Ep 89Estrogen Explained

What’s the difference between synthetic and bio-identical hormones? The difference is the fit, so to speak. Ever bought two identical pairs of pants or shoes and yet the fit wasn’t the same at all? One felt great and the other kind of...skritchy? Even though these examples of hormones may sound similar, the difference is in the fit. Bio-identical hormones have an identical chemical structure as those produced naturally. They “hang” on the receptors correctly, whereas synthetic hormones do not. At this point, an interested party might just throw hands in the air and decide not to do anything about changing hormone levels. Bad idea. Estrogen is the main, active, metabolic hormone, and it protects the heart, brain, skin and helps put minerals back in the bones. Also, the mortality or morbidity of post-menopausal women with no hormones is 10 times those of women on hormone replacement. Lots of good reasons to understand your hormones, including estrogen.

Ep 88DHEA Explained

Have you ever wondered how your body creates hormones? Look no further than the most abundant circulating steroid hormone in humans, DHEA. DHEA is synthesized from cholesterol. Believe it or not, cholesterol is at the top of the food chain in making all of our sex steroids. Find out how it all works together, and how to find balance, in this episode.

Ep 87Thyroid Explained - Part 2

Your thyroid is a small gland with a big job. It controls our metabolism and EVERYONE wants a faster metabolism. If we buy a new car we expect it to be able to go fast. However, if that car is pulling a small trailer we understand that we should keep it off the Indy 500 racetrack. As humans, though, we might not understand what is slowing us down. Unfortunately, last night’s dinner might be partly to blame. Food and stress, stress and food. When a stressful situation emerges, your body calls for Cortisol – the stress hormone. Cortisol produces blood sugar, to give you the energy to engage in the battle. Blood sugar produces insulin – the fat-storing hormone. As you gain weight, you run the risk of minimizing or completely becoming immune to the signal telling you to stop eating. Of course, when we are stressed, we want to eat.

Ep 86Thyroid Explained - Part 1

Isn’t it frustrating to be stuck behind a tractor on an open stretch of road? You want to go faster, but are unable to speed up. Most of us wish our metabolism would “speed up” so we would have the energy to do the things we want to do. The thyroid gland, located in your neck, regulates your metabolism. It is also related to all of the other hormones. (Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone, Cortisol, Insulin, Leptin and DHEA.) We learned earlier that Leptin is the “Satiety Hormone” - the one responsible for telling our brain to shut the appetite off because we are full. However, Leptin is produced in the fat cells themselves, so as we accumulate fat, there is more and more Leptin trying to send this message to our brains. Our brains become “immune”, so to speak, to this message, so it gets ignored. What is causing this over-abundance of Leptin? Rapid weight gain. What is causing that? Here is a list that will probably contain some of your very favorite foods: Sugars and sweeteners, fried and processed foods, sodas, bread, and too much alcohol or caffeine - to name a few. Find a way to cut down on those things and help your metabolism do its job.

Ep 85Leptin Explained

There is a popular saying that “hindsight is 20/20”, which means that when looking back on a situation, we know exactly what we should have done. If only there was a messenger around to tell me that, right? Well, your body has just such a messenger; it’s called Leptin, and it’s a hormone that you may not know about. Leptin essentially has just one job: to tell your brain to turn off your appetite when you get full. It’s known as the “satiety” hormone. What’s that, you ask? Satiety simply means the satisfied feeling of being full after eating. So if we have Leptin messengers whose job it is to tell our brain that we are full, then why are we still overeating? Leptin is actually produced in the fat cells, which means that as we accumulate fat cells, we produce more and more Leptin. The brain gets tired of receiving so many of the same messages (like when our children whine) and eventually will become Leptin resistant - unwilling to respond as much to the same message.

Ep 84Cortisol Explained

Stress is one of the most common reasons for visits to the doctors office today. Whenever we are stressed our body produces a hormone known as 'cortisol' that gives us the energy we need to fight or flee from whatever it is that is inducing the stress. The problem today is that, for the most part, our stress isn't being caused by things that we can punch, run, and hide from, but rather fear mongering, lack of sleep, overworking ourselves, and poor diet.

