Practice hospitality. —Romans 12:13 (NIV) "When you open your home to strangers, you are opening your home to the Lord Jesus." —Ray Pritchard Man of Honor Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. Getting Back Up After Being Hit by a Train w/ Matt Hughes EP 475

What do you do when life knocks you down? UFC fighter Matt Hughes joined us to tell his story of perseverance despite difficult circumstances. Matt Hughes is widely considered among the greatest fighters in the history of MMA. He is a two-time UFC Welterweight Champion, UFC Hall of Fame inductee, and NJCAA Hall of Fame inductee. Matt ended his UFC career 45-9. During his tenures in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Hughes put together two separate six-fight winning streaks, defeated all the available opposition in the welterweight division, and defended the belt a then-record seven times. In May 2010, Hughes became the eighth inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame. During his reign, Hughes was considered the #1 pound-for-pound mixed martial artist in the world. He was also regarded by many as one of the greatest welterweight fighters of all time, as well as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in the sport's history. In 2008, Hughes published his autobiography, 'Made in America,' which made the New York Times bestseller list. I love this part, "Hughes has no nickname, although because of his successes against Gracie Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners such as Royce Gracie, Renzo Gracie, Ricardo Almeida, and Matt Serra, people often refer to him as "the Gracie Killer". How will you Finish this Life? Episode 464

If done right a man's greatest years are his final years, when he can enjoy the benefits of wisdom gained over a lifetime ascent up the mountain of God. It's in his twilight that a man's voice ech-oes most powerfully to the younger generations. Proverbs 17:6 reminds us of the truth that, "Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children." If you've passed the baton, take it back. Finish your life strong. Life is more than the hike out of a scorching canyon and noon. It's about those moments at the truck over an ice cold drink with someone you love—after that we learn the joy of a life well lived. There are finishes and there are strong finishes. They are not the same. Sometimes a finish is a wrong finish. A divorce is a wrong finish. A suicide is a wrong finish. Getting fired from your job for reasons you could have avoided is a wrong finish. To live selfishly in retirement, refusing to impact others with your experiences, wisdom, and expertise is a wrong finish. It may be the most tragic finish of them all. www.meninthearena.org Men in the Arena Books and Swag Support the Podcast Commit yourself at all costs to finishing strong.

And share it with us. Tribute (Blessing) Letter From NCMM President Jim Whitmore to His Father Edited: May 27, 2021 Dad, you never let me tell you how much I appreciate you and need you in my life. I guess it's your tough outer skin that hides on the softest hearts I have ever known. So, in the presence of my friends and family I would like to take the time to honor you publicly and to thank you. I am so very glad that I didn't have the typical father; I don't know that I would have become the man that I am. You were no Ward Cleaver that's for sure. But I know that no father could love a son more than you did. Ever since I can remember you have told me you love me more than life itself and I have never doubted that. So much of who I am is because of the experience you gave me. I took the best of your qualities and made them a part of who I am and learned from your mistakes, and there were plenty of them as well. We don't always see eye to eye, but you have at least respected my values and beliefs even when they clashed with yours. I can never express my gratitude for the experiences you have given me. You showed me the world through your eyes, our trips around the world expanded my horizons. You always wanted me to see the real side of life but more important than that, you wanted me to experience them. You have never sugar coated or hid the truth and for that I am eternally grateful. So many of my greatest gifts have come from you. You gave me the gift of speech, the ability to be comfortable in any environment, and the confidence to look any man in the eye and consider him my equal. You have taught me to fear no one, except God. You weren't the model Dad, but you were my friend. I always knew that I could tell you the truth about anything and you loved me with all your heart. You gave me a liberal education and made me student of life. What a precious gift. I confess before my friends and family you were the perfect father for me, you were my greatest fan, confidant, and supporter. You loved me and always affirmed me. Dad I love you. I accept you for who you are and thanks for always being there and giving me more than a last name and I will always be there for you. Kenneth Joyner is the director and co-founder of Boys With A Purpose, a nonprofit After-school Mentoring Organization for young boys. The organization has been serving the Charleston, South Carolina area since 2016. You Love Your Wife, but Do You Accept Her? EP 440

… Accepting your wife Our first year of marriage was hell and you can read about it in my book Strong Men, Dangerous Times. We were married 9 months after dating and really didn't know each other the way we probably should have. I discovered that it was easier to love her than to accept her. I needed to accept who she was. I had to accept I had no power to change Shanna, but I could change my attitude towards her and try to win her. We win our wives when we accept, love and serve them. Boots on the Ground Without using physical features, make a list of what you love about your wife. Why Cohabitation Before Marriage Is an Ignorant, Dumb, Unwise, and Overall Bad Idea EP 438

Why it is Bad???? The Bible GEN 2:24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. 1 COR 7: 1Now concerning the things about which you wrote, it is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2 But because of immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband. 3 The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. HEB 13:4 Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge 1 Cor 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies. Testing the relationship creates a cracked broken relationship foundation because it is a relationship that based on a test and not commitment Marriage and children will never be convenient. If your marriage is based on this myth you will struggle. It dishonors the woman you are called to protect by parading her around. Statistics prove that it is a BAD idea with 70% of cohabitator divorcing over the already high 50%. Again, the Bible proves itself over the world's wisdom Psychology Today The new study is by Michael Rosenfeld and Katharina Roesler. Their findings suggest that there remains an increased risk for divorce for those living together prior to marriage and that prior studies suggesting the effect went away had a bias toward analyzing shorter versus longer-term effects. They found that living together before marriage was associated with lower odds of divorce in the first year of marriage, but increased odds of divorce in all other years tested, and this finding held across decades of data. Strong Men Dangerous Times: Part 5 EP 434

The TRAIL'S END is FINISHING STRONG because it is the functional as well as foundational component of manhood. Why do so many men finish wrong and so few finish strong? Men in the Arena. Men in the Stress Bubble raising kids right now, listen up! Do you want to finish strong? GOOD! Here is how. Finish every day strong (6:00 -9:00), compounded over time, will equal a strong LIFE finish. Without these four things, a man is in SERIOUS danger of finishing wrong. This is so important guys! REPUTABLE (1 Timothy 3:7) There is nothing in my private life that could cause embarrassment to me or my family if it became public. Those who know me best, respect me the most. WISE (1 Timothy 3:2 and Titus 1:8) People often come to me for advice. I seek the advice from people I trust before making and big decision. TACTFUL (1 Timothy 3:3, and Titus 1:7) I try to make peace when a conflict begins, rather than welcoming a fight. I am not considered to be argumentative. BALANCED (1 Timothy 3:2) I rarely overcommit myself. I regularly make time to regroup, reflect, and refresh. www.meninthearena.org Men in the Arena Books and Swag Support the Podcast
