Rituals = Richness: How to Re-Create Meaning for Your Self

It's my belief that we are too casual, too modern, too unconscious for most of the important activities of our days and lives. Without ascribing a significance and meaning to our actions, it becomes easier and easier to do things automatically and quickly. Slowing down - to say a prayer, reflect on the purpose - can bring us presence of mind and help us recognize the sanctity of this amazing experience. In this episode, I discuss:The ways in which we are detached from ritualsDating & marriage, feasting & fasting, manhood & womanhood as areas ripe for ritualsSuggestions on how and when to prayWhy we should create our own significance Resources mentioned include:Fred Provenza: Food, Farming, and Our Future on Living 4D with Paul Chek (Apple)Dr. Joe Dispenza's website Sal Di Stefano of Mind Pump on Wellness + Wisdom Podcast Thanks for listening to Who's to Say? with Tom Foolery. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot

I love poetry (as I mentioned in my podcast on Portals) because a poem can transport us to the boundless realm of imagination... It almost doesn't matter what the words say; what matters is how they make you feel, where they takes your thoughts, what the poem makes you want to do once you set it down. Often I fall into the trap of thinking that I'm not creative or original, especially when I come across a work of genius like this. But to take my own advice, the best thing we can do is APPRECIATE a work of art, and not condemn ourselves for not being capable of replicating its brilliance... at least, not yet. This episode is the first of many recitations - some from memory, some read from the page - that will highlight my favorite poems and oratory works, and may include some of my subjective reactions to the poem's meaning. I hope you enjoy this rendition of Who's to Say? Please share with other poetry enthusiasts. Thank you for listening to Who's to Say? with Tom Foolery. Portals in the Real World and How to Find Them

When I think of Portals, I think of magical thresholds that have the power to transport me anywhere: backwards in history, forward to the future, into realms of fantasy... Sounds kinda crazy, yes? Well, the beauty of imagination is that it can be entirely real and un-real at the same time, and only sounds crazy to those outside of its dimension. In a more tangible sense, I think we have access to these Portals through great books, epic music, deep conversations, honest writings, acts of love, and more! This episode is dedicated to exploring that thought and encouraging you ALL to seek out the media through which you can leave the confines of this moment to touch your potential. Everyone's taste and preference is different, but my hope is that we all might find some common threads that help weave a magnificent and timeless tapestry... THAT is the power of a Portal. Tennis Show #3: An Intersation with TennisAbstract.com Creator, Jeff Sackmann

My deep love of tennis has moved me to re-connect with various aspects of the game: coaching, playing, watching, reading, etc. What I could not have anticipated was the discovery of data that would capture my attention... I am so grateful to Jeff Sackmann for his work in collecting and organizing decades-worth of tennis statistics. He has artfully turned that collection into a fascinating data set that has become the go-to resource for people like myself, as well as world-class professionals such as Iga Swiatek and her team. Having followed his work throughout this year, I knew I had to have him on the podcast to indulge some of my questions as a tennis and baseball fan, and to better comprehend his massive undertaking to be the pioneer of modern data capture. Are You Coachable?

Are you open to constructive criticism? If you ask for someone's advice, will you listen even if it doesn't sound easy or sexy? It's not easy to always be receptive to outside guidance, but if we are feeling stuck or uncertain, an external perspective can be just the ticket. In this episode, I tackle a question that hasn't been asked much since the days of town soccer and tennis try-outs: are you coachable? This isn't exclusive to people working with trainers, coaches, mentors etc. We are constantly engaged in feedback loops; whether we choose to use their momentum to our advantage is another matter. If we want change, we need stimuli. If we need access to a new path, we need a guide. Many paths lead up to the mountain, but who would you choose to lead you? As always, questions begin the discussion, and the answers are up to you... Tennis Show #2: A Tribute to Roger Federer

