Julia Murmann & Kat Georgiadis are teammates on the Leaside Volleyball Club 18U Team, Youth National Team and this summer will represent Canada again with the Junior National Team! Julia Murmann is a defending 18U National Champion with Leaside and was last season's Nationals MVP. Julia will attend the University of Toronto next season. Kat represented Canada for the second season last summer. She was the starting libero on one of Canada's most successful youth teams finishing 2nd at the 2018 Girls NORCECA Continental Championship. Volleyball Legend Scott Koskie joined us to talk about his 13 year career with the National Team, being named captain for 6 of those seasons, his 10 year professional career in Spain, Austria, France, and Qatar, his career at the University of Manitoba where he won 2 National Championships, was a 3 time All-Canadian, National Player of the Year, and a University of Manitoba Athlete of the Year Since retiring Scott has been inducted into the Manitoba Volleyball Hall of Fame, assistant coach with the University of Manitoba Bisons, assistant coach with the Women’s National Team from 2010-2015 and Head Coach for Junior Women’s National Team. Scott is currently the Provincial High Performance Coach for Volleyball Manitoba. In 1995 Scott lead what may be the best CIS/USports team of all time! Beach National Team member Alex Russell joined us to discuss why he gave up his indoor pro career to join the Beach National Team. Canadian Adam Spragg joins us from Newcastle England where he is currently completing his masters at Northumbria University. Zeid Hamadeh joined the show to tell us about Pacific Elite Beach and all the exciting things they are up to. Zeid started playing volleyball in the Ottawa area before moving to the GTA. After winning an 18U Ontario Championship with the Durham Attack. He then went on to play varsity for the Western University Mustangs and University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. Zeid is currently working towards his masters degree in genetics after he completing his degree in medical sciences at Western. On the beach he won the Ontario Summer Games in 2016. McMaster Marauders Head Coach Dave Preston joined the show to discuss the program, culture, the Can Am Holiday Showcase, National Team and so much more! With McMaster Dave won six consecutive conference titles, and nine in total! Since Dave joined McMaster they have competed at 12 U SPORTS Championships. MAC has won two silver and four bronze medals at the national championship tournament between 2013 and 2018. Dave has spent two years as the head coach of the Canadian Junior Men’s National Team. Alberta Golden Bears Head Coach Brock Davidiuk joined the show to talk about the Can Am Holiday Showcase, the Golden Bears current season, his playing career, and how to train the setter. As a player Brock dominated Canadian Volleyball with back-to-back CCAA National Championships in 2002 and 2003, 2x First-All-Tournament Team at CCAA Nationals, CCAA Academic All-Canadian, CCAA Most Valuable Player of the National Championship, CCAA All-Canadian, CCAA Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year, 2005 Canada West and CIS Championships second team Canada West all-star in 2004, first team all-star and CIS All-Canadian in 2005, MVP of the CIS Championship. Davidiuk competed for Canada from 2004-12 where he was named Captain. Darby Taylor and the Brock Badgers have started the season 6-0! We had to chase him for a while, but we finally got Mike Plantinga to join the show! Payton Sproule took the time out of her busy training schedule to join us! Payton is an rising star in Ontario who has already verbally committed to the University of Central Arkansas before her senior year of high school. North Bay may not sound like a volleyball hot bed to some, but thanks to the wonderful community there Payton has met many role models through Norceca Beach Tour events, OVA Grand Slams and Volleyball Canada Beach Nationals. Payton tells us about what it was like growing up in the North Bay volleyball community, her role models, the NCAA recruiting process, and what's next as she enters her last year of high school before going to play D1 in the NCAA. Thanks to Grant O'Gorman for the hook up, we were able to meet with Mathias Berntsen of the Norway Beach Volley Vikings while he was in Edmonton! Mathias has played in over 30 FIVB events for Norway at the young age of 23. He has won two youth CEV events and 3 Top 5 results at FIVB Youth events. This is a big one! This week we are joined by USA Beach Superstar, Published Author, and Top Podcast Host BILLY ALLEN! Thanks to Friend of the Show Grant O'Gorman who helped schedule all of our international guests! Billy took the time to meet with us after winning the Bronze Medal at the Edmonton 3 Star. Billy has represented the USA on the FIVB Beach Tour over 30 times and played in over 100 AVP events, winning Seattle twice.
