LAB-233-My First Adventure Motorcycle Purchase & Ride

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I have ridden street bikes and Harley-Davidson motorcycles for many years now. I still love street riding and cross country riding. However, I love all motorcycles and am also getting into adventure and/or dual-sport motorcycle riding in addition to street. I bought a Kawasaki KLR 650 for my first adventure motorcycle. I also took the KLR 650 out for the first time off-road for an afternoon and I tell you all about it and my experience. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Big Daddy is also on a microphone for this episode. He's been in the dual-sport/adventure motorcycle game much longer than I and brings some great knowledge to the table. He has had several dual-sport motorcycles. He has had a Kawasaki KLR 650 and now has a KTM, which he talks about. There are many things to consider upfront if you're thinking about getting into adventure motorcycle riding. It is really a booming sport right now and it seems the motorcycle manufacturers are battling it out to try and make the perfect bike. It's going to be exciting to see what they'll come out with over the next 5 years. Heck, even Harley-Davidson sees the writing on the wall and is trying to get in the game with their Pan America adventure motorcycle, which is rumored to be released to the public in 2020. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Big Daddy gives some great information on some of the more popular well known dual-sport motorcycles on the market and some of their specs. He also goes over the pros and cons of some of them. I researched for a long time before buying the Kawasaki KLR 650 for my first adventure bike. It really comes down to choosing what kind of riding you're planning on doing and then choosing a motorcycle that will best fit your needs. Of course, the price of an adventure motorcycle has much to do with it too. And you'll certainly want to consider what type of aftermarket parts are available for your motorcycle to make it your own and to fit your needs. That's just some of what we talk about in this episode and you'll need to listen in to get all the information. Ep 232LAB-232-Transitioning From 2 Wheels to 3 Wheels on a Harley Trike

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Big Daddy Kane recently transitioned to a Harley trike after many years of riding on two wheels. Due to some back issues, it was becoming just too cumbersome lifting and moving a two-wheel Harley off the kickstand for him. This was not an easy transition for Big Daddy mentally as he did not see himself getting a trike at his current age. He thought, like many, that the switch may happen when he was a bit older. It was also quite a learning curve for him to learn to ride the trike after riding two wheels for so many years. He talks about his experience and what he's learned riding the trike. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE There are many things to consider for a rider considering moving to a trike. There are many aftermarket trike conversation kits for Harley. Or, you can just buy a Harley trike all setup already. There are pros and cons to many of these decisions of course. Big Daddy made some modifications right away that you'll want to know about. Harley trikes have become much more popular over the years and many are riding them even if they don't have a medical condition requiring it. Some riders just prefer the trike and there are some benefits to it over a two-wheel motorcycle. Big Daddy decided on a 2020 Harley Tri-Glide Ultra. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com F4 Customs was founded in 2007 by owner Don Frank, whom I interview in this episode, and the company is based out of Ohio. Ep 230LAB-230-Adventure & Off-Road Motorcycle Riding | Part 2 of 2

E

This is part 2 of a 2 part series. In this episode, Oscar and I talk adventure and off-road motorcycle riding. We love riding our Harley's cross country and that will certainly continue. But, we have an overall passion for all motorcycles and all types of riding. I'd have one of every sort of motorcycle if I could afford it. Check out my YouTube video titled: "I Just Bought & Rode My First Adventure Motorcycle? Am I Hooked?" Several of us here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media have been getting into adventure and off-road motorcycle riding, so we wanted to talk about it. We know that many listeners also ride street and off-road motorcycles. We talk from a perspective of what it's like getting into this sort of off-road adventure riding and we are by no means experts. We are learning as we go and having a blast. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Adventure motorcycle riding allows you to explore well beyond those paved roads and opens up many possibilities. Like street motorcycles, there is a ton to learn and know about adventure motorcycles and that is what Oscar and I try to break down in this podcast episode. There are different terms for these types of motorcycles such as adventure, off-road, dual-sport, or enduro and that can be confusing and overwhelming when getting started. And, these terms can cross-over into each other is what I've come to learn. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! There are so many questions to be asked when getting into adventure and off-road motorcycle riding. What type of riding are you going to do? More street or more off-road? How well does the bike ride or handle off-road or street? Are you riding off-road technical trails or mainly fire roads? How much power do you want or need? How reliable is the bike you're getting? How far do you plan on riding? Can you put luggage/bags on the bike? How comfortable is the bike for longer rides? How big is the fuel tank, so you can ride further? What type of tires does the bike have? How many aftermarket parts are made for the bike? And the list goes on from there. Ep 228LAB-228-Winterizing Your Motorcycle-Best Practices

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com There are many misconceptions about what to do when winterizing your motorcycle and we are going to clear it up in this podcast episode & article. It's actually a very easy process and easy to do. (Some links/pictures are affiliate links. No additional cost to you, but if you click through and make a purchase we get a small commission. It helps support us) Battery When winterizing your motorcycle, you don't need to remove the battery if you don't want to as it's just extra work. Unless there is no power where you store your motorcycle. Whether the battery is on or off the bike, make sure you plug the battery into a reliable "float" charger/maintainer/tender that reads feedback voltage from the battery and tops it off as needed. Don't use a "trickle" charger that constantly feeds a small amount of current to the battery nonstop as that will overcharge the battery. Check out this article and video I did on Lead Acid vs. Lithium-Ion batteries Get a battery tender here Don't start your engine up every now and then to "warm it up" after winterizing your motorcycle This is a very common mistake and we already released podcast episode #130 going over the reasons not to do this in detail. A cold start is hard on the engine. Understand, that if you aren't running the engine under load up to full operating temperature, moisture condenses out of the air into places water doesn't belong. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Unless you are planning on going for an actual decent ride to burn off moisture and charge that battery up, then you are better off just not starting it at all. Further, when it's cold outside the gasoline is less likely to evaporate. Your motorcycle purposely runs "rich" and compensates for this initially by adding more gasoline to the air-vapor mixture. That's the problem, you're actually putting extra fuel into the combustion chamber to make it burn and some of it can get onto the cylinder walls. Gasoline is a great solvent and it can actually wash the oil off the cylinder walls if you run your motor in those cold idle conditions for an extended period of time. Over time, that can have a detrimental effect on the lubrication and life of things like piston rings and cylinder liners. This can have a serious effect on the overall operating life of your motorcycle engine. Don't drain your fuel tank Leave the fuel tank full when winterizing your motorcycle and add a quality fuel stabilizer additive. If you empty the tank it's vulnerable to corrosion and dried out seals. For carbureted bikes, be sure to turn the petcock off and drain the carb bowls. Get fuel stabilizer here Check your antifreeze on water-cooled bikes Just check the anti-freeze and make sure that it is not all water or that it has too high of a watery consistency. You can use a simple affordable Anti-Freeze Hydrometer to test what temps your anti-freeze is good for. Get an Anti-Freeze Hydrometer here Use a good quality tarp or cover when winterizing your motorcycle. If storing your motorcycle indoors, then a good quality dust cover will do. If outside, then a completely waterproof and breathable motorcycle cover is recommended. Make sure the outdoor cover fits well and will not blow around in the wind and rub the paint on your bike. The cover needs to breathe to allow any moisture inside the cover to escape. Get a motorcycle cover here on Amazon Get a motorcycle cover here on Revzilla Tire pressure Before putting the motorcycle away, check the tires for proper inflation with a quality tire pressure gauge. Don't worry about flat spots forming on your tires from sitting. Rumors such as these are from the days of bias-ply car tires, which could form a flat spot overnight. Modern motorcycle tires will not form flat spots like that. Get this awesome tire pressure gauge in our online store here Oil Change If your regular oil change is due at the time you are winterizing your motorcycle then certainly change your oil & filter out before storing your motorcycle. But if it's not due, then just store it with the same oil in it. Certainly, change your oil if are going to store the motorcycle for a very long period of time & not just for the winter months. Check out our Harley, Indian, and Victory oil change and maintenance videos here Clean your bike Make sure you clean and detail your bike before you store it. You don't want all those bugs, road grime, and grit working away at your paint. Plus, it will be super hard to get all that grime off in the spring after storing your bike. Ep 224LAB-224-Ruffians Motorcycle Club Interview-Freemasons-Guest Dave Poss

