This is exactly what some DJs did back in the 70s as they launched careers. I'm always honored to feature a band when they give me permission. But I'm doubly honored to share the music of Poitin. Poitin has been regularly featured on this podcast since 2009. It was their traditional Irish set of Congress Reels that first grabbed my attention. But since then, they've released album after album of great music. Last year, they sent me their album "Wish" and it's been one of the albums I've given to my Sainted Song Hengers and one I still enjoy in my car when I'm not listening to podcasts. Now I want YOU to listen and enjoy the entire album. As usual with bands on this podcast, there's a small request that goes along with it. If you enjoy the album, please consider buying the CD or an MP3 of your favorite track. Or head on over to iTunes, CD Baby, or Amazon and post a review of how much you enjoyed the album. Or join their mailing list so that you can be notified when their Poitin's new album comes out this fall. Independent Celtic musicians like Poitin rely on your generosity. Because without you, we can't make a living with our music. So please show your support in some form or fashion. * I WANT YOUR FEEDBACK: Call 678-CELT-POD to leave a voicemail message. I was surprised to hear you play Tam Lin by Coyote Run, although it was a great choice for Halloween. CR was an awesome band. They played the PA Ren Faire a lot. Between Wick and Flame is a fantastic album. They've got a bunch but two of my other favorites would be Places and Coyote Run Pleads the 5th. If there's any chance you can get a hold of some tunes from either one of those it would be great for your listeners. The fiddle special was amazing! Glad you got Burning Bridget Cleary in there. "Oh My Little Darling/Fire on the Mountain" by Burning Bridget Cleary from Pressed For Time -- also not your typical celtic music. But it definitely showcases their talent. I'm happy to help support this incredible podcast on Patreon. Keep up the great work! You continue to do a fantastic job with the podcast, and I'm eagerly awaiting the upcoming Celtic Halloween show. I've got my own "Samhain 2015" playlist put together and I'd love to get your opinion of it. Once again thank you so much for putting out all that phenomenal Celtic music for us all to enjoy. Slainte! Laurie Gardner wrote: Hello Marc! I am listening to one of your shows at the moment and decided to write you a quick note to say how much I enjoy your podcast. The music is always excellent. I studied traditional music as a teenager and sang with some wonderful artists. Even though I did not continue singing, (in public) I was captivated by Scottish music and tradition and still love listening and singing folk music. Your show has been the perfect way for me to stay connected to the traditional music world. For the past 8 years my husband and I have spent 2 weeks a year in the UK. We have been to such wonderful places. I love that you help more people visit as part of your dedication to a beautiful musical style. Thank you. The picture is from our most recent trip to the highlands. From the walls of the ruin of Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe in Dalmally. A gorgeous little place, well worth adding to one of your tours. I connected on Facebook with a gentleman named Kenny Grey who has a photographic business called Island Images. He and Krissy, his fiancée are amazing people and his pictures of the area are splendid. We had a great meal and pints of local ale at a coaching inn in Dalmally that could work for a group: http://www.gle

Traditionally, Samhain is celebrated from sunset on 31 October to sunset on 1 November, which is about halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. It is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals, along with Imbolc, Beltane and Lughnasadh. Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. Similar festivals are held at the same time of year in other Celtic lands; for example the Brythonic Calan Gaeaf (in Wales), Kalan Gwav (in Cornwall), and Kalan Goañv (in Brittany). * Did you get to listen to Show #229: 2-Hours of Celtic Fiddle Music. Do it! I’m not saying you should join me on one of my Celtic Invasion Vacations. I’m not saying you should join another tour group. But travel. Go. Right now. Mark Twain wrote: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” Traveling will change your life for the better forever. Stop waiting for the “right moment”. Start planning now. If you enjoy my music, then join me on a Celtic Invasion of another Celtic country. Ep 219#219: Siren's Song of the Selkie

We're back to regular episodes of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast after two weeks of special editions. While looking for songs for the ten year Celtic music retrospective, I couldn't find some Celtic MP3s that I played on this show. So I dug into my portable hard drive to find a whole bunch of MP3s I forgot to transfer back to my computer when I was updating my system years ago. So you'll enjoy a flashback of Siren's Song, a band I haven't played in a long time. Plus, great indie Celtic music from Keelhaul, Colin Farrell, Barrowburn, Kevin Behan, Siren's Song, Cele De, Danny Carthy, Noirin Ni Riain, Sanctuary, Nathan Gourley and Laura Feddersen, Heather Dale, Iarla O'Lionaird, The Clanns, The Mighty Regis, Mwnci Nel, Liz Madden. celticmusicpodcast.com/219 If you enjoy this show, then subscribe to our Celtic Music Magazine. Ep 218#218: Voicemail from Best Celtic Music Retrospective

Last Thursday, I shared a ten-year retrospective of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, featuring 3 hours of great Celtic music by some of the best indie bands online. It was three hours long because fans of the show got behind it through my Celtic Music Challenge. You made pledges to the podcast on Patreon, and you also left voicemails. So many voicemails! The voicemails are the reason I decided to create a bonus episode. By calling in, you were saying you wanted a three hour show. That's great, but to clog the show entirely with over 70 voicemails. That just didn't seem fair. So instead, I'm gonna fill this bonus show with voicemail. PLUS, I'm also gonna add in some of the other awesome songs and tunes from my Best Of episodes If you enjoy this show, then subscribe to our Celtic Music Magazine. Ep 217#217: 10 Years of Great Irish & Celtic Music, a Retrospective

On July 28, 2005, the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast was born from my love of Celtic music. I had been cultivating that love through my Celtic Music Magazine which featured album reviews and free Celtic MP3 downloads from many of the bands on this podcast. The podcast quickly overtook the magazine in popularity. I had three main goals when I created this show. First, to help indie Celtic bands find new fans. Second, to give Celtic music fans a free, easily downloadable show where they could enjoy the music of their cultural heritage. Third, I wanted a Celtic radio show that was focused on the music. What's that phrase: "Less talk, more music". But I wanted it to be true. So I have long sets and usually short breaks where I share news and feedback. There are a bunch of additional reasons, including a latent desire to be a DJ. I'll tell you more about it later. In the meantime, I want to share with you some of the best Celtic music featured in the podcast over the past ten years. Every month, I host the Celtic Top 20 where I ask you to vote for your favorite songs in each episode of the podcast. I've done this since almost the first year. That's how I created this show. It's the songs that fans of the podcast voted for over the last ten years. I just went in and cut down ten hours of music to a meer three hours. I hope you will celebrate your love of Celtic music with me and these amazing Celtic bands with music from The Tea Merchants, Heather Alexander, The McDades, Colleen Raney & Colm MacCarthaigh, Jamie Laval and Ashley Broder, Clandestine, Athas, Sligo Rags, Navan, Jimi McRae And Sam Okoo, Heather Dale, Hawp, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Round the House in the first hour. You'll hear The Elders, Mary Knickle, Kennedy's Kitchen, Tara MacKenzie, Fiddler's Green, Rising Gael, Rambling Sailors, Bow Triplets, Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer, Poitin, Ockham's Razor, Gwilym Morus, LabGraal, The Selkie Girls in the second hour. Then we'll finish the show with Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones, Maidens IV, The Gothard Sisters, The Killdares, Tullamore, Marc Gunn, Across the Pond, Anne Roos, Holly Kirby, Molly Bauckham, Tallymoore, Samantha Gillogly & Tim Maurice, Stout Pounders, Rathkeltair, Black 47, The Rogues, Flashpoint. Ep 215#215: Irish Whiskey on Sunday

Can you believe that Southern liquor laws prevent the sale of alcohol on Sunday? Even after 30 years or so of living in the South, it still boggles my mind. I believe everyone should be able to buy or drink Irish whiskey on Sunday. This is not a political episode though. Just my two cents worth. Vote these laws down. Then start drinking some of the finest Irish music right now with awesome Celtic music from Chief O'Neill's Mixed Flock, Maggie Sansone, Rob Higginbotham, Stout Pounders, Breabach, Ron Cody, Marc Gunn, The Gothard Sisters, Jesse Ferguson, Whiskey Sunday, Finbar Furey, The Ne'er Duwels, The Rathmines, Rathkeltair, The Flying Toads. celticmusicpodcast.com/215 If you enjoy this show, then subscribe to our Celtic Music Magazine. Today's show is brought to you by Celtic Invasion Vacations If you are listening to this podcast then you probably dream of traveling to one of the Celtic nations. So I have one piece of advice. Do it! I'm not saying you should join me on one of my Celtic Invasion Vacations. I'm not saying you should join another tour group. But travel. Go. Right now. Mark Twain wrote: "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." Traveling will change your life for the better forever. Stop waiting for the "right moment". Start planning now. If you enjoy my music, then join me on a Celtic Invasion of another Celtic country. In 2016, we're going to Cornwall in search of Celtic culture, King Arthur and the Holy Grail. Will you join us? Mark Twain wrote: "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Ep 212#212: Back from Donegal

I got back from my annual Celtic Invasion Vacation. I spent the past week invading Donegal and the Giant's Causeway. At home, with a new baby, I don't have a lot of time, but I wanted to make sure you had a show to enjoy. So listen to great indie Celtic music from Athena Tergis, Joe Travers and Adam Alexander, The Tea Merchants, Plaidgrass, Stanley & Grimm, Michael DeAngelis, Celtic Cross, Fiddler's 3, Wicked Tinkers, Slip, Mason Brown, Bonnie Rideout, Marc Gunn, Raymond McCollough, Breabach. celticmusicpodcast.com/212 If you enjoy this show, then subscribe to our Celtic Music Magazine. Mark Twain wrote: "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." There was no greater evidence of this for me than when I took my one and a half old daughter to Ireland in 2012. You could almost see a mind explosion as her linguistic and mental skills grew through our travels. It is the same with adults. Traveling to Ireland or Scotland, or wherever, will change your life for the better forever. Stop waiting for the "right moment". Start planning now.
