7 Tools every Father needs w/Kent Evans EP 433
Kent Evans is the Executive Director and co-founder of Manhood Journey, a ministry that helps fathers become disciple-makers. After a twenty-year career as a business leader, he embarked on biblical Fatherhood ministry projects. He's appeared on television, radio, web outlets and podcasts. He's spoken at parenting and men's events. His first book, Wise Guys: Unlocking Hidden Wisdom from the Men Around You, was written to help men learn how to find mentors and wise counsel. Learn more at https://manhoodjourney.org/ or https://fatheronpurpose.org/ THE TOOLS TOOL #1: TRUST GOD "If you're headed down the path of being a godly dad, you won't get too far without something guiding your direction. You're gonna need a true north. Trusting God is the first tool you need in your pack." TOOL #2: KNOW SCRIPTURE TOOL #3: PRAY FERVENTLY "The more you trust God and the more you know His Word, the more you realize you need Him. You can't do this alone. You need help. Reliance on God requires communication with God. It's a two-way transmission that never stops." TOOL #4: BUILD RELATIONSHIPS "You're not built to go through this life alone. Forces are waging war against you. For you to have the tool of building relationships, you'll need to head these relationship killers off at the pass— PRIDE: Self-focus is so subtle you often don't see it until it's too late CULTURE: You're told real men keep silent–if you talk, you're the odd-man-out COMPETITION: You compete all the time and it's exhausting." TOOL #5: SERVE OTHERS "When we serve out of duty, we're doing it begrudgingly. We do it because we have to. When we're serving from a place of devotion, we're serving because we care about the other person. We do it because we choose to. When we serve from a heart of delight, we're actually, looking forward to serving. We do it because we get to." TOOL #6: STEWARD RESOURCES "The Godly dad understands everything he has is not his own. His money, time, family, possessions, influence. These are all gifts that must be stewarded well." TOOL #7: MAKE DISCIPLES "The Godly dad makes disciples. There are two places where you should be discipling others." www.meninthearena.org Men in the Arena Books and Swag Support the Podcast
Strong Men Dangerous Times: Part 4 EP 432
The DESCENT is LEADING COURAGEOUSLY because it is the functional as well as foundational component of manhood. Every year more people die on the DESCENT than the climb. SERVANT (1 Timothy 3:1, and Acts 20:28) I find true joy in serving others. My family would say that I am a willing servant. TEACHER (1 Timothy 3:2 and Titus 1:9) I regularly share my Christian beliefs. I often share with others what I have learned in the Bible. LEADER (1 Timothy 3:4 and Titus 1:6) I consistently lead by Joshua 24:15, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." My wife trusts my spiritual leadership. SELFLESS (Titus 1:7) I live by C.S. Lewis' quote that, "Humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself less." I am willing to listen and adjust if someone's idea is better than mine. Are You in a Season of Obscurity? w/ Scott Silverii EP 401
Many of us have experienced being in a season of obscurity. Maybe we are in it right now. What is God doing in us in this season? You are challenged to think about the fact that he is activating your anointing. Dr. Scott Silverii is a son of the Living God. Thankful for the gift of his wife, Leah, they share seven kids, a French bulldog named Bacon and a micro-mini goldendoodle named Biscuit. A highly decorated, twenty-five year law enforcement career promptly ended in retirement when God called Scott out of public service and into HIS service. The "Chief" admits that leading people to Christ is more exciting than the twelve years he spent undercover, sixteen years in SWAT, and five years as chief of police combined. Scott has earned a Master of Public Administration and a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology. Education and experience allow for a deeper understanding in ministering to the wounded, as he worked to break free from his own past pain and abuse. In 2016, Scott was led to plant a church. Exclusive to online ministry, Five Stones Church.Online was born out of the calling to combat the negative influences reigning over social media. Scott's alpha manhood model for heroes is defined by, "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love." (1 Corinthians 16:13-14) Scott and Leah love the Lord and the passion He's placed on their hearts for ministering to people. An experienced speaker, mentor and confidential accountability partner, Scott is available for workshops, conferences and churches. He and Leah operate a nonprofit Christian publishing house that helps people share their stories with the world. Contact Five Stones Press for more information. Overcoming Tragedy and Adversity EP 392
Aaron Sullivan is an Average Joe from Bennington, VT who has overcome mass tragedy and adversity. From the death of his family and obesity he has endured and with courage has overcome. His goal is to reach the young men that are lost and either being the person to listen to them or getting them connected with an older/seasoned man that can listen and guide them. Aaron was born into a hurting family. His parents had dealt with the loss of their first-born son and one of their only supports within a few months of each other. He played sports in school but stopped mid-high school when his friends convinced him to check out the computer classes and that skill set took off. Even attended the Skills USA competition for the classes. Now he am a happily married to his best friend, which is a funny story. And the Lord blessed them with the children they have prayed for. Aaron prayed for a son to carry on the Sullivan name and Stacie prayed for a little girl. From Aaron: I am no expert in any areas, I know I joked around when I was younger being a jack of all trades, but a master of none. I tend to learn or take in knowledge to have tools that I may need for any given moment. If anything, I can bring to the podcast is an example of hope and the Lord's grace. Due to the fire, I had tried to fill the void with everything and anything, BUT God's grace was there and protected me against my poor choices. And when you feel like you are so far from Him, He has this way of being right there even when all you expect is His back facing you, but He is there with arms wide open for you. Boots on the Ground Moment: Grab a battle buddy and have him expose the areas in your life so that these things do not consume you. www.meninthearena.org Men in the Arena Books and Swag Support the Podcast Contact us.
