Ep 283LAB-283-Shopping for Progressive Motorcycle Riding Jackets & Gear With Guest Brad Johnston

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Recently Patron Member Brad Johnston went through an exploration of progressive motorcycle jackets. Along the road, he realized it wasn't a destination to happiness for him. He realized he was not the only one to head down that road, after all, bikers are all a lot more alike than different. Brad hopes that by hearing his story, he helps bikers realize they are not alone. This is part of his contribution as a biker helping other bikers. Brad actually wrote a detailed article with links to all the gear we talk about in this episode! SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Here is an excerpt from Brad's article: "With my first Harley, I purchased a very progressive 4 season motorcycle jacket. The FXRG Switchback jacket. Zip-off leather panels left it as a mesh jacket and it had zip-out rain and thermal liners. I also ride with a Scorpion flannel with built-in kevlar panels in impact areas and pockets for armor. All filled with D30 CE level 1 armor. Two years ago I picked up a Street and Steel jacket that is textile and a hard finish. It looks just like the black hard-finished fleece jackets that are so popular in the spring and fall here in the northwest. The real difference is that it has pockets for armor and vents under the armpits. It has been a fantastic lightweight jacket. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Recently, the zipper broke on my FXRG jacket. Because of the lifetime warranty on FXRG gear, the zipper is going to get replaced. It got me shopping for a new progressive jacket though. Over the last month, I have done a lot of looking and I have done some soul searching. The conclusions I came to may be relevant to others." Ep 282LAB-282-Guest Patron Member Brad Johnston-Biker Talk & More!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Since creating Law Abiding Biker™ Media about 8 years ago, I have had the opportunity to meet so many awesome bikers within the motorcycle community. This community is so giving and has helped us so much along the way. There are so many unique backgrounds and life stories within the community. I love interviewing bikers and sharing their stories and experiences as I did so in this episode. I had the pleasure of interviewing Patron Member Brad Johnston of Redmond, Oregon. Prior to recording the podcast, we had spent the day in the Law Abiding Biker shop filming a rear Rockford Fosgate speaker install on his 2017 Harley Road Glide Special. That video will eventually release along with other stereo install videos here! SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Brad is another great example of the supportive biker community that surrounds Law Abiding Biker™ Media. He supports us financially as a Patron Member so we can continue to help, educate, entertain, and inspire as many bikes as we can worldwide. There are many benefits to becoming a Patron Member and one of them is being able to attend ride and meetup events, such as Brad has several times. In fact, Brad hosted a Patron Member ride in Oregon in 2020 and I produced a documentary film on that ride titled, Riding Motorcycles in Real America! CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Lurch and I had a great time talking with Brad, who is a retired law enforcement officer. In fact, he rose to be the Chief of the Astoria, Oregon Police Department. After retirement, Brad took on a new career of teaching but he still finds plenty of time to ride his Harley local and long-distance. He is very involved with the Patron community in the Private Facebook Group and we love having him as a member. Ep 281LAB-281-Installing Taller Aftermarket Handlebars on an Indian Challenger Project

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We spent the entire day installing 12" aftermarket handlebars on a 2020 Indian Challenger. The stock handlebars on these bikes are not comfortable for many riders and many just don't like the look of them. In this episode, we break down what you need to know if you're considering this handlebar install project on your Indian motorcycle. We wanted to film the entire install and make another awesome tutorial video for the biker community to save money and not have to take their Indian motorcycle to a dealership to do this. Our Indian Handlebar Install Video will eventually release, so keep checking back. If you have a Harley, then check out one of our awesome Harley Handlebar Install Tutorial Videos! SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Don't forget that you can get all our awesome premium motorcycle tutorial videos here! Or watch one of our 600+ free videos on our YouTube Channel. Don't forget to subscribe while you're there so you're notified when we release new videos! It is worth noting that Indian seems to leave enough wires, brake line, and throttle cable to install up to 14" aftermarket bars without having to extend those. If you go any taller than 14" then you'll need to extend those for sure. When released, our video will even show you that process. As we dug deeper into the Indian, we liked some of the engineering things they do but also like some things Harley does better. We learned so many things during this project that we share with you in this episode. Your Indian motorcycle may throw some diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) when doing this project and that's normal. We'll show you how to clear those codes within the Indian Ride Command infotainment system. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Our video will be very detailed and you'll be able to do this project right in your own shop or garage with standard tools. To get a ton of information, you'll need to listen to this podcast episode. Ep 280LAB-280-Installing New Front Suspension on a Harley Touring

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We spent the day installing aftermarket front suspension on Oscar's 2013 Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited. Of course, we filmed the entire project and it will eventually release on our YouTube Channel so make sure you're subscribed! In this episode, Oscar and I generally discuss the different options for aftermarket front suspension for Harley-Davidson motorcycles along with why you would want to do this. In Oscar's case, it was because his suspension was becoming very soft, which was affecting his front braking and making for a rough ride, especially when he had his passenger on the back. His front end was really dipping when applying the front brakes. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE You should also change out your front fork fluid at regularly recommended intervals. We discuss how to do this and also filmed it for release on our YouTube channel. Renewing your fork fluid can help with some front suspension issues you may be having. The procedures for this can vary a bit from year to year. This article is just an overview about changing out the front suspension on your Harley and you really need to listen in to this podcast episode as we go over all the fine details of this project. We talk about what we learned during this project, some tips and tricks, and things to avoid. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Ep 279LAB-279-Switching Back to a Two-Wheel Harley Ultra From a Trike?

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com About a year ago, Big Daddy Kane switched from a two-wheel Harley Ultra Limited to a Harley Tri-Glide trike. He was hoping that the trike would better serve his needs due to a few underlying medical issues. Well, there's only one way to find out, and that's to get a trike and ride the heck out of it. In episode 210 of the podcast, we had a great time discussing trikes and had another Haley Tri-glide rider present, Big Daddy Kane's dad. Take a listen! LAB-210-Why He Switched to a Harley-Davidson Trike & Real Biker Talk-Special Guest Rick Kane Sr. Big Daddy rode the heck out of his Harley trike over the past year. Most recently, he rode it 3200 miles during a 9-day trip to Sturgis 2020, the 80th Anniversary. He was also riding with his passenger during the trip and riding in our larger group of about 12 motorcycles. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Big Daddy started experiencing some issues as a trike obviously handles differently than a two-wheel motorcycle. There is a lot more pressure on your arms and wrists as you are not leaning but turning the bars through corners. You use your arms a lot more and he was experiencing arm fatigue and wrist pain due to a medical issue. He also found it difficult at times to keep up with the group, both while passing cars and during corners. Both are expected on a trike as you can't take corners as quickly and the heavier trike will not get up and go as fast while passing as a two-wheel Harley will. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! There are many other things you should know if you're considering a Harley trike. With that said, Big Daddy switched because of some particular issues he was having, which others may not have. The trike is certainly perfect for many riders out there. Big Daddy is just sharing his personal experiences and journey while trying a trike during this episode, so take a listen. Ultimately, Big Daddy traded in his Harley trike during Sturgis at Black Hills Harley-Davidson and left with a 2020 Harley Ultra Limited and he's loving it! That, along with many other things will be seen in my Sturgis 2020 documentary film when it's released! NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Surprise Visit to the Law Abiding Biker Motorcycle Store? Ep 278LAB-278-My Harley Pan America Review & Adventure In Sturgis With Lurch!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Harley-Davidson recently flew me to Sturgis to test ride and review the Pan America, their first adventure motorcycle. It was a very quick 4-day trip, 2 of those days being travel days. Understand, Harley-Davidson paid for the flights, meals, and lodging. However, no contract was mentioned or signed and I was never told what I could or could not say, so I will give you an unbiased real-world biker review as always. It's worth noting that I regularly ride street and adventure, so I was excited to test this new motorcycle. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE I took Lurch along as a production hand as we filmed the entire process and did a full review video on our YouTube Channel. You'll have to listen to this podcast episode and watch our official Harley Pan America review video to get all the details. Lurch and I give you an inside look at the intricate details of this trip and how it came all together. It's a true behind-the-scenes look. If you've ever wondered what it's like to be flown to Sturgis by Harley-Davidson and review a motorcycle then definitely listen to this podcast episode. SEE OUR OFFICIAL HARLEY PAN AMERICA VIDEO HERE! If you've ever ridden past those gravel and dirt roads and wondered where they went then you should consider the Pan America. Whether you are an experienced adventure motorcycle rider or new to riding off-road, I think this would be a great option. A newer off-road adventure rider could use the standard ride modes, instilling confidence & providing a level of safety while learning. Certainly, if a new rider wanted to progress from there they could enter more aggressive ride modes. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! I truly believe Harley-Davidson has changed Sturgis forever. Prior to the Harley Pan America, the Sturgis Rally was mostly comprised of street Harley riders that were glued to riding mostly paved roads. However, there is a massive amount of gravel and dirt roads throughout the Black Hills in South Dakota that are begging to be explored by riders. I think as we move forward you'll see more Harley Pan America adventure riders at Sturgis and that will bring both worlds closer together. And, I think that's a good thing. At the end of the day, we all ride for the same reasons, both on and off-road.......to free our souls, become one with our machines, and just breathe! Ep 276LAB-276-Tired of a Sore and Achy Ass When Riding Your Motorcycle? Guest Peter Hemmerich of Butt Buffer