I knew this day was coming, but it's still hard to say: Roger Federer has retired from professional tennis. For 24 years of my 28 years on this earth, Roger has been the consummate gentlemen's champion, fan-favorite, and family man. It's been hard to learn the intimate details of his adult life, but thanks to the passage of time, there is a surprising and entertaining amount of information now available to round out the romantic image of the Swiss Maestro. There are countless other monikers to describe Fed, but for me, he's simply the best role model I have ever seen. In this episode of Who's to Say?, I share my perspective on his career and his personal impact on his fans. He will be missed tremendously, but we have enjoyed over 1,000 matches, incalculable moments of raw effort and baffling grace, all of which will live on forever more. 'Who Draws the Lines?' Some Thoughts on My Dustup with Instagram

My first encounter with the censorship influences of Meta and social media companies really stirred me up... At the risk of making a mountain out of a molehill, I thought it would be productive to air my grievances with how this played out. I believe "sharing is caring", insofar as we can best express our concern and empathy through sharing our experiences, so that we can better heal and comprehend the dis-ease we encounter. The only thing more nefarious and degrading than censorship is self-censorship. This is a small effort to take back some ground we have lost... and as always, thank you to the people who engaged with my content and motivated me to address this for myself and on this platform. ***In more exciting news, my website is now live! 'Every Step Stronger': An Intersation with BOSU Ball Creator, David Weck

In this special edition of "Who's to Say? with Tom Foolery", I had the distinct pleasure of connecting with someone who is a genuine force of nature in the fitness industry. My love of fitness has tuned me in to some truly life-changing perspectives, helping me discover new and fun ways to express my God-given physical abilities . Few people have been more influential in the creative elements of that expression than David Weck. I first listened to David in an interview hosted by the legend Mark Bell while I was working out ahead of a friend's wedding in Atlanta. I distinctly recall having to rewind the podcast several different times to fully appreciate the knowledge being shared. David's unique genius and exceptional aptitude for disseminating his experience was captivating. And the PASSION - wow... even though I wasn't in that room, I could feel his aura palpably, and it inspired me to seek him out for an intersation. Renowned for his creation the BOSU Ball, David has made countless contributions in the sphere of human movement, applying his brand of genius to innovation of new tools and perspectives that help athletes reach their full potential. He is a world class authority in balance validated by the principles of locomotion, and he has not slowed his pursuit of useful knowledge. His outstanding inventions include the RMT Club, Pro-Pulse Speed Trainers, RMT Rope, SoleSteps, and the new Weck Deck. You can find those tools at the Weck Method website. He developed the BOSU Ball in 1999, and has been a mainstay in the world of physical education ever since, and we are all the better for it. Our discussion ranges from personal philosophies, staying resilient in the face of doubt and unjust criticism, bouncing back from mental breakdowns, creating change in how we think and move, and many other personally interesting topics. It was a privilege and a pleasure to have this occasion to connect with David, and I hope you can connect with our exploration of ideas, as well. 'Start Before You're Ready': An Intersation with Jeff Handler

Mentors and role models are hard to find anywhere, let alone in a gym... and yet, I was struck from the beginning by the force of one man's presence and its subtle, profound impact on the people around him.The idea of intersation and the inspiration behind "Who's to Say" revolve around input from the best minds and souls in my world. Jeff Handler has been a role model for me since I was a teenager, and well before that, he was already changing lives... By blending the interview with a friendly conversation, we were able to go deep into the mechanisms of his training world, his experiences leading teams, clients, and family, and his wisdom from self-exploration that he freely shares. I wanted to sit down with Jeff to get a feel for his approach to helping people take control of their health, and to learn what future he sees for himself and his community. Training Day: Building Blocks for Your Perfect Program

Simply put, the difference between training versus exercise is that training is dedicated, disciplined, planned to support our goals; exercise is fun, active, and generally unstructured. To that end, we can acknowledge that often what we lack in realizing our fitness and health dreams is a clear vision that shapes a clear path. I always encourage questions to kickstart this process, most importantly: who do I want to be?In this episode, I discuss:Why do we call it "training"?Preparation = FitnessBlending the Art with the Practice, according to Bruce Lee"Do less, better" & "Strength has a greater purpose"It's all an experiment - the greatest, in fact!Guiding Goals and questionsGPP = General Physical PreparednessThe W.O.W. The Perils of Isms, Part 2: Scientism

