Ep 393393: The World's First Teen Innovation Accelerator with Navid Nathoo and Viola Seda

Ep 389389: How Family Board Meetings Can Level Up Your Family Life with Jim Sheils
Eighteen summers. That's about all the time we have to really connect with our children before they step into the next phase of their life. And if we're not careful, we can easily lose track of how quickly those summers slip away. That's why I'm absolutely thrilled to share this conversation with Jim Sheils. Jim is the co-founder of Board Meetings International, a company that specializes in parent/child retreats for entrepreneurs and their children. He's also a partner in the largest build-to-rent organization in the United States, with over a whopping $600 million in assets under management that pulls in over $40 million annually for investors. Jim's work has been celebrated in the Front Row Dads community for years, and for good reason. Known as the "Crazy Glue" for entrepreneur families, Jim felt compelled to address one of the most tragic issues of modern life - the disconnect between hard-working entrepreneurs and their families. He developed the legendary "Family Board Meeting" process that has helped thousands of business owners strengthen their bond with their families. And I'll just say that my son Ocean loves it! We all do. He keeps the countdown chart ready for our next board meeting! He's also the author of The Family Board Meeting, which I highly recommend you check out. In fact, we have a real treat for you today, gentlemen. One last thing! If you've already read the book and you'd like a new copy, show Jim some love, write a review, and email a screenshot to us [email protected] with your address, and we'll mail you a copy. And if you're new to the podcast or our community, write a review of this episode, send a screenshot to the same address, and if you're among the first five people to do it, we'd be happy to send you a free copy as well. (US Residents Only) In our conversation, you'll learn: The key ingredients for making the Board Meeting work like a charm in your family. Three steps for building trust in your family that'll last forever. How to crush the walls and barriers that are between you and your children. Some of my favorite moments of the conversation: Quality time is the best gift we can give our loved ones. Rules for getting the whole family involved in your "Board Meeting." How steering clear of toxic people improves your relationships. What doesn't get scheduled doesn't get done. Why Jim's bond with his wife gets better with time. Ego is the biggest roadblock to personal growth and intimacy. Guiding your kids to figure out life on their own. Get rid of your need for perfection; it'll make life more fulfilling. Ep 388388: The Art of Surrendering and Breaking Free of Our Self-Delusions with Brent Perkins
Anyone who has been in a loving marriage will tell you that there are peaks and valleys along the way. So what happens when things aren't going so well? For some, playing the blame game and pretending you're the victim is the natural response. But as today's guest will tell you, when you fully surrender and ask yourself some tough questions about your role in the relationship, a pathway to move forward in the midst of a dark time can be found. After enjoying tremendous success for over 20 years as a serial entrepreneur, Brent Perkins' life shifted in 2021 with a difficult divorce. This led him on a journey of personal growth and a book called Papercuts: The Art of Self-Delusion. Brent is a Dad to two amazing daughters and has already made a huge impact in our FRD Brotherhood. His contributions have led to a significant increase in participation in our Bands which has been awesome to watch. So, today we're talking about what it really means to surrender, the role that blissful ignorance plays in our relationships and how the truths that we believe can become illusions. And if we can embrace the art of self-delusion in a positive way, we can flip the narrative and move forward in a happier and healthier way. In our conversation, you'll learn: Strategies for modeling, trust, vulnerability, and awareness in our kids. The difference between surrendering and victimhood. How to recognize, unpack, and shatter our self-delusions. Some of my favorite moments of the conversation: Surrendering to the good and bad in life without playing the victim game. Pitfalls to our pursuit of personal growth. Moments that build anxiety and fear in ourselves. Guiding our kids to vulnerability and earning their trust. Want to help others? Help yourself first. Being grateful for the moments when we were jerks. The power of creating space to be vulnerable with other men. How we unintentionally harm those that try to support us. Ep 387387: Everything is Possible with Family By Your Side with Travis Macy and Mark "Mace" Macy
Gentlemen, we are privileged to have not one but TWO incredible human beings with us today. My guests are an inspirational father-son duo, Travis Macy, and his father, Mark "Mace" Macy. For those that don't know, Travis and Mark are legendary endurance athletes. Travis has finished more than 130 ultra-endurance events in 17 countries. And his Dad, Mace, spent thirty years competing in Colorado and around the world in ultra-endurance competitions and is one of the few who have finished all eight Eco-Challenge events. Their secret? The Ultra Mindset - a relentless determination that refuses to bow to any obstacle. When Mark was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Travis and his Dad decided to take on the challenge of Eco-Challenge Fiji together - a grueling seven-day, 400-mile marathon of trekking, climbing, biking, and paddling through the jungle - for one final race together, to prove that anything is possible with family by your side. In their new book, A Mile at a Time, Travis and Mace weave together excerpts from Mace's passionate personal journals alongside a first-person narrative by Travis, telling the story of their incredible journey and what they learned along the way. Their story is one of courage, determination, and above all, love. It's a reminder that in the face of adversity, the ties that bind us give us strength and much more. In our conversation, you'll learn: Strategies for fostering resilience and mental fortitude. How to cultivate a sense of unity and teamwork within your family. How the "Ultra Mindset" can help as you juggle between training, family, and mental health. Some of my favorite moments of the conversation: The deep bond between Travis and Mark and their shared love for endurance racing. Choosing love, happiness, and hope. How to fight for your family's future and enjoy quality time in the present. The benefits of exercise and being in nature has on your mental health. Embracing adversity as a catalyst to greater resilience and self-assuredness. Mace's mantra, "It's all good training." Insights for those dealing with Alzheimer's. The comfort of having someone besides you who'll always have your back. Ep 386386: Our Children's Mental Health and Jason Reid's Mission to End Teen Suicide
