Ep 187The Evolved Father with Zach Bush MD
Zach Bush and I chat about his approach to treating disease, the identities and labels we manifest around health, surrendering human constructs, the importance of showing up big for our family, and so much more. Health is not complicated, it's not expensive, it's not something that comes from a bottle or a textbook. Health is intrinsic to life. As humans, we have gotten away from the truth. We have forgotten that we are inherently built for health and longevity. And today's guest, Zach Bush MD, is here to talk all about it. Zach is a triple board-certified physician applying the rigor of science, the strength of humanity, and the intelligence of nature to transform the world. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Priority of Family Heartbreak Recovery and Self Evaluation How Zach Evolved as a man and as a father What Biodiversity taught Zach about Life at Home What people need to surrender and what paradigm they need to shift QUOTE "If you see the beauty, then you will experience love." - Dr. Zach Bush "We have to surrender the human constructs to realize a deep powerful truth that we are alive." - Zach Bush, MD "Refuse to let the school systems or the social pressures keep your kids in the box. The limited contact with nature is destroying their immune system" PEOPLE MENTIONED Tim Urban Hal Elrod EPISODE RESOURCES ZachBushMD.com Follow on Twitter, Insta, Facebook ABOUT THE GUEST Zach Bush MD is a physician specializing in internal medicine, endocrinology and hospice care. He is an internationally recognized educator and thought leader on the microbiome as it relates to health, disease, and food systems. One of the few triple board-certified physicians in the country, with expertise in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Hospice/Palliative care. The breakthrough science that my colleagues and I have delivered offers profound new insights into human health and longevity. In 2012, I discovered a family of carbon-based redox molecules made by bacteria, and my team has subsequently demonstrated that this cellular communication network functions as an antidote to glyphosate, and many other dietary, chemical, and pharmaceutical toxins that disrupt our body's natural defense systems. This science has resulted in a revolutionary class of dietary supplements, including the product RESTORE. In February of 2019, I launched Farmer's Footprint, a docu-series presenting the social, economic, and educational incentives to encourage a mass exodus of farmers away from conventional chemical agriculture practices toward regenerative land management to restore human health, food and water security, and food independence. You can view it on vimeo here. My kids are the driving force behind my passion for change. I am fiercely motivated by a desire to have my children experience a much brighter and healthier future. My educational efforts provide a grassroots foundation from which we can launch change in our legislative decisions, ultimately up-shifting consumer behavior to bring about radical change in the mega industries of big farming, big pharma, and western medicine at large. Ep 1843 Things Every Dad Should Know with Hal Elrod
Today, I'm speaking with Hal Elrod about the 3 things every Dad should know. And within those big buckets, we hit on so many valuable sub topics, including marriage, affirmations, mindset, Father's Day, the weekly picture program, praising your spouse and kids, and so much more! In our conversation, you'll learn how to reprioritize your life so you can thrive in your most important roles: Human, Entrepreneur, Husband, and Father KEY TAKEAWAYS: Being VS Doing Redefining your routines The blueprint for creating your ideal life Looking at Father's Day differently Ways to praise - both your spouse and kids! Unconditional commitment for your spouse Scheduling morning time About Hal Elrod Hal Elrod is on a mission to Elevate the Consciousness of Humanity, One Morning at a Time. As the author of one of the highest rated books in the world, "The Miracle Morning" (which has been translated into 27 languages, has over 2,200 five-star reviews and is practiced daily by over 500,000 people in more than 70 countries)… he is doing exactly that. What's incredible is that Hal literally died at age 20. His car was hit head-on by a drunk driver at 70 miles per hour, his heart stopped beating for 6 minutes, he broke 11 bones and woke up after being in a coma for 6 days to be told by his doctors that he would probably never walk again. Not only did Hal walk, he ran a 52-mile ultra-marathon and went on to became a hall of fame business achiever, international keynote speaker, author, and grateful husband & father-all before he turned 30. Then, in November of 2016, Hal nearly died again – his kidneys, lungs, and heart were failing, and he was diagnosed with a rare, and very aggressive form of leukemia. After enduring the most difficult year of his life, battling cancer, Hal is now cancer-free and furthering his mission as the founder of The Miracle Morning book series, host of the "Achieve Your Goals" podcast, creator of the Best Year Ever [Blueprint] LIVE event, and Executive Producer of The Miracle Morning MOVIE – a documentary that reveals the morning rituals of some of the world's most successful people. Hal is grateful to be alive and living his mission alongside his wife and their two young children in Austin, TX. It takes the combo of a life threatening situation with love and safety When someone is facing a challenge they get tunnel vision and freak out and resilient goes out the window but if you can provide safety through love they stay soft and open and build that capacity.

