Surrounded by cork tree forests, small rivers, and three serene lakes, the terrain is vibrant and varied, crafting a unique terroir that deeply influences the wines. At Tenute Gregu, the approach to winemaking is artisanal; 90% of the work happens in the field, nurturing each vine, with the remaining 10% in the cellar, ensuring each bottle captures the essence of the land and labor. The strength of Tenute Gregu lies not just in its remarkable setting, but in the unity and dedication of the family that runs it. Together, they craft wines that reflect a collective passion and love for nature, offering drinkers a taste of their rich heritage and the soul of Gallura. This is a journey of flavor where tradition meets passion, creating wines as extraordinary as the land they come from. S7 Ep 2176Ep. 2176 Sami Ghosn Of Massaya Winery | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon
Welcome to episode 2176 of the Italian Wine Podcast, and episode 168 of Wine, Food & Travel with Marc Millon. Marc’s guest today is the Lebanese wine maker Sami Ghosn of Massaya winery in the Beqaa, a fertile valley region in eastern Lebanon. More about today’s guest: Lebanon's association with wine is as old as time. It is well established that wine making was already prevalent there thousands of years ago and that it was one of the joys of early civil society. From the first miracle of Christ, turning water into wine, to the Romans who built a temple in honour of Bacchus, the god of wine in the Beqaa valley, this tradition has been continuously present with over 50 winemakers operating today in Lebanon. One of the clear stand-out producers of the new generation celebrating its 25th anniversary is award-winning Massaya. Sami Ghosn, literally a renaissance man. He created Massaya from the wreckage of his family's estate in the Beqaa. Since returning from the United States in 1992 after civil war devastation, he and his brother Ramzi have built a winery in the Beqaa and a fabulous wine resort in Faqra, Mount Lebanon. Sami travels widely to promote Massaya thereby also serving as a roving ambassador for the country. Looking back at his family's legacy, the struggles in the Middle East, and the pride in his homeland, wine has a special significance for Sami. He says: “A glass of wine from Lebanon is more than an alcoholic beverage. It is a message of civilization, resilience, tolerance, and identity”. She always had a keen interest in music, so she started learning some jazz standards from a friend double bass player in her twenties and then went on to folk music, by singing in an amateurs’ local bands, when still in Italy. After moving to this country, she had a long break from singing until she became co-founder of southern Italian folk band Trikkeballakke, inspired by the traditions of Tarantelle, especially Tammurriate and Pizziche. S7 Ep 2153Ep. 2153 Michela Aru | Everybody Needs A Bit Of Scienza
Welcome to Episode 2153 of the Italian Wine Podcast and Everybody Needs a Bit of Scienza, where Professo Scienza takes questions from the international wine community and answers them in his own inimitable way! These shows are generally in the Italian language. Today’s question about ‘localised’ food and wine pairing comes from Michela Aru. Since 1910, when they first established their winery in Correggio township (Reggio Emilia province, in the region of Emilia-Romagna), they have never followed the trends or fashions that have driven Lambrusco production in this century and the last. They make their Lambrusco — including their classic method Lambrusco, produced using traditional hand-riddling — the same way they always have: The traditional “dry” style of Lambrusco, with a focus on freshness, brilliant fruit flavors, and food-friendliness. S7 Ep 2150Ep. 2150 Matteo Ascheri of Cantine Ascheri | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon
Welcome to episode 2150 of the Italian Wine Podcast, and episode 164 of Wine, Food & Travel with Marc Millon. Marc’s guest today is Matteo Ascheri of Cantine Ascheri, a winery and hospitality complex in Piemonte, in northwest Italy. More about today’s winery: The Ascheri winery was originally established in La Morra at the dawn of the 19th century. It was there, where today there still exists a place called "Ascheri", that the first vines were planted and the first wines produced. In those years, the most important town for the production of Barolo, the best known wine of this area, was Bra, due to its good connections with Turin. Because of this, in 1880 the cellars were moved from La Morra to Bra, where they are still located today. They are the only remaining cellars which can boast this beautiful and ancient heritage. To the La Morra vineyards were added the vineyards of Serralunga d’Alba, Verduno and Bra, with the philosophy that only the maximum respect for their management can create great wines. In the winery, the aim is to obtain a wine which is the expression of the vineyard it comes from, of the grapes it is made from, and, above all, of the ideas of the winemaker. Alongside the winery is the Osteria Murivecchi and the hotel Albergo Cantine Ascheri. Connect Website: www.ascherivini.it Instagram: @ascheri_vineyardsandcellars Facebook: Albergo Cantine Ascheri, Bra More about the host Marc Millon: Marc Millon, VIA Italian Wine Ambassador 2021, has been travelling, eating, drinking, learning and writing about wine, food and travel for nearly 40 years.