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I had the privilege of interviewing Dave Poss, who is the Vice President of the Ruffian's Motorcycle Club. The name "Ruffians", may throw you off a bit so you'll have to listen in to this podcast episode to understand what's up with the name. This is a law-abiding biker club comprised of "Master Freemasons", which is the top degree earned within that organization. However, it's not good enough to just be a Freemason to join and be accepted into the motorcycle club. The Ruffian's Motorcycle Club has a traditional structure and you'll have to do some hanging around and prospecting before you may be voted in as a full member. The pillars of the Ruffian's Motorcycle Club are brotherly love, relief, and truth an each is explained on their website. On the back of the Ruffian's vests, they wear a top rocker stating their club name, a center patch/logo, and to the right of that, a number representing their place/lodge within the Freemasons. Printed on the Ruffian's Motorcycle Club website is the following: We are a group of Master Masons that ride motorcycles. Our goal is to spread brotherly love of all Masons wherever we ride. We strive to act as Masons, and treat all by the square and level. We attend charity events and by our actions spread the word of Masonry wherever we ride. Ep 222LAB-222-Why I Rode My Indian Instead of my Harley Cross-Country-Deep Thoughts

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I have Rick "Big Daddy" Kane in the studio for this episode. He owns both a Harley-Davidson Road Glide and an Indian Chieftain Limited. This year, Big Daddy decided to ride his Indian Chieftain on our 8-day, 7-State, 3,000-mile motorcycle trip instead of his Road Glide. He has ridden both these motorcycles on very long road trips now and is certainly qualified to give his opinion and thoughts. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE This is not an episode of Harley vs. Indian. Big Daddy is very unbiased and loves both his Harley Road Glide and Indian Chieftain, which is why he owns both of them. He has some good and bad things to say about both motorcycles. Neither bike is perfect and each offers some different things. It is really up to each rider to consider what is most important to you personally and then choose a touring bike. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Big Daddy goes over many things in this episode. He likes the stock rear suspension on the Indian Chieftain over the Harley Road Glide. But he likes the gas mileage of his Harley much better. He says his Indian is a real "gas hog". This is only one of many things he discusses. At the end of the episode, Big Daddy reveals his favorite motorcycle for riding long distance and locally, so you'll have to listen in to find out! Ep 217LAB-217-Gold Star Ride Foundation With Guest Anthony Price

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Take a listen as I have a conversation with Anthony Price, executive director, of the Gold Star Ride Foundation. In 2018, Anthony did a single motorcycle ride spanning 18,000 miles, 44 states, 56 days of solid riding, and made contact with more than 60 Gold Star families. Anthony wrote a book after this ride named, Yours, Very Sincerely And Respectfully. The Gold Star Ride Foundation honors our nation's fallen heroes by taking care of their families. And we deliver the goods in person. And we go on bikes. In 2019, Anthony did 4 Rides, thus far, spanning 16 states, more than 20 days, nearly 10,000 miles, and has made contact with more than 30 families. Gold Star Families are defined as those who have lost a loved one who is serving or who has served in our armed forces. The loss of life does not have to be in combat or while deployed. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Anthony says they help Gold Star Families in many different ways and it's tailored to their personal situation and needs. This is why Anthony meets in person with the families, to get a real feel of the history and situation. It can be helping a child with college fees or stocking cabinets with groceries. The foundation is just there to help any way they can. Anthony says privacy of the families is of the utmost importance and the foundation does not reach out to them. The families must contact the foundation to get things started. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The Gold Star Ride Foundation will actively support, comfort, and provide education benefits to Gold Star Families throughout the United States and will provide these things directly with personal visits via motorcycle; and we will support those other organizations that work to assist in these same activities. We do the work that our fallen heroes would do if they hadn't fallen for all our freedom. Ep 216LAB-216-Harley Releases the 2019 Electra Glide Standard? Gem or Junk?

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Harley released their latest touring bike, the Electra Glide Standard, and kept it pretty low key. Harley is calling it the "dressed down dresser". It comes in at a cheaper option than the Street Glide, Road Glide or either of those "special" models. In this podcast episode, we break things down for you and what this new Harley is all about and who it may be for, so listen in. The 2019 Harley Electra Glide is basically a stripped down Street Glide and so that's what I am going to compare it to. The Harley Electra Glide starts at $18,999 and the basic Harley Street Glide starts at $21,289. The Street Glide special jumps up to a starting price tag of $27,089. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE The 2019 Harley Electra Glide Standard is an awesome and capable touring bike. I say that because I ride a 2018 Police Electra Glide every day for work. It is a highly capable bike and I think it's great that Harley made a regular public model here in 2019. Understand that the Harley Electra Glide lacks a stereo/infotainment system of any kind and there is just an empty open storage box in that location. It doesn't come standard with ABS brakes but hey can be added for $795. I strongly suggest you add ABS brakes if nothing else as they save lives. It also lacks a two-up passenger seat and passenger pegs but anything can be added based on your needs. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! I'll also mention, the Electra Glide has smaller wheels and the tires are thicker than the Street Glide. The windshield is tall and plain and it has the regular square rear brake/signal setup. You can only get this bike in black. All these things separate its look from the Street Glide a bit. The 2019 Harley Electra Glide comes with the very capable Milwaukee-Eight 107 motor. Yes, it comes standard with cruise control, which is a must for any touring bike. Harley has recently been making moves to appeal to a broader demographic of riders. I believe the 2019 Harley Electra Glide Standard is an attempt to grab riders who may now be able to get into motorcycle touring at a lower price point. The 2019 Electra Glide Standard is a cheaper price and stripped down but a very capable Harley touring model. It will be interesting to see how well this bike sells. Remember, that for close to $2,000 more than the 2019 Harley Electra Glide Standard you can get a Street Glide Standard, which comes standard with ABS brakes, a basic version of the Boom Box radio (4.3 non-touch screen), two up passenger seat, passenger pegs, and paint options. But, everyone's budget is different, so the Electra Glide may be the best option for many. You can always build this bike up how you want it. Ep 214LAB-214-Is Harley Really Voiding Your Milwaukee-Eight Warranty Unfairly?

