The Programme aims to create a global movement to prevent, halt, and reverse the degradation of ecosystems, in which sustainable and regenerative agriculture plays a key role. On November 23rd 2023 Fattoria La Vialla won the German Sustainability Award 2024 as an outstanding model of sustainability in agriculture. S7 Ep 2014Ep. 2014 Marco Albanese interviews Eugenio Palumbo | Clubhouse Ambassadors’ Corner
Welcome to Episode 2014 Stevie Kim moderates Clubhouse’s Ambassadors’ Corner – In this episode, Marco Albanese interviews Eugenio Palumbo. These sessions are recorded from Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast! In this interview, Marco covers the learning objective: “My goal is for us to have a better understanding not only of the ‘stars’ of Piemonte aka Barolo and Barbaresco but also the importance of Barbera at Vietti as well as the emergence of Timorasso as a variety that is exploding in popularity. Finally, I’m hoping he can share with us a little about his life-what is like to be a winemaker in Piemonte and discuss some of the changes he has undoubtedly witnessed.” Co-Moderator - Marco Albanese Marco Albanese is a Canadian Italian born and raised in Montreal and has been living in Brooklyn, NY since 2005. Since 2016 he has been a District Manager for Dalla Terra; a National Importer of Italian Wines and Spirits. He managed to survive the VIA Italian Wine Ambassador Program this past March in New York. Connect: Instagram @marcuccio5 LinkedIn linkedin.com/in/marco-albanese-61a39419 Website dallaterra.com Guest Bio - Eugenio Palumbo Eugenio was raised in Alba and attended the Oenological High School, because it was the only school that allowed him to do what he liked most: staying outdoors and working with the land, in particular vineyards and wine. His greatest passions. After graduation, he immediately started to work at Vietti and discover the wine world. Those were challenging years because there were not so many people working at the Winery. This meant going to the vineyards, following vinification, tastings, winery registers and documents, investments, purchases, sales and rental contracts. He has worked side by side with Mario Cordero and Luca Currado and consolidated his responsibilities and skills. In 2016 the Krause family purchased the Winery but things did not change much. The philosophy has always been to keep focusing on tradition and on high quality wines. This job requires experience, because every vintage is different. You learn every year and make mistakes Technical skills without experience are useless. What binds him to this great Winery is something that goes beyond a simple professional reason. It is something that today stimulates him to continue to do well and grow treasuring everything that he has learned and absorbed in these 22 years. S7 Ep 2013Ep. 2013 Angelo Silvestro of Pietradolce | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon
Welcome to episode 2013 of the Italian Wine Podcast, Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon. Today, he is interviewing Angelo Silvestro of Pietradolce. They talk about the territory, cuisine, and vines of Castiglione di Sicilia, highlighting the wines of Pietradolce. More about today’s winery: Pietradolce was founded in 2005 in Solicchiata, a small village a few kilometers from Castiglione di Sicilia, on the Northern slope of Mount Etna. The family Faro has been always committed in preserving and showing the beauty of the teritory, so the love for it, as well as the respect for the ecosystem and the traditions represent the core of Pietradolce's philosophy. The estate owns 30 hectares of small plots located within Rampante, Zottorinoto, Santo Spirito e Feudo di Mezzo contradas, in a range between 700 and 950 mt. above sea level. The soils are rather stony, with light sandy loam rich, able to produce unique and elegant wines. Pietradolce cultivates just indigenous varieties, the main characters of Etna's history: Nerello Mascalese and Carricante. The vines are coltivated through the traditional bush vine system “Alberello Etneo”. From the small prephilloxera single-plots Pietardolce obtains its prime wines. Theese wines arte vinified in concrete tanks before the ageing in 700 litres french oak. The grand crus Barbagalli and Sant'andrea rapresent the highest and purest expression of the volcano. The new winery is the result of a project in which art and artisanship create a contemporary style environment, strongly linked to the territory. Volcanic rock, iron, wood, and vineyard soil are the materials used for the interiors of the wine cellar, barrel room, and tasting room. Inside there are some pieces of art, works by local artisans and Italian artists such as Alfio Bonanno, exponent of the Land Art and Giorgio Vigna, capable of shaping materials as glass, and steel. These works enrich the dialougue with the teritory. S7 Ep 1998Ep. 1998 Barbera D'Asti - Federica Massimeli | On The Road With Stevie Kim