Richard Feynman famously stated that "science is the belief in the ignorance of experts." From the horse's mouth, that's a pretty compelling statement... it appears that, despite being very much within the heart of the scientific world, Feynman in his timeless wisdom understood the limits of their achievements. Such humility seems to be missing from the scientific community today, and as I lay out in this presentation, it is not so surprising given its modern history...In this episode, I discuss:The historic involvement of Rockefeller in the worlds of science and medicineOther major players molding the past, present, and future of material discoveryThe combined interests of corporatism and scientismChoosing irrational over rational understandingThe hubris of technocracyPlans NOT to save the planetMr. Gates, Mr. Schwaub, and the rest of the gangEnding on a positive note...Thank you as always for listening to "Who's to Say? with Tom Foolery". Tennis Show #1: French Open Rituals

The game of tennis is a beautiful medium for the game of life: bad bounces, good luck; weak opponents and strong adversaries; crushing failure and exhilarating victory; constant feedback and delayed gratification; grind, sprint, win, lose...Having played the game for more than twenty years now, it still never ceases to amaze me what I can learn about myself on the court. Competitive tennis is my favorite athletic endeavor, but it's a sheer joy any time I find myself with racket in hand, even by myself. This episode kicks off what I intend to be a regular series dedicated to the invaluable lessons that we all can pull from the drama that plays out to between the geometrically perfect white lines of a tennis court. I have found that there is hardly a better stand-in for life than sports, because they are unscripted and unyielding in their revelations. The quote from Andre Agassi's autobiography, OPEN: "It's no accident, I think, that tennis uses the language of life. Advantage, service, fault, break, love, the basic elements of tennis are those of everyday existence, because every match is a life in miniature. Even the structure of tennis, the way the pieces fit inside one another like Russian nesting dolls, mimics the structure of our days. Points become games become sets become tournaments, and it's all so tightly connected that any point can become the turning point. It reminds me of the way seconds become minutes become hours, and any hour can be our finest. Or darkest. It's our choice."Some links for your tennis education and entertainment:Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokovic, Wimbledon Final 2019 (YouTube)Open: An Autobiography by Andre AgassiDr. Jim Loehr's 16-Second Cure for Mental Toughness (YouTube)Thanks for listening to "Who's to Say? with Tom Foolery". Who's to Say (Part 2): My Teachers

It is a rarity to encounter great mentors and teachers in this day and age... that is why I had to enlist the help of some of the greatest minds of our generation (albeit, from a distance) to counsel me in my continuing education. Now, this is not a complete list of my adopted senseis, but these are the men and women, past and present, whom I believe have a lot of wisdom to offer for us all to - in the words of Paul Chek - "wake up, clean up, grow up, and show up". Our teachers don't just exist in "school". We should constantly be seeking an education from the great minds that we have now, and who have come before us. While the majority of these beings are still alive, they also stand on the shoulders of giants who stood out in the annals of history, and were lights in the darkness.I hope these resources will help kickstart you on your journey to awareness and love:Living 4D with Paul Chek - PodcastCHEK InstituteLaird Superfood - Laird Hamilton's plant-based nutrition companyPaul Chek's interview with Laird Hamilton (YouTube)"I Went Camping with... Who's to Say: Questions That Can't Be Answered

This podcast is dedicated to timeless truths, the adventures of living and learning, and through candid dialogue, uncovering some of the things we take for granted. I, for one, am hoping to add many companions in this pursuit... but I'd like to know what issues (or solutions) unite us, and how we can bridge the gap between the rest of us.We are still setting the stage for this first Act... to better explain the inspiration for this podcast, I thought it was helpful to explore the importance of the question, "Who's to Say?"...There are differences between authority and power, influence and coercion, truth and instruction. By asking questions - especially ones that challenge the source - are how we grow and get from A to B with more clarity. With that said, let's take some time to consider these tough personal questions:Who told you that X was the way to be?Who told you not to ask that question?Who said that it's not safe to do whatever you want? What are the traditions passed down through the years that you don't agree with? What did your parents (and their parents and their parents) tell you is a 'good life'? Is it really true? What would love do now? These are the introspective explorations that FIRE ME THE *** UP! The Anatomy of Happiness