E

Official Website: If you currently have or are considering purchasing a Harley-Davidson extended warranty plan at the time of purchase on a new bike with the Milwaukee-eight motor, you may reconsider now and into the future if things stay in their current state. If you are planning on adding specific performance upgrades, it may void both the two-year manufacturer's warranty and any 3 or 5-year Harley extended warranty you purchased, commonly referred to as an "extended service plan". These new strict warranty policies really only pertain to 2017 & newer Harley's with the Milwaukee-Eight motor. Those of us that own earlier models really haven't had to deal with what I'm about to reveal to you. (This is a guide only. Read the actual warranty paperwork for yourself.) SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE 60 Day Service & Warranty Registration (SWR) Let's first talk about the 60-day warranty rule, which is referred to as a "Sales & Warranty Registration" or "SWR". If within the first 60 days of your new Harley purchase you purchase Harley Screamin' Eagle parts and have them installed by a Harley dealership mechanic, all parts and labor will be covered during the two-year manufacturer's warranty and during any extended service plan you purchase. Also, all the parts and labor will be tracked under the vehicle identification number (VIN) and can be tracked for the life of the bike. It's as if the bike came from the factory with the parts. An example would be a Screamin' Eagle stage four install. You can often finance the Screamin' Eagle parts and labor at the time of purchase of your new Harley. Now, you can still purchase Harley Screamin' Eagle parts after that 60 days and have a dealership mechanic install them and your warranty will remain intact, however, only the 1-year Screamin' Eagle parts warranty will apply and labor will not be covered in the future if there is a related problem. Note: You can purchase a 3 or 5-year extended service plan, which attaches to the end of the two-year manufacturer's warranty. That means, if you purchased the 3-year extended, you'd be covered for 5 years. Likewise, if you purchased the 5-year extended, you'd be covered for 7 years. Then, as long as you don't exceed 75,000 miles you can renew your extended service plan for an additional 5-years for a total of 12 years risk-free engine work/labor. But, this all comes with a price tag of course. And a reminder that you've been forced to only use overpriced Harley parts. What Voids Your Harley Warranty? If you or anyone else besides a certified Harley dealership technician installs Harley Screamin' Eagle parts or any other brand performance engine parts on your Harley, any warranty you have is technically voided. We'll talk further about that later. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! As an example, and very technically speaking here, if you install simple aftermarket slip-on mufflers and an aftermarket stage-one air intake your two-year Harley manufacturer's warranty and any extended service plan you purchased is voided. Certainly, if a non-Harley certified dealership mechanic or you install a stage four kit of any brand, your Harley warranty will be voided. Further, if you or anyone else install an aftermarket electronic fuel injection (EFI) tuner, your entire Harley warranty is immediately voided. How Does Harley Decipher These Things? Some things are going to vary from dealership to dealership on how they choose to handle some of these issues and how they choose to treat their local customers. But first, what you need to know is that if you take your Harley to any dealership and they need to plug your Harley's engine control module (ECM) into their proprietary Digital Technician II software, it is going to automatically start reading things. If the software determines you have current EFI map/tuning changes in your ECM from an aftermarket non-Harley EFI tuner it will immediately & automatically send that info to the Harley servers and will be forever locked to your VIN. Thus, your entire Harley warranty will be voided! The dealership will plug your ECM into Digital Tech for simple things like flashing your Boom Box Infotainment system after adding a speaker and amp system or adding a Wireless Headset Interface Module (WHIM) for wireless Bluetooth headset pairing with you Boom Box. Or, they may need to read the ECM to diagnose fuel and/or air issues and many other things. Simple installs like aftermarket slip-on mufflers or an air intake will not be read by Digital Technician as those alone cause no changes to the ECM. On the other hand, EFI tuners do change the air/fuel settings in the ECM and so it can be read by Digital Technician. Dealerships do have some options on how they handle things. Essentially, the aftermarket mufflers and air intake are visual to a dealership and not read by Digital Technician, thus nothing is sent to Harley servers and a dealer

Ep 213LAB-213-Emergency Motorcycle Braking Techniques & ABS Systems-Practice Drills & Testing

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, we talk about the proper procedures for emergency braking on your motorcycle. We go over both ABS and non-ABS systems in addition to linked braking systems. I had Oscar on a mic and we are both full-time Police Motorcycle Officers and train together. Additionally, I'm a Police Motorcycle Instructor. We go over some recent police motorcycle training we conducted on emergency motorcycle braking. Oscar rides a 2018 BMW Police R1200RT & I ride a 2018 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide and they act differently when emergency braking, but the techniques are the same. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Proper braking of your motorcycle in an emergency situation is likely the most important thing you can practice that can save your life out on the roads. The faster you can dump as much speed as you can to avoid completely or prior to an impact can't be stressed enough. The unfortunate thing is that so many riders have never gone out to a parking lot and practiced proper emergency braking techniques. Proper motorcycle emergency braking needs to be practiced routinely to stay sharp. We had several motorcycle brake related voicemails, so we really wanted to cover this topic. You can leave us a voicemail anytime right from your smartphone or computer and it may make the show! To test your motorcycle ABS system, simply find a safe place with a good clean surface and get going a little. Then slam on the rear brake. You'll hear and feel the ABS system engage on a Harley. It may be a little more subtle on a BMW or other metric bike. All riders should know what their ABS system feels like regardless of motorcycle make, so you are prepared and don't freak out if it happens in a real situation. Used Oil Analysis Note: We also discussed Oscar's recent used oil analysis (UOA) he sent to Blackstone LAB. He uses Amsoil and is going on 7,120 miles on an engine oil change on his 2013 Harley Ultra Limited and everything is looking good. He's going to keep going further and do another test later at around 10,000 miles. I've provided that UOA for your review if interested. Emergency Motorcycle Braking Procedures: We cover proper emergency threshold motorcycle braking in this episode such as applying 70% front brake to 30% rear brake. You should really get comfortable with your front brake as that is going to slow you quickly. Just using your rear brake is a very bad idea and alone won't stop you very quickly at all. Relying on it too much on the rear brake is a sign of a new or inexperienced rider. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Emergency Motorcycle Braking Drill: We also go over a simple and basic motorcycle emergency braking drill that you can practice. It's what we constantly practice as Police Motorcycle Officers. Find a safe parking lot with no gravel or major surface issues and set up a marked entry gate. You can use cones or any other marker. Then measure out 62' from the entry gate and put other markers at the end gate. You'll need a fair distance prior to the entry gate so you can get to the proper speeds. Start at 20 mph or below when going through the entry gate markers to start and get comfortable. Do not cover either the front or rear brake with your hand or foot. Make sure you are at a steady 20mph at the entry gate to start. Sit up, straighten and lock your arms, so you don't get pushed forward in the saddle when braking. After crossing the entry gate, hit the front brake 70% and the rear 30% trying to stay out of the ABS brakes and right on the edge of engaging them. If you don't have ABS then apply the same concept, trying to not lock up the rear or front tire. Shift down to first gear while emergency motorcycle braking. While braking, look in your mirrors as you would need to do on the actual roadway, so you can see what's coming up behind you and/or going to rear end you, so you can try to avoid it. When you brake fast it causes others behind you to react. Come to a stop before the second gate, putting only your left foot down and your right foot still on the rear brake. Still looking in your mirrors, start quickly and turn left or right as if to move out of the way of that car rushing up on your rear. It's called brake and escape. After you get comfortable, work your way up to a max speed of 40 mph. It's called the 40mph emergency braking drill and should be practiced often to stay sharp. You'll be amazed at how you will get better and better at this as you practice. It will give you much confidence. Have a partner watching that you are doing the drill correctly by not covering your brakes prior to the entry gate and that you are looking in your mirrors, shifting down, etc. If you ride two abreast with partners out on the road, then you should also practice the same drill while riding in this configuration. Of course, when you get stopped, one rider will turn out to the right a

She talks about what it's like growing up as the daughter of a law enforcement officer. Big Daddy is a career LEO and of course, oversees the Law Abiding Biker Store on the side. This episode is not necessarily just about motorcycles but I thought it'd be a great episode and give some insight to those, not in law enforcement. Plus, we get to pick on Big Daddy! SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Cheyenne has some great stories about growing up and how motorcycles help her dad cope with the stresses of being a LEO in this day and age. Ep 209LAB-209-Harley-Davidson is Making Electric Bicycles & Scooters?