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I had the pleasure of talking with Peter Hemmerich, owner of Butt Buffer, which is a company that produces high-quality medical-grade motorcycle seat cushions for riders. See my Butt Buffer Overview Video Here Peter first reached out to Law Abiding Biker™ Media in the spring of 2020 and we learned of these unique motorcycle seat cushions. I had Peter send over several models and sizes, so we could check them out. This was great timing as we were headed out to Sturgis 2020, the 80th Anniversary, in a few months. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE We put the Butt Buffer motorcycle seat cushions to the ultimate test, riding 9 days and 3300 miles to Sturgis and back home. They were tested by riders in our group on both touring and non-touring motorcycles. The riders that tested the seat cushions loved them and stated they really made a difference in comfort when laying down the miles during those long days in the saddle. I took it a step further and put a Butt Buffer motorcycle seat cushion on my Kawasaki KLR 650 during off-road adventure riding on multiple occasions and it worked great. The cushions strap down to the seat and have a non-slip surface underneath, which really helped it stay in place when riding more aggressively and when shifting around off-road. After our real-world testing, we knew we had to bring them right to the Official Law Abiding Biker Store and we've been selling the heck out of them ever since. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! You may think that you have the best seat on your motorcycle but I can tell you from experience that your butt will still get sore and achy if you're riding long distances and for multiple days. Additionally, many of us suffer from varying degrees of lower back pain, which can get worse during these long motorcycle road trips. Our findings were that the Butt Buffer definitely helps with both these issues. The Butt Buffer motorcycle seat cushion is unlike those other air and gel seat pads. It won't leak if punctured and won't freeze as gel pads will. It fits all motorcycle seats, installs in seconds, and you can easily clean the cover after removing the pad through a velcro closure. Further, the Butt Buffer is water and oil resistant and the materials used are hypo-allergenic. There are a couple of Butt Buffer motorcycle seat cushions to choose from: (**links to the Law Abiding Biker Store below. Support us if you appreciate all the free content we put out to help the biker community!) Classic Butt Buffer Seat Cushion Pebble Polymer Butt Buffer Offers all of the benefits of the Classic, however, it also comes with a premium air-flow cover to offer enhanced air circulation to your seat cushion. The Butt Buffer motorcycle seat cushion comes in three sizes. Small, medium, and large. Simply measure your seat and then head over to the Law Abiding Biker Store where we have the measurements, making it easy for you to choose the correct size. If you need a passenger cushion, most riders choose the small version but measure your passenger seat area for proper fitment. Installation of the Butt Buffer is a breeze and there are several options. Please see the video on this page for installation details. Ep 275LAB-275-Soundz Bagger Audio Amplifier/Speaker Install on a Harley-Real World Biker Review!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We spent a day filming and installing front speakers and amplifier on a 2015 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special and a 2015 Road Glide Special. The components we used are from a company called Soundz Bagger Audio. We had never heard of this company until several years ago when they came out with a device that would allow you to retro-fit your pre-2019 Harley touring model's Boom Box Infotainment System to the new Boom Box GTS Infotainment System, which comes on 2019 and newer touring models. That device from Soundz Bagger Audio is no longer needed, as Harley-Davidson has since made that retro-fit possible at a cheaper cost. (Make sure to listen in to this podcast episode to get even more details than mentioned in this article) We will be releasing a complete Soundz Bagger Audio front speakers and amplifier install video. So, keep checking back on our Premium Tutorial Videos Page Here. We show both a Street Glide and Road Glide install in our video! Note: We have no affiliation with Soundz Bagger Audio. We simply bought their products for real-world testing & review. Components and Ordering: When you visit the Soundz Bagger Audio website, there are many options for you to choose from depending on your audio needs for your Harley-Davidson. Once you select the speakers, amplifier, and other components you want, you submit a form and they call you the next business day. You can't actually purchase online using your card and you place your final order over the phone. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE For our install, we selected the Soundz Iron GT front fairing speakers and the SM4.100 4 channel 861 watt front amplifier. We did not do any rear speaker lid or front lower speakers for this install, but you can certainly add them on if you like. The Soundz Baggers Audio systems come with a pre-wired harness, all wires, and hardware for ease of installation. Interestingly, after we completed our basic order for submission, it was never mentioned nor recommended that we'd need a Techno Research Single License Scan Tool (SC-Alaris) to flash our Harley Boom Box system to their parameters after install. The next day we received a call to verify our online submission. It was at that time we were told we'd need the additional $150 scan tool to flash the Boom Box after install. Additionally, the online price we were given was a bit different than the final price. The final cost was $1100 for the speakers and amplifier, $150 for the scan tool, and $30 for shipping. Of course, all wiring, harnesses, and hardware are part of this package. So, the total price we paid was $1,280 US. The company was professional to deal with. This price is in line with other quality audio component installs we've done here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media, such as J&M, Rockford Fosgate, Harley Boom Audio, and Cycle Sounds. Digital Signal Processor (DSP) It's also worth noting, that with the Soundz Baggers Audio systems, you can add on an additional Digital Signal Processor (DSP), which will allow you to really spend time and dial in exactly how your system sounds based on your personal taste. We did not get this component and it's not required. Receiving the Components: We received the components timely. We were immediately impressed with the quality of what we saw. The speakers had large heavy magnets, dwarfing the stock Harley speaker magnets. The amplifier looked and felt of quality and had additional plates added to it, helping weather seal and protect it. The wire harnesses were neatly organized, heavy-duty, and had all the plugs you'd expect to see in a 2014 and newer Harley. All items were packaged very nicely. The scan tool came in a nice case and had the proper interface cables. Install Process & Lack of Instructions: We began filming and installing the Soundz Bagger Audio system on our Harley. Be aware, there are no install instructions that come with the components. There is a document included that tells you to go to their support tab on their website. Once there, we found many .pdf documents in an unorganized fashion. Some help a bit and others helped in no way at all. You are really on your own with no real support once you get the components delivered. However, with our very detailed install tutorial video, you'll easily get through it. We are excited, as we know our video will help so many bikers worldwide not be frustrated with the lack of instructions. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Luckily, with our experience with installing many Harley audio systems over the years, we were able to get through it. We believe that Soundz Baggers Audio mostly sells their systems at rally's and do the installs themselves, which is why they have not really produced detailed and thorough instructions for those that buy online. We learned that the Soundz Iron GT speaker magnets fit fine inside the stock Street Glide speaker p

To get up to speed, make sure to watch my video titled, The Real Harley-Davidson Pan America Adventure Touring Motorcycle Release-What You Want to Know! SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE With the adventure segment of the market already well established with bikes like the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, a direct competitor to the Pan America, a ton of market research and customer feedback was gathered prior to the creation of the Pan America. I learned during our conversation that Harley-Davidson did not go into this project lightly and really did their homework to make sure the Pan America would be a serious competitor in the adventure market, yet with its own unique style and flare. This is a completely new frame and an all new engine, the Revolution Max 1250 liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, V-twin engine, which has double overhead camshafts. Ep 273LAB-273-Update on The Gold Star Ride Foundation With Guest Anthony Price

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, we catch up with Anthony Price, executive director of the Gold Star Ride Foundation. It was back on September 16, 2019, when I first talked with Anthony Price in Episode 217 of the Law Abiding Biker Podcast. He has been very busy since that interview. You should definitely take a listen to that episode first. The Gold Star Ride Foundation honors our nation's fallen heroes by taking care of their families. And we deliver the goods in person. And we go on bikes. In 2018, Anthony did a single motorcycle ride spanning 18,000 miles, 44 states, 56 days of solid riding, and made contact with more than 60 Gold Star families. Anthony wrote a book after this ride named, Yours, Very Sincerely And Respectfully. Since that 56-day motorcycle ride, Anthony has settled down just a bit. He is still laser-focused on helping Gold Star Families but is not on the road for that long of a span anymore. Although, he still rides his Harley many miles and days to meet with families from all over. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Anthony says they help Gold Star Families in many different ways and it's tailored to their personal situation and needs. This is why Anthony meets in person with the families, to get a real feel of the history and situation. It can be helping a child with college fees or stocking cabinets with groceries. The foundation is just there to help in any way it can. Anthony says the privacy of the families is of the utmost importance and the foundation does not reach out to them. The families must contact the foundation to get things started. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The mission of the Gold Star Ride Foundations is as follows: "The Gold Star Ride Foundation will actively support, comfort, and provide education benefits to Gold Star Families throughout the United States and will provide these things directly with personal visits via motorcycle; and we will support those other organizations that work to assist in these same activities." Ep 272LAB-272-Dealing With Toxic Motorcycle Club Members & How to Avoid Getting Them

