Kyrgios repeatedly was visited by a trainer to massage his right shoulder. The unseeded 27-year-old Australian hit 35 aces and pulled out the 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-2 win at Centre Court after more than three hours. He was much calmer and quieter than during and after his previous match against No. 4 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas. Kyrgios repeatedly argued with the chair umpire in that win and was later fined $4,000 for cursing aloud. He also was docked $10,000 after his first-round match. Tennis – Wimbledon – Wimbledon appealing fine from women’s tour over Russia ban The All England Club is appealing a fine levied by the WTA women’s professional tennis tour for banning Russian and Belarusian players from tournaments in Britain because of the war in Ukraine. The Lawn Tennis Association also is expected to appeal a financial penalty imposed by the WTA after no players from Russia or Belarus were allowed to take part in grass-court tuneup events last month at Eastbourne, Nottingham and Birmingham. All England Club CEO Sally Bolton says the club appealed its WTA fine and is “is still waiting to hear from” the ATP men’s tour. NHL – NHL Draft: The risk of attending and not getting selected The NHL draft in Montreal this week is being conducted in person for the first time since 2019 after the coronavirus pandemic forced the past two events to be held remotely. With prospects again in attendance, it opens the age-old question of whether it’s worth going for some at risk of not hearing their name called through the seven-round draft. Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane recalls almost giving up. He sat in the stands through 12-plus rounds over two consecutive summers before finally getting selected 166th overall by Calgary in the 2015 draft in Florida. The 2022 NHL Draft is Thursday and Friday. Montreal has the first pick, Detroit will select 8th, The Blackhawks do not have pick in the first round, they traded the 6th pick to Columbus in the Seth Jones trade. It was Haase’s fifth home run of the season and his second in the last three games. Miguel Cabrera also drove in a run for the Tigers, who improved their league-worst road record to 11-23 and split the two-game series. Rony García won his third consecutive start for Detroit. Gregory Soto pitched a perfect ninth for his 15th save in 17 opportunities. Evan Longoria had a first-inning home run for the Giants. Luis Rengifo hit a two-run homer and Mike Trout had an early RBI double as the Angels finished their disappointing nine-game homestand on a positive note because of their two-way superstar’s work on the mound. Ohtani yielded five singles and a walk while winning his fourth consecutive start. The AL MVP hasn’t allowed a run since the fifth inning of his brilliant outing at Boston’s Fenway Park. Cubs 8, Reds 3 – Contreras homers, Morel also goes deep as Cubs beat Reds 8-3 Willson Contreras homered, Christopher Morel also went deep and nailed a runner at the plate with a terrific throw from center field, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-3. Welch, St. Petersburg’s first Black mayor, has made a priority out of including such things as affordable housing and greater job opportunities along with Rays baseball. Welch said the goal is to choose a new redevelopment plan by year’s end. The Rays’ lease is up in 2027 and Welch said the new plan will include a stadium at the site. The person confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade wasn’t official. It was first reported by ESPN, which said the Knicks would also send the Pistons two second-round picks and cash. NCAAFB – ACC changing scheduling model for football in ’23 and beyond The Atlantic Coast Conference is going forward with a plan to change its football scheduling model, with the biggest change being the elimination of divisions. The new plan, adopted by the league’s athletic directors and faculty athletic representatives on Tuesday, will be what the league calls a 3-5-5 model and goes into effect with the 2023 season. All 14 of the ACC’s football members will have three permanent scheduling partners and play those schools each year. They’ll face the other 10 schools once every two years; five one year, five the next. NFL – AP sources: NFL insists on indefinite suspension for Watson The NFL insisted on an indefinite suspension while Deshaun Watson’s legal team argued there’s no basis for that punishment as both sides presented their cases in front of a retired judge in Delaware on Tuesday, two people in attendance told The Associated Press. The hearing will continue on Wednesday and Watson is scheduled to be there for the duration, according to the people who spoke on condition of anonymity because the hearing isn’t public. Former U.S. District Judge Sue Robinson, who was jointly appointed by the league and the NFL Players’ Association, will determine whether Watson violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy and whether to impose discipline. Entergy Completes Sale Of Palisades To Holtec International

Entergy has completed the sale of the now-offline Palisades nuclear power plant. The site has been sold to Holtec International, the company that will handle the plant’s decommissioning. Holtec’s Pat O’Brien tells WSJM News the outfit specializes in several nuclear technologies and identified a need for decommissioning services some years ago. “Really what we’re known for is we’re the worldwide leader in dry cask storage,” O’Brien said. “So, taking spent nuclear fuel and putting it in dry cask storage, and safely storing that at nuclear sites around the world.” So, what’s the timeline for the Palisades decommissioning? “The timeline for Palisades is about a 19 year timeline for decommissioning. Really the first three years, the target is to get all the spent fuel safely removed from the spent fuel pool and safely stored in dry cask storage.” After that, there will be a ten year pause and the decommissioning will be wrapped up over a six year period with demolition at the very end. O’Brien says Holtec will draw from a decommissioning trust fund maintained for Palisades. The reason for the ten year pause once the fuel is removed is so that trust fund can grow. Holtec has worked on decommissioning nuclear plants in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Colorado wins Stanley Cup over Tampa Bay – WSJM Morning Sports

NHL – National Hockey League – 2022 Stanley Cup Finals Last Night Colorado Avalanche 2, Tampa Bay Lightning 1 (COL Wins 4-2) Avalanche 2, Lightning 1 – Avalanche dethrone Lightning to win Stanley Cup for 3rd time The Colorado Avalanche have won the Stanley Cup after dethroning the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The Avalanche beat the Lightning 2-1 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final behind a goal and an assist from Nathan MacKinnon and the cup clinching goal from Artturi Lehkonen. Tampa Bay fell two victories short of becoming the NHL’s first three-peat champion since the early 1980s New York Islanders dynasty. Colorado’s core led by MacKinnon, captain Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen and longest-tenured player Erik Johnson finally got the job done after years of playoff disappointments. It’s the franchise’s third championship and first since 2001. Colorado Defenseman Cale Makar, who won the Norris Trophy, also wins the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the Stanley Cup playoffs. He’s only the third player to do that and first since Nicklas Lidstrom won both in 2002 for the Detroit Red Wings. NHL – Daly hands Stanley Cup to Avalanche in Bettman’s absence NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly presented the Stanley Cup to Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog in Commissioner Gary Bettman’s absence. Bettman previously tested positive for the coronavirus and was unable to produce enough negative results to get back to the series in time. It’s the first time someone other than Bettman has handed out the Cup and Conn Smythe trophy since Bettman became commissioner in the 1993 season.