Ep 83Insulin Explained

Ever been in a situation where you are absolutely positive that you know what someone else is talking about - and then realize you DON’T actually know? With that in mind, did you know that Type 2 diabetes - which is completely preventable - accounts for roughly 97% of all diabetes cases in the U.S.? If you are like most people, you probably don’t exactly know what causes it. But, it’s actually an easy process to understand: Eat a bowl of cereal. (The kind advertised on Saturday morning.) Insulin (made in the pancreas) takes the blood sugar out and converts it to glucose. Insulin looks for a place to store the glucose. Meanwhile, you get hungry again, because the insulin is continuing to work long after the cereal ran out. Insulin knocks on several doors (liver, muscles, etc.) looking for a place to store the glucose. Eventually, there is no room anywhere - in the good locations - to store it. Insulin converts the glucose to triglycerides and dumps it in your fat cells (and possibly organs) instead! What happens now is truly pitiful. Your cells become insulin-resistant and your pancreas has become too overstuffed to produce insulin any longer so now you must get it externally. Will this solve the problem? No, because insulin is fat storing. The more you take, the worse it gets.

Ep 81Peptides: Helping to Heal ft. Dr. Edwin Lee

“A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.” Most of us understand that this saying is alluding to the fragile portion of a chain, where it is most likely to break. However, if your health is your “weak link” then a particular chain might be the answer. Peptides are chains of amino acids, and certain peptides can do wonders to boost our immune systems. In this podcast, Endocrinologist Dr. Edwin Lee discusses two specific kinds of peptides and the startling potential benefits of both. 1. Thymosin Alpha 1 is a natural peptide that is derived from the Thymus gland. It controls the immune system in a way similar to how a conductor controls a symphony. This peptide can help you resist infections, illnesses, and diseases. 2. BPC 157 is an essential Body Protection Compound and comes from our stomach - but we don’t make enough. It is a healing peptide and helps with acid reflux and GERD. It helps prevent acid from coming back up. ---In this episode, you will discover:--- - Peptides and petitions - Why it’s good to be married to a doctor - https://savepeptides.org - Medical options being taken away - Re-establishing resilience ---Meet Dr. Edwin Lee--- Thanks in part to his groundbreaking insight in his field, his best-selling books, and his many significant presentations at major medical conferences around the world, Dr. Edwin Lee is a respected expert authority on hormonal balance and wellness, and a leader in defining the future of regenerative and functional medicine. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, and he founded the Institute for Hormonal Balance in 2008. His driving purpose is to focus on the prevention of diseases rather than just treating the impact of the disease - which, in many cases, could have been prevented. Dr. Lee invites all listeners to go to the website savepeptides.org and sign a quick petition so that our basic healthcare choices REMAIN our own. Don’t let anyone take away your right to make your own healthcare decisions.

Ep 80United We Stand ft. Melissa Tate

Melissa Tate has a unique perspective. She came to the United States from Zimbabwe when she was 19. By age 27, she had her own business that was bringing in 7 figures and had multiple employees. She was “living the dream.” Then she started noticing the same kind of ideologies that collapsed her home country were starting to take root in America. Her friends and family were “parroting” the rhetoric of white supremacy that they were hearing from the media. She became frustrated. How do you divide and conquer a country? One way is to convince one group of people that they have no chance to succeed because a certain “system” is in place against them. If you can’t get the adults to believe this, go after the children. That’s exactly what is happening now, in our school systems. People who know better are afraid to let their voices be heard. In this episode you will discover: Choice privilege, not “white” privilege What I learned from my son’s preschool Standing against “divide and conquer” 70 billion percent inflation Identity crisis: no national cohesion Meet Melissa Tate Melissa Tate has written a book that everyone needs to read: Choice Privilege. Melissa says, “the ‘White Privilege’ fallacy and critical race theory are being used to divide and conquer America from within. Black people are being told their skin color is an impediment to keep them from progressing.” “My destiny has never been pre-determined by my skin color. It is being shaped by the choices I make daily, good and bad.” You can follow Melissa on most social platforms with the handle “therightmelissa” or go to https://realmelissatate.com

