Episode 315: Lauren Paquette – Take a chance on yourself; Training with NAZ Elite

Lauren Paquette is racing the 5,000m at the Sound Running event this weekend and she joins us on the podcast today. She is one of the newest members of Hoka One One NAZ Elite and we get to learn all about her journey to joining the team in this episode. Lauren ran for Baylor where she has held several school records and finished 7th in the 1500 at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships. After college she ran with Asics for a bit and joined a training group, but ultimately ended up training with her husband coaching her for several years before joining NAZ Elite. I LOVE the story of how she pursued joining the team- you’re gonna love it too. She currently holds a 15:10 PR in the 5,000m and a 31:53 10,000m PR. Though she was an 800-1500 meter runner for years, she now focuses on the 5,000m and 10,000m. Episode 314: Sasha Wolff – Founder of Still I Run; Running for Mental Health

Sasha Wolff is the founder of Still I Run. Still I Run is a community where people can share their experience of dealing with depression/anxiety etc. through running or any other type of physical activity. We encourage one another to take time out of our busy lives to run for our mental health. Through various programs we offer, we hope to educate others about running for mental health, raise mental health awareness, provide encouragement to others, and help people experiencing hardship get started in their running journey. Still I Run was founded by Sasha in 2016, however the idea for the group came to her a few years earlier. In 2011, she was hospitalized for anxiety and depression and one of the coping mechanisms she learned while getting help was the concept of creating healthy routines and habits. One day, shortly after discharge from the hospital, Sasha put on a very neglected pair of running shoes and decided to go for a short walk. That walk felt so great, that she kept doing it on a regular basis and eventually started to go faster and longer. She hasn’t stopped running for her mental health since. Once she discovered the benefits of running for mental health, Sasha wanted to connect with others who do the same thing. Unfortunately, she couldn’t find a group anywhere. Sasha is the mother of two, with one on the way, works full time and runs Still I Run in her spare time. She is so passionate about the mission of Still I Run and you’ll sense that in this conversation! Episode 312: JJ Santana – Healthy mindset with racing, 2:17 debut marathon & pacing duties at the Marathon Project for Sara Hall

JJ Santana is on a mission to run his fastest times at 34 and there’s a lot to sit back and watch. He debuted the marathon just two years ago at CIM in a time of 2:17, qualifying him for the Olympic Trials. He also had the super cool and fun job of pacing Sara Hall at the Marathon Project back in December and he shares about how he landed that duty in this episode. In this episode we dig into his pacing duties pacing Sara at the Marathon Project and we also talk about his big dream goals for his own running career which is blossoming! He has only really raced two marathons and has a goal of breaking 2:14 this summer and even bigger plans beyond that. One of my favorite parts of this conversation is when he talks about mindset and how he feels about racing. I hope it will help all of us reset how we think about it and enjoy it just a little bit more! This was a super long conversation so I pulled out a couple of parts and those pieces will be up on Patreon for extended conversation if anyone is interested in hearing more! He has a great perspective on everything and it was truly refreshing to talk with him for the show! SIDE NOTE- My mic didn’t turn on right for this episode and my end is kind of low on volume and a bit staticky. I’m so annoyed with myself! Episode 296: Lauren Floris – Co-Host of the Up and Running Podcast!

Hi friends! I hope your Friday is off to a good start. I debated putting an episode out this week just due to the upsetting and horrific events that occurred at our nations Capitol on Wednesday. It feels a little weird to put out something so casual. I did ultimately decide to go ahead with an episode in hopes that you all might enjoy something light hearted on this Friday. I’ll just quote my tweet here from Thursday – “What happened yesterday was sad, pathetic and unacceptable. American democracy stands for the peaceful transition of power.” So for the podcast today – my guest Lauren and I recorded this on Tuesday before all of that went down. Otherwise I’m sure we would have discussed it to some extent in the episode. Lauren Floris, co-host of the Up and Running Podcast joins me today! If you don’t know Lauren- She first appeared on this show in 2017 for episode 95 right after she first qualified for the Olympic Trials. Lauren lives in Southern California with her husband Henri and their two daughters. She runs her own business – Up and Running Coaching AND the Up and Running Podcast while also running really fast. She ran in the Olympic Trials in 2020 and has recently even run a 5K PR on the track! Each month Lauren and have a casual catch up over on my patreon page for supporters over there and today I wanted to give you a sample (a big sample- this episode is a long one!) of what that looks like each month. In this episode we talk very casually about life, goals, family stuff and a little bit of running. We also talk about the enneagram, dreams for our businesses and I’m honest about the struggles about running my podcasts and network through the pandemic. We also recap some of our favorite episode of the year from both I’ll Have Another and Up and Running. Sign up for Patreon: I’ll Have Another Patreon Page Patreon is a platform for creators where regular listeners can support the work of the creator each month. Rachel Schneider just won the 10,000m at the Track Meet in a time of 31:09 making her the 8th fastest American to ever run that distance. It’s been a long time since Rachel last raced and in this episode she shares with us what her mindset was going into this race. Episode 284: Casey Crouse & Trevor DeWitt – One Thousand One City, New Shoe Day

A Bonus episode today coming at you on a Wednesday!! Casey Crouse an Trever DeWitt join me on the show today to share about an amazing project they adventured on this summer called One Thousand One City. This episode is also being aired on the Illuminate Podcast but there’s so much running goodness in it that we gotta air it over here too! Casey Crouse and Trevor Dewitt are on the show today. Back in June they started a project called One Thousand One City which they completed this September. One Thousand One City started as a project aimed at connecting the city of Indianapolis by running 1000 miles through its neighborhoods in 100 days. The goal is to meet its citizens, listen to their stories, and share what they have to say. When the world often seems too big and disconnected, sometimes the best thing a person can do is to set out on their own two feet and simply meet people where they are at. At its core, OTOC is about taking on a difficult challenge in order to achieve growth towards a better sense of connectedness and understanding to those around us. Through OTOC, another project – New Shoe Day was formed and you’ll hear all about that and their vision for turning it into a non profit in this episode! Casey is a passionate ultra runner, passionate about movement, self-betterment, connecting to people and sharing personal stories of impact. Both Casey and Trevor work for Edge Mentoring – an organization that pairs young professionals with community leaders, EDGE provides the space for whole-person development while connecting generations in meaningful mentoring relationships. Trevor is the logistics guy and not only did he run every mile with Casey for this project but he mapped out much of it and made sure the planning was all figured out. This is a Cross Over Episode- it is also being aired on The Illuminate Podcast! The Illuminate Podcast is another podcast in the Sandyboy Productions network that highlights stories of people doing good work in the World. Episode 283: Sara Vaughn – Mom of four, realtor, 2017 team USA, pursuing olympic dreams

Sara Vaughn is the mom of four, she works full time as a realtor and is running big mileage weeks in hopes to make the Olympic team next year. To say she is inspiring to me would be an understatement. In 2017, when her third baby was one, she made team USA in the 1500 and competed in London. She has high hopes to do it again and I believe she can. Sara, who is coached by her husband Brent shares with us what her training is looking like now, one year post partum. We get to hear about how they are changing things up a bit and of course I wanted to know if she’ll ever throw down for the marathon. (She went on an 19 mile long run the other day so I had to ask.) We also talk a lot about family life in this episode. She became a Mom at a very young age, while still attending the University of Colorado, really defying the odds still graduating in just four years. Her kids now range from ages 1-14 so I was super curious about parenting through so many different stages at the same time. One thing I think Sara and I both want to leave you all with is that if you are parent to drop the guilt and that you can still pursue your own dreams while being a damn good Mom. Enjoy my conversation with Sara!