It all started with my Olympic lifting coach saying to me, "Why are you making it LOOK so hard?!" From then on, I developed an intense commitment to focusing on aligning my body's reactions with my purpose and effort. To that end, I wanted to share my version of the 'Anatomy of Happiness', which are the manifest ways that we can bring our body into perfect alignment with our natural state of fluid happiness. It all starts with the feet, which lay the foundation for our ability to squat and jump and sprint (ankles-knees-hips), thus transferring power via the core and diaphragm (breath) into our upper frame (chest, shoulders), so that we can wear the crown of achievement (face, eyes). My marriage to the mind-body connection keeps me loyal to the principles of timeless energy, and they can only be unlocked once we train ourselves to honor our innate function and form. This is just surface tension, for what lies within us is far more profound than what lies without us... BUT, we still need to better understand the why's and what for's behind our anatomical structure. Our discussion does not end here, though we have set the stage for the beautiful dance of Life. Worse Things Than Hunger: A Fasting Guide

Going without is a lost practice in this day and age of hyper-availability. Therefore, the responsibility is ours to make things a bit more challenging, and at the same time, reap the benefits of simplicity. "Comfort is a false deity" is another reminder that I employ to seek out a bit more difficulty that will reward more than punish... through experience, I discovered that fasting was a free and staggeringly beneficial option for me to invite a bit more challenge into my life.Even if being hungry may seem painful, the choice to fast on a regular or intermittent basis will ease your pain and retrain your body's responses to the things you put in it. This is a phenomenal tool to increase your energy, enhance your potential for a longer and healthier life, and reprogram the ways in which we understand food as fuel. EP 4 - Why Am I So Angry?

"Anger is the frustration of a N.E.E.D.: a Need, Entitlement, Expectation or Demand." - Rabbi Mordecai FinleyWhere does anger come from? Why do we find ourselves at the mercy of its power? How do we keep ourselves from the regret of having to wonder, "Why did I just say/do that?!" As with anything, it starts with AWARENESS... to be able to watch emotions rise up within you is the first key to unlocking the antidote. In a solocast that uses the insights of American presidents, the Buddha, famed psychologists and religious mystics alike, Tom describes his concerns with the prevalence of anger in discourse, as well as how we come to understand the emotional origins. At the conclusion of this podcast, there is an invaluable outline of how the acknowledgments and agreements we hold ourselves to can make all the difference in combating angry impulses. Some resources discussed:Jordan Peterson's interview with Robert Greene, author of 48 Laws of PowerPaul Saladino's interview with THE LIVER KINGRich Roll's interview with Rabbi Mordecai Finley on YouTubeRabbi Finley's websiteThe Power of Story by Dr. Jim Loehr Thank you for listening to Who's to Say? with Tom Foolery. EP 2 - Ground Rules

A game without rules can be unfair, unfulfilling, and unsatisfying. That is why I thought it was important to take a few steps back and have a look at the set-up of this podcast, the latest game I'm playing...There will still be a genuine flow of creative energy and response to the moment and mood, but that being said, it is still necessary to set the table, prepare the meal, and serve with good timing. I discuss my correction policy, how I approach interviews with guests, the nature of standards, and what to expect from me and this production. I hope this will pique your interest even further, and encourage you to collaborate with me on Instagram @landshark_lomenzo and @whostosay_podcast.Thank you once more for lending me your ears... until next time. EP 1 - What Would Courage Do?

I don't think there is a better question to commence our journey together...This one has been on my mind every day since the start of this year. Time and again, with each novel adversity or daunting event, I have to wonder when the time will come for us to adopt a more courageous course to change our unsustainable ways. There are no clear answers, but in the words of the legendary physicist and man-of-the-world, Richard Feynman, "I would rather have questions that can't be answered than answers that can't be questioned." In this first episode, I share some answers that came to me whenever I contemplated what it means to be courageous. The three pillars of this ideal are: stepping out of the path of least resistance; sacrifice; and embracing compassion. Thanks to the works and words of Paul Chek, Fr. Anthony de Mello, Alan Watts, and more, I can 'stand on the shoulders of giants'So, thank you for joining me. I admire your courage in doing so...For updates and shared content from other great inspirations, please follow me on Instagram @landsharklomenzo and the podcast, @whostosay_podcast.
