Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 249: How the Patriots match up against the Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers will present a much more difficult challenge to the New England Patriots than the New York Jets. They have a rising star at quarterback, a trio of great offensive skill players, one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, and a couple young stars in their secondary. So in which match-ups are the Patriots favored? And where can the Patriots try to focus their resources to control the game? Alec and Rich cover it all. Learn more about your ad choices. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 248: Patriots knock out the Jets
The New England Patriots were unstoppable against a New York Jets team that shouldn't have bothered leaving New Jersey. Mac Jones and the Patriots offense scored on 9 of their 10 drives, and the New England defense put up a top-10 worthy outing after a poor showing versus Dallas. So, now the question is: Is this Patriots team good? On one hand, they've been competitive against playoff teams and have one of the best point differentials in the league. On the other hand, their victories have come against the hapless Jets and the even-more hapless Houston Texans. Next week will be a real challenge, but Alec and Rich break down what the Patriots can actually take away from this monster victory. Learn more about your ad choices. Patriot Nation 142: TGIJW: Thank God It's Jets Week
Pat, Spags, and Keagan sit down to talk about the Cowboys week, and the fallout of the Patriots losing yet another close game. They discuss the coaching problems, as well as the performance problems on the field. What to do with N'Keal Harry, and who else might be on the trade block ahead of the week 8 trade deadline. They also talk about the Red Sox, who are now on the brink of elimination after looking like an unstoppable force early in the week. Luckily, our moods should all turn around, because it's Jets week, which should mean an easy victory for the Pats on Sunday! They end the show with 5 minutes of fantasy talk, and give some advice on how to survive this weekend's Bye-pocalypse. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 247: How the Patriots can repeat their victory over the Jets
Thanks to four interceptions from New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, the New England Patriots were able to win their first match-up pretty easily. The Patriots can't expect to get four turnovers again, so what can they learn from that match-up in order to get their third win of the year? The Jets offense still runs through two players, and their defense is still one of the worst in the league. That said, the Patriots defense is so riddled with injuries that they might not be in position to take advantage. Alec and Rich cover it all. Learn more about your ad choices. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 246: How the Cowboys outsmarted Bill Belichick
The New England Patriots are, like, five plays away from being undefeated. If Damien Harris doesn't fumble against the Miami Dolphins. If passes to Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith don't turn into 14 points for the New Orleans Saints. If the Patriots treated midfield as 4-down territory at the end of the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If the Patriots tried to score points before the half against the Dallas Cowboys. Or they didn't punt on 4th down at midfield in both the third quarter and in overtime. Or Jake Bailey's punt wasn't blocked. Or... Basically, the Patriots are a hair away from being considered "really good", but super small differences puts them in the "actually bad" category. And typically, the Patriots could have relied on Bill Belichick to coach the team to play above their weight class, like they did last year. So where is that Bill Belichick, that took a broken team to 7-9 in a bizarre season? Has he given up on the year? Alec and Rich break it all down. Learn more about your ad choices. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 245: How the Patriots can take down the Texans
The New England Patriots are about four turnovers away from being 4-0 this year, and yet they're 1-3. The problem is that they've dug themselves into a huge hole to start the year, but at least they know what they have to do to fix it (protect the ball!). Fortunately, with the Houston Texans hosting the Patriots in week 5, New England should be in prime position to have a rebound game. The Texans offense boasts old friend Brandin Cooks and not much else, while the defense has been abysmal. So what's the Patriots' blueprint to win? Alec and Rich cover it all. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 244: Patriots lose a close one to the Buccaneers
Bill Belichick giveth and Bill Belichick taketh away. In a masterclass of defensive scheming against Tom Brady and his trio of All Pro receivers, Belichick put the defense in the best possible position to succeed. Only for Belichick to flub away the game on the offensive side of the ball with cowardly decisions to punt on 4th and 2 before the half and to kick the near-impossible field goal at the end of the game instead of putting the ball in the hand of his rookie quarterback that was dealing all game. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 242: Patriots wiped out by the Saints
The Patriots had a pretty simple set of objectives against the Saints. Protect the ball. Stop Alvin Kamara Do those two things and the Patriots should have been able to win handily. Unfortunately, Kamara picked up over 100 yards and a score, Mac Jones threw three interceptions, Jake Bailey had a punt blocked, and all the bounces went the Saints way in blowout fashion. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 241: So, uh, are the Saints even good?
