Mart Tiisaar & Kusti Nolvak from Estonia took time out of their busy schedules at the Edmonton 3 Star to sit down with us and share how they compete on the World Tour without technically having a National Federation for Beach, why they went to the beach after playing indoor pro, who they train with, and lots of other fun facts! Shaun and Dave from the Beach Volleyball Academy in Port Stanley, ON joined Passin Dimes while they were at the OVA Grand Slam. Shaun and Dave have built an amazing beach program in Southwestern Ontario that has introduced hundreds of athletes to beach volleyball. Their energy and love for the sport is obvious every session they host in Port Stanley! Shaun and Dave passion for the sport has also lead them to host a Play with the Pros and Parents/Child Tournament. These two love the sport and are a huge part of the sport's growth in Ontario! We are very lucky to have international superstar Brandie Wilkerson join the show this week! Brandie and partner Heather Bansley are a top ranked team on the FIVB World Tour. Canadian Beach Superstar Aaron Nusbaum joins the show! Aaron has represented Canada at the Youth Worlds where he medalled twice, Norceca Tour also medalled twice including a tournament win in 2018, Gold Medalist at the Maccabiah Games, World Championships, and is in the running to be nominated to represent Canada at the 2019 Pan Am Games in Peru. Aaron is also an owner of One Volleyball Premier League The Magnes Spartans! Olympian, Superstar, and Super Friend of the show Ben Saxton makes his debut on Passin Dimes! He goes into detail on his volleyball family, CIS Championships, and playing over 15 years and 130 events for Canada on the beach! We also cover Ben's two businesses he started to grow volleyball on the west coast. The West Coast Beach Volleyball Society (https://www.wecobevo.com/) is an organization created to raise funds not only to develop an elite athlete environment for Western Canadians beach athletes to train and thrive on the West Coast, but also in community spirit, we are donating a percentage of all our funds raised to KidSport. His second project is The National Beach Volleyball League (https://nbvl.ca/) The NBVL’s mission is to cultivate a professional environment for both men’s and women’s Beach Volleyball in Canada through the development of professional leagues in major cities. How lucky are we?! Jesse Elser was at Volleyball Canada Youth Nationals supporting his brother Aaron before he headed to Gatineau for Team Canada tryouts. Erik Mattson joins Passin Dimes this week to discuss his amazing career, fashion advice and what he's up to now. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Volleyball Canada, Josh and Dallas were able to record a few guests at Indoor Youth Nationals in Toronto. We were so lucky to run into Erik Mattson who was there coaching his 16U team. For anyone not familiar with Erik he was a key member of possibly the best club team ever Toronto Blues. Went on to win a National Championship with the Alberta Golden Bears. From there he spent 4 years over seas playing professionally. Now Erik is giving back by coaching and will return to Alberta this fall to further his education and coach some kids. Becky Pavan joins the show! She shares all the details about being recruited to the NCAA and what her poor mailman went through, what it was like playing for both the indoor and beach National teams for Canada, and the joy and pressure of playing pro (especially in Poland).
