pressure on Johnson for the entire race, never trailing by more than a second and keeping his car usually within six- or seven-tenths of the leader. But Taylor also never got close enough after restarts to mount a serious challenge to the race lead. The two teens traded blows over the closing laps. Johnson turned his quickest lap of the race on Lap 38, but Taylor countered with the speediest lap overall on Lap 39.“Good race overall, good points,” Taylor said. “Showed a lot of pace but just messed up on the start.“The restarts were very difficult to get right. Just kept trying to apply the pressure, trying different things. Probably could have had an opportunity to pass him there, but you live and you learn.”The next INDY NXT by Firestone race is the Grand Prix of Arlington on Sunday, March 15 on the streets of Arlington, Texas. #NXTIndycar #indycarNXT #nikitajohnson #gpstpete #tampabay #radio #radiostpete

S2 Ep 1790S2 Ep1790: FLORIDA POLITICS Understanding 2026 Races, Issues w/Tampa Bay Times Michael Van Sickler
News Director Nanette Wiser chats with Michael Van Sickler about his new role as Tampa Bay Times Politics Editor. The former Managing Editor of News & Engagement is no stranger to state, regional and local politics. We talk about the 2026 races, the candidates, the key issues and how you can keep track through responsible sources of what's happening in our community and beyond. Sign up for his newsletter and follow him on social media.Says Michael: "Ever since I was a kid, I was a politics junkie. It was a way for me to relate to my dad, and we’d spend hours at the dinner table talking Reagan, Bush and Clinton. My interest in politics no doubt led to my poli sci major in college and then a career in journalism. Even when my beat or job didn’t hinge on politics, it was never too far. I’ve been at the Times for more than 20 years. As a reporter, I’ve covered everything from suburban sprawl (there’s politics in that) to the mortgage fraud that fueled the Great Recession (that got pretty political). I covered St. Petersburg as the city hall reporter and Florida’s Capitol under Gov. Rick Scott . As an editor, I’ve run our news coverage during some of the most divisive times our nation has ever faced. Now I’m back reporting on all things politics. Local. State. Federal. Send me tips, rants or keen assessments. I’m on it." Got a tip?