The New England Patriots are hoping to put together the first win streak of Mac Jones' career as they host the New Orleans Saints, and the Saints look ripe for demolition. There is no strong wide receiver on the roster with Michael Thomas on the reserves, and that means the entire offense is star running back Alvin Kamara. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 239: Mac Jones, Patriots try for first win of the year by beating the Jets
There is not a lot of star power on this New York Jets roster. One might say that makes them an easy target for the New England Patriots. One might also say that makes the Jets dangerous because they have nothing to lose. The Patriots are coming off a disappointing, yet inspiring loss to the Dolphins in Week 1, while the Jets looked hapless against the Panthers. The Jets lost their starting left tackle, their punter, their waterboy, and probably a few other thing along the way, and the Patriots are primed to take advantage. So how can the Patriots offense, led by Mac Jones, beat a Jets defense that's best unit is its defensive line? And how can the New England defense stop a Jets offense that only boasts one marquee player? Alec and Rich cover it all. Learn more about your ad choices. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 238: Patriots lose to the Dolphins, but the future is bright
The New England Patriots running backs were both responsible for keeping the Patriots in the game and for giving it away. While Damien Harris had a strong showing, his late fumble cost the Patriots a chance to win, while Rhamondre Stevenson's fumble led to his benching for the foreseeable future. According to Expected Points modeling, those fumbles combined to take an expected 8 points off the board, with the reversal of either play likely allowing the Patriots to win the game. That's brutal. And even with that, the future is bright. Mac Jones looked excellent, as did Nelson Agholor, Jonnu Smith, and Hunter Henry. The defense did a great job against a talented Dolphins offense, and they'll only get better as Dont'a Hightower shakes off the rust and Stephon Gilmore returns to the lineup. So, yes, the Patriots lost in week 1, but they're looking like they'll be able to compete for the whole season. Alec and Rich break it all down. Learn more about your ad choices. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 237: How the Patriots can beat the Dolphins in the 2021 opener
The New England Patriots are embarking on a new season and they will be facing a host of familiar faces with the Miami Dolphins. Led by head coach, and former Patriots defensive mind, Brian Flores, the Dolphins are stacked with former Patriots- from Adam Butler to Elandon Robert to Jason McCourty, which means they'll be ready for the Patriots. Will the Patriots be ready for the Dolphins? Mac Jones will lead a host of new faces in the Patriots' passing attack against one of the best secondaries in the entire league in a clear mismatch, but will Damien Harris and the New England rushing attack be able to take over the game on the ground against a weaker Dolphins defensive front? And can the Patriots secondary handle the Dolphins talent at receiver long enough for the pass rush to disrupt Tua Tagavailoa and the Miami passing attack? Alec and Rich break it all down. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 236: Mac Jones beats Cam Newton for starting job as Patriots make final roster cuts
The New England Patriots made their final roster cuts to create their opening roster and there was just one quarterback to make the team: first round rookie Mac Jones. No Cam Newton. No Brian Hoyer. Only Jones, who should be written in as the week 1 starter in permanent marker. Jones won the job outright with his consistency, growth, and leadership and should be the starter for a long time. As for the other positions on the roster, the Patriots kept an undrafted rookie free agent on the initial roster for the 18th straight year, the oft-maligned N'Keal Harry and Joejuan Williams made the team, and the defensive front seven is stacked with talent. Alec and Rich break it all down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Learn more about your ad choices.
