He bought a farm built in ‘700 in Novello, surrounded by 11 hectares of vineyards, and created the winery which still has his surname: Cogno. After a working experience in an important company of automation and design, Valter decided to return to work in the world of wine and joined the company. In 1996 Elvio Cogno decided to retire and Valter, along with Nadia, began a long process of renovation of the farm, continuing the search for the highest quality in wines and enhancement of the terroir. More about today’s guest: Carlo Guarini Carlo Guarini was born and raised in Salento. His family has been connected to this territory for 25 generations through agriculture, which still today see the production of typical crops: evoo, cereals, vegetables and of course wine. Carlo studies and works in Milan as a consultant but always keeps an eye on the family business, gradually growing an interest in the world of wine, starting to get an idea of how it works, who the players are, what the rules are, and how perhaps, one day, he would like to be an active part of it! The thought takes shape in 2016 along with his brother Roberto, agronomist and enologist, together they choose to return to Salento and start a new winery called Castello Frisari. They’re specialized in the organic cultivation and winemaking of 100% single vineyard Negroamaro from different areas of the Terra d’Otranto. The mission is to enhance the grape variety and the unique terroirs of Salento, giving them a name and surname, to highlight their characteristics and qualities and a more sustainable value. This is the key to be on the market with a real uniqueness, a real reason for being, and ultimately quality. Today’s question(s): What's your opinion about the new Chianti Classico UGA classification system of 11 villages that started with the 2020 vintage? Qual è la Sua opinione sul nuovo sistema di classificazione UGA del Chianti Classico, basato su 11 comuni e introdotto con l'annata 2020? Does this help the customer to understand the style of a particular wine or is it more about the geographical location of the producer inside Chianti Classico zone, where each makes wine "with their own taste"? Ritiene che questo aiuti il consumatore a comprendere meglio lo stile di un determinato vino o sia più legato alla posizione geografica del produttore all'interno della zona del Chianti Classico, dove ciascuno produce vini "secondo il proprio gusto"? In your opinion, is there a more pragmatic and more accessible NEXT STEP to understanding the differences in wines from different "corners" of this fairly large wine zone? Connect: Website: https://vinointeriano.wordpress.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vinointeriano/?hl=en Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/albertomartinezinteriano/ Guest Bio – Matteo Marenda Sesta di Sopra is an estate of 44 hectares located south of Montalcino, 4 km from Castelnuovo dell'Abate. It was purchased in 1980. After restoring the farmhouse, almost certainly an ancient watchtower, two hectares of olive groves were recovered, followed by the planting of a first vineyard and then a second for a total of 2.8 hectares. The farm has a favourable position for soil composition and microclimate. Careful family management has given particular importance to the planting of the vineyards, in order to follow the most modern viticultural techniques. The vineyards, planted in the early 1990s with a selection of Sangiovese Grosso clones, are trained (spurred cordon system) on medium-textured soils, tending to be calcareous, which give reduced vigour to the plants with low production yields and high-quality grapes. The company owns about 4 hectares of vineyards. The oldest vineyard, from which we produce the Brunello, is 29 years old, while the remaining part has an average age of 10 years. The Vinitaly Kazakhstan Roadshow, held at the exclusive Rixos Almaty Hotel on 18 November 2024, was Vinitaly's first international project in Central Asia. The program included walk-around tastings, in-depth masterclasses and informal networking opportunities, with a full range of Made in Italy products on offer. The event coincided with the Vinitaly International Academy (VIA) Italian Wine Ambassador program. VIA is the Italian wine education gold standard, a study path which aims to train competent and professional figures to promote Italian wine all over the world. Kazakhstan is the largest land-locked country in the world with a population of 20 million. Fifty per cent of the population is under 24 years old with a rising middle and upper class showing increasing interest in premium and imported products. These characteristics make Kazakhstan a very interesting market for Italian products and services in general and wine in particular. S7 Ep 2198Ep. 2198 Timur Aliahmetov interviews Alberto Tanzini of Roccapesta | Clubhouse Ambassadors’ Corner

Welcome to Episode 2198 of the Italian Wine Podcast and Stevie Kim’s Ambassadors’ Corner on Clubhouse. In this episode Italian Wine Ambassador Timur Aliahmetov interviews Alberto Tanzini of Roccapesta Winery. Today’s learning objectives: Promoting the wines of Maremma. Understanding the philosophy of Roccapesta and how Roccapesta, being a very young winery, created its own unique style. Co-Moderator – Timur Aliahmetov Timur has been working with wine for a year and half. He started his career at the neo-nomadic restaurant Auyl in the Medeu mountain district of Kazakhstan as a junior sommelier, after which he started working at the AGORA wine bar, where he gained most of his knowledge and prepared for the Italian Wine Ambassador exam. Connect: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/millesime_2003/ Guest Bio – Alberto Tanzini Alberto Tanzini worked in finance in London for several years before heading back to his native Italy to become a winemaker. He acquired the Roccapesta estate in 2003. Roccapesta was founded in 1974 and is a leading winery in the Morellino di Scansano denomination. Roccapesta wines are born from production techniques that are in close continuity with the Maremma winemaking tradition: the vineyards are cultivated with organic management and for fermentation only indigenous yeasts are used, without the addition of oenological additives or the use of chemical substances. Long fermentations, refinements in large barrels and prolonged periods in the bottle are the cornerstones of a production philosophy aimed at obtaining elegant, long-lived, powerful and structured wines. More about today’s guest: Angela Maculan is the best thing to come from the 1977 vintage, Fausto likes to joke. S7 Ep 2190Ep. 2190 Michela Muratori of Muratori winery | Wine, Food & Travel with Marc Millon

Welcome to episode 2190 of the Italian Wine Podcast, and episode 170 of Wine, Food & Travel with Marc Millon. Marc’s guest today is Michela Muratori of Muratori winery in Franciacorta, the district of Lombardy in northern Italy famed for its high-quality sparkling wines. More about today’s guest: Established in 1999 and now in its third generation, the Muratori family makes wine exclusively from its own grapes, with 54 hectares of vineyards that are approximately 25 years old. The Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Bianco vineyards are located in six geographically diverse areas of Franciacorta with the aim of telling the story of the soil and climate variety of Franciacorta in every glass. Respect and enhancement of the territory are founding concepts for the family's philosophy. The cellar is an example of underground architecture at the service of sustainability: it extends almost 15 meters underground, covering a surface area of approximately 15,000 square meters, which allows gravity to be used to move the musts during the harvest and guarantees a constant microclimate throughout the various periods of the year. The agrivoltaic system, suspended above one of the vineyards adjacent to the winery (one of the first built in Italy in 2011), will soon ensure energy self-sufficiency thanks to the expansion program, which includes a doubling of the electrical potential from 200 Kw/peak to 400 Kw/peak. Since the 2020 harvest, the famous winemaker Riccardo Cotarella and his team have overseen the entire line of Muratori wines.
