Flick Pick is a podcast about movies. In today’s episode, Andrew Green reviews Orphan: First Kill. It’s a new movie in theaters. Orphan: First Kill is a prequel to Orphan, a 2009 horror film. The first movie is about an orphan from Estonia who is adopted by an American family. The big twist at the end is that the psychotic little Esther is, in fact, NOT an orphan or even a little girl. She’s a 33-year-old woman with a hormonal disorder that makes her look like a child. Now, in Orphan: First Kill, we learn more about Esther’s origins. In this new movie, Esther infiltrates another family. They also got the same actress to play Esther as they did for the 2009 film, and they use digital de-aging techniques to have her reprise the role here. Just for the heck of it, Andrew reviews Orphan: First Kill in this episode, but also reviews the original Orphan, which he loves. Jenkins says he still can’t be sure if he’ll be traded, though it will be the second straight start for the team’s 2021 second-round draft pick. That led to last week’s announcement of a seven-year rights deal with Fox, NBC and CBS that will see the conference receiving at least $1 billion a year. In 2020, the SEC sold the second package of football and basketball to the Walt Disney Company, making ESPN/ABC the home of SEC Football. The 10-year deal, starting in 2024, is worth at least $3 billion and is an addition to the original 20-year, $2.25-billion agreement that began in 2014. The increased revenues led to the additions of Texas and Oklahoma in 2025. NHL – Long-term victims of car crashes win key Michigan decision The Michigan appeals court has issued a major ruling affecting long-term victims of car crashes. The court says changes in auto insurance law can’t be applied retroactively to people who were severely injured before summer 2019. It’s a victory for people who are still recovering and their care providers. For decades, people injured in crashes were entitled to payment for “all reasonable charges” related to care and rehabilitation. But the new law sets a fee schedule and a cap on reimbursements not covered by Medicare. It had sudden, drastic consequences for people needing long-term care for crashes before June 11, 2019, and the providers of those services. The jurors who returned the verdict Wednesday agreed with Vanessa Bryant and her attorneys that her privacy was invaded when they took and shared photos of the remains of Kobe Bryant and their 13-year-old daughter Gianna. Vanessa Bryant tearfully testified during the 11-day trial that news of the photos compounded her grief after losing her husband and daughter. County attorneys argued that the photos were necessary to assess the scene. NCAASB – Michigan’s Hutchins retires as NCAA softball victory leader Carol Hutchins has retired after 38 seasons as Michigan’s softball coach after winning a record number of games. The school made the announcement Wednesday, signaling the end of a career that included 1,707 wins. Bonnie Tholl was promoted to lead the program after she serving as Hutchins’ top assistant for 29 years. Hutchins won a national title in 2005 and led the Wolverines to the NCAA championship game in 2015. The Giants survived a bases-loaded threat in the ninth. Evan Longoria homered for the Giants, who won their eighth straight interleague game on the road. Rodón allowed one run on five hits and struck out 10 without walking a batter. He is 4-0 in his last five starts with a 1.44 ERA and has now recorded eight double-digit strikeout games this season. Drew Hutchison (1-7) took the loss, allowing one run on four hits and two walks in five innings. No precipitation fell for more than three hours before the game was called following a delay of 2 hours, 56 minutes. Play never began as the groundskeepers kept the tarp on the infield from Saturday night. The game has been rescheduled for Sept. 15, a mutual off-day, at Progressive Field. It was the Guardians’ 12th postponement this season, 10 of them at home. Cleveland has played an MLB-high 10 doubleheaders. Four of Chicago’s five postponements in 2022 have been against Cleveland. Brewers 5, Cubs 2 – Keston Hiura homers twice as Brewers beat Cubs 5-2 Keston Hiura homered twice and drove in three runs, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 5-2 to salvage the finale of their weekend series. It’s a difficult play for catchers, who aren’t allowed to block the plate without possession of the ball. It’s also a difficult play for umpires, who have to make a judgment call that’s got plenty of grey area. The only difference this year is he won’t be going to the Tour Championship as the No. 1 seed with a two-shot head start. No matter. Cantlay took advantage of a great break on the 17th hole when his tee shot bounced over a bunker and into the fairway. That set up a short birdie and a one-shot lead. He made par on the last for a one-shot win over Scott Stallings. Masters champion Scottie Scheffler tied for third and moves back to the No. 1 seed. Golf – Tom Weiskopf, major champion and golf course architect, dies Major champion and golf course architect Tom Weiskopf has died of pancreatic cancer. His wife says Weiskopf died Saturday at their home in Big Sky, Montana. Weiskopf’s contributions to golf go far beyond his 16 PGA Tour wins and his British Open title at Troon in 1973. He was blunt and accurate when he worked as a TV analyst. And he was equally successful as a golf course architect. Weiskopf was diagnosed with cancer in December 2020. It’s a difficult play for catchers, who aren’t allowed to block the plate without possession of the ball. It’s also a difficult play for umpires, who have to make a judgment call that’s got plenty of grey area. The Colts could have won it with a 2-point conversion but Jack Coan’s pass fell incomplete with 38 seconds left. Detroit quarterbacks David Blough and Tim Boyle split the snaps as Jared Goff took the day off following two joint practices against the Colts earlier this week. Blough and Boyle each threw a TD pass. Coan, an undrafted rookie, closed it out with the 26-yard scoring pass to Samson Nacua but couldn’t convert on Indy’s final play. Tonight Atlanta Falcons at New York Jets, 8:00 p.m. Golf – PGA – Patrick Cantlay wins another thriller at BMW Championship Patrick Cantlay is a winner again at the BMW Championship in another thriller. The only difference this year is he won’t be going to the Tour Championship as the No. 1 seed with a two-shot head start. No matter. Cantlay took advantage of a great break on the 17th hole when his tee shot bounced over a bunker and into the fairway. That set up a short birdie and a one-shot lead. He made par on the last for a one-shot win over Scott Stallings. Masters champion Scottie Scheffler tied for third and moves back to the No. 1 seed. Golf – Tom Weiskopf, major champion and golf course architect, dies Major champion and golf course architect Tom Weiskopf has died of pancreatic cancer. His wife says Weiskopf died Saturday at their home in Big Sky, Montana. Weiskopf’s contributions to golf go far beyond his 16 PGA Tour wins and his British Open title at Troon in 1973. He was blunt and accurate when he worked as a TV analyst. And he was equally successful as a golf course architect. Weiskopf was diagnosed with cancer in December 2020.
