Furry Friends Friday with “Pepper” from Cass County Animal Control – Friday, June 17, 2022
It’s Furry Friends Friday, sponsored by The Mason Jar Cafe, featuring “Pepper” from Cass County Animal Control/Shelter! Meet Pepper! Found originally as a stray, poor Pepper was very lost and confused. Being so small and afraid, he at first would not let many people pet him. Since coming into our care, Pepper has slowly come out of his shell and is getting more comfortable as he learns his surroundings. Pepper would best fit in a home with no children as quick movements still frighten him. He does well around smaller dogs and has not been cat tested. Pepper enjoys being a little shadow to his person and being able to nap in someone’s lap. Pepper’s adoption fee is $65. Please reach out to Cass County Animal Control (323 M-62 North, Cassopolis, MI 49031; Phone 269-445-3701) to learn more about sweet little Pepper.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Warriors take NBA crown in Game 6 – WSJM Morning Sports
NBA – National Basketball Association – 2022 NBA Finals Last Night Golden State Warriors 103, Boston Celtics 90 (GSW Wins 4-2) Warriors 103, Celtics 90 – Warriors beat Celtics 103-90 to win 4th NBA title in 8 years The Golden State Warriors are NBA champions once again, topping the Boston Celtics 103-90 for their fourth title in the last eight seasons. Stephen Curry scored 34 points for the Warriors, who claimed the franchise’s seventh championship overall. And this one completed a journey like none other, after a run of five consecutive finals, then a plummet to the bottom of the NBA, and now a return to greatness just two seasons after having the league’s worst record. For Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala, it’s a fourth championship. The first three rings came in 2015, 2017 and 2018, when Golden State was dynastic and made five consecutive trips to the finals. Curry also won his first Finals MVP award. MLB – Major League Baseball Last Night Texas Rangers 3, Detroit Tigers 1 San Diego Padres 6, Chicago Cubs 4 Rangers 3, Tigers 1 – Duran hits bases-clearing triple in 9th, Texas beats Tigers Ezequiel Duran hit a three-run triple with two out in the ninth inning to give the Texas Rangers a 3-1 win over the Detroit Tigers. Tigers closer Gregory Soto loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter before Duran hit a ball just inside first base and into the right-field corner. All three runners scored, giving Soto his second blown save of the season. Dennis Santana (3-2) picked up the win with a scoreless eighth inning, and Joe Barlow pitched the ninth for his 12th save. Soto’s collapse, which led to Detroit’s fifth straight loss, wasted seven scoreless innings from Detroit starter Beau Brieske. Padres 6, Cubs 4 – Joe Musgrove stars as Padres beat lowly Cubs 6-4 Joe Musgrove pitched seven effective innings in his third straight win, and the San Diego Padres handed the Chicago Cubs their 10th consecutive loss with a 6-4 victory. Musgrove permitted two runs and five hits, struck out a season-high nine and walked one. The 6-foot-5 right-hander has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his 12 starts this year. San Diego improved to 7-2 in its last nine games with its first four-game series sweep of Chicago since Aug. 16-19, 2010, at Wrigley Field. Burakovsky ended it after the Avalanche failed to score on a power play that began late in regulation when three-time champ Patrick Maroon put the puck over the glass. Burakovsky is one of only two Avalanche players who have won the Cup. The game likely wouldn’t have even reached OT if not for big penalty kills by the Avalanche, who were 3 for 3 against Tampa Bay’s potent power play. The final kill featured a crucial save by goaltender Darcy Kuemper and a series of clears by Norris Trophy finalist defenseman Cale Makar. NHL – Bettman says NHL projected to set revenue record this season NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says the league is projecting record revenue this season. Bettman at his annual state of the league address before the Stanley Cup Final estimated revenue will surpass $5.2 billion. The league generated $4.6 billion in the last normal full season in 2018-19. Bettman cited a significant uptick in scoring leading to high ratings and more interest in the game. The increase also stems from new U.S. media rights deals with ESPN and Turner Sports that went into effect this season. The stakes will be equally high for the Celtics, who will try to force a Game 7. Celtics star Jayson Tatum said they’re optimistic, given how they’ve had Game 7 wins in the two prior playoff series. Cease improves to 10-0 against Detroit – WSJM Morning Sports