Welcome to Episode 1998 of On The Road Special Edition. Stevie Kim heads to Barbera D’Asti in northern Italy where she meets Federica Massimelli of Bersano Winery Discover the history of the ancient estate where the winery is located, the development of this extraordinary family winery, and the winemaking techniques involved in producing its famous wines. More about the winery: Since 1907, Bersano has had a vision: to preserve the best of the winemaking and convivial culture of Langhe and Monferrato and spread it throughout the world. It is an ambitious goal: for many, an impossible mission – for us, a promise to keep, day after day. It all started with Arturo Bersano and his boundless foresight. Upon his passing, the challenge passed to other hands, those of the Massimelli family: first Ugo, then, today, his daughter Federica, supported by her sisters and son. In the vineyard, in the cellar, in our museums: we focus everything on Piedmont. We do this by selecting and refining only the best bunches of native varieties from our 230 cultivated hectares - a winemaking heritage of inestimable value, a cross-section of Langhe and Monferrato that allows us to show the world the thousand faces of the territory with our wines. But not only that: we also do it by protecting the peasant memory in the historic museums of Nizza Monferrato and in the 10 owned farms, places with a centuries-long legacy, which collect all the richness of the most important chapters in the history of Italian wine; and promoting the conviviality that has always distinguished us, welcoming anyone who wants to discover the best of Piedmontese culture with us in our cellar. “A guarantee of lands, men and traditions”: we have believed in it for more than a century, we work there every day - to safeguard the icons of yesterday and create those of tomorrow. Connect: Website: https://www.bersano.it/en/about More about the host Stevie Kim: Stevie Kim hosts Clubhouse sessions each week (visit Italian Wine Club & Wine Business on Clubhouse), these recorded sessions are then released on the podcast to immortalize them! S7 Ep 1996Ep.1996 Mutually Beneficial Importer/ Supplier Relationship | wine2wine Business Forum 2023
Welcome to Episode 1996, where we present the session recordings from the wine2wine Business Forum 2023. In today's episode, we delve into- Establishing the Foundation for a Long-lasting and Mutually Beneficial Importer/ Supplier Relationship with Peter Mondavi Jr, Marilisa Allegrini Italian Wine Podcast is proud to be a media partner of wine2wine Business Forum and we are pleased to present this series of market focus sessions, recorded during the Forum held in Verona in November 2023. wine2wine Business Forum is an international wine business event, held annually in Verona, Italy since 2014. The event is a key annual reference point for wine producers and wine professionals from around the world, providing an opportunity to network, develop and expand their wine business worldwide. About the session: Choosing the right importer - and import model - for your business is the most important decision you will make for success in the critical US market. Is a large, established national importer the right fit for your business? Better to be a “big fish in a small pond” with a boutique, specialist importer? What about the human connection: Should family-owned wineries align with family-owned importers? Setting expectations from both sides is critical: What are the expected sales for the first year? First 5 years? What marketing support does the importer expect from the supplier? What is a reasonable expectation? How can the importer partner with the supplier to stay top-of-mind with the critical distributor audience? Peter Mondavi Jr., family proprietor of Charles Krug Winery and C. Mondavi & Family, will explore these questions and more in his seminar. A historical Napa Valley producer, Charles Krug has now expanded into the import business. This session will explain why this legendary Napa producer is going into the import business and what value they bring to their suppliers. Peter will also share what he looks for in a supplier relationship and how his company sets realistic expectations for sales, marketing and brand-building. He will discuss the necessity of shared values, passion and vision for a successful relationship, the need for open and regular communication, and how quality throughout the organization - from the vineyard and winemaking to sales and marketing - is paramount as he builds his import portfolio. S7 Ep 1995Ep. 1995 Mauricio de Chiaro interviews Fabio Costantino | Clubhouse Ambassadors’ Corner
