Naurato was on Pearson’s staff last season after he was a player development consultant with the Detroit Red Wings for three seasons. He was a forward for the Wolverines and played minor league hockey for four years. Golf – PGA – Kim arrives on PGA Tour with 61 to win Wyndham Championship Joohyung Kim is the second-youngest PGA Tour winner since World War II. The 20-year-old South Korean who goes by “Tom” made a name for himself at the Wyndham Championship. Kim shot 61 and captured his first PGA Tour title by five shots. That makes him an instant PGA Tour member and now he’s eligible for the FedEx Cup playoffs that start next week. This time, Jeimer Canderlario led off with a double before Rogers retired the next two batters. Jonathan Schoop followed with a dribbler down the third-base line for a single that put runners at the corners. Reyes then hit a drive over the head of right fielder Nomar Mazara to win it. Mazara got close to the wall chasing the ball and let the carom bounce past him as both runners scored easily. Rockies 6, White Sox 5 – Díaz, Rockies rally off Graveman in 9th, stun White Sox 6-5 Elias Díaz hit a two-run single off Kendall Graveman in the ninth inning, and the Colorado Rockies overcame the loss of starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela to beat the Chicago White Sox 6-5. Defensively, the Lions drafted Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchison with the second overall pick and re-signed Charles Harris after a 7 1/2-sack season in an effort to improve a pass rush that ranked 30th in sacks. NFL – NFL finance group supports Broncos sale to Walmart heir The NFL finance committee is unanimously recommending the league owners approve the proposed $4.65 billion sale of the Denver Broncos to the heir of the Walmart fortune. Team owners will gather Aug. 9 to vote on the sale. Twenty-four yes votes are needed among the 32 teams to approve the sale which is the largest for a sports team anywhere in the world. The ownership group led by former Walmart chairman Rob Walton won the bidding for the team that’s been run by the Pat Bowlen Trust for several years. NCAAFB – Big Ten – Old-guy quarterbacks could give Big Ten different look Sean Clifford and Tanner Morgan first met on a seventh-grade football field. They’re final matchup could come Oct. 22 when Minnesota visits Penn State. They may be the two oldest quarterbacks in the Big Ten. The 24-year-old Clifford and 23-year-old Morgan are still trying to lead Penn State and Minnesota to division titles. But they are part of a growing trend among conference teams. The Padres led 3-2 going into the ninth and brought on closer Taylor Rogers, who gave up a one-run lead in the ninth on Tuesday night in a game San Diego eventually won in the 10th. This time, Jeimer Canderlario led off with a double before Rogers retired the next two batters. Jonathan Schoop followed with a dribbler down the third-base line for a single that put runners at the corners. Reyes then hit a drive over the head of right fielder Nomar Mazara to win it. Mazara got close to the wall chasing the ball and let the carom bounce past him as both runners scored easily. Rockies 6, White Sox 5 – Díaz, Rockies rally off Graveman in 9th, stun White Sox 6-5 Elias Díaz hit a two-run single off Kendall Graveman in the ninth inning, and the Colorado Rockies overcame the loss of starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela to beat the Chicago White Sox 6-5. Senzatela, making his second start since returning from a shoulder injury, led 3-2 in the seventh when Leury García hit a comebacker off the pitcher’s left shin that rolled away for a single. After Lucas Gilbreath blew the lead, Graveman walked Colorado’s first three batters in the ninth. Robert Stephenson pitched a perfect ninth. In the offseason, the Lions made a conscious effort to improve their passing game. By signing wide receiver DJ Chark in free agency and using the 12th overall pick in the draft on Alabama wideout Jameson Williams — who starts camp on the non-football injury list — Detroit is hoping to stretch defenses. Defensively, the Lions drafted Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchison with the second overall pick and re-signed Charles Harris after a 7 1/2-sack season in an effort to improve a pass rush that ranked 30th in sacks. NFL – Quinn says he’s on board as rebuilding Bears begin practices Chicago Bears defensive end Robert Quinn joined the rest of the team on the practice field for the first time under new coach Matt Eberflus after missing all offseason voluntary and mandatory work. Quinn says he doesn’t expect or want to be traded, as the rumors suggested all offseason. This doesn’t mean the Bears are without controversy at the start of training camp. Linebacker Roquan Smith wants a new contract and was placed on the physically unable to perform list. Smith was at practice, just not taking part. Eberflus doesn’t want to reveal the injury that landed Smith on the PUP list, assuming there is one. Smith was at all the offseason practices and did not have an injury then. NFL – NFL finance group supports Broncos sale to Walmart heir The NFL finance committee is unanimously recommending the league owners approve the proposed $4.65 billion sale of the Denver Broncos to the heir of the Walmart fortune. Team owners will gather Aug. 9 to vote on the sale. Twenty-four yes votes are needed among the 32 teams to approve the sale which is the largest for a sports team anywhere in the world. The ownership group led by former Walmart chairman Rob Walton won the bidding for the team that’s been run by the Pat Bowlen Trust for several years. NCAAFB – Big Ten – Old-guy quarterbacks could give Big Ten different look Sean Clifford and Tanner Morgan first met on a seventh-grade football field. They’re final matchup could come Oct. 22 when Minnesota visits Penn State. They may be the two oldest quarterbacks in the Big Ten. The 24-year-old Clifford and 23-year-old Morgan are still trying to lead Penn State and Minnesota to division titles. But they are part of a growing trend among conference teams. At least nine conference schools are expected to open the season with the same quarterbacks that finished last season. NCAAFB – C-USA’s state of transition: 6 of 11 schools in final year Conference USA is in a state of transition, with six of its 11 football teams going into their last seasons in the league. Western Kentucky coach Tyson Helton was a freshman quarterback when Houston won the first C-USA football title in 1996. He’s now going into his fourth season with the Hilltoppers, who are one of five teams that will be staying. He says the conference has recreated itself many times and become stronger every time.