E

How do you deal with a toxic motorcycle club member that is making things difficult within? As a member or leader within the club, how do you deal with this before it ruins a club or more members leave because of it? We talk about this in great depth in this episode and it is based on a voicemail we received asking the question. You can leave us a voicemail from your phone or computer anytime! SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Many will say to just remove the member from the club. But, that will be totally dependent on a club's rules and standard protocols. There are so many different motorcycle clubs and riding groups out there and each of them has its own bylaws to follow. So, it may not be as easy as just removing a member without a popular vote as an example. Of course, communications among the toxic motorcycle club member and anyone involved will be the most important. If it's an issue between two members, then they need to talk to each other directly and try to work things out. For success, this should only be in person and not over email or text messages as things can be misinterpreted without being able to observe in-person body language, voice tone, and voice inflection. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Although a delicate matter, a toxic member's actions within a club may due to outside issues they are facing such as family problems or a sick relative. If that information can be obtained, then the club can consider assisting the member with those issues and agree on a leave of absence until the outside matter is resolved. Discipline by club leaders or a suspension may be an option if it can't be resolved by other means. But, again this will be heavily dependent on the bylaws in place. So, make certain your motorcycle club's bylaws are properly written and have safeguards and options should something like this arise. The best way to deal with a toxic motorcycle club member is to never let them into the club in the first place. This is where the bylaws will become most important. There needs to be in place strict protocols and requirements for vetting prospective members. There should be no fast entry into a club and minimum times for probationary periods, regardless of how likable a person is. Current club members must really spend a lot of time with a prospective member during the evaluation period. Background checks should be done to include, social media checks, criminal background checks, and talking with others that know or work with them. Riding long distances and spending time with prospective members is how you'll learn what they are actually about and if they're a good fit. And if you think the prospective member is ready for full membership into the motorcycle club at some point, then a 100% vote should be required by current members. If there is just one person that's not in agreement then that will just fester and cause issues down the road and you'll be dealing with a toxic member. Don't be one of the many motorcycle clubs that let anyone joins and just sell their patches. That is a recipe for disaster and there are a ton of stories about why that fails. If you truly aren't concerned with numbers and only care about quality, not quantity, then you'll be far less likely to ever have to deal with a toxic member and avoid an array of other issues. This only a small amount of information contained within this podcast episode, so make sure to listen in. Ep 271LAB-271-Adventure, Dual Sport, & Dirt Motorcycle Riding in 2021-What's Going On?

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com If you haven't been watching the adventure, dual-sport, enduro, and dirt motorcycle markets here in 2021 you really should. Just be careful, because there are so many new bikes and models coming out it will make your head spin. The manufacturers are putting new models out like never before. Oscar is on a microphone with me in this podcast episode and he just bought a new Kawasaki KLX300 for himself and a Kawasaki KLX 140 for his younger daughter. Oscar's new KLX300 is a dual-sport motorcycle and street legal but ready for some moderate off-road riding. This does not replace his 2017 Kawasaki KLR 650 and is really so he can spend a bit more time on the dirt with his daughter. When Oscar and I head out for a day of adventure riding we'll be taking our KLR 650's for sure. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Oscar said the demand for these sorts of motorcycles is making dealerships less likely to give any deals at the time of purchase. They seem to be selling them before they even have them in stock. This is likely due to Covid as social restrictions have led many to outdoor activities such as riding motorcycles. It seems every company is in a race right now to make the perfect middle-weight dual-sport/adventure motorcycle. However, this could prove impossible, because at the end of the day it's going to be dependent on what kind of riding you want to do. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! It's worth noting that after Kawasaki discontinued the KLR 650 in 2018, they've now released a new 2021 model. We were not impressed and were hoping for something better. Really, they made it fuel injected and gave it some small incremental upgrades. With that said, it's still an affordable and reliable adventure/dual-sport bike. In this podcast episode, we are going to try and make sense of it all for you and what you should know about the markets. We talk about many of the new bikes that have come out. Ep 268LAB-268-Motorcycles, Music and the Impact They Have on the Biker Culture

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com This article is written by Richard Kane, "Big Daddy Kane" or "BDK", as many of you know him as. Since the very first motorcycle was built, motorcycles have enacted a passion in people. Whether it is the thrill of the ride, the sense of adventure or just the feeling of getting away from the norm from time to time people have enjoyed the two-wheeled wonder. Equally, music does the same for people and I believe music and motorcycles go hand in hand as they say. Please note, these are not my top ten favorite songs to listen to while riding. This is a list I put together based on several factors. The factors include impact, age, and genre. Music, even since the early days of motorcycling has been a part of the culture in my opinion. Concerts at rallies, listening to music while riding, or just stopping by a small bar with a local band playing cover tunes while out on a day ride are common. From the British mod subculture, to American war veterans, to the chopper culture of the 60's and 70's, then the 80's comeback of H-D with a huge tie to southern rock music has always been an influence. My list below is not in any particular order and you may, or may not agree. In our Private Patron Member Only Facebook Group, we often discuss different music topics. Again, showing a very close relation to music and motorcycles. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE To acquire this list I have done many hours of research. As a music fan that has over 150 vinyl records, 200 CD's and thousands of digital downloads I was careful to focus the list on the impact the band, and song has had on motorcycle culture. Some songs are obviously for the older generations, but others will no doubt influence the younger riders. For example in Sturgis this year I witnessed two "clubbers" of different generations ride past me. One, an older man wearing common biker wear such as jeans, boots, and a vest. Blaring from his Ultra was classic southern rock as he pulled into the clubhouse off of Main St. Soon after him came a younger member wearing long shorts and high tops. Booming from his stereo was modern rap/hip hop. It's obvious music tastes have changed among riders. #1-Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf- This is an easy one and if not included in this list I believe the validity of the list in general is compromised. "Get your motor running" is the first thing that comes to mind with this song. I personally saw Steppenwolf at a rally in 1996 and the men and women in the crowd went nuts. The song is a common anthem and while Steppenwolf as a band is not one of my favorites the impact of the song makes it a must have on this list. #2-Sympathy For the Devil by The Rolling Stones– This classic from the American blues inspired band is a classic. This band has spanned from the 60's where the mods favored rockabilly, early rock and roll, motorcycles and leather jackets to today. The Rolling Stones inspired many British and American kids alike. The song tells a tale of history from the Russian Czar to an American President. A favorite of many motorcycle riders the song is one that allows you to lean back and just cruise. #3-Rambling Man by the Allman Brothers Band– Can you really have a list such as this without these southern rock icons. Greg Allman, often considered one of the top guitarists of all time, passed away too soon. This classic just soothes getting out on the open road to enjoy the adventure waiting ahead. It brings to mind getting on the bike with minimal plans or expectations and letting the day, and ride be in charge. Like many bikers we do not like to stay in one place on our rides. Ramble on riders! #4-Free Bird by Lynard Skynard– Try going to any motorcycle rally without hearing this song! Lynard Skynyrd has become an icon of rallies and I can tell you after seeing them live in Sturgis in 1999 I became a bigger fan. The song inspires you to be free, ride and enjoy the moment. Riders of several age groups can't help to sing along whether it's at a concert, in a bar, or even on their bike. Considered by many the quintessential motorcycle song. #5-Highway Song by Blackfoot– This song just conjures up the thoughts of being on the road, probably alone, and letting the highway lead you to your destination even though you may not know where you're going. The song is long, yes. But, imagine you and hundreds of riders singing along at the same time while you have your arm around your gal. An ode to the highway and the adventures it brings. #6-Wherever I May Roam by Metallica– This classic by Metallica is an ode to touring the road as a band, but is easily applicable to motorcycle riders. For those in their 40's we remember Metallica very well and the lyrics speak to them. Just like Highway Song for those in their 50's and 60's this song is easily their equivalent anthem. When the guitars of Kirk Hammet hit you in the gut you just have to play air guitar as the cruise control

Ep 267LAB-267-Harley Pan America Adventure Touring Motorcycle Release | Our Thoughts and Opinions