E

Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Harley-Davidson, Inc. announced that it has acquired StaCyc, Inc., They produce 12 and 16 EDRIVE, electric-powered bicycles specifically designed for kids. As a subsidiary, a Harley-Davidson branded version of StaCyc's 12-inch and 16-inch models will be sold through select Harley-Davidson dealers. These Harley branded electric bikes will be available in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2019. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE It also appears Harley-Davidson is working on smaller electric scooters. They provided some prototypes to X-games athletes to ride around and they promoted them on Instagram. Many are wondering if they'll have an actual electric scooter model to put on the floor and sell to customers any time soon. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Why is Harley-Davidson focusing on all these electric bicycles and scooters? My opinion is that Harley is realizing that many older generation riders are fading and they really need to grab the attention of the younger generation who have many choices. They want to get the Harley brand introduced to young riders of bicycles and scooters, thus when they get older they'll consider a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. They want to continue to create brand loyal riders as they have for many years. Additionally, they just released their first electric motorcycle, the LiveWire, in late 2018 and they're likely learning much about electric vehicles with the bicycles and scooters, so they can be a leader in that market in the future. Don't worry, I don't believe Harley is trying to get out of the game of traditional motorcycles that has driven the company for so many years. They are just realizing that change and innovation is the only way to survive and compete in the future. Listen in to this podcast episode as we get into detail about what's going on. Ep 208LAB-208-Does Motorcycling Reduce Stress & Increase Alertness? And Lane Splitting Legalization in 2019 in the U.S.?

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, Lurch and I discuss a recent UCLA study, funded by Harley-Davidson, that says motorcycling reduces stress and increases alertness. A study from the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, at the University of California, Los Angeles, seems to confirm that. Three UCLA researchers studied more than 50 motorcycle riders in tests that recorded their brain activity and hormone levels before, during and after riding a bike, driving a car and resting. Did they prove there are potential mental and physical benefits of riding your motorcycle? Well, listen in to this podcast episode and find out as we break it down for you. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Next, we talk about that fact that motorcycle lane splitting or lane filtering may be legalized and coming to your state in 2019? California is still the only state where lane splitting is legal and many other states are watching closely. Unfortunately, lane splitting has become a rather controversial topic. Mostly by those that don't understand the many benefits of motorcycle lane splitting & don't ride motorcycles themselves. The following states are in different stages of possibly legalizing lane splitting: Maryland, Connecticut, Utah, Oregon, Texas, and Hawaii. If legalized, each state has its own ideas and rules on how motorcycle lane splitting can be done. Things such as whether it can only be done when traffic is stopped and at what speeds you can actually do it. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The Street Glide is tighter for tall guys, but both excellent riding positions. Lots of accessory options with Harley. Way more than Indian! More saddlebag space in Harley Milwaukee-eight 107" ci motor has great power. Harley 107 ci motor has a touch more acceleration than the Indian Thunderstroke 111 with air, exhaust, and EFI tuner upgrades on both. So, the Milwaukee-eight 114" motor will definitely have more power. Accessories from manufacturer cost a bit less for Harley compared to Indian. More dealers nationwide f0r Harley-Davidson Harley has a long history with the brand and bikes Harley touring models have a larger fuel tank for riding cross-country Many aftermarket HD accessories work and fit well. Beware of some aftermarket parts for Indian. Harley Cons: With the Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System you have to add an expensive Wireless Headset Interface Module (WHIM) in order to have Bluetooth headset paring. And you have to buy a Harley stamped Sena Bluetooth headset in order to get full functionality and stereo sound. The Indian Ride Command® system is ready to pair with any major brand Bluetooth headset and you get full functionality. You don't have to add anything on. Some Harley Dealerships are treating their customers very poorly by stating they'll void warranties if a customer adds an aftermarket air intake or mufflers. This is ridiculous & Harley-Davidson dealerships doing this should be ashamed. They are trying to force customers to buy only Harley stamped products and pay mechanics to install simple things. Service at Harley dealerships-You want to trust they know everything but the fact is that many dealers are not up to speed and properly trained on the emerging technology such as the Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. Indian pros: Quality bike. Nice touches. Offering traditional styling and new limited editions. Technology-Ride Command infotainment system works great! Bluetooth built in. Just pair a Bluetooth headset. GPS updates are free for the first 3 years! Indian uses Navi Extras for the GPS maps. Harley uses Navi Extras for the GPS maps but you must pay $150 to $200 to upgrade your GPS maps in the Boom Box Infotainment System Charger in the saddlebag for electronics comes stock on the Indian Paint is fantastic-Love the color matched inner fairing & front fairing Thunder stoke 111 ci motor has lots of torque. Milwaukee-eight 107 is better in higher gears. Both bikes with similar aftermarket upgrades Smooth/quieter transmission shifts than on the Harley. Not clunky. Easier oil changes on Indian. One hole. Ep 205LAB-205-What's Up With The 2019 Harley FXDR 114? Hot or Not?

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com This episode is all about the 2019 Harley-Davidson FXDR 114. This new motorcycle was released in late 2018 and at that time I took it for a test ride. To get all the details, check out my Harley FXDR 114 test ride and overview videos on YouTube. The Harley-Davidson FXDR 114 rides great considering it has a 240 mm rear tire on an 18" wheel. The 19" front wheel with a 120 mm wide front tire works well with the rear tire size. The new cast aluminum swingarm and inverted front forks with cartridge dampening both round it out to make a good cornering motorcycle. I was actually very impressed with its abilities. Join the #BikerRevolution SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE The new Harley Livewire electric motorcycle has caused quite a stir within the Harley community. I posted a YouTube video when it was first announced and wow, you should read the comments. They range from complete understanding, to anger at the price tag, to absolute rejection that Harley would even consider an electric motorcycle. SEE MY COMPLETE HARLEY LIVEWIRE ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE OVERVIEW YOUTUBE VIDEO & ARTICLE HERE! Whether you are personally interested in an electric motorcycle or not, Harley must look to the future and they clearly realize the electric motorcycle will be a slice of the overall market. This is only the first iteration of the Livewire and Harley's first attempt at the market. This does not change anything for the traditional Harley owner, so don't be fearful. All the regular Harley models are still available and the internal combustion engine is not going away any time soon. You should likely be happy that Harley is looking to the future and figuring out how they are going to stay in existence. At $30k for a starting price & with the current electric vehicle limitations, it will be somewhat of a novelty bike in my opinion. Ep 201LAB-201-Harley-Davidson Rider Stereotypes | Are Times Changing for the Better?

