S7 Ep 1985Ep. 1985 Alice Barera interviews Marina Marcarino | Clubhouse Ambassadors’ Corner

Welcome to Episode 1985 Stevie Kim moderates Clubhouse’s Ambassadors’ Corner – In this episode, Alice Barera interviews Marina Marcarino. These sessions are recorded from Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast! In this interview, Alice covers the learning objective: “A deeper perspective on the biodynamic practices used at Punset winery, an understanding of the most important characteristics of the Langhe terroir and the importance of Marina’s approach in preserving it.” Co-Moderator - Alice Barera is a New York based Italian Wine Ambassador. Born and raised in alto (alto) Piemonte, Alice holds a Master in Business Management at the University of Bologna Business School and pursued an international career intertwined between wine sales, marketing and hospitality. She loves making Italian wine simple and accessible for whoever is willing to listen to her stories. Connect: Instagram alice.barera LinkedIn LinkedIn.com/alicebarera Guest Bio - Marina started dreaming of becoming a winemaker when she was a child, as her paternal grandmother let her help with the wine-making process. In the vineyards she learned the life cycle of the vines, in the cellar she tasted small sips of wine to understand the differences between the varieties. She then realised she was really interested in this world when, on attending university, she discovered organic agriculture and with its methods a new authentic way to be in close contact with her vines, thus turning cultivation into a bond of reciprocal respect. Despite her commitment and passion, the first impact was hard: the first organic harvest went lost, but this did not discourage her. Marina continued on her way with determination, pursuing her ideas and her choice over the years. So we come to the present day: Punset is now considered one of the pioneers of organic growing in Piedmont and a point of reference for the village of Neive and its area, thanks to more than 30 years of experience and to excellent results. In addition to her commitment in the vineyards, at the end of the ‘80s Marina went to the States to gain experience in the marketing field, which was key to her becoming manager of her own winery, thus leading it to become one of the top producers of the area. Welcome to episode 1984 of the Italian Wine Podcast, Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon. In this episode Marc chats to Peter and Henri Greig about the history and development of Pipers Farm, their 52-acre family farm in Devon, discussing their commitment to biodiversity and ethical farming practices, the unique landscape of the Devon hills, and the direct relationships they have forged with their customers and neighbouring farmers. More about today’s guest: Peter & Henri Greig are the founders of Pipers Farm. Pipers Farm was established in 1989, and has since been a destination for meat that is produced sustainably and in harmony with nature. Today the company employs around 50 people from the local area who work across the Butchery, Fulfilment Centre and at Pipers Farm HQ, all based in Devon. The company works directly with 50 small-scale, family farms who produce grass fed beef, lamb, and mutton, properly free range chicken, pigs, ducks and Christmas poultry, and wild venison and game during the season. Alongside the meat, they work with small scale fisherman catching sustainable seafood out of Brixham harbour, overseen by Mitch Tonks at Rockfish, and they sell an ever-growing range of ethical and sustainable dairy, artisan cheese, bread, pulses, small batch jams and chutneys. Their mission remains the same: to produce food that their customers can trust completely while providing a future for small-scale, family farms working in harmony with nature. By focusing on each individual farm and the opportunities their land presents, they are able to support these businesses in diversifying their operations and provide a guaranteed and simple route to market. S7 Ep 1981Ep. 1981 McKenna Cassidy interviews Lorenzo Fornaini | The Next Generation