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Harley-Davidson released their first adventure touring motorcycle, the Pan America, on February 22, 2021, via a scheduled YouTube video release. The video was a short documentary of sorts highlighting the history of Harley-Davidson. It then moved into the Pan America reveal but lacked overall information on what most riders want to know. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE So, in this podcast episode, we tell you what you actually want to know about the Harley Pan America and how it stands up to the competition in the current adventure-touring market, such as the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, to name just one competitor. The Pan America has more horsepower, while the GS 1250 has more torque. But, both motorcycles are definitely comparable and have many options and comforts. See my Harley Pan America Overview Video Here There are two models to choose from, the Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 special. The special model comes with additional standard equipment and some factory install options that you'll pay for at the time of purchase. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Admittedly, I was a bit concerned that Harley-Davidson would release a sub-standard adventure bike that would be overpriced for the market, especially after we saw the release of the Livewire, their first electric motorcycle. However, I was pleasantly surprised and I can say that the Harley Pan America is definitely a competitor now in the adventure touring market, both in regards to equipment and price. Make sure to listen in to get all the details of the new Pan America and our overall thoughts and opinions. Ep 266LAB-266-Motorcycles, Drones, Auto Tracking, & Manual Flight-The Facts!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com If you've ever been curious about getting and flying a drone to capture cool shots of your motorcycle rides or experiences, this is the episode for you. Many may think you can just buy a drone and that it's really easy. That's not true, as there are so many different drones and each one has its strong points and weak points. After purchase, you'll need to fully educate yourself prior to taking flight. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE I have been flying drones for video productions for 9 years now and I can tell you that the industry and technology have changed rapidly during that time and continues to do so. As soon as the FAA required commercial pilots to be licensed, I obtained my part 107 certificate and have had it ever since. I am also a police drone pilot and trainer. I hope all of this qualifies me to talk about this subject matter. SEE MY POPULAR DRONE REVIEW VIDEO: Auto Tracking Motorcycles With Drones-DJI Mavic vs. Skydio If you think you are going to get a drone and then fly it whenever and wherever you want, please don't. I encourage you to do the proper research just as if you were going to drive a car on the roads for the first time. There are many rules and requirements that are regulated by the FAA. You may or may not have to register your drone with the FAA. And you may need to be properly licensed depending on certain things. I dive in deep, so listen in to this episode for all the details. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! I also explain the differences between the autonomous functions of drones and manual flight. There are so many different drones and each pilot has different needs based on the project. No drone is perfect in every way, so before you buy one you'll want to know your particular needs and research heavily. That's why many of us have multiple drones in our fleet. We use specific drones for a particular projects. If you want to know what it's like and the hard work involved prior to and while shooting one of my cross motorcycle road trip documentaries, you should listen in for sure. It might make you reconsider getting a drone at all. Of course, the drone is only one piece of the camera gear that I use for these projects. Ep 265LAB-265-Progressive Motorcycle Riding Gear We Tested During our Sturgis Trip 2020!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, Lurch and I go over some awesome new progressive motorcycle riding gear we personally selected that we tested during our ride to and while we were at Sturgis 2020. Riding gear has come along way since I first started riding many years ago and I love testing and reviewing it for the biker community. With so many options to choose from, I hope reviews such as this will help you cut through all the noise so you can spend your hard-earned money wisely. I want to thank the team at Revzilla for sending me this latest batch of riding gear for testing and review. I have been given the gear at no cost but am not being paid for the testing and reviews and there are no strings attached to what I say. As always, I will give you my honest opinions with both the pros and the cons. The gear Lurch is reviewing he personally bought through Revzilla and he will also give you an honest review. Please support us and consider purchasing any of the riding gear items we mentioned through our Revzilla Affiliate Link Here or through any of the riding gear links below. I want my gear to be functional and comfortable both on and off the motorcycle. I love being able to ride all day knowing I'm protected, get to a location or event, and then walk around in my riding gear without actually looking like I got off a motorcycle. Ep 264LAB-264-Sea 2 Sea 4 PTSD Motorcycle Ride-Guest Ronald Moore

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I had the pleasure of talking with Ron Moore Jr. in this episode about his upcoming motorcycle ride and his fight for those veterans and first responders that suffer from PTSD. He served 5 years of active duty in the United States Air Force and then became a paramedic and served his community for 7 years. In 2019 that all came to an end when his PTSD affected his job and home life. Since then, he says he takes it one day at a time, and riding a motorcycle seems to keep his demons at bay. He also wants to let other veterans know that they are not alone in their fight with PTSD. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE So, he decided to organize and create a charity and awareness ride for those suffering from PTSD. Ron will leave Leesburg, Florida on June 20 and arrive in Tacoma, WA on June 26, 2021. This is a 3,050-mile one-way trip and he'll be riding his 2020 Harley-Davidson Low Rider S. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Each day Ron will stop at pre-determined locations and times along his route. This can all be found on the Sea 2 Sea 4 PTSD website or Facebook page. If you'd like to ride any leg of the trip with Ron, you are more than welcome to do so he says. Just meet him at one of the pre-determined locations and times and head out to ride with him. You can break off from the ride any time you wish. You can also just meet him at a location to say a quick hi and to show your support. Ep 263LAB-263-Harley 2021 Model Lineup & More!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this podcast episode, I explain what you need to know about the new 2021 Harley-Davidson model line-up. These were all revealed at Harley's first-ever global virtual launch event held online on January 19, 2021. I put a video out on our YouTube Channel shortly after the event. SEE VIDEO-The Real 2021 Harley Model Event-The Facts & Issues You Need to Know!! There are some issues I discovered, such as the new 2021 Harley touring models are coming with a cable clutch instead of a hydraulic clutch that has been on touring models since 2014. There were some recalls on the hydraulic clutch system over the years but it seemed to have been resolved. We really have no idea why Harley did this because these are supposed to be "premium motorcycles" and cable clutches are yesterday's technology. I think this is going to irritate many customers since other motorcycle companies are using hydraulic clutches. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE And it seems at this time that you can no longer put current model aftermarket electronic fuel injection (EFI) tuners on your Harley. They seemed to have changed the data port, so the current tuners won't plug into the engine control module (ECM). I have no doubt though, that aftermarket EFI tuner companies are already working on a solution for this, so it will just be a matter of time. Until then, you can only use a Harley Screamin' Eagle (SE) EFI tuner but they are terrible and don't do much as far as tuning. Harley can use and sell the SE tuner because it is restricted and therefore EPA compliant. This is also likely the reason Harley had to make this overall data port change, to try and block aftermarket tuners that are not restricted. The new Harley CVO line-up will be the Street Glide, Road Glide, Limited, and Tri-Glide, which all have several paint options. They will be coming with the Milwaukee-Eight 117 ci. V-Twin engine. Harley partnered with Rockford Fosgate and the Street Glide CVO and Road Glide CVO will not come with the Harley Audio by Rockford Fosgate Stage 2 Audio system. The Limited and Tri-Glide will come with the standard Boom Audio Stage 1. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The Harley "special" series models will be the Street Glide, Road Glide, and Road King. Harley may have been listening to customers because you now have a black or chrome option on the Street Glide Special and Road Glide Special but not on the Road King Special. Many traditional chrome lovers were not happy that the special models only came in a blacked-out option over the past years. These special models will have the Milwaukee-Eight 114 ci. V-Twin engine. Also revealed were the Street Bob 114 and the iconic Fat Boy for 2021 and they both look great. Overall, the bikes and paint options look great on these 2021 Harley models and I'm excited to see them in person at some point. It's also worth noting that on February 22, 2021, Harley released their first adventure touring motorcycle, the Pan America. For more info, see my video and article below. Ep 262LAB-262-The Ideal Motor Company in 2021 for a Younger Generation? Guest-Michael Rubinson-28 years old

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Harley-Davidson has been making a ton of changes to the overall company structure in 2020. I've released several highly viewed videos on our YouTube channel in reference to this subject and I'll list them below along with some related podcast episodes we've done. It seems the temporary CEO, Jochen Zeitz, is trying to realign the company and has even pulled out of some overseas markets. Per Zeitz, the company is going to focus most of its efforts on its current line up of bikes and on its current core customers, while still trying to attract a new generation of riders. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE In this podcast episode, I brought on guest Michael Rubinson, who is a 28-year-old rider and currently rides a Yamaha cruiser. He would really like to buy a Harley but the Motor Company has put up many barriers to entry over the years when it comes to attracting that younger generation of rider. Michael and I discuss many of those barriers and what Harley should do in 2021 to not only serve its current core customers and riders but to try and break down the entry barriers to younger riders. Ep 261LAB-261-Motorcycle Road Racer Mallory Dobbs Interview