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com There are many Harley-Davidson rider stereotypes out there to poke fun at. As soon as you read "Harley-Davidson Rider" an image popped into your head. It's just the way it is and for many years it seemed Harley-Davidson riders were unchanged. But, has that changed and are the changes good? On the mics were me, Lurch, and special guest and Patron Member Bob Dawson. They also weigh in on this subject and we had a great time, so listen in for a deeper look. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE The Harley-Davidson rider you may think of is an unrefined middle-aged male, overweight, unhealthy, long dirty beard, dirty baggy jeans and sleeveless shirt, tattoos, half helmet or no helmet, leather jacket or vest with pins and patches, half finger leather gloves, clunky buckle style leather boots, leather chaps, bandana on his head, wearing goggles, and wearing no modern progressive safety gear. Did I nail it? I think that's been a long time stereotype of the Harley-Davidson rider, but it's changed over the years. If that's how you currently look, that's okay, own it. Sure, when most of us got our first Harley back in the day, we leathered up and looked the look and walked the walk to some extent. That was the expectation to make you feel like a real biker. But, once you actually start riding and not just hanging out at biker events looking good, you realize that you don't need to fit that stereotype and you are introduced to much lighter and better progressive riding gear. There's nothing wrong with leather and it still has its place if you like it. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! As you age you realize that you should probably care some about your physique and overall health if you want to continue riding and enjoying your Harley into the latter years. Long distant riding takes stamina and being healthy helps much. In general, we are a more health-conscious society these days and that has bled over to Harley riders too. In general, I've seen the typical Harley rider stereotype fading over the years and that continues. There is so much available to us in the marketplace now and bikers are taking advantage of buying actual gear that helps instead of trying to fit a particular look. Riders are just becoming smarter about things. And of course, you have different subsets of Harley rider stereotypes that have developed such as on the west coast. You'll see riders on Harley Dyna models with tall T-bars. They'll be wearing long Dickie shorts, vans shoes, and knee-high white socks & a T-shirt doing wheelies. Not that any of this is good safety gear, but it's a style. So, styles come and go in the motorcycle industry too. Listen in to this podcast episode as we really break it down and have some great laughs. Do you fit the Harley-Davidson rider stereotypes? New Free Video Mentioned: Got Lights? Ep 200LAB-200-Motorcycle Riding Safety Tips & Dangers-From a Police Motorcycle Officer & Instructor

E

Official Website: http://www.dev.lawabidingbiker.com In this podcast episode, I go into great detail of the dangers I see out on the road as a full-time Police Motorcycle Officer and Instructor. I see riders making so many common mistakes that unknowingly put their lives in danger. Unfortunately, I respond to many motorcycle collisions and it's never fun. Many times it's not the rider's fault, but had that rider practiced better defensive riding skills they would have avoided it. And yes, I understand that under some circumstances there is just simply nothing the motorcycle rider could have done to avoid a collision. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE In the studio on the mics were Lurch and special guest and Patron Member, Bob Dawson. Bob donated his time to paint the entire inside and outside of the Law Abiding Biker™ Studio and Shop when we were building it! Bob Dawson owns Dawson Custom Painting out of the Yakima, WA area. Both Lurch and Bob weigh in on their experiences and things they do to stay safe when out riding. I truly believe that if motorcycle riders would stop making many common mistakes that motorcycle collisions would be greatly reduced. Too many riders become complacent and make dangerous mistakes, don't practice, and are not prepared. Ask yourself, when is the last time you spent just 20 minutes practicing emergency breaking in a parking lot? This could save your life and it's an easy drill to set up. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! You need to listen in to this podcast episode, as it's much easier to verbally break down the things I've seen and to give you all the tips and tricks that will help you stay safe when riding your motorcycle. I will try to give a few of the highlights in this article, but again, the details are in the podcast episode. Some more common dangerous things: Following too closely Back off! Give yourself reaction time and the cars behind you time Don't ride with your feet on the highway pegs in the city with traffic. They are for the highway. Greatly reduces your reaction time to get your foot on the brake Cover your clutch in heavy traffic Be ready to emergency brake and shift down to brake and escape Slow at EVERY intersection even if it's a green light Expect a car to come through every time Head checks left and right upon approach Cover clutch and brakes Don't just ride through at full speed and expect traffic to stop Don't start on a green light right away. Wait a few seconds to avoid those other cars trying to beat the yellow/red light Don't ride in a driver's blind spot Back off or pass Tap your brake lever or pedal to flash your brake lights to get the attention of driver's behind you when slowing or preparing for a stop Or buy an aftermarket brake strobe modulator Be slow to stop/Following distance again gives you that ability to not have to stop suddenly Be cautious of traveling in the left lane in a city when two or more lanes are in the same direction as you are going Cars ahead in the left lane will stop and have to wait for oncoming cars to make a left turn. Cars will not expect this and everyone will brake quickly. Vehicles turning right from the right lane don't have to wait and just quickly turn off. Again, the proper following distance will help you stop slowly and give cars behind you more time to see you and also stop Following distance.....hmmmmmm, this keeps coming up? Do it if you care about your life! Be extra careful when a line of cars are stopped in the opposite direction as you and they are backed up. Look for gaps left in the traffic. Drivers will try to come out of parking lots through those gaps to get out and will not see you and have a blocked view from the traffic they are cutting through. Very dangerous, so slow down and pay very close attention covering your clutch and brakes. Practice, practice, practice your emergency braking and other riding skills Take your motorcycle riding safety seriously Again, these are just a few highlights of what we discussed in this podcast episode. To learn it all, please listen in. New Free Video Mentioned: How to Flash Harley Boom Box Wireless Headset Interface Module-WHIM-Digital Technician Sponsor-Ciro3D CLICK HERE! Ep 198LAB-198-Mayans MC Series on FX Network-Should Bikers Watch?

E

Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com The FX Network released its first season of the new motorcycle club based series named "Myans M.C.". They ran 10 episodes the first season and the last one aired in early November 2018. Although this is somewhat of a spin-off series from the Sons of Anarchy motorcycle club based FX Series, it is also very different in many ways. In this podcast episode, we break the series down for you and what's it's all about. The big question will be whether, as a biker, you should invest the time to watch the Mayans M.C. series? We do a roundtable and each of us gives you our personal opinions to help answer that question. I will tell you that after being a watcher of the Sons Of Anarchy series, I wasn't that invested after watching the first 3 episodes of the Mayans M.C. But, by the 4th episode, things started to flow for me and I am now a definite watcher and look forward to seeing if they'll release season two in 2019! I think it's common to take several episodes for any new TV series for an audience to buy in and become routine watchers. ABOUT THE SHOW *Taken from the FX Network Website Mayans M.C. is the next chapter in Kurt Sutter's award-winning Sons of Anarchy saga. Set in a post-Jax Teller world, Ezekiel "EZ" Reyes (JD Pardo) is fresh out of prison and a prospect in the Mayans M.C. charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Now, EZ must carve out his new identity in a town where he was once the golden boy with the American Dream in his grasp. The series also stars Clayton Cardenas, Edward James Olmos, Sarah Bolger, Michael Irby, Carla Baratta, Antonio Jaramillo, Raoul Max Trujillo, Richard Cabral, and Danny Pino. Recurring stars include Emilio Rivera, Frankie Loyal, Joseph Lucero, Vincent Rocco Vargas, Maurice Compte, Gino Vento, Tony Plana and Ada Maris. Mayans M.C.was co-created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. Norberto Barba directs the first two episodes. The series is executive produced by Sutter and Barba, with James as Co-Executive Producer. The 10-episode first season is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions. New Free Video Mentioned: Speed and Strength Black 9 Moto Shirt Review Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! Ep 197LAB-197-Is the Sony XAV-AX 5000-Direct Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment Replacement? Good & Bad