Ep 79The Patriot Streetfighter ft. Scott McKay

Sometimes, life throws you for a wild loop. It takes you down paths that you didn’t expect. It forces you to reevaluate the choices that you’ve made in the past. Scott McKay knows this all too well. After leaving behind his prospective football career to attempt to become a Navy fighter pilot. Subsequently, he watched as the US government revealed its corruption and Scott made it his mission to wage a war on corruption in politics. Ep 78American Family: Under Attack? ft. Joe McGee

For the first time in American history, we have more blended families than core families. Divorce or separation, remarriage (or no marriage), step and half siblings. Whatever your family situation, the family itself is being attacked and it takes a godly battle plan to make it: one day at a time. In addition to the attack on families, most people have some sense of guilt, shame or regret about their past; they are stuck there. Jesus never cares about your past. Give it to God and let it go. Quit thinking about it. God’s mercy is new every morning and he wants you to be quick to repent AND quick to forgive yourself.

Ep 77The Mind of a Pro: Life in the PGA ft. Bo Van Pelt

A lot of people dream of playing professional sports without any real understanding of what it would take - day in and day out. In sports, a young athlete might be the best there is in high school, only to get to college and face a whole new level of skill. The pattern repeats every time a goal is achieved. While talent and top physical condition certainly play an important role in developing a star athlete, one of the most vital qualities is consistency. What does it mean to be consistent, or to have a consistent routine? A consistent routine is simply the ability to break larger tasks down into much smaller components. It takes some will power and determination, but once you are able to do this, you’ll actually SAVE time and energy (not to mention stress) and help yourself achieve more than you ever thought possible.

Ep 76Is God FAIR or Is He JUST? ft. John Bevere

How often do we find ourselves thinking, “that’s not fair!”? This is a favorite outcry of children the world over, and we reply by saying something like, “you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit!” We expect our children to abide by this rule, and yet we are the first to break it - usually over lunch with a sympathetic friend. When adults reference the word “fair”, they generally feel that some injustice has been committed against them, not that they CAUSED the injustice. God is not “fair” with us. He gives us mercy in lieu of punishment. He also shows us in different parables that he has a distinctly unique perspective on “fairness.” In Matthew 20:1-16, workers in a vineyard were hired at different points throughout the day. They were all promised a daily rate. Of course the ones that worked all day were angry that they did not get more pay. It wasn’t fair - right? Wrong. They agreed on a daily rate; which they received. In the parable of the talents, God was not “fair” again. He didn’t give his servants equal amounts. Two of the three servants doubled what they had, but the third servant didn’t do anything with it. He kept the one talent given to him (a talent was a significant amount of money) to return to the master, but that wasn’t good enough. The master actually calls him wicked AND lazy! Wicked? In other words, “possessing a serious fault that hinders us in our ability to bear fruit.” The fact that he didn’t multiply what he had is the only qualifying event of this parable. That indicates that faith is tied to multiplication. The other servants are rewarded: the master calls them good and faithful servants.

Ep 75The Heart of the Matter ft. Sarah Bowling

Isn’t it great when you go to someone’s house that you are close to, kick off your shoes and make yourself at home? Laughing and eating and sharing stories? God wants you to feel this way with him, 24/7. Is it possible? Absolutely. A good father delights in his children, and God delights in you - and it is not dependent on your good and perfect behavior, either. Think of the story of the prodigal son. We know what the foolish son did, and there was quite a difference in the behavior of the sons, but the father actually loved both sons - his position did not change. He greeted the foolish son back and treated him with lavish love. The “good” son isolated himself from the father (and the family) by hanging back and becoming angry. He also acted like a servant instead of a son. He basically said, “look how many years I’ve stayed here serving you, never giving you one moment of grief, but have you ever thrown a party for me and MY friends?” Sadly, he doesn’t recognize that the Father is also treating HIM lavishly. The father tells him, “everything I have is yours.” I’m your father and I love you. His desire is for BOTH sons to receive that love. To come home.