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I had the pleasure of speaking with Mallory Dobbs of Olympia, Washington in this episode about motorcycle road racing. Mallory Dobbs is a 26-year-old female motorcycle road racer from Olympia Washington. Since she was 10 years old she's ridden and shown horses all across the United States. After showing horses for nearly 14 years she decided she wanted to adventure into new and different hobbies. Some people describe Mallory as an adrenaline junkie as she raced drag cars with her dad at the age of 16. Mallory purchased her very first motorcycle in the summer of 2016. It wasn't too long after that she found herself attending a track day down in California with a bunch of strangers that welcomed her to the track family. At the end of the summer, she formed a race team with them called Hobbit Racing. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Mallory started her motorcycle road racing career the very next summer in 2017 on the Washington Road Racing Association Circuit with her 2003 Yamaha R6. She has volunteered with multiple track day organizations including Optimum Performance Rider Training (OPRT) and 2 fast track days. With such a short motorcycle road racing career, Mallory says she's humbled to have such great success. Her 2020 race season far exceeded her expectations. Ep 256LAB-256-Harley-Davidson Oil Transfer or Migration Problem-The Facts

E

Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com For some time Harley-Davidson has had an oil transfer or migration problem on certain touring models and they are still trying to figure it out. Listen in to this entire podcast episode to learn what it's all about and how to diagnose it. In this written article below are just the highlights. I try and keep it fairly basic and easy to understand. Also, learn about the Harley Milwaukee-Eight "Oil Sumping" Problem here! Introduction to the Harley oil transfer problem: Harley oil transfer is when oil moves over from the transmission into the primary case. This eventually leaves the transmission very low on oil and the primary with too much oil. Of course, a transmission with low or no oil will certainly fail and need to be repaired or completely replaced. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Understand, there will always be a small amount of Harley oil transfer between the transmission and primary cases (small amounts-2 oz or so). This is normal and it's only when larger amounts are transferring that causes issues. This has been a frustrating issue for Harley over the years because it doesn't happen to all of their motorcycles. There are two shafts in the transmission, the main shaft and the countershaft, both having 6 gears. When the gears are turning, air and oil get blended and mixed around covering everything, and pressure is created. To help with the pressure, Harley designed a breathing transmission which is why you'll see the vent hose on the top of your transmission. The main shaft of the transmission extends all the way over to the primary side (right side). A push rod goes all the way through the hollow main shaft and it engages and disengages the clutch basket. The primary case has the clutch, compensator, primary chain and is an oil bath system. The oil here also gets blended and creates pressure when things are turning. This pressure is supposed to be relieved through the hollow main transmission shaft and back into the transmission and breath through the same transmission breather tube. Clearly this method is not working all the time and there are issues. 2014-2016 Twin Cam: Harley tried to fix this on the 2014-2016 twin cam models. Engineers resigned the main seal and spacer between the transmission and primary for closer tolerances. This seemed to fix the issue for those bikes that experienced it. 2017 & newer Milwaukee-Eight: In 2017 Harley released the Milwaukee-Eight motor and it didn't take long for the same issue to arise on select bikes. Harley oil transfer is isolated to touring models and especially those that are ridden long distances, which really blends the oil, builds pressure, and gives the oil much time to slowly transfer over. Those who ride short distances and don't ride often will likely never see the problem as there is not enough time for it to take effect. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Harley made a kit for the M8 that contains a transmission gasket and oil deflector called a "slinger" to combat the issue. The slinger is installed at the end of the hollow main transmission shaft and is supposed to sling oil away from it so there will be no oil transfer through it. Then came the 2018 and newer M8 models and the same Harley oil transfer problem existed. Harley made another kit for these models. The kit is basically a breather hose with a plastic shoe. A hole is drilled in the backside of the primary case and the breather hose (vent) is installed. This new breather vent is to prevent the vacuum effect on the transmission, thus stopping the pulling of oil from the transmission by the primary. This kit is only being put on those bikes that actually have the issue. How to determine whether this is an issue with your bike: The best way to find out if the Harley oil transfer issue is happening on your Harley is to check your transmission oil level, especially on longer rides. If you see no leaks around your Harley and your transmission oil is getting low then you likely have the issue. Also, your primary case will be overfilled with oil when checked. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com It's well known that Harley has been struggling for some time and sales have been declining steadily year to year. Ep 251LAB-251-Two New Leaked Harley Models & Other Future Model News!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Harley has been trying to reach a broader customer base as it's certainly important to their future existence. So, back in July 2018, Harley announced its "More Roads to Harley" strategy. If you haven't already, you should really get up to speed and watch my video on CEO Matthew Levatich quitting and the current state of the Motor Company. Harley is trying to be innovative with the late 2019 announcement of the Pan America Adventure Bike and the Bronx Streetfighter. These two bikes are scheduled to go into production later this year. I'm personally most excited to see the Pan America but I fear as Harley's first adventure bike it will be way overpriced for most riders like their first electric motorcycle, the Livewire. The images of these two new leaked models first appeared in a document released to Harley-Davidson investors in late September 2019 but since then Harley has filed design patents with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Both the Pan America and Bronx will have the Revolution Max engine and it seems that the same engine will be carried over to the two newest models we talk about in this podcast episode. First Leaked Harley is a Flat Tracker: This new model seems to be loosely modeled off the XG750R Flat Tracker and it can be seen in the shape of the tank, the seat, and the two stacked exhaust pipes on the right side. It appears the script on the air cleaner housing reads "975", indicating it's the same version of the engine used in the Bronx Streetfighter. That means a claimed 115 hp and 70 pound-feet. The flat tracker's chassis appears similar to the Bronx, with the same forks and Brembo front brakes but the tubular, triangulated swingarm is different. One thing that really stands out on this bike for me is the triangulated tubing coming off the left side to situate the signals, brake light, and license plate. And that square style headlight looks cool. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Second Leaked Harley is a Cafe Racer: Like the flat tracker, the cafe racer seems to be based on the 975cc Revolution Max engine from the Bronx. It's worth noting that this cafe racer model is likely to appear later this year as a 2021 model. The chassis is similar to the Bronx and the flat tracker and it has the same front suspension and brakes. But, it looks like it gets its own simple straight design swingarm. A more notable item on this bike is the rear twin shocks rather than the more traditional rising-rate mono-shock. The cafe racer is a new arena for Harley-Davidson to enter. Although the bike is definitely a cafe racer, it sill has a very Harley flare to it. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Some of the other notable items on this leaked Harley is the small minimal nose cowl that looks like the one on my Dyna Low Rider. Ep 250LAB-250-Harley Milwaukee-Eight Oil Sumping Issue | The Facts!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com There is an ongoing oil sumping issue with some Harley-Davidson motorcycles equipped with the 2017-2019 Milwaukee-Eight motor and you should definitely be aware of so you know if your bike is affected. Oil sumping or wet sumping is a condition where oil, instead of returning to the oil tank, builds up in the crankcase and cam gearcase, causing excessive friction and power loss. Sumping is when the suction side of the oil pump does not remove enough oil from the crankcase. When the flywheels rotate in the oil they turn it into an aerated state. Thus, oil gets trapped in the crankcase and does not return to pump. The Milwaukee-Eight oil sumping issue is because the stock oil pump may be inadequate. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE If you ride short distances, you'll likely never experience the sumping issue. After a shorter ride, the bike will build up oil in the crankcase and then you'll shut the bike down. On the next startup and idle, the crankcase will empty and you'll never become aware of the issue. The Milwaukee-Eight oil sumping issue happens over time, so if you ride harder on those twisties or ride long distances at higher speeds on the highways, the issue is more likely to reveal itself. It's during these times the oil can build up in the crankcase. The Milwaukee-Eight oiling system requires a fine balancing act to maintain the correct amount of oil pressure, oil volume and scavenging to eliminate wet-sumping while maintaining quiet operation and optimized power production without generating excessive heat. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Consequences: Oil sumping will result in excessive friction and power loss to your Harley M8 engine. Excess crankcase oil is whipped into a froth of air and oil by the flywheel. This condition is called oil aeration. Aerated oil makes scavenging much more difficult and can hinder the return of oil from the rocker box area. The combination of these conditions often results in oil being forced out the head breathers, air cleaner contamination, oil leaks, loss of oil supply, lifter clatter, premature component wear, and potential engine failure. Symptoms: You may get excessive oil blowback from the crank breathers inside your air intake. You may see excessive oil splattered along the right side of your bike while riding hard or long distances. Your air filter may become saturated with engine oil. You may feel your bike has slightly less powerful as it would on a normal hot day. But eventually, the oil in the crankcase builds to the point that the crank is sloshing through the oil as it gets deeper in the crankcase. Eventually, the crankcase fills leaving massive rotational resistance. Efforts to accelerate are met with no response. The engine simply can't rapidly change rotational speed because of the resistance. Engine failure comes from there being so much oil build up in the crankcase, that the pan is starved leaving no oil to be pumped to the top end. The engine also overheats just from all the resistance of too much oil in the crankcase. The engine begins to overheat and components such as bearings, lifters, and worse, begin to fail. The rider will never see an oil light which is quite disturbing and a significant design flaw. The fix: Installing a new 2020 Harley oil pump is the only fix, which now comes stock on those 2020 and newer Harley models with the Milwaukee-Eight motor. Clearly Harley is aware of the oil sumping issue, which is why they re-designed the oil pump for the 2020 models and factory install it. The dealerships will not say much about oil sumping in general and will just recommend you upgrade to the new 2020 oil pump for "better oil control and better oiling performance." At your expense of course. By installing the new 2020 Harley oil pump you'll avoid the Milwaukee-Eight oil sumping issue altogether. Harley OEM oil pump kits: Oil cooled M8-HD Part# 62400238 Twin-Cooled HD Part# 62400247 Note: There are some aftermarket companies also making a replacement oil pump that provide even better oil performance. **If you appreciate all the free content we put out to help the biker community, please consider purchasing an aftermarket oil pump through our affiliates. Get an aftermarket oil pump: Revzilla | J&P Cycles | Amazon Oil pump changes: The big changes to this new 2020 oil pump are in the scavenger gears. The original/faulty oil pump had a 10 tooth scavenger gear and the new oil pump comes with an 8 tooth scavenger gear, which will scavenge more oil out the M8. The new oil pump body was made to size for the smaller scavenger gear set. The older faulty oil pump was designed to scavenge 60% from the cam cover area and 40% from the crankcase. The new 2020 oil pump is a 50/50 split when scavenging oi