E

https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Is the Sony XAV-AX 5000 Harley Boom Box Replacement worth it? This is everything you'll need to know if considering the swap. Darryl "Squid" Barnes here at Law Abiding Biker Media dug in deep to find out everything you'll want to know if you're considering ditching your Harley Boom Box for the Sony XAV-AX 5000 unit. Listen in to this podcast episode as I ask Darryl all the questions you'll want to know. There are both pros and cons to this replacement unit from Sony and you must understand that it was never specifically designed to replace the Harley Boom Box, but it does a great job. Some have just found that it will work great if you also buy the proper "plug and play" bundle of items to make it work. There is a company that puts out a for purchase bundle kit for the complete install. Any rider that has experienced the Harley Boom Box over the years and all of its frustrating shortcomings have likely thought about an alternate option. Harley has not won any customers over with the Boom Box, but instead frustrated many. It lacks in many ways and has constant issues that they haven't been able to fix in years now with many software updates. Check out our #1 Best Selling Harley Boom Box Tutorial Videos Here! Flatten the learning curve and get the most out of your Boom Box Infotainment System! In 2019 Harley came out with a re-designed Boom Box GTS system that claims to be the next generation. However, it too lacks and has frustrated customers with Harley forcing riders to buy only their branded products such as headsets to get full functionality. As a few examples, the new 2019 Boom Box GTS has Apple Car Play, but it won't activate unless you use a Harley branded wireless Bluetooth headset that Sena makes for them or a Harley branded wired headset. And the Boom Box GTS does not have Android Auto. The new Boom Box GTS introduced in 2019 is better than the older units and has a full touchscreen with no physical buttons. The menu system has also been cleaned up. However, it still has issues. You'll definitely want to watch my video on the new Boom Box GTS. Video-Review-2019 Harley-Davidson Boom Box GTS Infotainments System | Must Know Info The parts you'll need to for the Sony XAV-AX 5000 Harley Boom Box Replacement. If you source the products yourself: Sony XAV-AX5000 (retail: $429.99) Metra 95-9700 Installation Dash Kit, including the HD-ASWC-1 handlebar control integration module (retail: $199.99) Total if sourced yourself: $629.98 And the products don't come pre-soldered and ready to go like other bundled kits Some places sell a less expensive bundled Kit as they've sourced the products for you. These plug and play bundles include the following (all prewired): Sony XAV-AX5000 Metra 95-9700 Installation Dash Kit for Double DIN head units Metra HD-ASWC-1 handlebar control integration module These kits come pre-wired and ready to go About $500 The pros of the Sony XAV-AX 5000 Harley Boom Box Replacement: The replacement Sony system has standard am/fm and it has both Apple Car Play and Android Auto baked in and they will function if your smartphone is plugged into one of the USB ports. It has a full 7" touchscreen and is very sleek. You can buy a XAV-AX 5000 bundle kit that will allow it to install and function when installed on your Harley-Davidson. With Apple Car play and Android Auto, you'll be able to use Apple Maps and Google Maps for navigation. Another nice feature is that with the Sony XAV-AX 5000 you'll maintain your factory handlebar control functions with some limitations. The Sony unit has a Bluetooth "handsfree profile" built in, so you can pair your smartphone directly with it. It also has a bluetooth "headset profile", which means you can pair a wireless bluetooth headset with it for music and phone calls. Further, the Sony replacement plays FLAC files on USB drives and includes Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming. You can also jam to your favorite playlists on Pandora or Spotify if you use those instead of your pre-loaded Apple or Android music. The unit is also compatible with a SiriusXM satellite radio tuner. AND, it comes with a 1-year warranty. The Sony unit also has dual rear USB inputs and a rear-view camera input and 5-channel preamp outputs (2-volt front, rear, subwoofer). The cons of the Sony XAV-AX 5000 Harley Boom Box Replacement: The Sony XAV-AX 5000 is not marine grade like the Boom Box system is. So, you'd need to be careful if riding in heavy rains and when washing your Harley. You'll lose your intercom functionality and it's not CB radio compatible. Additionally, you won't see your EITMS on/off screen or oil pressure like on the Boom Box. Further, the Sony unit has built-in satellite GPS navigation, but you'll need to pay an additional $260 for a module to get that functionality. With the module, you'll get true offline satellite GPS navigation. TomTom is responsible for the maps on the Sony unit, but the maps have not been updated as

Ep 196LAB-196-New Harley Ride Planner GPS & Mapping for Harley Boom Box | Better or Worse?

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com This is what you need to know about the new Harley Ride Planner free online software that was released in mid-2018 and replaces the older long-standing online version. Yes, as usual, Harley did this quietly and mostly unannounced. We have had the #1 selling Harley Ride Planner tutorial video for many years. When this new version was released we made a completely new and revised Harley Ride Planner tutorial video! The new free online Harley Ride Planner software is very different from the older version. Using the desktop version of Ride Planner is the most useful and best experience. However, in our tutorial video, we show you in great detail how to use both the desktop and the smartphone app version of Harley Ride Planner and the entire Harley-Davidson smartphone app! GET THE OFFICIAL HARLEY RIDE PLANNER TUTORIAL VIDEO HERE If you're not using the free online Harley Ride Planner software to map out your motorcycle trips then you are missing out. Although it's not perfect, we can show you how to utilize it and get the most out of it in our tutorial video. For a free tool, Harley Ride Planner is pretty great. You can plan and map out your entire motorcycle trip and then download it, and upload the turn by turn GPS directions into your Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment system or other Harley supported external GPS device. There are many helpful tools built into Ride Planner such as easily inserting Harley dealership locations, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, events, scenic locations, and more. You can easily filter what you want to see on the map and what you don't. You can add waypoints and places you want to stop. There are different versions of the map you can view such as normal, classic, terrain, or satellite. You can easily zoom in, zoom out, and drag the interactive map around much like what you'd expect using Google Maps. You can add and drag waypoints around and adjust the route to different roads if you. GET OUR AWESOME HARLEY-DAVIDSON BOOM BOX!™ INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM TUTORIAL VIDEOS HERE! Once you add an address or location to your route you can see the mileage and time between one stop to the next. You can even view a list of turn-by-turn directions. Once you save your trip you can always come back and make changes if necessary. You can share your saved Harley Ride Planner via a link with friends and they can import it into their Ride Planner and upload it into their GPS device. We plan our rides here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media using Harley Ride Planner and then send it out to the entire group, so everyone has the same plans. While releasing the new Harley Ride Planner desktop online software, they also released a completely overhauled smartphone application for IOS and Android. If you were using the old app called "Ride Planner" you can delete it because it's not supported anymore. You'll want to download the new official Harley-Davidson smartphone application in your respective app store. Built into the app is Harley Ride Planner along with many different things. The app will sync with your free online Harley account and once you sign in you'll see any saved Ride Planner maps that you created and saved via desktop. Get the Official Harley-Davidson & Ride Planner Smartphone App! IOS Android Yes, finally on the app you can now select one of your planned and saved rides and get visual and audible turn by turn directions on your smartphone! This was not possible on the old Ride Planner app, so I am super excited about this new functionality. I will say that creating a ride/map on the smartphone app is a bit cumbersome unless you are taking the fastest route between selected locations etc. You can't drag roads to take different routes like using the desktop version. However, there are some tricks I teach you in our Harley Ride Planner tutorial video that will make it possible to create an alternate route and take the roads you want. The app is just not very fast or user-friendly to create detailed motorcycle rides. By far, the best experience for creating detailed rides is on the desktop online Ride Planner version. Weather is a new feature on both the desktop and smartphone app versions. It appears Harley partnered with Dark Sky Weather and it is now integrated into Harley Ride Planner. What this means is that you can scrub through a planned ride and see where you'll be at a particular mileage on the map and you'll be able to see what the current weather and forecasted weather is. I find this very useful, but I will say that the desktop version lacks and you can get much more detailed weather info on the smartphone app version. I really hope they fix this on the desktop version and make it more useful. Additionally, with the Ride Planner portion of the smartphone app you can record your ride and it will track you via GPS. You can then name and save the ride for future reference and share it. There are different icons on the bottom of the smartphone app

Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com This episode is all about the unsanctioned, I say that jokingly, Patron Ride & Meetup Event occurring in Tennessee on June 22 of 2019! That's just four days after the Official Sanctioned 2019 Law Abiding Biker Patron Meetup (Episode #194) in Salt Lake City, Utah! For the finer details of these events, you need to be a Patron Member of Law Abiding Biker Media and be in the Private Patron Member Only Motorcycle Facebook Group, which is a troll free zone. If you've been on the fence about signing up, make no mistake about it, we've got some awesome things in going on for our Patron members and you'll want to be a part of it here in 2019. Get signed up and become a Patron Member now! Don't forget the Official 2019 Sanctioned Law Abiding™ Biker Media ride and dinner in the greater Salt Lake City, Utah area! (Podcast Episode #194) This unsanctioned Patron Ride & Meetup in Tennessee will be Patrons meeting and riding with other Patrons over and around the east coast area of the U.S., We here at Law Abiding Biker Media will not be present for this event. I'm super excited that the Patron Member community in the Private Member Only Facebook Group is taking it upon themselves to meet each other and schedule events like this! I never dreamed this sort of thing would occur when I started Law Abiding Biker™ nearly 6 years ago! That Private Patron Member Only Motorcycle Facebook Group is the best community of motorcycle enthusiasts around & you're missing out if you're not in there. It is the best troll free motorcycle forum in the world and it's all about bikers helping bikers inside with courtesy and respect for each other. It is completely searchable and you can find topics of all kinds related to motorcycles. It has collected quite a database of topics over the years as you can imagine. If you can't find a specific topic or discussion in search, just post the question and bikers from around the world with all different experience levels will gladly assist you and/or guide you with their expertise. Many of the Law Abiding Biker™ Media east coast Patron Members can't make it west across the United States to our yearly sanctioned rides and meetups & we understand that. We are unable at this time to really travel on our motorcycles any further east for meetups and events because we here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media are all still working our other full-time paying jobs. When some of us retire at some point from those paying jobs and have more time off, we hope to be able to reach out further and get further east and even outside of the country for events. A special thanks to Patron Member Russell Roberts of Tennessee, who is spearheading this unsanctioned Patron Meetup in June 2019. I have him on the mic via a Facetime call for this episode and we dive in deeper so I can learn about this event & share the details with you. Russell has an awesome ride plan set up for the day to include the famous "Tail of the Dragon" and I am so jealous I can't go. He also rented a very cool and secluded house with a private back yard to end the ride at. Once there and after the day ride, Russell has a BBQ dinner planned for everyone! You must get ahold of Russell Roberts in the Private Patron Member Only Motorcycle Facebook Group and RSVP to the Unsanctioned Ride & Meetup in Tennesee on June 19, 2019. Ep 192LAB-192-Iron Butt Challenge on a Harley-World's Toughest Riders? An Inside Look

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Listen in as we discuss in detail what it takes to complete an Iron Butt Challenge on a Harley. I have guests Jonathan "Fuente" Holen and Rob "Lawdog" Layman on the mics. Both have completed an Iron Butt Challenge. The Iron Butt Association is dedicated to safe, long-distance motorcycle riding. The Iron Butt Association website is detailed and there are specific instructions and rules to follow if you're considering a certified Iron Butt Challenge on a Harley. They also have lists of verified rides and riders that have completed a challenge on the website. They have rides and routes setup or you can create your own ride that will take you wherever you want to ride. There are small fees to enter a certified challenge and everything needs to be verified before you make the website list. You'll have to keep gas receipts with times and locations and have certain documents signed for later verification. The Iron Butt Association has about 60,000+ members and is based in the United States, however, they have thousands of members throughout the globe! If you are considering an Iron Butt Challenge on a Harley then you absolutely must listen in to this podcast episode. Rob and Jonathan will give you inside details about doing a challenge. They share important tips, tricks, and insights on what it takes to complete a challenge. They share things you should do and should not do. They share in-depth information about what they learned and what they would do differently on their next Iron Butt Challenge on a Harley. A great resource that was mentioned that many Iron Butt Challenge riders use is SpotWalla to track their travels. SpotWalla is a secure personal location manager that supports a wide range of satellite- and cell-based tracking technologies. It puts you in control of your personal, private location data so you have complete control of your degree of exposure. Ep 191LAB-191-3 Great LED Headlights for Harley & Indian Motorcycles

E

Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We have tested many LED headlights for Harley-Davidson and Indian motorcycles over the years and continue to do so. I did an LED headlight comparison article & video on our YouTube Channel some time ago and you should check it out. There are many resources in that article. Video-3 Best & Brightest LED Headlights for Harley-Davidson | Real World Testing by Bikers There are an array of LED headlights for Harley & Indian motorcycles in the marketplace, but not all are good quality. We all know the stock halogen headlights on Harley's lack brightness, but there are exceptions depending on what Harley model you get. Some models are coming with Harley Daymaker LED headlights now. One of the first things we do on our Harley's here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media is to install an LED headlight. This is a safety issue. LED headlights will not only let you see road hazards faster at night, but they will allow other motorists to see you better during the day. Listen in to this podcast episode to get in the know about LED headlights for your Harley or Indian motorcycle. The Harley LED Headlights I Tested: Note: Affiliate links below. Ep 190LAB-190-Adventure Motorcycle Riding-Yukon Territory & Alcan Highway on a BMW-Special Guest | Part 2 of 2

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Part 2 of 2 This is an inside look at adventure motorcycle riding in the Yukon Territory and riding the Alcan (Alaska-Canada) Highway. Special guest, Adam, recently took a 14-day adventure motorcycle ride to these areas on his BMW R1200 GS and he tells all about it. Popeye and I asked Adam a ton of questions as Adam is very knowledgeable in the sport of adventure motorcycle riding. We were broadcasting live video with live chat for our exclusive Patron Members! Get exclusive access to these live broadcasts and become a Patron Member and get benefits! Get early access to episodes like this! This was a great conversation & education for me & Popeye, who was also on a mic. Although I love riding cross-country on my Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special on maintained roads, I'd love to someday do some adventure off-road riding on roads that can only be seen and ridden on adventure type motorcycles. Being a full-time LEO Motorcycle Officer and running Law Abiding Biker™ full time on my days off does not leave me enough time right now to get into adventure motorcycle riding. I'll likely try some adventure motorcycle riding when I retire from the LEO job but for now, I just want to learn as much as I can about it. Listen in as we ask Adam about his background, the best adventure motorcycles, riding experience, packing for adventure riding, clothing & riding gear, eating arrangements, fuel stops, fuel issues, roadside motorcycle maintenance, breakdowns, GPS tracking, mapping, and trip planning. Adam reveals what he learned on this 14-day trip and he gives some insider tips that you'll want to know. I hope this episode reaches many street style riders that may want to try adventure motorcycle riding or are currently doing so. I think it's an exciting sport and another great opportunity to ride a motorcycle, see beautiful country, and meet riders from around the world. Ep 188LAB-188-Rockford Fosgate Speakers and Amplifier for Harley-Davidson | Review & Install Info

