Episode 314: Sasha Wolff – Founder of Still I Run; Running for Mental Health
Sasha Wolff is the founder of Still I Run. Still I Run is a community where people can share their experience of dealing with depression/anxiety etc. through running or any other type of physical activity. We encourage one another to take time out of our busy lives to run for our mental health. Through various programs we offer, we hope to educate others about running for mental health, raise mental health awareness, provide encouragement to others, and help people experiencing hardship get started in their running journey. Still I Run was founded by Sasha in 2016, however the idea for the group came to her a few years earlier. In 2011, she was hospitalized for anxiety and depression and one of the coping mechanisms she learned while getting help was the concept of creating healthy routines and habits. One day, shortly after discharge from the hospital, Sasha put on a very neglected pair of running shoes and decided to go for a short walk. That walk felt so great, that she kept doing it on a regular basis and eventually started to go faster and longer. She hasn’t stopped running for her mental health since. Once she discovered the benefits of running for mental health, Sasha wanted to connect with others who do the same thing. Unfortunately, she couldn’t find a group anywhere. Sasha is the mother of two, with one on the way, works full time and runs Still I Run in her spare time. She is so passionate about the mission of Still I Run and you’ll sense that in this conversation! JJ Santana is on a mission to run his fastest times at 34 and there’s a lot to sit back and watch. He debuted the marathon just two years ago at CIM in a time of 2:17, qualifying him for the Olympic Trials. He has only really raced two marathons and has a goal of breaking 2:14 this summer and even bigger plans beyond that. One of my favorite parts of this conversation is when he talks about mindset and how he feels about racing. Episode 296: Lauren Floris – Co-Host of the Up and Running Podcast!
Hi friends! I hope your Friday is off to a good start. I debated putting an episode out this week just due to the upsetting and horrific events that occurred at our nations Capitol on Wednesday. It feels a little weird to put out something so casual. I did ultimately decide to go ahead with an episode in hopes that you all might enjoy something light hearted on this Friday. I’ll just quote my tweet here from Thursday – “What happened yesterday was sad, pathetic and unacceptable. American democracy stands for the peaceful transition of power.” So for the podcast today – my guest Lauren and I recorded this on Tuesday before all of that went down. Otherwise I’m sure we would have discussed it to some extent in the episode. Lauren Floris, co-host of the Up and Running Podcast joins me today! If you don’t know Lauren- She first appeared on this show in 2017 for episode 95 right after she first qualified for the Olympic Trials. Lauren lives in Southern California with her husband Henri and their two daughters. She runs her own business – Up and Running Coaching AND the Up and Running Podcast while also running really fast. She ran in the Olympic Trials in 2020 and has recently even run a 5K PR on the track! Each month Lauren and have a casual catch up over on my patreon page for supporters over there and today I wanted to give you a sample (a big sample- this episode is a long one!) of what that looks like each month. In this episode we talk very casually about life, goals, family stuff and a little bit of running. We also talk about the enneagram, dreams for our businesses and I’m honest about the struggles about running my podcasts and network through the pandemic. We also recap some of our favorite episode of the year from both I’ll Have Another and Up and Running. Sign up for Patreon: I’ll Have Another Patreon Page Patreon is a platform for creators where regular listeners can support the work of the creator each month.
