Give Me Back My... the Podcast

This week begins our month of Neon as designed by our very own Nate. Every movie will have a very distinct color palette that sets it apart from the run of the mill movie experience. Our first selection is Psycho Goreman, a movie that.....******static****** "Pathetic humans using airwaves to spread my message of death and destruction. Foolish cowards that believe they tell my tale. Their feeble brains can only hold a fraction of the doom I bring. The torment I bring will be considered a gift compared to listening to this feeble rodent podcast. I will sit upon my mighty throne and vanquish any whoever recommend this show to me again."

This week we wanted to do something a little different, we wanted to do a true double feature. But not the kind we've done before when we cover two movies on one show...no, we wanted to cover two movies on two separate shows. We joined forces with A Cut Above: Horror Review show to cover the best possible double feature that fit both shows.... Grindhouse- featuring Planet Terror on their show and Death Proof right here. Both episodes are being released the same day so you the listener can experience a true Double Feature Podcast!!! On our show we dig into the Carpocalypse stylized side with Death Proof starring Kurt Russell in a super high octane, non stop ride of carnage directed by the man himself Quentin Tarantino. After that head over to A Cut Above to hear the rest of the story with Planet Terror directed by Robert Rodriguez. So join us and A Cut Above as we cover two fantastic grindhouse style movies (it doesn't matter which you listen to first either).

Well we've finally come to our final Month of Action movie selection. This weeks pick was purely for the love and nostalgia of 80s action movies and with that in mind I could only pick one movie.... "MegaForce"!!!! Join the guys as they relive their childhoods and watch a movie every 12 year old boy wished that he had wrote but reenacted it scene for scene in the backyard. We show our love for practical effects, miniatures, and some of the corniest dialogue captured on celluloid. We also receive a special message from our bothers over at $2 Late Fee because when it comes to MegaForce there's no else who loves this movie more than we do.... And remember, "The Good Guys Always Win.....even in the 80s"!!!!!!

There always seems to be an argument in the world that sequels are lesser parts than their original. We here at Give Me Back My Action Movies disagree with this ideology! This week we recruited some help with @phatsamurai and his action knowledge to breakdown "What happens when the buddy cops return?" So strap yourself to your toilet (check for bombs first) and be prepared for a non stop thrill ride. Huge thank you to The Phat Samurai for coming onto the show! Pop quiz hotshot.... You takeover a podcast with an entire month of actions movies...What is the most important movie you can cover?! Easy...'Speed' of course! Strap in and brace yourselves as the guys take you on a ride that is a high energy action packed film worthy of being called a Summer Blockbuster. This week we were able to get Troy back on the show and he brought an amazing surprise with him, so awesome we're not gonna spoil it here. This month Charlie has taken it upon himself to declare July the "Month of Action", horror always gets its spotlight in October so he decided that action needed a spotlight as well. And what better way to kick it off than to pick a movie with as many action stars as possible... Expendables 2!!!! But Charlie wasn't done there because he also brought a special guest this week, Eoin from The Action Elite (actionelite.com) to help ring in this newly appointed month. Listen along as Charlie compares the movie to an 'R' rated GI Joe film and how Nate and Eoin team up against Charlie with their critiques about certain aspects of the movie. Its a fun time as we get to enjoy watching our hero's all together on the big screen larger than life!!!

Anytime you sit down to watch a Cronenberg film you can always count on seeing something gross, disturbing or both...Usually both. Scanners has possibly one of the most famous practical gore effects in cinematic history. Even if you haven’t seen Scanners, you probably have seen this head explosion. The film is considered a classic by many horror fans but how does Charlie, Nate and Pete feel about it? How exciting is it to watch two full grown men stare at each other for 30 minutes? I’m not telling. You’ll just need to tune in.

The Raid obviously needs no introduction, as a film that took action fans by total surprise and gave the genre a much needed shot in the arm. It's also a film that Nate got to introduce to Pete once he discovered Pete had never seen this one before. And what better time to cover a modern martial arts movie than after doing one from the 70s with Monkey Kung Fu. So please enjoy this fast paced action packed episode! Join the guys as they express how much pain they would be in from every punch and kick this movie throws at you.

