She and Police Corporal Jacain Colson were engaged to be married. Jacai was working as an undercover police officer and had driven to the police headquarters building to bring her some food. Mirian was working when a call came out for an active shooter at the P.G. County Police Building, where Jacai Colson was waiting to meet her. The suspect began shooting at the police station, and passing vehicles before being engaged by responding officers. Corporal Colson, who was in plainclothes, engaged the shooter, allowing the other officers to seek cover. Corporal Colson was inadvertently struck by a round fired by one of the other officers. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced. She arrived at the scene and began tending to Corporal Colson. And then drove him to the hospital where he was declared dead. She talks about the horrible incident and how her life began to spiral out of control with PTSD. Her agency the Prince George's County Police Department and County Government abandoned her due to the PTSD. For years she struggled until she found help. He got a call for an armed robbery at a jewelry store. When he arrived he was met by two suspects, one of which opened fire on him. As he got out of his police car while responding to a call for a robbery at a Jewelry store, Robert DeNapoli was shot six times, in the hand, arms, legs, and left eye. The first to arrive on the scene, Bob immediately exchanged gunfire with the suspect, hitting the suspect twice as DeNapoli took multiple rounds. When a round hit him in the hand taking off most of his index finger, the trigger to his gun was damaged and would no longer fire leaving him with no weapon. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and after several surgeries and days of treatment, was able to return home. Though the 17-year veteran’s career as a law enforcement officer came to an end as a result of his injuries, which left him blind in his left eye and walking with a limp, he continues to remain active in the law enforcement community through Violently Injured Police Officers Organization. Police Officer Partner Died, He Spiraled Out Of Control. The Traumas Of His Law Enforcement And Military Service Became Too Much When His Police Partner Was Killed. Work With Horses Saved His Life And Gave Him A New Mission To Help Others. His Police Officer Partner, a rookie that he was responsible for training was killed while responding to a call to back him up. When he saw his partner's lifeless body, combined with a failing marriage, and all the cumulative trauma, it took an immediate toll on him. From that point on, he began to spiral out of control, self medicating to excess with alcohol and other destructive behaviors. Over a period of time he began to have suicidal thoughts which came to a point when he tried to take his own life. Thanks to a handgun failure he was not successful. After some time and seeking help, he became involved in caring for horses thanks to a new girlfriend. The horses helped him turn his life around and now he uses his experience to help others with his podcast and much more. Swift, "The Quadfather", talks about the freak accident that left him totally paralyzed and in a wheelchair at the age of 17. Just days before his 18th birthday while playing football with friends he received the life changing injury. Brian talks about the incident, the immediate affects of the paralysis and the amazing people that helped him in his journey. In spite of the paralysis, he is a talk radio show host, a podcaster, an author and a happily married father.