Ep 249LAB-249-Harley TV & The 2020 Harley GMC Pickup

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I recently received an email from Harley-Davidson. The email said, "watch hours of video footage on Harley-Davidson TV. We're kicking it off with a never before seen documentary about Wille G Davidson." So, I headed over to check it out. I think Harley-Davidson is trying new things with the recent resignation of CEO Matthew Levatich. For years now, the Motor Company has been struggling to find its way into the future. Listen in to this podcast episode to get all the details. As usual, and with the new Harley TV, the company decided to try to do things on their own instead of going to where their core and prospective customers are actually hanging out. They created their own Harley TV website page instead of going to YouTube with the new content. Motorcyclists are already on YouTube, which has a great algorithm for suggesting videos to viewers. YouTube, owned by Google, is the second-largest search engine in the world. Harley would have gotten a ton more views and engagement on YouTube because everyone is already there. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE I'm not trying to be too negative here and the few programs that are on Harley TV are actually interesting. However, there is a schedule like you'd see on cable TV and often they claim it's "live". But it's not, and the same programs and content just repeat day after day. The content is not even on-demand like YouTube where you can pick where and when you want to view it. You have to wait for a certain time to watch a rerun on Harley TV, and that won't cut it these days with all the on-demand services. In my opinion, Harley TV is something that may have worked for them 10 years ago. The entire platform is really clunky right now and I see daily changes and issues. The menus don't even work correctly and each day I try them I get taken somewhere different. Many times the videos won't even play. It seems Harley rolled this out well before it was ready as they often do with things. In my opinion, Harley TV will likely fizzle out over time and it seems it already is. I just can't see bikers remembering to go over to an entirely different platform to routinely check in on Harley TV. Most bikers just don't have time for that and will forget it. Us bikers already on enough content platforms we're on. Harley TV would need to have some amazing content that was constantly new for bikers to consistently stray from on-demand platforms such as YouTube or Netflix. With all that said, I hope the best for Harley TV and I hope they can get things ironed out over on the website so it actually works. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Next, we talk about the new 2020 Harley-Davidson GMC pickup in this podcast episode. The following is taken from a January 10, 2020 press release. Harley-Davidson Motor Company (NYSE:HOG) and Tuscany Motor Co. will introduce the first Harley-Davidson branded GMC pickup in history at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona in Quarter 1 of 2020. Only 250 Harley-Davidson branded GMC Sierra trucks will be available through select authorized GMC/Tuscany dealers in North America. The new Harley GMC pickup includes over 65 edition-specific components that make the 2020 model truck distinctly Harley-Davidson. They say the styling was inspired by the famous Harley-Davidson Fat Boy model. It appears Tuscany will provide the GMC Sierra and manufacture the interior and exterior components under Harley-Davidson's direction. The 2020 Harley-Davidson GMC will be available for delivery to the retail public at select authorized GMC dealers beginning February 2020. The new Harley GMC pickup has an MSRP of $94,995. Ep 248LAB-248-Harley Boom Box Infotainment GTS Upgrade or The Sony XAV-AX7000 as an Alternative?

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We upgraded a 2016 Ultra-Limited that had the older Harley-Davidson Boom Box Infotainment 6.5 GT to the new Boom Box GTS, which came out on the 2019 and newer Harley touring models. We filmed the install and will release that video on our Y0uTube channel, so get subscribed right away. (see our install video) Converting to the newer Harley Boom Box Infotainment GTS System: As of November 2019, Harley-Davidson made it possible to upgrade your older system to the new 2019 Boom Box GTS on those 2014-2018 touring models. Visiting Harley's website, it seems they are marketing and describing this conversion kit more towards upgrading from the smaller 4.3 non-touchscreen unit to the new GTS unit but you can upgrade from either the smaller 4.3 unit or the larger 6.5 GT unit. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE For 14-18 Harley models, they state that an additional USB connector needs to be purchased for around $35-$50 but you can't even find the part on their own website at the time of this article. Further, we found during our install that it's not even required. This USB connector is the one that plugs into the rear of the Boom Box unit and it is already inside your jukebox compartment where you can plug in your smartphone or USB drive. We just used the USB connector that's already there instead of installing a new one and all works perfectly. And that goes for all the other new cables that come in the box with the new Boom Box GTS such as am/fm antenna a GPS antenna. We didn't use any of the new cables and used the ones already routed and installed and all works perfectly. Also, be aware that if you have XM radio and have installed the module on the rear of your older 6.5 GT unit you don't need a new one. Just remove your XM radio module and install it on the new Harley Boom Box GTS unit and all will work fine. Check out all of our very helpful Boom Box Tutorial Videos for 2014 to present units! We sell a ton of these tutorial videos and are praised by bikers worldwide. Learn everything you need to know to get the most out of the Harley Boom Box system and how to integrate and use Harley Ride Planner! Note: After upgrading to the new Boom Box GTS unit, you'll need to visit a dealership so they can flash the unit with their Digital Technician II software. Until then the unit will beep at you every 15 seconds or so, regardless if it's on or off. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Ep 247LAB-247-Long Distance Street Motorcycle Riding-Tips, Tricks, & Experience

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, we discuss long distance street motorcycle riding and everything that surrounds it. Long distance riding is such a broad subject, so Squid and I keep it narrowly focused on our experiences over the years and what works and what doesn't work. Squid and I have both tested a bunch of street motorcycle riding gear over time. Some of it worked and other gear now sits on a shelf in a pile of "what did not work so well." SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE We talk motorcycle riding gear such as jackets, pants, helmets, gloves, riding shoes, and heated gear. We also discuss other emergency roadside repair items we carry or have personally used. For the most part, neither Squid nor I use leather anymore. Yes, we used to ride with leather as we knew no better. Then we started discovering all the progressive motorcycle riding gear that is lighter, waterproof, heated, and actually provides more protection than leather for our type of riding. Ep 245LAB-245-The Kawasaki KLR 650's Production Run is Over | But the Bike Lives On!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Having ridden street bikes for many years now, I wanted to also get into adventure and off-road riding. So, after much thought and research, I selected the Kawasaki KLR 650 as my first adventure bike. I found a nice barely used 2018 KLR for sale and bought it in the fall of 2019. Oscar and I drove from Washington to Oregon to pick up this little gem that looked like it just came off the showroom floor with only 109 miles on it. Check out my video titled, "I Just Bought & Rode My First Adventure Motorcycle? Am I Hooked?" The Kawasaki KLR had a long run from 1987-2018. Anyone who's been involved with any sort of adventure or dual-sport riding is very familiar with this bike and everyone has an opinion about it. The KLR clearly made it for so many years because so many riders liked it. There have probably been more international discovery rides taken by Americans riding a KLR than almost any other motorcycle. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE The Kawasaki KLR was really thought as of the best all-around bullet-proof adventure bike for many years. I think it's safe to say that there are more aftermarket parts available for the KLR than any other bike in its class. Entire businesses have been built around making and selling parts for the KLR. Now that the KLR is not being produced, you'll have to look for a good used one. There will still be plenty of used KLR's for sale and there are still a few brand new 2018 models at select dealerships, but that is fading. Oh, and don't worry, you'll be able to get aftermarket parts for the KLR for many years to come. Imagine how many Kawasaki KLR's are still around after 32 model years of production. It will be interesting to watch and see if Kawasaki comes up with a replacement for the KLR to compete in this fast-growing category of lighter weight "do it all" dual-sport adventure bike. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Although the KLR's production run is over, it's not going anywhere in the adventure bike scene any time soon. Ep 244LAB-244-Setting Motorcycle Suspension Sag & Adjusting Preload