Welcome to Episode 1995 Stevie Kim moderates Clubhouse’s Ambassadors’ Corner – In this episode, Mauricio de Chiaro interviews Fabio Costantino. These sessions are recorded from Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast! In this interview, Mauricio covers the learning objective: “We are all hearing a lot about how Etna is THE new destination in Italy. I hope this interview makes people more familiar with what Etna really means, and what kind of wines one can get with quality wine making techniques. And of course, we will all get to know Fabio and his work better.” Co-Moderator - As an Italian Wine Ambassador, Mauricio has recently visited more than 100 wineries in Italy and is actively promoting Italian wine in Brazil, particularly highlighting lesser-known native grapes. With a 30+ year career in finance as a background, Mauricio is also bringing his business expertise into the Italian wine industry. Inspired by the medieval guilds where knowledge was shared among craftsmen and merchants, Mauricio created The Wine Partners, a wine club that bridges the best talent in the industry with more engaged, 'hands-on' wine lovers. This platform empowers small, family-owned producers by allowing Partners not only to buy direct but also to have winemaking experiences. The Wine Partners has chapters in Miami and São Paulo. For Mauricio, Italy offers a perfect mix of highly motivated talent supported by centuries of traditional knowledge. This, combined with an openness to new winemaking techniques and a vast variety of native grapes, is producing wonderful quality wines in various unique terroirs. Mauricio has discovered an immense number of smaller wine producers who offer high-quality yet unrecognized wines, making Italy the place to be for the avid wine lover. Connect: Instagram the.wine.partners Twitter @thewinepartners LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/mauriciodechiaro/ Website www.thewinepartners.com Guest Bio - Born in 1974. During his university studies as construction engineer Fabio fell in love with wine, starting to taste, compare and understand how a good wine is made. After his studies, he joined the family construction company as an entrepreneur, always with a look to the other family business: the farm and winery on Etna volcano, acquired by his father Dino in 1970. From the early 2000s Fabio started to join his father more and more in the management of the winery. S7 Ep 1985Ep. 1985 Alice Barera interviews Marina Marcarino | Clubhouse Ambassadors’ Corner
Welcome to Episode 1985 Stevie Kim moderates Clubhouse’s Ambassadors’ Corner – In this episode, Alice Barera interviews Marina Marcarino. These sessions are recorded from Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast! In this interview, Alice covers the learning objective: “A deeper perspective on the biodynamic practices used at Punset winery, an understanding of the most important characteristics of the Langhe terroir and the importance of Marina’s approach in preserving it.” Co-Moderator - Alice Barera is a New York based Italian Wine Ambassador. Born and raised in alto (alto) Piemonte, Alice holds a Master in Business Management at the University of Bologna Business School and pursued an international career intertwined between wine sales, marketing and hospitality. She loves making Italian wine simple and accessible for whoever is willing to listen to her stories. Connect: Instagram alice.barera LinkedIn LinkedIn.com/alicebarera Guest Bio - Marina started dreaming of becoming a winemaker when she was a child, as her paternal grandmother let her help with the wine-making process. In the vineyards she learned the life cycle of the vines, in the cellar she tasted small sips of wine to understand the differences between the varieties. She then realised she was really interested in this world when, on attending university, she discovered organic agriculture and with its methods a new authentic way to be in close contact with her vines, thus turning cultivation into a bond of reciprocal respect. Despite her commitment and passion, the first impact was hard: the first organic harvest went lost, but this did not discourage her. Marina continued on her way with determination, pursuing her ideas and her choice over the years. So we come to the present day: Punset is now considered one of the pioneers of organic growing in Piedmont and a point of reference for the village of Neive and its area, thanks to more than 30 years of experience and to excellent results. In addition to her commitment in the vineyards, at the end of the ‘80s Marina went to the States to gain experience in the marketing field, which was key to her becoming manager of her own winery, thus leading it to become one of the top producers of the area. S7 Ep 1984Ep. 1984 Peter and Henri Greig of Pipers Farm | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon
Welcome to episode 1984 of the Italian Wine Podcast, Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon. In this episode Marc chats to Peter and Henri Greig about the history and development of Pipers Farm, their 52-acre family farm in Devon, discussing their commitment to biodiversity and ethical farming practices, the unique landscape of the Devon hills, and the direct relationships they have forged with their customers and neighbouring farmers. More about today’s guest: Peter & Henri Greig are the founders of Pipers Farm. Pipers Farm was established in 1989, and has since been a destination for meat that is produced sustainably and in harmony with nature. Today the company employs around 50 people from the local area who work across the Butchery, Fulfilment Centre and at Pipers Farm HQ, all based in Devon. The company works directly with 50 small-scale, family farms who produce grass fed beef, lamb, and mutton, properly free range chicken, pigs, ducks and Christmas poultry, and wild venison and game during the season. Alongside the meat, they work with small scale fisherman catching sustainable seafood out of Brixham harbour, overseen by Mitch Tonks at Rockfish, and they sell an ever-growing range of ethical and sustainable dairy, artisan cheese, bread, pulses, small batch jams and chutneys. Their mission remains the same: to produce food that their customers can trust completely while providing a future for small-scale, family farms working in harmony with nature. By focusing on each individual farm and the opportunities their land presents, they are able to support these businesses in diversifying their operations and provide a guaranteed and simple route to market. It’s proof that when it comes to farming, big isn’t necessarily better. S7 Ep 1981Ep. 1981 McKenna Cassidy interviews Lorenzo Fornaini | The Next Generation
Welcome to Episode 1981 in which host McKenna Cassidy interviews Lorenzo Fornaini this week on The Next Generation. During the interview, the young winemaker Lorenzo talks about his experience working along with Andrea Franchetti in both his wineries Tenuta di Trinoro in Val d’Orcia, where they make Bordeaux blend style wines being the soil reminiscent of that of Saint Emilion, and Passopisciaro on Etna, where the wines are the true expression of the different “contrade". According to Lorenzo, Etna is so popular because it meets the contemporary taste, just like the Cabernet Franc from Tenuta di Trinoro: the modern consumer looks for freshness and drinkability. More about today’s guest I was born on 1995 in the province of Pisa; Ponsacco is the name of the town. On my path in the world of wine, I studied viticulture and oenology at the University of Pisa. I experienced a few vintages in the Pisan hills area, Palaia-Terricciola, near my home. In 2017, I faced my first harvest at Tenuta di Trinoro, in Tuscany. It was supposed to be just an experience to then decide whether to continue my studies or leave Italy, but at the end of the 2017 harvest, Andrea Franchetti asked me if I would like to start something together and stay at Trinoro. The decision was already made. Gradually, I grew with his visions and my approach. After Trinoro, I started going down to Etna and discovering that fantastic world as well, and now I really enjoy working with both wineries. I can tell you that I am very happy to still be working here today and helping to continue what Andrea Franchetti created. I owe all my rapid growth to this man, who was a visionary and managed to make a significant impact on the wine world in just a few years. Connect: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lorenzo_fornaini/ Website: https://www.vinifranchetti.com/ More about the host: McKenna found her love of wine while serving in a Napa Valley tasting room. She later graduated from the University of Notre Dame and pursued wine on the East Coast with E. & J. Gallo Winery. She has worked in wine distribution for restaurants and luxury retail stores for the past three years. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, McKenna is a Certified Specialist of Wine (2021), Certified Sommelier (2022), and Italian Wine Ambassador (2023). She loves country swing dancing, hosting brunch parties, and sipping Italian Wine.