Welcome to Episode 1981 in which host McKenna Cassidy interviews Lorenzo Fornaini this week on The Next Generation. During the interview, the young winemaker Lorenzo talks about his experience working along with Andrea Franchetti in both his wineries Tenuta di Trinoro in Val d’Orcia, where they make Bordeaux blend style wines being the soil reminiscent of that of Saint Emilion, and Passopisciaro on Etna, where the wines are the true expression of the different “contrade". According to Lorenzo, Etna is so popular because it meets the contemporary taste, just like the Cabernet Franc from Tenuta di Trinoro: the modern consumer looks for freshness and drinkability. More about today’s guest I was born on 1995 in the province of Pisa; Ponsacco is the name of the town. On my path in the world of wine, I studied viticulture and oenology at the University of Pisa. I experienced a few vintages in the Pisan hills area, Palaia-Terricciola, near my home. In 2017, I faced my first harvest at Tenuta di Trinoro, in Tuscany. It was supposed to be just an experience to then decide whether to continue my studies or leave Italy, but at the end of the 2017 harvest, Andrea Franchetti asked me if I would like to start something together and stay at Trinoro. The decision was already made. Gradually, I grew with his visions and my approach. After Trinoro, I started going down to Etna and discovering that fantastic world as well, and now I really enjoy working with both wineries. I can tell you that I am very happy to still be working here today and helping to continue what Andrea Franchetti created. I owe all my rapid growth to this man, who was a visionary and managed to make a significant impact on the wine world in just a few years. Connect: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lorenzo_fornaini/ Website: https://www.vinifranchetti.com/ More about the host: McKenna found her love of wine while serving in a Napa Valley tasting room. She later graduated from the University of Notre Dame and pursued wine on the East Coast with E. & J. Gallo Winery. She has worked in wine distribution for restaurants and luxury retail stores for the past three years. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, McKenna is a Certified Specialist of Wine (2021), Certified Sommelier (2022), and Italian Wine Ambassador (2023). She loves country swing dancing, hosting brunch parties, and sipping Italian Wine. This is particularly important for luxury wineries, where sales are more brand-driven vs packaging or shelf placement driven. Brand ambassadors can take a variety of “shapes and sizes”, from being part of people’s jobs to a full team of brand ambassadors globally. This session will explore the role of brand ambassadors, how they add value, and the common archetypes of effective brand ambassadors in the context of luxury wine. S7 Ep 1971Ep. 1971 Giulia Stocchetti interviews Lamberto and Lodovico Montresor | The Next Generation

Welcome to Episode 1971 in which host Giulia Stocchetti interviews Lamberto and Lodovico Montresor this week on The Next Generation. Two brothers, fifth generation of Ottella wine producers, working together making different Lugana expressions, enhancing its complexity, versatility and ageability. All of that, in a family-run winery that combines modern art, architecture, sustainability, biodiversity and nature on Lake Garda. More about today’s guest The Montresor family has been at the helm of Ottella winery for four generations. The company was started by Lodovico, father of Francesco and Michele, a wine entrepreneur and passionate collector of artworks. In the book "The province of Verona and its wines, 1900", the historian Giovan Battista Perez testifies how the Montresor family was, in 1905, the only one to produce Lugana in the Verona area. In 1964 Lodovico Montresor, together with Professor Michele Vescia of the University of Brescia and the engineer Turlini, had the intuition to design and delimit this very precious area called Lugana, giving it its own geographical conformation and its own identity. The result was the birth of the Lugana appellation three years later, in 1967. In the mid-eighties, Ottella acquired new impetus when Francesco, freshly graduated in law, joined his father. Francesco Montresor, President of the Lugana Protection Consortium from 2007 to 2013, was then joined in 1993 by Michele, current president of the Venetian Winemakers Association. In 2013 the project for the new winery began: a unique place, intended to represent the values of the company, the love for the vineyard, the landscape and art. Ottella today is a 90 hectare reality in Lugana. Lodovico and Lamberto work alongside their father and uncle in the company... from father to son: past, present and future. A beautiful Italian story! S7 Ep 1969Ep. 1969 Piemonte Travel Series: Chiara Boschis | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Welcome to Episode 1969 of On The Road Special Edition. Stevie Kim heads to the the Piedmont region of northern Italy where she meets Chiara Boschis of Azienda Agricola E. Pira e Figli Chiara Boschis Discover the history of the ancient estate where the winery is located, the development of this extraordinary family winery, and the winemaking techniques involved in producing its famous Barolo wines. More about the winery: The Piras were an ancient family of winemakers, mentioned in parish registers since the 17th century, who also became winemakers between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Gigi Pira, legendary exponent of the old school of production, created his wines by assembling grapes from his own plots of Cannubi, San Lorenzo and Via Nuova. He maintained that, just as cows must graze on the best pastures to produce excellent milk, only the best vineyards must be chosen for wine. But Pira's attachment to tradition did not stop there: he was in fact the last remaining winemaker carry out the pressing and production by foot without the support of any technical means. Since 1980, continuity has been guaranteed by Chiara Boschis and her parents Franco and Ida, already linked to the Pira by deep friendship and mutual esteem and representing a historic family of Barolo producers since the 18th century, now in its 9th generation. After graduating, Chiara began to follow her passion for wine and her world full time, becoming one of the first female producers of Barolo at the end of the 1980s. By taking care of this "little big house" she brought a breath of renewal to the cellar and in the production style. Since 2010, Chiara has been joined in the ownership of the company by her brother Giorgio who shares with her the great passion for working in the vineyard and in the cellar, also with thirty years of experience. The work on the vines, strictly manual, is carried out with extreme care and respect for the environment, following the dictates of organic cultivation, for which the company has been certified since the 2014 harvest. Production is very limited (around 40,000 bottles per year), coming from directly produced grapes. S7 Ep 1965Ep. 1965 Dominic Zucchetto | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon

Welcome to episode 1965 of the Italian Wine Podcast, Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon. Today, he is interviewing Dominic Zucchetto. They discuss the aperitivo culture in Italy and the UK, as well as the distillation processes for spirits like Grappa and Gin, particularly from Beniamino Maschio. As the company's export manager, Dominic also shared his insights into the drinks industry. More about today’s guest: Born in London but raised in Italy in a small village called Quero near Valdobbiadene, I first entered the wine & spirits world during my latter school years through harvesting in order to earn some money. This initial interest in wine making, followed by my appreciation of the finished product, convinced me to unite what I was studying at school (economics) with this new passion, and I decided that I wanted to become a sales agent, and having had the good fortune of being raised in an English speaking family, it had to be for foreign markets. After a 5 year experience in a small winery in Valdobbiadene as the only employee where I was involved in the entire production process, therefore acquring great experience and knowledge, it was time to move on and follow my ambition of becoming a sales agent. For the following 6 years I worked in the export department for a larger company that owned not only 2 wineries but also a distillery, and that is where I also started to get passionate about the unique world of Spirits. Last year I was contacted by the Beniamino Maschio company as they were looking for a new Export Sales Manager and I decided to accept the offer, taking into consideration the career opportunity but also the incredible portoflio that the company offers and that today I am extremely proud to represent. As his passion for wine burgeoned, he enrolled in the Professional Sommelier Diploma course with the Italian Sommelier Association, initially with no intention of pursuing the final exams. However, the allure of wine steadily eclipsed his interest in computers and coding, leading him to complete the AIS Sommelier Diploma in 2013. That same year, he relocated to the UK to pursue an MSc in Wine Business Management at the Royal Agricultural University. While concluding his Master Dissertation, he seized an opportunity at HAY WINES, a small independent British wine merchants & importers. Welcome to Episode 1962 in which host Victoria Cece interviews Carlotta Allegrini this week on The Next Generation. Victoria Cece chats to winemaker Carlotta Allegrini about her passion for wine and how she balances life between Veneto and Tuscany as a young mother, a brand ambassador and a doctor! More about today’s guest Carlotta Mastella Allegrini is Vice-President and Brand Ambassador of the Marilisa Allegrini Group. After studying sciences, she enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine in Florence, while also doing part of her coursework at the Sorbonne in Paris, graduating summa cum laude in 2015. Thanks also to her background training, her dream is to create new spaces for hospitality where wine and health, nature and man, art and holistic well-being can all come together: places where balance and peace are generated in the people who stay, live and work here. S7 Ep 1957Ep. 1957 Enotourism- a Social Media Journey to #1 with Dr. Laura Catena, Stevie Kim | wine2wine Business Forum 2023

Welcome to Episode 1957, where we present the session recordings from the wine2wine Business Forum 2023. In today's episode, we delve into- Enotourism- a Social Media Journey to #1 with Dr. Laura Catena, Stevie Kim Italian Wine Podcast is proud to be a media partner of wine2wine Business Forum and we are pleased to present this series of market focus sessions, recorded during the Forum held in Verona in November 2023. wine2wine Business Forum is an international wine business event, held annually in Verona, Italy since 2014. The event is a key annual reference point for wine producers and wine professionals from around the world, providing an opportunity to network, develop and expand their wine business worldwide. About today’s session The Catena Zapata winery was founded by an Italian immigrant to Argentina, Nicola Catena, in 1902. In many ways, the winery is a traditional family winery with a family member at the helm for four generations. However, the wine journey of current Managing Director Dr. Laura Catena has been anything but traditional. Laura started her professional career as a medical doctor in the United States and has practiced both medicine and winemaking for 25 years. She credits her father Nicolás, a Doctor in economics, with teaching her everything she knows about making wine and running a business. When Laura started working with her father, she asked him to explain what people meant by “marketing.” Her father answered: “Laurita, it is hard to prove and sustain a #1 position over time, but when you do something different, you are most likely to win. Always focus on differentiation.” Today, Laura thinks that authenticity is the key to differentiation. During her session, she will show us - through a series of social media moments - how in 2023 the family winery, Catena Zapata, made it to the #1 World’s Best Vineyard position.