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Setting your motorcycle suspension sag by adjusting preload on your rear shocks is very important. It affects the geometry of your motorcycle and how it handles overall. This doesn't need to be a complicated process as many make it seem in other online videos and articles. We're here to break it down in simple terms for the everyday motorcycle enthusiast. (listen to this podcast episode to get all the details!) Setting sag just means that you are adjusting how much your bike lowers (sags) and rides in the rear when a rider, passenger, luggage or a combination is on the bike. The bike should only sag down so far and within a pre-determined range. Whether you're riding street, adventure, dual-sport, or dirt, setting motorcycle suspension sag is a universal process. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Most stock Harley-Davidson rear shocks have a pre-load adjuster knob and the owner's manual gives you load weight ratings and where you should set the preload. The air shock system on the Harley works the same by adding or removing air. If you install aftermarket shocks of any kind then you'll need to learn how to properly set motorcycle suspension sag. Finding your sag number: First, you'll need to know how much overall travel your particular motorcycle shock has. Most OEM or aftermarket Harley rear shocks have 3 in. of overall travel or 76 mm. The rule is that you should take that number and your target sag number should be 1/3 or around 30% of that number. So, 3" of travel x 30% equals around 1". So, in this case, you'll want your sag to be 1" or 25 mm. On my 2018 Kawasaki KLR 650, the rear shock is rated for 7.3 inches or 185mm of travel. So, 7.3" x 30% equals 2.19" or 55 mm. So, my target sag number for my KLR 650 should be 2.19" or 55 mm. Tip: I hate math and I'm always in a hurry so I use a Tusk Sliding Sag Scale instead of a standard tape measure. I simply set the sliding sag scale to zero when the weight is off the rear. Then, with the load on the rear of the bike, I can simply look at the sag scale measurement in inches or millimeters. No converting or subtraction! You can get a Tusk Slide Scale right in the Law Abiding Biker Store. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! How to measure your motorcycle suspension sag: Note: I'll explain below as if using a standard tape measure on not the easy to use slide sag scale. I like to start with no preload added on the rear suspension. Now, make a mark on your strut or rear fender with a marker or piece of tape. Then, lift the rear wheel off the ground, thus removing all weight from the rear shock. Now, measure from the center of the rear axle to the mark you made and note that measurement. Next, put the weight back on the rear wheel and shock. Put the rider on the bike and have them bounce a few times to settle the rear shock. Measure again from the center of the rear axle to your mark and document that number. Now, subtract the second measurement from the first and that is where your sag is. Adjusting your sag: Note: We'll use the above Harley sag number of 1" for demonstrative purposes here. If your measurement was over 1" then you are sagging too much and you need to add preload. By adding preload you are compressing the spring and raising the rear of the motorcycle. If your measurement fell short of 1" then you have too much preload on the shock and you need to remove preload, thus lowering the rear of the motorcycle. Repeat the second measurement as you add and remove preload until you hit your target sag number. You can't get to your proper target sag number: Note: We'll use the above Harley sag number of 1" for demonstrative purposes here. Let's say you are still at 1-1/4" even after you've added all the preload adjustment you can by compressing the spring and raising the rear of the bike. You simply can't get it to 1" because you can't add any more preload. This means your spring/shock is too soft and you should get a stiffer one. The flip side of that is let's say your measurement is only at 3/4" and you've added no preload. You can't add anymore sag to get to the 1" as adding preload would just raise the bike. You simply can't get the motorcycle to sag enough. This means your spring/shock is too stiff and you should get a softer one. Just understand that if you set your sag for a rider only and you're at the 3/4" then with a rider or luggage you'll likely be at your 1" sag. You need to take everything into account. You should measure motorcycle suspension sag for rider only, rider with passenger and with luggage. You measure the rear sag with the rider/passenger/luggage on the bike. Then, simply keep notes of where you should set your suspension preload adjuster for each load. This way you can avoid having to measure again every time you have a passenger or luggage. Preload adjusters: Different motorcycle shocks have different styles

Ep 242LAB-242-Law Abiding Biker Hits 100k YouTube Subscribers & 7 Year Anniversary!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I'm excited to announce that on March 11, 2020, at 6:15 pm (PST) the Law Abiding Biker YouTube Channel hit 100k subscribers! I knew it was getting close, so I pulled up a website that counts YouTube channel, real-time subscribers. But the catch is that the counter only turns at intervals of 100. Ep 241LAB-241-Harley-Davidson End Times! CEO Levatich Quits?

E

Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Matthew Levatich, the CEO of Harley-Davidson since 2015, stepped down recently. As he left, Levatich said, "I am proud of what we have achieved during my time as CEO, in one of the most challenging periods in our history." It's well known that Harley has been struggling for some time and sales have been declining steadily year to year. There's just not a big demand for the bigger expensive touring bikes that make up the core of its model line. The company's loyal base of older customers, who drove a Harley revival during the 1980s and 1990s, is aging and purchasing fewer new motorcycles. Because the company needed to do something quickly, they selected Levatich as CEO back in 2015 to try to save the company. Levatich joined the company back in 1994 and served as a chief operating officer from 2009 through 2015 prior to becoming CEO. So, he had a good background and knowledge within the company. SEE VIDEO: Harley-Davidson End Times! CEO Matthew Levatich Quits What former Harley CEO Levatich did in 5 years Levatich authorized dozens of new models for both the U.S. and foreign markets. Harley certainly sees growth opportunities in the foreign markets and has clearly been targeting them. But that's been tough because of competition from existing brands that are solid in those markets. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Levatich expanded the output of motorcycles overseas, looking for more customers, especially in Asia. But, the smaller motorcycles aimed at those markets are less expensive than the bigger touring Harley models that they rely on in the U.S. and that has hurt the company's overall sales revenue. He also tried to get the company into different markets such as the Adventure Riding with the Pan America, which is supposed to be released in 2020. And they created the Street Fighter to get into the sports bike market, but there's no timeline on the release of that bike. And of course, Harley created their first-ever electric motorcycle named "LiveWire." However, it had some major issues after launch and a recall on it's charging system that didn't help its reputation. Additionally, Levatich attempted to offset declining sales with cost reductions. The company closed its Kansas City, Mo., assembly plant in 2019, Conducted several rounds of layoffs, and voluntary buyouts for employees. The company also shifted some of its productions overseas as well to avoid tariffs. And they took some consumer and political heat for doing such. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Levatich had a mission to attract new riders with their ridership classes, which are basically a driver's ed class for new riders. These classes were not necessarily new, as these classes pre-dated Levatich, but the company just renewed its focus on promoting the classes. Measuring progress toward the ridership goal created tension between Harley managers and its dealers and investors and this festered over time. Dealerships complained the learn-to-ride classes were expensive and didn't bring enough new motorcycle buyers. Tensions between dealerships and Levatich rose even more as he READ MORE HERE & SEE MY VIDEO ==> New Free Video Mentioned: 12 State Cross-Country Motorcycle Trip Documentary Film Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! Ep 240LAB-240-A Few of Our Favorite Motorcycle Riding Gear Items!

E

I am always testing a ton of different progressive motorcycle riding gear behind the scenes here at Law Abiding Biker Media. I eventually get around to reviewing each piece of gear on our YouTube Channel. But, it can take me some time to get the reviews released. In this podcast episode, I share with you my top 6 favorite motorcycle riding gear items for 2019. I have ridden with all these items thousands of miles in many different conditions to include below freezing, over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and in the rain. I also released a YouTube video on my top 6 items of 2019. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE I personally lean more towards newer progressive Harley riding gear rather than leather. I love gear that has multiple functions, provides protection and looks good on and off the motorcycle. I love being able to just keep riding on as the weather changes w/o stopping and changing gear. Even better, I love getting off the bike to go walking around in gear that blends right in, such as protective riding jeans and shoes. Ep 239LAB-239-Harley Ignition Alignment-What the Heck Happened and How we Fixed It!