MLB – Major League Baseball Last Night Chicago White Sox 5, Detroit Tigers 1 San Diego Padres 12, Chicago Cubs 5 White Sox 5, Tigers 1 – Cease improves to 10-0 against Tigers in 5-1 White Sox win Dylan Cease allowed one run in five innings to remain unbeaten in 10 decisions against Detroit, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Tigers 5-1. Cease allowed one unearned run on seven hits and a walk. He struck out eight, while improving to 10-0 with a 1.91 ERA in 11 career starts against the Tigers. He’s the first pitcher to win his first 10 decisions against an opponent since Jamie Moyer started 10-0 against the Marlins in 2006-08. Andrew Vaughn had four hits and Luis Robert drove in a pair of runs for the White Sox. Padres 12, Cubs 5 – Voit homers, drives in 5 as Padres rally past Cubs 12-5 Luke Voit hit a two-run homer and a three-run double as the San Diego Padres rallied from a five-run deficit to hand the Chicago Cubs their eighth straight loss, 12-5. The Padres trailed 5-0 when Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks was pulled after allowing a double to Jake Cronenworth to start the sixth inning. Voit homered off reliever Chris Martin to spark a four-run sixth, and his double off Mychal Givens gave the Padres the lead for good at 7-5 and highlighted a six-run seventh. The Padres have won six of eight. Willson Contreras homered twice, drove in three runs and scored three times on a 3-for-4 night for the Cubs. Today Chicago White Sox (Velasquez 2-3) at Detroit (Faedo 1-2), 1:10 p.m. WSJM/WCSY 12:50 San Diego (Weathers 0-0) at Chicago Cubs (Kilian 0-0), 8:05 p.m. NHL – National Hockey League – 2022 Stanley Cup Finals Tonight Tampa Bay Lightning at Colorado Avalanche, 8:00 p.m. (Game 1) NHL – Stanley Cup Final pits Lightning vs. high-scoring Avalanche The Stanley Cup Final is a showdown between the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning and the high-scoring Colorado Avalanche. Colorado is averaging a playoff high 4.61 goals a game. Tampa Bay’s 2.41 goals against is the lowest of any team that made it past the first round. The Lightning know from prior postseason runs how to adjust their style of play for their opponent. This series is another test of containing a team that can fly up and down the ice and fill the net. NHL – Signs Point to Lightning star returning for Cup Final Game 1 Indications are Brayden Point will return for the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final at the Colorado Avalanche. Point has missed the past month after injuring his right leg in Game 7 of the first round against Toronto. Coach Jon Cooper says things are trending toward Point playing in this series opener. Point took part in the Lightning’s final full team practice before Game 1 skating like he was never injured. He was Tampa Bay’s leading goal-scorer in each of the past two Cup runs. NHL – Knights hire Cassidy Bruce Cassidy has been hired to coach the Vegas Golden Knights a week after being fired by the Boston Bruins. Cassidy becomes the Golden Knights’ third coach. He replaces Peter DeBoer, who was fired after Vegas missed the playoffs for the first time in its five-year history. Cassidy had a 245-108-46 record and led the Bruins for the playoffs for six straight seasons. He was fired on June 6, a month after the Bruins lost a seven-game first-round series to Carolina. Golf – McIlroy questions competitive desire of players in LIV Golf Rory McIlroy says he was wrong about his prediction in February that the Saudi-backed rival golf league was “dead in the water.” He says that’s because he took at face value players like Dustin Johnson who said they were staying on the PGA Tour. McIlroy also described the LIV Golf league as a “pre-Champions Tour” circuit because of the ages of those interested. He says their best days are probably behind them. But he remains curious why younger players like Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed would go over. McIlroy says speaking for himself, at 33 he feels his best days are ahead. NBA – National Basketball Association – 2022 NBA Finals Thursday Golden State Warriors at Boston Celtics, 9:00 p.m. (GSW Leads 3-2) WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association Tonight Phoenix Mercury at Indiana Fever, 7:00 p.m. WNBA – WNBA star Griner’s Russia detention extended for third time U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner will remain in Russian custody through at least July 2 after her detention was extended for a third time, Russian state-run media has reported. The report gave no timeline for Griner’s trial, but cited a top Russian diplomat as saying that she will not be considered for detainee swaps until her case has been investigated. The 31-year-old WNBA center was arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling after Russian airport authorities claimed in February to have found cannabis products in her luggage. Her supporters have expressed concern that Moscow will use her as a bargaining chip am

The 31-year-old WNBA center was arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling after Russian airport authorities claimed in February to have found cannabis products in her luggage. Her supporters have expressed concern that Moscow will use her as a bargaining chip am