Ep 74Understanding What Pain Is Trying to Say ft. Dr. Matt Hunt

Too many times we try to come up with a quick solution to our problems. A friend needs advice? We cut them off with a quick, ill-fitting answer. Child gets a scraped knee? Here’s a band-aid. And when it comes to our own health or wellness, we have a medicine cabinet full of answers to any aches or pains. But surely it would be better to dig down and discover what is CAUSING those aches and pains. After all, pain is the nervous system’s way of alerting you that there is a problem. What should you do with that information? Mask that ache or pain with ibuprofen or another drug? How about using that symptom as a puzzle piece on your way to the root cause? Once that root cause is identified, a plan of action can be put into place, and you can be on your way to being a much happier, healthier person.

Ep 73Digestive Health and Colostrum ft. Alicia Galvin

An amazing thing happens at birth, the production of Colostrum - a mother’s first milk. It is a superfood, because it contains so many good and vital things for a newborn. It activates a newborn’s immune system, jumpstarts gut health, protects against disease and infection and much more - and it’s good for adults too! Since it is produced in mammals during or around a birth, you may be wondering how someone might even get access to it. Good question. Well, believe it or not, bovine colostrum (coming from a cow) is very similar to human colostrum. Because they share so many of the same components, the way they work in the body is also highly similar, with some amazing benefits. Learn all about it in this podcast.

Ep 72Helping People in a Hurting World ft. Dr. Steve Paxton

If you want to dazzle your friends and family, ask them what a portmanteau is. I’ll give you a hint: It’s not a castle in Scotland or the name of a fancy dessert. It refers to a word that blends two other words or meanings. Such as “spork”, “mockumentary” and so on. With that in mind, Steve Paxton is what you might call a Techie-Pastor-Practor. He has had three careers and loves to learn new things. He’s a “techie”, because he worked for Hewlitt-Packard for 23 years, a Pastor for 9 and ½ years and now is a Doctor of Chiropractic who graduated Summa Cum Laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. What do those careers have in common? Well, he’s either fixing things or helping people fix their problems. In this episode, he wants to help you overcome in a hurting world.

Ep 71Modern Day Miracles ft. Josh and Gretchen Trimble

People often think, “If my faith is strong enough, I’ll no longer face hardships.” But this thought is nothing more than a fairytale. Faith doesn’t remove hardships. Rather, it gives you the ability to overcome hardships and see a miracle on the other side. Josh and Gretchen Temble learned this firsthand when their four month old child suddenly became deathly ill with an “incurable” condition. Their stubborn faith enabled them to endure six long months in the hospital and experience miracle after miracle on the other side. Watch or listen to this episode now to encourage your faith.

Ep 70Help for hurting... Doctors? ft. Dr Charles Webb

Today, healthcare is led by big corporations whose primary concern is how to make money... and money is made off of sick people, not healthy ones. Doctors are trained to prescribe medication or surgeries instead of helping patients change their lifestyle. You know the drill. We barely get 5 minutes with them, and it’s all about what prescription we need and when they will schedule our next appointment. If you don’t have an understanding of how your body works, you are kind of in a place of slavery - meaning someone else is going to make decisions for you. Dr. Charles Webb joins us in this episode to explain that, if we really want to help people live well, lifestyle comes first.

Ep 69Everyday Healings ft. Jim Hockaday

We wear ourselves out by rushing around taking care of so-called urgent tasks, then get sick and blame God or hope for a miracle. Why? The answer has to do with more and more people “believing” in their sickness rather than “believing” in their healing. If you believe in something, you’ll create that reality whether it be healing or sickness. Find out how to experience everyday healing in this episode with Jim Hockaday.

