Hey you wild women! Want to learn the secret to living a well-rounded life? Here it is… It's getting radically clear on what your ideal life looks like and how you can make more time space for the things that matter most to you. Many of us struggle to delegate tasks in our business or home lives because we feel guilty, or even feel like we're failing. In this episode, Geomyra and I discuss the importance of systems, how being well-rounded is different than the idea of balance, and why asking for help is a win-win for everyone involved. 146. How to go From Being the Best Kept Secret to a Household Name with Jen Gottlieb
Want to get ahead in business and life? Here's the solution: Pour your energy into something you love. Then commit to taking daily action towards that thing. More importantly, screw what everyone else thinks. Seriously, screw it. Nothing is more heartbreaking than seeing women create very low limits because they are afraid of disappointing their mothers, worried about the backlash if they shine brighter than their peers, or feel shame in earning a lot of money because they were told it is selfish. It's a story that I've seen hundreds of times with women at every stage in business, and this is why I had to have Jen Gottlieb, Co-founder of Super Connector Media and former VH1 co-host, on the show. She defied the odds and staked the claim to become one of the best motivational speakers ever. And hey, why the hell not?! She decided to stop pleasing everyone else to follow her dreams, and she's driving that bus 100 miles/hour down the freeway. "Your subconscious is the thing that's driving the bus, and if it believes that you are the champion, it's going to help you take action in the way that is going to get you the things that you want." - Jen Gottlieb. In this episode, you will learn about: How to take rejection How confidence comes from consistently sticking with the commitments you make to yourself How failure doesn't ever feel as bad as the fear of the failure How to get really good at making NO your best friend The secrets to how she grew her agency What it means to be a wild woman: It's to unapologetically speak your truth and go for what you want. - Jenn Gottlieb Mentions: The best year blueprint Got a minute? If there is one thing money can't buy, it's time. Turns out, my husband, Dan Martell, figured out a way to buy back time so that you can do the work that lights you up. Not the mundane crap that keeps you busy but not productive. I am talking about sustainable ways to delegate, including procedures that teach you how to quickly and efficiently onboard contractors or employees. These rules even apply to family life. In this episode, Dan and I discuss how we hired a night nanny when our kids were young and even outsourced daycare pick-up so that we could both jump on morning team calls without stress. We touch on everything else high performers should be delegating, like house cleaning, cooking, landscaping, pool maintenance, snow removal, and even gift buying. There is nothing you can't delegate. In this episode, you will learn about: Why Dan wrote his book How to buy back your time (obviously) The three S's of pain in growing a business How buying time is the first principle approach to scaling yourself The most common roadblock in growing a business Your 'buy-back rate' The perfect week ----------- Got a minute? 144. How to Use Social Videos to Reach More Customers With Elise Darma
Hey you wild women! I know, I know, I knowwww....you hate shooting videos. Me too! The thought of having to get all dolled up, create the speaking notes, find the trending audio and hashtags, shoot and re-shoot one bajillion takes, and tie it all together to hopefully publish a video that goes viral, or at least your mom views and likes - makes you wonder what more you could have done with your time. All for what? The faith that it will make you famous and get you flooded with clients. Here's to dreaming 🥂 Or not. As this week's guest explains, "Pick up your phone and film. It's never going to be perfect. If the information is good, people won't care about the production value," she is so right. I had a little Reel go viral (248k views) last fall, and while I didn't see a direct customer come from it, I did get more relevant and engaged followers. It also helped one prospect relate to me enough to be confident in hiring me (soooo it did garner me a sale!) Videos are intimidating at first, but Elise Darma explains to us why they are important and how to get started. Elise Darma is a marketing coach who specializes in helping not-so-Insta-famous business people make actual revenue directly from social media. She's helped over 30,000 people grow their businesses, sell more programs, and build money-making brands. Elise has been featured for her expertise in Forbes, Entrepreneur, Digital Marketer, and Social Media Examiner. In this episode, Elise and I discuss the why behind the importance of creating social video content and the how and highlight how she stays consistent with content creation and engagement. 143. How to Build a Business You Love Without the Hustle with Jadah Sellner