I think we can all agree that when we were kids, things were much different than they are today. Most of us probably spent our days racing our bikes, building forts, and chasing frogs around the pond. The fact is, our kids are growing up in the middle of a raging mental health crisis. It's no wonder why anxiety and depression are on the rise among teenagers with all the pressure to succeed or be popular with unrealistic expectations fueled by social media, or worse, by their parents. I'm thrilled to have Jason Reid with me today for another conversation on this important topic. Jason is a partner at CEO Coaching International, where he coaches top executives on achieving success. Tragically, after losing his 14-year-old son to suicide in 2018, Jason's focus shifted to helping other families navigate the complex world of mental health. He founded TellMyStory.org, a nonprofit organization that educates and empowers parents to support their children through mental health challenges. Jason's mission is nothing short of inspiring - to end teen suicide by 2030. In our conversation, you'll learn: The telltale signs that your child is grappling with depression and anxiety. Parenting strategies for helping kids deal with their mental health struggles. Why institutions are dropping the ball when it comes to tackling the mental health crisis. Some of my favorite moments of the conversation: How the media is exacerbating our kids' insecurities. The tragedy that transformed Jason into a leading mental health advocate. Empowering our kids to become "mental health athletes." What kids wish their parents knew about their struggles. The dangers of employing authoritarian tactics on your kids. How to talk to your children so they feel understood and safe to be vulnerable. How to tell if your child is going through a mental health crisis - and what to do about it. I'm married to my beautiful wife, Lauren. We have one daughter, Annabelle, who is about a year and a half old and goes by "la princessa" at daycare. She's already working her cuteness on people. I've spent 15+ years in the energy software space, mainly around energy trading and risk management applications. From managing sales teams, to global project implementation teams, and customer success organizations I've been on the people facing side my entire career. One of my passions is finding that right combination of people and technology and seeing how it can change people's perspectives, engagement, and even lives. The power of an engaged and enabled team is something I am constantly in awe of. My wife and I have always been working on side projects.. We recently sold our home services business this last summer and are now going head first into real estate. Specifically, storage facilities under the guidance of Mike Wagner, another FRD legend. If that wasn't enough, we are in the middle of selling our home in Houston and heading into an RV while we look for a house or property on the Dripping Springs side of Austin. Wish us luck! Ep 383383: Fatherhood with a Twist: Thriving as a Dad, Stepfather and Business Partner with Joseph Davis Bliss and Alana Bliss
All right, fellas. Today's episode is a special one with a bit of a twist. First, I'm joined by an amazing husband and his loving wife, who just happen to have a pretty crazy love story. You will literally hear the love and respect they have for each other. Not just as business partners but how they are thriving as a blended family and how they handled the co-parenting situation early on, which most step-parents will tell you can be very tricky. For context: When Joseph came into the picture, Alana was already married with 3 kids, and they all worked together (including Alana's now ex-husband) in Costa Rica. I won't spoil the rest. You'll have to hear it for yourself. Here are a few things you need to know about them. Joseph Davis Bliss is the Founder of Dads Here Now, where he offers coaching and mentorship to like-minded dads who want to show up as their best selves for their families. This is very much in line with what we're doing here at Front Row Dads. Alana Bliss has been a certified Permaculture designer and teacher for nearly 20 years. Together, they are creating an eco-village and community designed around sustainable multifamily neighborhoods which is pretty awesome. I'll simply tee up the episode by saying: How they handled the beginning stages of their relationship is really beautiful. And what they're doing together as eco-friendly business partners is equally amazing. And when you hear Joseph talk about not being able to tell her kids "Because I said so" and how he's earned their respect, it's pretty incredible. In our conversation, you'll learn: The incredible story of how they met in Costa Rica and how Joseph became a stepfather and role model to Alana's kids. The importance of showing your kids what a present and loving relationship looks like. How to disarm personal conflicts in a loving and supportive manner. How Joseph earned the respect of Alana's kids as a new parent and stepfather. Some of my favorite moments of the conversation: How they met in Costa Rica Resolving conflict with love, respect and communication What allows an eco-village to thrive Embracing the flaws of our loved ones. Success in business is meaningless if it comes at the cost of our family's well-being. Why fathers should stop saying "because I said so." Establishing boundaries and earning respect as a stepfather. Some of my favorite moments of the conversation: The more you compromise with your ex-spouse, the better it is for you and your kids. Taking care of your children's emotional needs during and after the divorce. How to tell if your marriage is beyond saving or just needs rekindling. The often neglected strategy that saves 18% of marriages. Anger and resentment drag you behind. Forgiveness paves the way for a brighter future. Ep 378378: Shattering the Mask of Masculinity with Connor Beaton
When society tells men to "man up" and "suck it up," their immediate response is often to bury their true emotions, only to fall into the trap of self-sabotage, anxiety, and depression. But there is strength in vulnerability, and it takes a courageous heart to explore those insecurities and share them with the world. It's my pleasure to share this conversation with Connor Beaton, the visionary behind ManTalks, an international organization focused on men's wellness, success, and fulfillment. As an author and speaker who has shared the stage with Lewis Howes and Gary Vaynerchuk, Connor's unique insights cut through the noise of traditional masculinity, offering men worldwide a guiding light toward a more fulfilling life. Connor inspires men to confront their weaknesses and embrace their emotions, shattering the ego-driven image of a "real man." In our conversation, you'll learn: How to gain better control of your fears, anger, and self-doubts. How to regulate your mind and body under stress and conflict. Why young men need masculine role models more than ever. Some of my favorite moments of the conversation: Using your "dark side" as a beacon for finding meaning in life. How the lack of fatherly masculine energy destroys young men. Running away from fear and anger robs our loved ones of our masculine presence. Facing insecurities instead of numbing them down with shallow distractions. