Whenever you become a Patron of the Podcast, 10% of all the money I earn goes toward Celtic non-profits. I donate that because I want to help our fellow Celtic organizations grow. One of the festivals I have supported over the years is the Texas Scottish Festival. Thanks to our patrons, I made another nice donation to this festival in North Texas. The festival takes place May 10-12, 2019 in Decatur, Texas. And this week, we're gonna highlight some of the amazing artists performing there this year as well as in past years. I want to give you a quick heads up. I decided to skip the podcast next week. Our official move in date for Atlanta is next week. While we will still be in Birmingham for the most part, we will be getting everything setup at our new home. And since May has five Thursdays, instead of the usual four, I figured it was just easier and less financially stressful for many of our Patrons of the Podcast who don't set a cap on their pledges. That said, I decided last minute to compile a short bonus podcast exclusively for our Patrons of the Podcast. If you want to support the show, please consider joining them. This week in the Celtic Music Magazine I share with you a few secrets I learned about how to visit Skellig Michael in Ireland. This island as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The island climbs 700 feet. It is known for the Gaelic monastery that was founded there in the 6th and 8th centuries. It was also featured in the Star Wars, The Last Jedi. So it's not easy to access. I share an article where you can learn more about how to access the island when you travel to Ireland. Subscribe here. Women in music do not get nearly enough attention. One of my goals to remedy that is to do a special feature on women every three months or so. I dub this the year of the Irish & Celtic Women. If you want to get your music on the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast in 2019, head on over to 4celts.com. Complete the form and follow the directions to send in music. I'll get you on the show as soon as possible. Oh! And don't forget to read my free book on promoting Celtic music in the digital era. This is a great resource for your Celtic band. I am excited to announce a brand new year for voting in the Celtic Top 20. I made it even easier to vote in 2019. I know. How is that possible? Last year's was the easiest ever! This year, you don't have to limit yourself to one band or two bands. In fact, you can vote for as many artists as you'd like in each show. This should make it easier to vote. Here's how I recommend you vote. At the top of the shownotes of each episode, I list every artist in that is featured in that show. You just need to copy that list into a text file on your phone or wherever. When you find an artist who doesn't inspire, remove them from that list. At the end of the show, copy that list. Go back to the shownotes. A little down from the top of the shownotes is a link to go vote. Click the link. List the show number, paste your entire list of favorites. Add your name and email for verification. And voila. You are done. I had so many people say they couldn't decide who to vote for because there were so many great options. I decided to reverse the process. And I tried it out last year. I found this a TON easier. Now if you have your own method, or you just want to vote for your top top favorites. Cool! But this is a method that worked well for me! Give it a try. Then go vote at bestcelticmusic.net/vote/ TRAVEL WITH CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans on the relaxing adventure of a lifetime. We don'

Across the board CD sales are diminishing. Yet, many artists make their living playing music. We knew this was coming but most musicians haven't found out how to adjust. So it comes down you to support the music and arts you love. In show #349, I listed a bunch of Celtic musicians on Patreon. Some of you who are Patrons of this Podcast already know how easy and awesome it is. If you know of any other artists there, please let me know. I'd like to update that list for 2019. Or if there is a special way you support Celtic music, email me. I am updating the Top Irish & Celtic Music Playlist on Spotify over the couple weeks. I'm so sick of the hate that inspires these attacks. It reminds me of the attacks the Irish suffered when they first came to America. That hate is a plague. So I wanted to send out my Celtic solidarity for that community and all the disenfranchised communities who similarly suffer. We are here for you. I wanna thank you so much for listening to the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. There are other podcasts sharing Celtic music. And they are fantastic. In fact, if you know of any Celtic podcast that's worth listening to, drop me an email. I'd love to share it with listeners. You are here because we're doing something a little bit different. I started this a number of years ago when I learned that DJs in the 70s would sometimes do they same. They would play an entire album from a band so you could hear what it was all about. I've done this with Jed Marum and Poitin. I'm actually restarting the Pub Songs Podcast and gonna share ALL of my albums on that podcast in the months to come. But today, I'm very pleased that Charmas were kind enough to allow me to share their brand new album. Elise, their piper, fiddler and band manager has been chatting with me for several months. She inspired me to listen to their new album. And it was beautifully made and a lot of fun. Elise tells me that Stark Raving Celtic is a concept album, best enjoyed from start to finish, with a lava lamp and a bottle of good whiskey. This diverse music collection opens with some mighty Irish and Scottish pub/comedy songs, including a blood-pumping anthem for Scottish Highland Athletes. Its instrumental tracks build from gentle melodies into full-on power sets, featuring various combinations of Great Highland Bagpipes, Scottish snare drum, Irish bodhran, African hand-drumming, bass and kit drums. The grand finale is modern Experimental fusion, still rooted in Celtic music, but exploring a new direction for this diverse, and intensely creative group of musicians. Now there's only one track not included in this show and that is not podsafe. That's their recording of "The Auld Triangle". It kicks off the show. Hopefully, this episode will inspire you to check out the band and find out more about them. You can find them at charmasband.com. They are on Facebook, you can follow them on Spotify, and Elise has made several playlists with theirs and others music. I'll add those to the shownotes as well. Here are Four Spotify Playlists by Charmas: Celtic Adrenaline Rush Fresh Irish and Scottish Celtic Comedy Celtic on Repeat (Beautiful Trance Music) World Fusion International Buffet Elise says she would love to add music from all your bands to these playlists. All they need to do is comprehend the etiquette: 1. LISTEN and pre-choose your best material for a particular playlist(s). 