Hey you wild women! I used to live my life in a state of overwhelm. I was busy doing the stuff that felt productive but wasn't moving the needle. It was an avoidance mechanism because I was too afraid to succeed. Success meant more hours at the office, time away from my family, and putting my health on the back burner. I could coast if I put in more hours and could stop when things started to get good. Coasting was safe and predictable, but I never progressed as a result. That eventually led me to burnout. I never learned the suitable systems to manage my business or how to delegate effectively. Ultimately, we established OKRs, implemented great project management systems, and adopted decent recruiting techniques, but the damage was already done. The hustle burned me out, and I eventually threw in the towel. To say I *may* have regrets, well, sure. I built a great business, just a little ass-backward. But if I had to do it again, I would first implement what this week's guest, Jadah Sellner, highlights in this episode and her book SHE BUILDS: The Anti-Hustle Guide to Grow Your Business and Nourish Your Life. First thing I am doing starting today: Implementing support mechanisms! "When we operate at this high level of ambition, creativity, output, and double duty of business and home life, we need a lot of support mechanisms in place to hold us as we grow." - Jadah Sellner In this episode, you will learn about: The need for a support squad How to keep going despite the opposition How to stop doing things to impress others Why toughness is self-defined Understanding what is enough for you Calculating your enough number How the constant chase for more isn't fulfilling How to avoid the fear cycle that leads to exhaustion What it means to be a wild woman: Being connected to your capacity for pleasure and in that place of power, asking yourself, "how do I turn myself on?" 142. How to Give Yourself Permission to Offend with Rachel Luna
The last few years have taught us how offended people have become. I don't think that the collective sensitivity is growing, but people are more open and courageous to share, in public, how they feel. Unfortunately, while many more also find comfort in blabbering their thoughts from behind their screen, most don't give a sh*t about two-way dialogue. And that's where our problems fester - when we don't provide space for others to share their opinion without scrutiny. What Rachel shares with us in this episode is how to stand in your truth fully so that you can be all of you without worrying who you offend because..." Your existence is an offense to someone, so give yourself permission to be offensive in your truth and faith and own all the parts of you. And then, from there, be curious." If you must claim your ignorance, please start by understanding that you aren't right, nor are they, we have different truths, and that is ok. After chatting with Rachel, I got all fired up and ready to start doing more and shining my light even brighter - by being a lighthouse - so that I can help light the way for all to see. She helped me better understand that I am supposed to have my feelings and that what I experience, my perspective, is what makes me, me. Your thoughts and actions, well, make you, you. It's a must-listen to episode. In this episode, you will learn about: How to get your team to support you during the toughest times We should never dismiss the grieving process Why you should never use being offended as a weapon Why we shouldn't try to change someone's belief system without giving them space to explain themselves There is no such thing as reverse racism What it means to be a wild woman: Freedom to be, whatever being means to you. Hey you wild woman! If you're too busy counting calories, you won't have time to count your dollars. Why do we obsess more about our weight and looks than our money? Imagine what we could accomplish if we cared more about our financial abundance than our pant size. Not saying you don't focus on health. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I am all about an active life full of exercise and nutritious food. But I know we could all use more financial health. As this week's guest, Heidi, explains, where you stare is where you're going to go. And the more you look at your finances, the more they will grow. It's even one of my repeatable morning actions (from The Morning Practice Planner) to look at my bank account every morning. This way, I can't ignore what's wrong, if there is anything, and I can celebrate the daily progress. You will want to catch this episode, especially if you need a kick in the pants to get your personal and business finances into good health. Hey you wild woman! Do you believe that everyone is here to create an impact?Do we all have something outstanding inside of us that can create lasting change You may doubt your significance. We all do at times, so I want to encourage you to list the great things you've already accomplished. 139. How Resilient People Manage Stress with Dr.Deborah Gilboa