We wish we were covering this movie under better circumstances but unfortunately we recently lost Ray Stevenson. So Charlie and Nate decided to honor him the best way they knew how and make a bonus episode covering one of the most over the top ultra violent comic book movies to date.... Punisher: War Zone. The guys dig into what makes this version of the Punisher stand out amongst all the others and why after all these years they both still come back to this one time and time again. We are all saddened by Rays passing but take comfort in the legacy he left on film, so please enjoy our episode of Punisher: War Zone!!!

In the Summer of 2023, 3 podcasters went missing while trying to uncover the secrets of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Uh, well…The Next Generation) A film made by one half of the original movie team. Where does this movie stand in the very confusing timeline of TCM? Has this truly been a cult classic the entire time or is it the lowest point of the franchise? It did get a release from Shout Factory after all!

Podcasting is full of surprises, take for example the three surprising questions that popped up this week as we watched Monkey Kung Fu. First, if you had to guess, how many Shaw Brother Kung Fu movies released in 1979 have Monkey Kung Fu in the title? Second, "can a Kung Fu movie have too much Kung Fu?" And third, are Charlie and Nate mad at Pete again for picking another shitty film? Honest, these are questions the boys answered in this episode of 'Give Me Back My Action Movies'. That and a lot of silly filler since the movie was devoid of any plot whatsoever. Tune in and giggle along.

Our Creature Feature/Apocalypse month has not gone exactly as plan. Nate went rogue and bashed almost everything this month, Pete was in the middle of the road, and poor Charlie watched his heart get stomped on repeatedly. But a shining light (Bugzapper is more like it) was discovered. A giant bug (Wasp....thanks Nate) movie that the trio had never seen before that contained some amazing practical effects. (We will truly never know if Pete had seen this before or not) Could the month still be saved and our triumphant trip rally us together in a movie that hopefully answers the "Give Me Back" battle cry??!....probably not but we can guarantee this episode will be a helluva ride!

This week the guys cover another Post Apocalyptic movie called 'Steel Dawn', starring the always graceful yet completely badass Patrick Swayze. But its not just Patrick having to be a heroic Nomad this episode because Charlie found himself standing alone in his love of this 80's Sword and Sandal adventure. Nate and Pete unfortunately sided with the ever evil Hordes and tried to rip Charlies nostalgia to shreds just like how Danmil and Sho tried to destroy everything Nomad chose to defend....but they were unsuccessful in their treacherous plans as Charlie stood strong, unwavering in his resolve that Steel Dawn deserves to be counted among the action classics. So grab a cold glass of water, charge up your solar wind rider and enjoy this weeks discussion of another 80s VHS classic!

It's been teased long enough! This week Charlie was able to bring his very first 'R' rated monster movie to the podcast..."Deepstar Six". A movie that neither Nate nor Pete had seen before ( I know shocking right?!) but even tho it's one that Charlie has seen numerous times over the years he still found a new experience to share with everyone. Listen along to find out what Nate and Pete thought of one of the first undersea creature features of 1989 (there were several that year) and finally hear the story from Charlies childhood that forever shaped his love for monsters and movies!!!

We did it!!! We have finally arrived at our 100th episode of the podcast (not counting interviews). With so many great movies still to cover there is only one that could be our 100th movie....Demolition Man!!!!! A movie so great even Pete was excited to cover it along side myself and Nate as dove head first into pure action movie greatness. We talk about the many similarities of now versus then and how close the filmmakers were with getting scary accurate about what the future may hold. This episode turned into what we've decided to call our Giant Sized Episode with it being on the longer side, but fret not! NoES3 Sometimes nostalgia turns out to be rose colored glasses that paint the past favorites in a positive light only to let us down in our adult lives. Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors it anything but a letdown and the boys pee their pants singing the praises of this film. Well...maybe only Nate pee'd. This talk could still be going on had Charlie not reeled everyone in and made us do the bits. Frankly, the banter was going on so fast and loose that I can't remember what the heck we talked about but I promise it was a hoot. ....bitch

Charlie demanded an old school movie this week. There were no negotiations....period! So he tricked Nate into finally watching a movie he’s always ignored. Stone Cold!!! Now why did Nate always ignore this movie? The answer may surprise you and yet make total sense. Find out what happens when The Boz faces off with an unhinged Lance Henriksen. You’ll be surprised at how this one finishes.