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We were filming a Harley handlebar install on Popeye's new 2019 Street Glide. It was a long day and somehow when putting the ignition back on it got misaligned, which is a frustrating issue, to say the least. Then we checked my Street Glide Special to cross-check it and try to figure out what went wrong. In the process, we misaligned my Harley ignition. See our awesome Harley Handlebar Install Videos and save yourself a large amount of money by doing the project yourself. There's no need to pay a dealership to do this and we can show you how. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Anyways, over the next several days, I spent a lot of time figuring out how to actually take the ignition apart and fix it without having to buy a new one. Of course, I then shared it with the biker community on our YouTube Channel. Knowing this information will save you time, money, and frustration. There are no instructions for fixing the internals of the ignition in the Harley service manuals because if something goes wrong they want you to replace the entire ignition at a cost of over $100 plus labor. You can't even buy the internal parts to the Harley ignition. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! In my tutorial video, I show you how to remove the ignition switch from your Harley-Davidson touring model. I then show you how to re-install it. At times, the ignition can come out of alignment when removing the switch and the shaft won't go back in or is stuck inside. SEE HARLEY IGNITION REPAIR VIDEO HERE Further, I show you how to take the entire ignition apart and fix the alignment problem. There's no need to take your Harley to a mechanic for this and you can do it yourself. There is also a Harley ignition specialty tool that can help fix the issues and I'll show you how to use it. Ep 238LAB-238-Harley Boom Box Infotainment GTS Retro-Fit & Sena 30K & 20S Performance

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com When Harley announced it's new updated Boom Box GTS Infotainment System it was equipping the 2019 & newer models with, they failed to make a kit so that owners of 2014 to 2018 Harley's could upgrade from the older version of the Boom Box system if they chose. This infuriated many Harley owners. A company called Soundz Bagger quickly came out with a harness that made the retro-fit possible but it cost a whopping $450. And then you'd have to spend an additional $2400 to purchase the Boom Box GTS unit. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE It's hard to understand but Harley riders were spending all that money to upgrade when in my opinion the GTS unit is not that much better. Yes, it's an improvement over the original 6.5 Harley Boom Box unit but not worth that much money! You are basically paying to fix Harley's mistake with the first iteration of the Boom Box Infotainment System. Check out all of our very helpful Boom Box Tutorial Videos for 2014 to present units! We sell a ton of these tutorial videos and are praised by bikers worldwide. Learn everything you need to know to get the most out of the Harley Boom Box system and how to integrate and use the Harley Ride Planner! As of November 2019, it seems Harley-Davidson has now silently come out with their own kit to make the conversion to the new 2019 Boom Box GTS possible on those 2014-2018 touring models. Visting Harley's website, it seems they are marketing and describing this conversion kit more towards upgrading from the smaller 4.3 non-touchscreen unit to the new GTS unit. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! For 14-18 models, they say an additional USB Connector needs to be purchased for around $35-$50 but you can't even find the part on their own website at the time of this article. I actually seemed to have found the connectors on Surdyke's website (links below). The cost of the Boom Box GTS and conversion kit has come down in price to around $1900. Here is the information and part numbers you'll want to be aware of: Harley Street Glide and Ultra Models 2014 to present: Fits '19-later FLHTCU, FLHTCUTG, FLHTK, and FLHX models with a 4.3 Boom!™ Box Radio. Also fits '14-'18 FLHTCU, FLHTCUL, FLHTK, FLHTKL, FLHTKSE, FLHX, FLHXS, FLHXSE and FLHTCUTG, models with separate purchase of USB Connector P/N 69200031A. Also fits '19-later Electra Glide® Standard models with separate purchase of appropriate Hand Controls, Wiring, and Antenna. Boom Box GTS Unit P/N 76000829A Harley Road Glide Models 2014 to present: Fits '19-later Road Glide® models with a 4.3 Boom!™ Box Radio. Also fits '15-'18 Road Glide® models with separate purchase of USB Connector P/N 76000374A. Boom Box GTS Unit P/N 76000374A We here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media may actually do a retrofit to the Boom Box GTS unit and a video only to help bikers that are interested in possibly doing this. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I had a chance to speak with Patron Member Brad Johnston of Redmond, Oregon. I had the pleasure of meeting Brad in person last year at the Official Law Abiding Biker Patron Member ride and meetup event in Salt Lake City, Utah. As Law Abiding Biker Media continues to grow so does the awesome and supportive community. Aside from the yearly "official" Law Abiding Biker ride and meetup event, members are creating their own rides and meetups across the U.S. This is just awesome and who knows if this will start happening internationally! SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE We use the term "unsanctioned' event in a fun and playful way. Brad got ahold of me and asked me for my blessing on a ride and meetup event he personally wanted to organize in Redmond Oregon. He had posted this event in the Private Patron Member Only Facebook Group and got a great response. We go over the details of what Brad has planned for this ride and meetup in this episode. The event will be held on June 27, 2020 in the Redmond, Oregon area and will start around 11:00 am. There will be a relaxing and beautiful day ride that Brad has mapped out. Following the day ride will be a meetup at Brad's own home with some great BBQ and drinks. It sounds like an amazing day. These events are low key and it's nothing but good hard working bikers/motorcyclists meeting up and sharing something we all have a passion for, the sport of motorcycling. It is really just a bunch of good-hearted bikers helping and connecting with other bikers.! It's not like all those other less than credible Harley forums out there. Ep 236LAB-236-Amputee Speaks After a Near-Death Motorcycle Accident-Guest Timothy White

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this podcast episode, guest Timothy White opens up about his very serious motorcycle accident which was ultimately caused by equipment. He was struck by two different cars and had to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA. His near-death motorcycle accident happened many years ago and he still struggles long term with the aftermath. Due to severe injuries to his right foot and leg and after years of struggling, he had to make the decision to have his right leg amputated below the knee. And now he deals with much of what many amputees go through. He still struggles but has a very positive attitude. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Timothy takes us way back to his motorcycle racing days. He has a ton of motorcycle riding experience and insight for the biker community. He has owned and ridden many motorcycles in his past and we have a great time talking about them. Timothy was really into the sport bike racing scene and talks about his track days. He also spent much time after his accident working on bikes at the track. He was well respected for his mechanical abilities. One might think that this serious motorcycle accident would stop Timothy from riding or make many think twice about getting back on. Even after his accident, Timothy pushed forward and rode as soon as he could, of course now with some limitations. He was never able to race the same as he did before. After many years, Timothy has now mostly moved on from sports bikes and racing and he's settled into a Harley Road Glide. Ep 234LAB-234-Harley Reflex Defensive Rider System (RDRS)-Worth the Upgrade?

E

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this podcast, we explain the Harley-Davidson Reflex Defensive Rider System or "RDRS". This RDRS upgrade is a $995 option for the Harley touring line-up except for the Electra Glide Standard. Within this RDRS system are 6 components. Understand, that Harley has had a reflex linked braking system and anti-lock brakes on many touring models since the Rushmore bikes were released in 2014. The Harley linked braking system basically links the brakes so if a rider applies too much rear or front brake in an emergency the system takes over and applies the proper braking amounts to each wheel. See my YouTube video where I explain Harley RDRS! #1-Cornering Enhanced Electronic Linked Braking (C-ELB) This system is just like the reflex linked braking system but activates in an emergency situation in a corner. The front and rear brake systems apply the correct amount of braking for each wheel and take into account the lean angle of the motorcycle or the lateral acceleration of a trike. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE #2-Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking System (C-ABS) This system takes into account the lean angle of a motorcycle or the lateral acceleration of a trike during a corner and applies the proper amount of anti-lock braking to the front and rear wheel. This keeps the wheels rolling and prevents an uncontrolled wheel lock during a corner. #3-Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System (C-TCS) This is designed to prevent the rear wheel from excessive spinning under acceleration when going straight or cornering. This can be great for wet weather or a sudden change of the riding surface. The rider can choose between two modes: Standard mode is for dry surfaces. Rain mode is for wet surfaces. And the C-TCS mode can be turned off if desired. This mode is tailored when cornering based on lean angle. #4-Drag-Torque Slip Control System (DSCS) and Cornering Enhanced Drag-Torque Slip Control System (C-DSCS) This is designed to reduce excessive rear-wheel slip under deceleration. Rear-wheel slip can happen during a quick downshift or decelerating on wet or slick roads. The system will adjust engine torque delivery to better match rear-wheel speed to road speed. This mode is tailored when cornering based on lean angle or trike lateral acceleration. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! #5-Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) This mode applies and holds brake pressure when activated. This will prevent the motorcycle from rolling after the brake controls have been released. This mode is for a situation such as being stopped on a hill and it will keep the bike from rolling. This system applies brake pressure until the rider turns the throttle and releases the clutch to pull away. The system may also be engaged when the motorcycle is stopped on a flat surface if the rider wants to maintain position without applying pressure to a front or rear brake. The system is activated when the rider momentarily applies extra pressure to either the front-brake hand lever or the rear-brake foot control after the motorcycle has come to a complete stop. An indicator light will illuminate when the system is activated. The VHC system is disengaged automatically as the rider begins to pull away from a stop, or if the rider applies and releases either brake control. #6-Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) This system simply alerts the rider to low tire air pressure. TPMS displays current front and rear tire pressure on the Boom! Box GTS screen or on the odometer on Road King models. This system is also available as a stand-alone accessory for 2020 Touring models equipped with original equipment or accessory wheels that accept a sensor.