Ep 68A Legacy of Faith ft. Craig Hagin

We all desire something: A new house or car, physical healing, more money, or countless other things. But what do we do about that desire? Sadly, most of us don’t do anything except talk about what we DON’T have to anyone who will listen. Craig Hagin’s grandfather, Kenneth E. Hagin, made a good choice. He decided to take God at His word and he chose to be healed. At that time, he was only 16 years old and partially paralyzed. Faith and the spoken word go hand in hand. We can speak to the mountains (problems) in our life. That’s what Jesus told us to do, but it starts with desire. We have to want to do something before it happens. Next is faith, which is simply believing what God says. After that, we need to speak to the mountain. In other words, make sure that what is coming out of our mouth lines up with the Word of God. How do we live by faith? Find out in this episode.

Ep 67Naturally Supernatural: The ZOE Life ft. Chad Gonzales

Zoe life refers to “The God Kind of Life.” But what does that mean, exactly? Ever notice how Jesus doesn’t say, “I came so you could go to heaven?” He says, “I came to give you life, and life more abundant.” And yes, “life” in the Greek is Zoe. Zoe life is an overwhelming awareness of God’s divine nature IN us - and that Zoe life will naturally overflow in our daily lives. You can’t give away something that you don’t possess. Or don’t REALIZE that you possess. Here’s where we start to panic. After all, if I’m supposed to do something, especially something, ahem, out of my comfort zone, I can come up with ALL KINDS of excuses why I won’t be able to do that. When Jesus saves us, he also saves us from excuses. Colossians 2:9-10 says, “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” Nothing missing, nothing broken. We're not waiting on God to give us something - he already has. We walk in divine health. We don’t bounce from crisis to crisis, or miracle to miracle, just to see us through. It emanates FROM us out of our relationship and union with Christ. Find out how to live the ZOE life in this episode with Chad Gonzales.

Ep 66Believe Conceive Achieve ft. Butch and Julieann Hartman

Ever notice how your eyesight tends to change over time? What was once clear and sharp can get a little cloudy or fuzzy a few years later. Our lives can be like that as well. When we are young, we might have a clear and definite picture of what we want to do, and what our purpose in life is. Pretty soon, enough expected (and unexpected) changes occur that we are left not knowing what our purpose is. Like a kaleidoscope, the picture tilts and shifts until we can’t recognize the result anymore. Most people let their ideas die. Don’t be those people! Instead, let someone draw out of you what God has put in you. You need to be able to move forward with what you have. Jesus didn’t multiply the loaves and fish until he HAD some loaves and fish!

Ep 65Are you a YES-a-holic? ft. Mimika Cooney

Anyone who loves gardening probably has some choice words about crabgrass. It looks like it’s just in one spot and then reaches across a sidewalk, wraps around a tree and then jumps under your fence to terrorize your neighbors. What makes it so difficult? The fact that the roots are interconnected, and not necessarily where you think they are. Just like that crabgrass, our roots are sometimes deeply embedded in the past, and that can - and will - affect our present life more than we realize. Bad roots will produce bad fruit in our lives, because certain emotions that we feel from the past unfortunately do not have an expiration date! Discover how to pull up the bad roots in this episode with Mimika Cooney.

Ep 64Breaking the Cycle of Fear ft. Clay Clark

Trust is defined as the “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.” Be careful who or what you put your trust in. We put our trust in basic things of everyday life: our car to get us to work, our friends to shoot straight with us, and our family to love us. It’s time-consuming to check every source, and besides that, it can turn us bitter and cynical. Better to be positive-minded and trusting, right? Well, mostly right. The truth is that we forget that other people and organizations might have their own agenda, and we can be filled with misinformation and not even know it. After all, there are only so many hours in the day, and we can’t investigate everything we hear. That's why Clay Clark joins us in this episode, to arm you with the resources you need to fight against misinformation.

Ep 63The Mind and Body Connection ft. Lofa Tatupu

It’s not often that you hear a former professional football player say that he is in much better shape NOW than he was in the NFL. That is exactly what Lofa Tatupu, formerly playing for the Seattle Seahawks, IS saying. In six seasons, he had 10 surgeries and over 15 documented concussions. Playing football is a little rough on the body. When his father died, it was discovered later that he had both early-onset Parkinson’s, and CTE - (which is essentially chronic head trauma.) His father had also played for many years in the NFL, and that’s when Lofa started to worry about himself more. And for good reason. Whenever he would come out of a concussion, there was short-term memory loss, attention problems, lack of focus and general cognitive deficits. He also had inflammation, sleep apnea, vision issues and a host of other complaints. And this was all in his late 20’s. When you have a dream and you work for it and live it for years and years and it’s suddenly gone, your heart gets ripped out. It affects everything you are or can be. It causes you to sink into a “funk” or depression. How do you get out of that? Find out in this episode.

If we truly understood that words create, we would choose our words more carefully, to “create” a brighter future for ourselves. We would also surround ourselves with people in our lives who would speak positively and keep us expecting the best. We can raise our positive energy with the books we read, the shows we watch, etc. And likewise, anytime we have an opportunity to know what our weaknesses are – physically, emotionally or spiritually – we have an opportunity to correct them. In this episode, Gary Hensel will help you peel back the layers and find out who you really are.

Why is it when we think about change, it’s always with someone else in mind? Wives want their husbands to change and husbands hope their wives WON’T change! We want our children to do better in school, be homecoming queen or captain of the football team. We have a certain idea or opinion in mind about every person in our lives, but we are the only ones we can change. Of course, each of us also have blind spots that we are unable to see by ourselves. Ep 60From “Raw” to “Revved Up!”

“Come as you are” is more than a sign in a restaurant window. It is a beautiful invitation to relax, be yourself and not worry about needing to be overly dressed or formal. Jesus also wants us to relax and be ourselves - although many people think that they cannot be themselves and follow him. We need to remember 1 Samuel 16:7, “man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Be encouraged by Brad's story about how a personal relationship with Jesus Christ made all the difference.

Ep 59Forest Bathing ft. Dr. Suzanne Bartlett Hackenmiller

Ever driven somewhere and had no memory of getting there? Ever been in the middle of a conversation with someone only to realize you have no idea what the person is saying? Those activities (and countless others) are examples of NOT being mindful. Not slowing down to really enjoy the food you are eating, or paying attention to the sights and sounds going on around you. Now imagine that we are going to take two words that you are already familiar with, and combine them into one term that you probably have never heard of before. Ready? Are you sure? This is pretty different. Okay, here they are. Forest + Bathing. (I tried to warn you.) First, let me assure you that your clothes stay on. It’s simply a matter of taking all of the relaxation that you get from a bath - “Calgon take me away” - and combine that with the simple pleasure and therapeutic benefits of nature. THAT’s what we’re talking about today.

Ep 58Hope for Alzheimer’s Disease ft. Dr. David Haase

Alzheimer’s. People hate hearing that word. It triggers us; it makes us afraid. “I don’t want anyone to know, because I don’t want to acknowledge it.” It’s hard to say, it’s hard to spell and it leads us into a downward spiral of depression and hopelessness. There is hope. We have to be brave enough to see new data, new treatments, and new opportunities. Read on. Denial is based on fear, but knowledge is power and there IS something we can do about this. It’s called Therapeutic Plasma Exchange, and it is shown to slow moderate cases of Alzheimer’s by 60% over a span of 14 months. This treatment involves the removal of plasma from your blood and the replacement of new, clean plasma. In essence, you take out the bad things and put in the good things.

Ep 57Core Principles - Zero Compromise

Men: What do you think it takes to consider yourself a “real” man? Money in the bank? A fast car? A woman you can be proud of? Your every need and desire being met? Or does it go deeper? Work you are content or fulfilled in, or a satisfying marriage? Or are you simply too busy to even think about these questions? When God created Adam, he must have given him at least the potential to be everything that “manhood” entailed. Appropriate love, a way to provide for his family, a sacrificing nature, right leadership and the ability to honor and follow through with his spoken word. Or, if you want a way to sum up these points, Gandhi said, “happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”