Ep 157A Dad's Impact on Early Childhood Development with Celeste Meyburgh

During the early morning hours, she is plotting world peace, with her ever-growing army of actively involved Dads. She aims to inspire Dads with insight to become Dads of impact all over the world. Because our children deserve to grow up with the best version of their Dads so they can become the best version of themselves for the generations to come. QUOTE "Take a step back and focus on the family. Success is inevitable but it won't mean anything, if you lose connection with your children" - Celesté Meyburgh "Embracing your child or your spouse when you come home is so important because it resets something in your inside" - Celesté Meyburgh "We don't know what lies ahead for our children but a child who has the ability to think critically, and problem solve and identify ways in which he can make the world a better place, that child will be okay" - Celesté Meyburgh "A child who is able to recognize and manage their emotions and collaborate with others, those are the kids that will do well in the future. Patrick also serves on the board of 1Life Fully Lived, a non-profit geared towards helping young people find their passion through the entrepreneurial spirit and to dream, plan and live their best lives. Sam also serves as the President of a women's mastermind, Symmetry7. Sam and Patrick have been married for over twenty years and they would tell you they are one of the happiest couples they know. But they weren't always this happy. In fact, after ten years of marriage, they were ready to sign the divorce papers. During the first ten years of their marriage, they struggled through like most people do: trying to navigate life together without any real tools, realizing they were in many ways opposites, fighting often, having sex less and less, distrust and jealousy rearing their ugly heads, and what they believed was falling out of love. They were under tremendous pressure, as many families are these days, raising their two children and each of them pursuing their rigorous careers. In their tenth year of marriage, they decided to call it quits and filed for divorce. After a year apart, against all odds, they decided to get back together. This time they came with new insights including recognition of the things each of them brought to the relationship – good and bad. Both made the necessary changes to successfully start their next chapter. For the last ten years they've grown their love, their bond, and created an amazing life together. They became students of love and they never looked back. Ep 150Community is Our Greatest Survival Tool
Calm & Prepared There is an order to the life priorities we carry as survivalists, and they apply whether or not we are in a "survival situation" or not. I think sharing this information with everyone can help organize thoughts and priorities for people in a way that makes them less stressful to think through. It is important that we solve problems related to these issues in this order. Circumstances don't change these priorities, although in certain situations some of them may not be fully available to achieve. Let's go down the list and see what needs to be done to check these boxes. *Trigger Warning* The purpose of sharing this information is to aid people in organizing their thoughts and to stay calm, not to be alarmist or sensational. Mike and I were educated as survivalists so much of this information is framed around not dying. Please do not take that as a sign that Mike or I are under the impression that civilization is about to collapse. We both believe strongly that that is not the case, and that sharing information like this can serve to provide confidence to our community. Remember that community is our greatest survival tool, if we take care of eachother during difficult times, we will all be fine.

Ep 144The Messed Up Relationship between Boys and Their Feelings with Dr. Kelly Flanagan
It's below zero in Chicago, and none of the boys are wearing coats. I'm driving the middle school carpool—two boys, two girls. The girls are each dressed in heavy winter coats, thick gloves, and knitted stocking caps. Both boys are wearing hoodies, with no outerwear. They're not abnormal amongst their peers. When we arrive at the school, almost every other boy will be dressed the same way. So, I ask them, "Why are the girls wearing coats, but you're not?" One of them responds with an answer that makes no sense. "It's not that cold out today." I decide to teach a little science. "The temperature is a constant in this experiment," I say, "you and the girls are feeling the same temperatures. Yet they are wearing coats, and you're not. So, what variable does explain why you aren't wearing coats?" There's a long pause. Then one of them says something that makes even less sense. "Because the lockers are small and it's hard to get coats into them?" There's a question mark at the end of his statement, as if he knows he's making it up. "Oh," I say in mock surprise, "the girls have larger lockers than the boys?" They are half-smiling and half-cringing now. My son Quinn makes the decision to get this thing over with as quickly possible, by telling the truth. "Dad, boys aren't supposed to admit they feel cold." For a middle school boy in the year 2020, it's okay to feel cold so long as you don't admit it. We've made great progress with our younger boys. We are increasingly aware that little boys have feelings and need to be able to express them just like girls. So, these days, most little boys are allowed to cry when wounded and to be scared when threatened. We give them that. However, by the time they reach middle school, they are apparently still expected to bury their most vulnerable emotions. Its okay to feel angry and aggressive, or tough and competitive, but it's not okay to feel weak or wounded. So, boys start cutting themselves off from much of their emotional data. They do what they have to do to not feel it, from drinking to drugging to gaming. To freezing. However, a winter coat is a public confession of vulnerability they are still not allowed to make. Is it any wonder boys are struggling so much right now? Their numbers are dwindling on college campuses. They are less and less inclined to get into long-term romantic relationships. They are exponentially more likely to fail to launch from their parents' homes. They are struggling to find vocations, but they report being happy anyway, as long as they have a screen in front of them. They are more anxious and depressed than ever, but they have trouble admitting it, until they are in such despair they can't hide it anymore. Like frostbite of the heart. As we approach the school, I tell the boys about a conversation I had with a man at a retreat I led a couple of years ago. We were talking about how, when he was growing up, you were only considered to be a "real" man if you weren't afraid of anything around you. In other words, you were only a real man if you didn't feel the cold. I told the boys in my carpool that I have a different definition of what it means to be a real man. A real man isn't afraid of anything within him. A real man can have the whole human experience going on within him. He can feel shame and sorrow and fear and anxiety. He can feel hurt. He can feel rejected. He can feel lonely. He can feel doubt and uncertainty and confusion. He can feel tender. He can feel love and gratitude and joy and grace. He can feel ordinary and lost and hopeful and hopeless. A real man can feel cold. He can feel it all. The whole human thing. A real man can feel all of that and not be afraid of it, which is to say, instead of resisting it or hiding it or running away from it, he can approach it and name it and show it. He can advertise it, whether by wearing his heart on his sleeve, or a coat on his back. The relationship between boys and their feelings has been messed up for too long. We're doing better with our younger boys. We must do better with our adolescent boys. The outerwear industry is depending upon us.