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We spent the day in the Law Abiding Biker™ Shop installing and filming a Rockford Fosgate speaker and amplifier system for Harley install. We installed the system on a 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide. In this Podcast episode, we go over the entire install and give you our opinion on how the sound quality stacks up to other systems we currently have installed on our Harley's. I want to thank Patron Member Greg Jordan for taking thetime to get ahold of us. He lives about 2 hours west of our location in Washington State and made arrangements to come over for the day and let us film and install the Rockford Fosgate speaker and amplifier system on his Harley. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! That is the awesome Patron Member Community that is growing here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media, Inc. He wanted to share this information with the rest of the community! Greg got to see behind the scenes what it's like to film a detailed install tutorial video. Get our Rockford Fosgate Speaker/Amp Install Tutorial Video! Rockford Fosgate now offers a Harley front audio upgrade kit featuring a plug and play amplifier wire kit, a Power series small chassis, 4-Channel amplifier and our new 6.5" direct fit speakers. The kit comes with everything you'll need for the install. We found this is a universal kit that will fit 2014 & newer Harley Street Glides, Road Glides, and Ultras! The exact Rockford Fosgate Harley System we installed is as follows: Power Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® (2014+) & Road Glide® (2015+) Front Audio Kit-Rockford Fosgate (HD14-TKIT) Purchase through the above Amazon affiliate link if you appreciate our efforts to help bikers. No additional cost to you, but we get a small commision. You will need to have your Harley Boom Box Infotainment System flashed after or before install and definitely before firing the system up for the first time. Unfortunately, some Harley dealerships are now refusing to flash the Boom Box with their Digital Technician software unless you buy a Harley brand amp/speaker system and pay the Harley tax. They will not flash the Boom Box if you have another brand system such as Rockford Fosgate. To combat this, there are motorcycle shops that have similar but limited software and they can flash the system to the proper configuration and Rockford Fosgate provides a list of those shops on their website. See Rockford Fosgate Harley Boom Box Radio Flash Advisory Warning During installation of the Rockford Fosgate speaker and amplifier system for Harley, we noted that all the components are of high quality and nothing is lacking. The wires are very thick and everything is well put together. It is a universal kit to fit multiple Harley models, so there are components you won't use. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE After listening to the Rockford Fosgate system we were very impressed. It has great audio quality and clarity and can be turned up loud w/o distortion. In comparison to our J&M amp/speaker system and our Harley Boom Audio Stage 2 amp/speaker system, the Rockford Fosgate definitely has less bass and more of the mids and highs. The J&M and Harley Boom Stage 2 system have a bit more bass and mids. That's not a good or bad thing, but we wanted to note it. Much bass is lost anyways at freeway speeds when riding. The systems are very similar when running a decibel meter test and nothing was remarkable. The Rockford Fosgate speaker and amplifier system for Harley is less expensive than both the J&M and the Harley system at $850 at the time of this review. Note: As a reminder, we already have 4 tutorial videos available for other popular speaker and amp systems for your 2014 and newer Harley-Davidson. In June 2018, members of Law Abiding Biker™ Media along with members of the Sworn Few LEMC embarked on a 10 day 4500 mile 12 state cross-country motorcycle trip. This trip would take us out of Washington State and into Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico & Colorado. We stayed over in cities such as Twin Falls, Idaho, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Papillion, Nebraska, Kansas City, Amarillo, Texas, Gallup, New Mexico, Grand Junction, Colorado & Boise, Idaho. In the middle of our midwest motorcycle trip, we met up with our beloved Patron Members in Papillion, Nebraska for an entire day. Our Patron Members support us financially, so we can help as many bikes as we can worldwide. Of course, our Patron Members get benefits and exclusive access such as meetups like this. The local Patrons had an awesome day planned for a very large group. We all met up in the morning and they took us on a beautiful day ride, which included a stop for lunch. We all had plenty of time to visit and get to know each other on a more personal level. We ended the day at a private location where the Patron Members and their friends and family had a feast prepared for everyone! We visited many places and saw a ton of great country on our midwest motorcycle trip. We stayed at some good and not so good hotels and motels. We ate at some good restaurants and some bad ones. We experienced good and bad weather and a few of the bikes experienced some mechanical problems that had to be fixed. We had some very funny times as a group and made memories that will last a lifetime. Everything that happened shaped the trip in some way. Ep 184LAB-184-Is Harley-Davidson Failing to Connect to its Core Customers? Marketing Mayhem?

E

Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Over the past several years the Harley Marketing Team seems to have taken the wrong path & made some poor decisions. It's understandable to most riders that Harley-Davidson as a company needs to stay legitimate & boost sales in an ever-changing market. However, many of Harley's most hardcore and brand loyal customers feel the Motor Company is losing touch with them. Based on Harley's cheaper priced, smaller & lighter motorcycle line-up of Street and Sportster series, it's clear they're trying to draw new younger riders. This makes sense as their core customer base is now middle age or older. In their quest for new younger riders, Harley seems to be forgetting who is still feeding them and they're not paying attention to their core customer base. If Harley ignores and loses their core customers they will be in big trouble. Harley has a YouTube channel, but it just doesn't connect with riders. Their videos are overproduced and lack any real useful information. It is typical for large companies like Harley to fail on YouTube. They just haven't learned their way around YouTube yet and what viewers actually want. The Harley Marketing Team needs to take a step back and see the big picture. Last year in some sort of unorganized unveil they gave brand new Harley's to ungrateful Hollywood personalities who clearly did not care at all about the bikes. This sort of marketing is so behind the times and they must realize that core Harley riders don't care at all about Hollywood personalities. It actually upset the majority of Harley riders when they saw the unveil. This sort of outdated marketing doesn't connect with true Harley riders & was a complete waste of time and money for the Harley Marketing Team. Instead of chasing after Hollywood, old outdated print magazines, and dying radio, they need to do what many large companies have figured out years ago & are currently doing. Companies like Apple, DJI, and Samsung, just to name a few, have realized that working with YouTube creators and influencers is way more powerful than the old ways of doing business. This is how you truly connect with your customers these days. Today, customers want a more real world review from a YouTube creator they know, like, and trust, rather than some Hollywood star or personality they could care less about. They want an unbiased review from a creator that actually uses and tests the products they care about. An unbiased review holds way more weight than Harley or any big company trying to tell an audience how great their product is. These progressive companies as mentioned above give select YouTube creators & podcasters early access to information and products as to cause excitement with the audience and their customers. They then make sure these creators have access and are the first to review new products when there is an unveiling. This is nothing new and is very powerful, yet Harley has clearly not figured this out. Open your eyes, Harley. The Harley Marketing Team is failing to see the very large communities of core customers right on YouTube. All they'd have to do is read some of the comments on the videos on the Law Abiding Biker YouTube Channel to get a real feel of what their core customers like and don't like. The Harley Marketing Team should go after independent YouTube and podcast creators rather than persons with a YouTube channel that work for dealerships. Content and reviews just can't be completely unbiased if someone works for a dealership and Harley riders know this. That's just one suggestion of many that the Harley Marketing Team could work on. You'll have to listen in to this podcast episode to hear our passionate opinions into what we believe Harley is currently doing right and what they are doing wrong.
