The New England Patriots running backs were both responsible for keeping the Patriots in the game and for giving it away. While Damien Harris had a strong showing, his late fumble cost the Patriots a chance to win, while Rhamondre Stevenson's fumble led to his benching for the foreseeable future. According to Expected Points modeling, those fumbles combined to take an expected 8 points off the board, with the reversal of either play likely allowing the Patriots to win the game. That's brutal. And even with that, the future is bright. Mac Jones looked excellent, as did Nelson Agholor, Jonnu Smith, and Hunter Henry. The New England Patriots made their final roster cuts to create their opening roster and there was just one quarterback to make the team: first round rookie Mac Jones. No Cam Newton. No Brian Hoyer. Only Jones, who should be written in as the week 1 starter in permanent marker. Jones won the job outright with his consistency, growth, and leadership and should be the starter for a long time. As for the other positions on the roster, the Patriots kept an undrafted rookie free agent on the initial roster for the 18th straight year, the oft-maligned N'Keal Harry and Joejuan Williams made the team, and the defensive front seven is stacked with talent.