Three-ways are a rare occurrence but when an opportunity arises you should never turn it down. The Give Me Back My Horror Movies podcast did just that and got the pleasure of being the meat in a podcast sandwich. Along with the "A Cut Above" and "Spoils of Horror" podcasts, we tackle the egregiously overlooked classic 'Children of the Corn' trilogy. "Hold on," you say, "Children of the Corn was a trilogy?" Well friend, it didn't start out intending to be a trilogy but it's what we got and certainly what we needed. Charlie, Nate and Pete dive into part two and come away in belly laughs and stitches. "Where has this movie been all my life," was a frequent question we asked ourselves. PLEASE make sure to watch all three before listening to our nonsense and help bring this film into cult classic status. Just to tease you a little more, this movie may have the best kill we have ever seen! It feels like forever ago that we covered a true dyed in the wool action movie. So this week Charlie and Nate decided what better movie to cover than 'The Last Stand' starring the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger! Listen along as the guys dig into the awesomeness of what many consider the return of Arnold to the action genre. With plenty of bullets, blood, fast cars, and an amazing supporting cast this weeks episode is a true return to form and delivers on its promise to... Give Me Back My Action Movies!!!!!

A new month approaches the podcast world. Nate and Charlie survived an apocalyptic February to the likes that had never been seen before. They kicked Pete out of the studio and made an appointment with The Dentist. A movie that haunted every kid in the video store aisle in the 90s. Was this enough to remove the tarnished stains of Pete month?

The final selection for "The Month of Pete" is completely banana pants. It's bloody. It's weird. It's nonsensical. It's outrageous. It's a little naughty. It's ROBOGEISHA!!! If you like Japanese splatter films like Machine Girl and Meatball Machine than you're in for a treat. No joke. This one is really weird and the boys should be thankful I didn't make them watch Takashi Miike's Gozu instead. Boob guns! Butt swords. Circular Saw Jaw! A geisha that turns into a tank and crawls up a building! Temple Kaiju! What's not to love?

*Spoiler Alert*!!! This description and episode will spoil the movie if you haven't seen it!....you've been warned! One Cut of the Dead Pete's third selection of the take-over month was a bit of a bait and switch. While not necessarily a "horror movie" it is a movie about making a horror movie. "One Cut of the Dead" is a delightful and hilarious independent film from Japan. Made for about $25,000, the film went on to make over $25 million globally. The highlight of the film is the 37 minute one-shot to open the movie and while the second act was a slog to get through, the final payoff is magical. The biggest surprise of this episode is Nate's M. Night Shyamalan twist at the end. One Cut of the Dead is a HUGE recommend from Pete but what do the guys think about it?

Join Nate and Charlie as they try to sneak a special interview episode past Pete this month. The guys are joined by Brandon Rhiness who wrote and directed the movie 'Grotesque' now available on Tubi (man we love Tubi). Brandon talks about how this movie came to be, some behind the scenes info, as well as his career up to this point. Both Charlie and Nate really enjoyed the movie and have a blast digging into the creation of the character Mildred and all of the chaos that ensues after her "surgery". Bonus: we find out some info on how movies get picked up for Tubi! There are some mild spoilers in this episode but we definitely recommend you go watch 'Grotesque' 2022 so you can enjoy the glee we all had talking about the surprisingly high body count!

From the director Neon Genesis Evangelion and Shin Godzilla, Hideaki Anno brings a classic anime to life with Cutie Honey. The argument during the show was if this is an action movie or not. Charlie makes a good argument that this is comedy adventure rather than action, but the kill count is just as high Missing in Action, if not more. With guns, sword fights and giant explosions how can this NOT be an action movie regardless of its absurdity. I had to pull in my Good Beer Bad Movie Night co-host Troy to help make my argument, but opinions couldn’t be more different and the episode benefits from the dissonance. No matter what side of the fence you’re on, this is a banger of an episode.

Greetings, listeners. Our Grand Evil Overlord and Nate (I need to come up with a cooler name for Nate than “Nate.” Boooring) foolishly turn the reigns of the podcast over to me 'Pete' for the month of February. To what nonsense will I subject their unprepared brains? To start off, I felt like I needed to class this joint up and introduce an award-winning Indie film from France called Raw. Arguably (and we did) more of a coming of age than horror, Raw is powerful, beautiful and horrifying. Despite it’s slow pace, Raw is a strong recommend if you’re looking for something different from the mainstream horror.