When we're navigating something new or have a big decision ahead of us, we often stall at making a choice. This occurs for many reasons, including lack of strategy, limited attention spans, stress, unclear values, cognitive biases, and our tendency to overestimate our abilities. And for us women, we overvalue what other people think. So even if it's clear as day, we will choose something that we believe favors the group over what we know is right. Sound familiar? This week I chat with the talented Dr. Deborah Gilboa about becoming a more resilient version of yourself and how to make choices with conviction. Here's a tip... When faced with s big decision, ask yourself, "What choices do I have?" List the options and then align your intention and purpose. This will help point you in the right direction, no matter how it turns out. Good or bad, the outcome will be expected (and something you're prepared for.) There are way too many expectations of us as women and mothers, and some of the best advice, although easier said than done, is to quietly not buy into it. Ask yourself, what are all the things you need to let go of? A messy house Fast food meals Matching sock Know what hill you want to die on. Messy bedrooms, dirty kitchen, overflowing inbox... You have to pick what's right for you and prioritize accordingly. You can't please them all, so focus on who you must pay attention to and forget the rest. You only have so much capacity in a day, a life, and the most important people in your life, are right in front of you. Be there for them. And if you have a business, create and PROTECT the time for the most critical tasks so you can be home every day. Hey you wild women! Personal development is not a weekend course, it's a lifelong journey, and if we aren't facing our trauma, we can't heal the pain. And if we can't heal the pain, there is no chance we can move on, grow, and prosper because we will stay stuck in a vicious cycle of despair. I learned this week while chatting with the brilliant Tracy Litt that everyone can heal. And this is especially true when it comes to muting the dialogue in your head about how you're not good enough or experienced enough to do what you want and be who you like. Tracy's guiding principles around identity (who you are and how you want to be perceived) were shaped by the following quote: "Someone once told me the definition of hell; on your last day on Earth, the person you could have become will meet the person you became." You owe it to yourself to become that person today, so tune in to listen to her guiding wisdom. Do you remember the last time you stopped doing a task you knew you shouldn't be doing? Or the last time you delegated something you've been managing for way too long? I bet you felt really good. And I bet it opened up a lot of space in your calendar to do the things you are more passionate about. I'll never forget when I hired Shanelle to work with me in my agency. She randomly pinged me on Twitter to offer to help me write some blog posts, which eventually led to her managing the company blog and growing the business. At the time, I had little time for outlining content, writing, editing, and publishing, though it was an essential business task. So when Shanelle showed up in my life, it was a blessing that I needed to work with someone who was good at it and gave me the capacity to scale. 134. How to Discover your Authentic Self with Annie Leib
80% of the people around you don't have guiding principles. They don't have values or words they live by, and they aren't accountable to themselves. They coast through their days, just going through life in ways other people expect of them, not representing themselves as their authentic selves. So, naturally, this leaves them feeling empty. Living out of integrity with what we want makes us feel depleted, chronically tired, and anxious. We hold onto our old ways because it feels safe, even though it's killing us. "You think you're getting more control by holding on so tightly, but if you loosen the reins to what you're holding on to, you can have a much freer life." - Annie Leib. So how do you break out of that give give give mentality and find inner peace? It starts with what my guest Annie Leib calls the BREATH modality, and we go into it on this week's episode. Annie is a Global Credibility Expert, 2x TEDx speaker, an international bestselling author of over 60 books, and a publisher of over 750 books. She has worked with Fortune 500 companies, including a multi-billion dollar corporation, to create better leaders who directly impact staff loyalty, client retention, and an increased bottom line. Why do we do this to ourselves]? This sense of not-enoughness... The cleaning crew was hired to clean, not to expect a clean house when they arrive. They don't care if the place isn't perfect. After all, it is their job to make it sparkle. It's why you hired them. So if this is you, ask yourself, where else in your life is this showing up? Perhaps it's in fear of delegation, the worry about trying something new, or even the stories you tell yourself about how you're not good enough.
