Colorado wins Stanley Cup over Tampa Bay – Monday Morning Sports Update

NHL – National Hockey League – 2022 Stanley Cup Finals Last Night Colorado Avalanche 2, Tampa Bay Lightning 1 (COL Wins 4-2) Avalanche 2, Lightning 1 – Avalanche dethrone Lightning to win Stanley Cup for 3rd time The Colorado Avalanche have won the Stanley Cup after dethroning the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The Avalanche beat the Lightning 2-1 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final behind a goal and an assist from Nathan MacKinnon and the cup clinching goal from Artturi Lehkonen. Tampa Bay fell two victories short of becoming the NHL’s first three-peat champion since the early 1980s New York Islanders dynasty. Colorado’s core led by MacKinnon, captain Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen and longest-tenured player Erik Johnson finally got the job done after years of playoff disappointments. It’s the franchise’s third championship and first since 2001. Colorado Defenseman Cale Makar, who won the Norris Trophy, also wins the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the Stanley Cup playoffs. He’s only the third player to do that and first since Nicklas Lidstrom won both in 2002 for the Detroit Red Wings. NHL – Daly hands Stanley Cup to Avalanche in Bettman’s absence NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly presented the Stanley Cup to Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog in Commissioner Gary Bettman’s absence. Bettman previously tested positive for the coronavirus and was unable to produce enough negative results to get back to the series in time. It’s the first time someone other than Bettman has handed out the Cup and Conn Smythe trophy since Bettman became commissioner in the 1993 season. After pinch hitter Rougned Odor struck out, Cedric Mullins cut it to 4-3 with a sacrifice fly. Graveman struck out Trey Mancini, and the White Sox came away with the win after losing four straight. Cubs 6, Cardinals 5 – F/10 – Cubs overcome 5-run deficit to beat Cards 6-5, Flaherty hurt Willson Contreras hit a tiebreaking single in the 10th inning to drive in his third run of the game, and the Chicago Cubs overcame a five-run deficit to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5. NBA – Pistons draft Ivey at No. 5 and acquire No. 13 pick Duren The Detroit Pistons have selected Purdue’s Jaden Ivey with the No. 5 overall pick in the NBA draft. Detroit’s rebuilding plan should get a boost with the addition of the dynamic player. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Ivey can play point or shooting guard. The busy team acquired Memphis center Jalen Duren, who was drafted No. 13 overall by Charlotte and traded to New York. Detroit also added Knicks guard Kemba Walker in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick it acquired the previous day. The Pistons added Italian guard Gabriele Procida, who shot 38.3% on 3-pointers for Bologna. NBA – Chicago Bulls take Arizona guard Dalen Terry at No. 18 The Chicago Bulls drafted Arizona guard Dalen Terry with the No. 18 pick, adding size and versatility in the backcourt as they try to take another step after making a big jump to reach the playoffs for the first time in five years. The 6-foot-7, 195-pound Terry averaged 8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.2 steals as a sophomore in coach Tommy Lloyd’s first season. Owning a 7-foot wingspan, he can guard multiple spots. And on offense, he can play on or off the ball. Chicago did not have a second-round pick as it was forfeited for a tampering violation. The Tigers and their league-worst offense scored five or more runs in consecutive games for the first time this season. Detroit had lost six straight before winning 14-7 Saturday. Meet Pepper! – Furry Friends Friday

Furry Friends Friday is brought to you by The Mason Jar Cafe! In the Heart of the Benton Harbor Arts District. Local, Organic, Farm Fresh! Meet Pepper! Found originally as a stray, poor Pepper was very lost and confused. Being so small and afraid, he at first would not let many people pet him. Since coming into our care, Pepper has slowly come out of his shell and is getting more comfortable as he learns his surroundings. Pepper would best fit in a home with no children as quick movements still frighten him. He does well around smaller dogs and has not been cat tested. Pepper enjoys being a little shadow to his person and being able to nap in someone’s lap. Pepper’s adoption fee is $65. Please reach out to Cass County Animal Control (323 M-62 North, Cassopolis, MI 49031; Phone 269-445-3701) to learn more about sweet little Pepper.    See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
