We then gather 3-5 journals per show and put them together to share with you. It's an exciting way to discover up and coming talent and revisit established artists. We've featured artists from all over the world. You should consider being on it, too! Just click to our website for details and watch all the shows. I've listened, bought a compilation, several individual tunes, a CD and t-shirt from the Corktown Popes, etc. The shout out reminded me to make arrangements to become a financial supporter and I took care of that just now. Thanks for the wide variety you bring to the listeners. I love Altan, The Chieftains and others but I love being exposed to folks I might never hear of otherwise. Thanks again" Johnny Sinclair emailed: "Hello Marc, Been a subscriber to your podcasts since #1 though I had a data loss that lost most of them. The new site took some getting used to but should be fine. I do understand that many think they are reaching a greater audience through the use of Facebook, or other social media. Doing so, however, alienates those of us that despise social media in all its forms. Legacy platforms are where you began and I can only hope that you continue." Glen Singer emailed: "Hi, Have never listened to Celtic music. That said, I saw your podcasts, so what the heck, I gave it a listen. Wow - fantastic! Just finished walking around Halifax, and listened to your new posting on the Texas festival. I am hooked. Being that I am a newbie, are there any introductory Celtic music podcasts out there? I know the hard work that goes into the entire podcast process-You do it well: combination of music and context/dialogue. Kind Regards." The music you play often reminds me of my Irish Grandmother who would sing many family songs, some were great old drinking tunes too. My very Scottish Grandfather would laugh along to her funny songs and play his auto harp. We would sing with them and laugh with the funny songs drinking our root beer ice cream floats while the adults enjoyed their beverages too. I miss those days while I still enjoy doing the exact same traditions with my modern era family. Keep up the awesome work, you remind me of the words of a forgotten song at least once a night." Yesterday, I went live on Facebook for about an hour as I worked on the shownotes for this week's podcast. I had a nice time chatting with listeners. And best of all, I got some input for new artists to contact for the show. While it might not've been gripping video, it was a valuable way for me to connect with you the listener and new bands. So I want to try this again next Friday, May 12 at 9 am central. I'll put up an event page on Facebook with details. CelticMusicPodcast.com is now fully integrated with Libsyn. My hope is have a more stable website for visitors. I also have bestcelticmusic.net as the side website to help promote the show. Of course this big change means my old [email protected] email address is no longer valid. I'm still trying to migrate the CelticMP3s.com reviews. But we'll see if I can find a way to do that. If you want some more May the Fourth Sci Fi Pub Songs, I recorded an episode of the Pub Songs Podcast last year for Star Wars Day. It's show #141. You can find a link in the shownotes. My latest Kickstarter features pub songs inspired by Joss Whedon's TV show, Firefly, and movie, Serenity. I decided to do this feature as an extra way to financially support the event. You see, every time you buy one of our compilation CDs or make a pledge to the podcast on Patreon, I donate some of the money to Celtic non-profits. Many of them are non-profit Celtic festivals. Last fall, I sent the Texas Scottish Festival a donation. I thought it'd be nice to promote the event with a special feature, especially since I have permission from many of the artists who are performing at the festival. Today's show is brought to you by Celtic Invasion Vacations Every year, I take Celtic music fans on an adventure of a lifetime. This is not your typical wham-bam-thank you m'aam tour. We travel in small groups. We explore the Celtic history of different regions. We don't need to see everything, because this is a vacation. Instead, our invasion brings out the relaxation and magic of our adventure. In 2018, you can join me on a Celtic Invasion of the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Sign up to the mailing list at celticinvasion.com. Notes: * Helping you celebrate Celtic culture through music. My name is Marc Gunn. I am a musician and podcaster. You can share this show and find more episodes at celticmusicpodcast.com. And you can support this show on Patreon. If you're new to this show on iTunes or elsewhere, I welcome you. My goal is to bring together small indie Celtic bands with Celtic music fans. So each week, I share an hour-long episode packed full of amazing indie Irish and Celtic music. Most of the bands, you have probably never heard of. Yes, there some that are turning heads in the Celtic music scene. But most are small. They don't have a record label. They can't afford a publicist. But the music is just as good. They deserve to be heard. So if this show moves you, please do us all a BIG favor and SHARE IT on social media. Or tell a friend. Help spread the word. Now with every episode I ask you to vote for your favorite bands in that episode. At the end of the year, I compile all of your favorites into this show--the Celtic Top 20. These are the Top 20 Celtic bands that you thought were the best in 2016. When you're done listening, go cast your vote. Then listen to past episodes and to the same. You can do all of that on the website at celticmusicpodcast.com/vote/. * CELTIC PODCAST NEWS: We have a new YouTube Channel. To subscribe, follow this link. Awesome Scottish music is pretty easy to find. There's a lot of brilliant traditional songs as well as modern songs and songwriters coming out of Scotland. This show touches on a teeny, tiny portion of the Scottish music I have in my catalog. You can expect a lot more when we hit our $500 milestone on Patreon. In the meantime, enjoy music from The Rogues, Bonnie Rideout, Battlefield Band, Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer, Ed Miller, Andrew McKee, Wicked Tinkers, Don Grieve, Brobdingnagian Bards, Caledonia Swing, Lady Moon, The Freestylers of Piping, Jasper Coal, Hugh Morrison, Jiggernaut, Kilted Kings. Ep 283Great Celtic Music Hiding at Renaissance Festivals #283
If you love acoustic Celtic music, you will find no better place to find great Celtic music than at Renaissance Festivals. Yes, I know the Celts had nothing to do with the "Renaissance", but Celtic music is one of the most-popular musical styles found at Ren faires. It's one of the last places where you can find true folk music without electric instruments or drum kits. Today, you'll hear a lot of great Celtic songs and a few tunes from Sarah Marie Mullen, The Poxy Boggards, Kilted Kings, Abby Green, Andrew McKee, The Ravens, 3 Pints Gone, Grey Aengus, Shillelagh!, Celtic Squall, Alabannach, The New Minstrel Revue, Cantiga, Minstrosity, Bounding Main, Lost Boys, Three Quarter Ale. Several years ago Alec and Dan the founding brothers of Scythian, released a kids album for their 25 nieces and nephews called Cake For Dinner. It's a nice mix of traditional Irish songs like South Australia and The Littlest Jig, as well as folk and campfire songs from the U.S., French Canadian, Italian, and Ukrainian. Check it out at http://cakefordinnermusic.com. Plus their newest album Old Tin Can, is a return to their folk roots. A great band for all ages. Hi Marc, I've been meaning to email you for awhile now, but have been remiss in getting it out. It's actually my birthday today and the latest Irish & Celtic Music podcast was a great present! My son is also performing tonight, as he plays Viola in the 7th grade orchestra at his middle school. Just a couple of weeks ago we both we're in recital at our local Suzuki school (my piece was Loch Lommond). Sorry I'm rambling here, but just want to say how great the podcast continues to be and thank you for all the work you put into it. I usually listen while I'm walking and here are a couple of pictures of springtime in East Tennessee. Thanks again for you do on the podcast. Slainte! Hank Woodward Hey Marc, thanks for enriching my life with your wonderful podcast. I'm a 27-year-old violinist in Melbourne, Australia. I'm battling chronic illness which means I can't move far from bed lately, so it's wonderful to have such dependably brilliant music to soothe me, lift my spirits and help keep me warm as our winter sets in!