2. FOLLOW the playlist (this is just common courtesy. 3. THEN SEND your link(s) to the playlist curator. TRAVEL WITH CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans on the relaxing adventure of a lifetime. Every year, I share ghoulishly fun Celtic songs with a fun Halloween twist. It's like costuming in song. You can watch the show live or watch the replay on YouTube if you miss the concert. My Top Irish & Celtic Music Playlist is newly updated on Spotify. For the past couple months, I've accidentally published episodes with explicit language. As soon as I recognized my error, I fixed the files on our host server. Unfortunately, many platforms host files on their own servers instead of Libsyn's. This inspired a change in how I release shows. In the future, Apple Podcasts will be the only clean podcast. Explicit language may show up on Spotify or Stitcher or other podcatchers that don't pull the file directly from Libsyn each time. But if you listen on Apple Pocasts or even our free app, they will be clean if I catch it soon enough. Second, some folks have asked why many older shows don't appear in the app. Apple Podcasts only allows the most-recent 300 episodes to appear. So again, if you want better access to all of the shows, go get our free app on iTunes or Amazon. Finally, I've been advertising on Facebook for a few years now to promote the podcast and attract new folks. I would love your help in doing more. I recently asked The Selkie Girls to record one for the Women of Irish & Celtic Music. It was a huge success. I'd love to get some testimonials from you that can be turned into 30 second ads. A lot tracks I've published in this podcast recently had explicit language. I've tried over the years to keep this show clean, free from foul language. But it's gotten difficult. So I decided to announce a slight change to future procedures. I will still continue to to try and release a clean show, no explicit language. But I removed the clean content rating on all the feeds except Apple Podcasts. That's because each podcatcher shares music differently. Spotify and Stitcher download a copy and then stores it on their servers. That means, I cannot adjust the file after it goes out. If you listen via Apple Podcasts, then each file is taken from the Libsyn server individually. So I can edit the file and it will update on Apple Podcasts, Google Play and iHeartRadio for all future downloads. What this means for you is IF you hear explicit language on one of those podcatchers, first, I apologize if it offends you. Second, I would recommend you email me to let me know. Third, you can delete that file and once it is fixed, you'll be able to listen to the show with clean language after. Then I saw Shannon Heaton released a new episode of Irish Music Stories where she ponders gender equality in traditional music. It's a brilliant thought-provoking episode. I highly recommend. It also got me thinking I should sync our shows together. Women don't get enough attention in Celtic music. Yet, there are a lot of incredible lasses keeping the tradition alive. So today starts four weeks of Guest Hosts on the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. Each of these shows will be different from my usual format. And I think you're gonna love the different styles. John Wilmott is the host of this week's podcast. I first met John on MP3.com in 2000. He was doing an amazing job promoting Celtic music. In 2008, he was the tour guide for the Brobdingnagian Bards 2nd Tour of Ireland. John Wilmott is a fantastic storyteller with a love of Irish spirituality. He now runs Carrowcrory Cottage & Labyrinth in Ballinafad, Co. Sligo where he leads a variety of spiritual retreats in Ireland. Most of the tracks in this week's show are not mentioned during the broadcast. So if you want to find out who was played, please visit the shownotes at CelticMusicPodcast.com. All of the songs are time stamped to make it easy for you to find out who was played. I am a Celtic and Geek musician and podcaster. This show is dedicated to the indie Celtic musicians. I want to ask you to support these artists. Share the show with your friends. And find more episodes at celticmusicpodcast.com. You can also support this podcast on Patreon. One of my main goals in creating this podcast was to help Celtic bands make new fans and sell more albums. But the business is changing. So I created a Top Irish & Celtic Music playlist on Spotify to reflect that change. Every couple o'weeks I update the playlist with your favorite songs and tunes featured in the latest episode. And of course, I will also compile your favorite music into the Celtic Top 20, featuring the most-popular songs of 2018. Check out the playlist. Then vote in the Celtic Top 20 to help these bands make new fans. Do you have a quick and easy way to listen to the podcast? Yes. The show is available in every podcatcher. But we also have our own Irish & Celtic Music Podcast app. And it's free! Visit our shop to download the app today. TRAVEL WITH CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans on the relaxing adventure of a lifetime. We don't see everything. Instead, we stay in one area. We get to know the region through it's culture, history, and legends. You can join us with an auditory and visual adventure through podcasts and videos. One of my favorite places on the Celtic Invasion of Brittany was the Cairn of Gavrinis in the Gulf of Morbihan. Fortunately, I made a video of the excursion. You can watch the video on my YouTube channel. And subscribe to see some videos from my Celtic Invasion of the Isle of Skye this summer. Join the invasion at http://celticinvasion.com/ THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast is supported by listeners like you. Your generous pledge helps pay for the production and promotion of the podcast and its artists, as well as my time in producing it. Patrons get episodes before regular listeners, discounts on merch, and when we hit a milestone, you get a two-hour special. Our next milestone will bring 2-hours of Celtic flute and whistle music to your ears. I want to thank our newest Patrons of the Podcast: Keriann Noble and Tracy Beedy who raised their subscription.