In a world where sequels run rampant, three knuckleheads couldn’t contain themselves to make a nice and casual anniversary episode. Why is it whenever there’s a mountain of bodies to count it’s always these three? Can they not go one anniversary episode without death and destruction in their wake? What the hell is even happening in Missing in Action?!!! Tune in for the explosive finale to our two year anniversary Q&A episode! Well...we've made it another year apparently, what started out as just a fun hobby has now turned into a labor of love. Alot has changed in two years but somehow we've managed to keep pushing forward and growing as a podcast and building a fantastic community around us. For Charlie's final birthday pick he stayed on the nostalgia path and picked a horror movie that he had a strong connection to....'Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight'. Growing up watching the TV series and Saturday morning cartoon as an early teen meant that when a full length feature film was announced that there was no way Charlie wasn't going to watch it. We also find out a shocking revelation from Nate concerning this movie as well! So hit that play button Boils and Ghouls to get transported back to when practical effects were king and Billy Zane was the smoothest, coolest horror movie villain of the 90s! Frights! Camera! Hacktion!!!!! HEHEHEHEHHAAAA!!!!!

It's that time of year again, Charlie's birthday has rolled back around and this year and he brought what is possibly the pinnacle of his childhood action movie favorites..... Masters of the Universe!!! While this podcast always has a foot in the nostalgia pool this episode the guys jump off the high dive into pure unadulterated wholesome nostalgia. Pete and Nate were definitely not surprised for the wave of love Charlie has for this live action adaptation of his hero He-Man. They were however caught a little off guard (as was Charlie) at how strong that wave actually is and how its still a cultural and personal icon for him. We even come up with our own He-man characters for each other and ourselves! So please take a trip to our past and enjoy as we cover Masters of the Universe.....Good Journey!!!!!

The gang is all here! For the first time ever the entire party was able to watch a movie together. A pact was made many months ago to cover Puppet Master 2 the next time we were altogether. Covid, random illnesses, and even Southwest wasn’t going to stop this from happening!.... Though some had succeeded in the past. It was bound to happen...this is it, our first Michael Bay movie. But dammit what better way to ring in the New Year than with Bad Boys 2 because it is a helluva ride. In fact we ride together.....we die together.... Bad Boys for life. Charlie and Nate wanted a fun sequel to continue their theme and thought what better one than the ultimate if not the best examples of a buddy cop actioner. So listen along as the guys strap in for an absolute wild ride with more car chases, explosions, bullets, and flat out hilarious dialogue than one movie has the right to have!! Nate wanted a doll for Christmas this year and Charlie and Pete pulled through for the little lad. Only problem was it was it has some defective hardware and went on a Homicidal rampage…again…Child’s Play is a franchise that is 7 movies and 2 seasons deep. It’s hard to believe Chucky has spawned so much over the years, but it’s the first sequel where he truly develops his personality and makes his mark on the horror world. Listen as the fellas talk about their fond memories of everyone’s favorite murderous doll!

It had to be done...after the Al Leong score Nate gave Die Hard 2 Charlie couldn't let that be our Christmas special legacy for the second year. Charlie had to do something drastic, something he never expected he'd have to do especially right before Christmas. What did he do you ask? Well...you'll have to listen to the episode to find out! What they didn't realize was that McClain's wife Holly just happens to be one of the passengers in danger and it's up to John to save the day...again...on Christmas! After an amazing start to November with our RoboCop episode we decided to keep the action train chugging strong with this week's selection....Universal Soldier! The movie our generations will always remember as one of the greatest crossover events in the action genre with Jean Claude Van Damme sharing the spotlight with Dolph Lundgren. But something else became apparent while recording this episode, Charlie and Nate inadvertently had what appears to be a theme for the past month or so. Starting with Sleepy Hollow, Underworld, Evil Dead 2, End of Days, Re-Animator, RoboCop, and now Universal Soldier...what do all of these movies have in common you ask (besides being badass)...well, they're all about resurrecting the previously deceased!!!!! Pack your Suntan lotion because we’re going on a road trip but we end up getting stranded in the desert this week. Nate clearly has been in a mood and decided to force Charlie to watch a movie he swore off years ago but in the spirit of solidarity begrudgingly agreed to cover. The Hills Have Eyes is a rare case where the remake is equal to it's original predecessor and had the blessings of Wes Craven to boot. But that was good news for Nate and his obsession with early 2000's Kate Beckinsale because there's many more opportunities to have her back on the show (Charlie even reminds Nate of one in particular).
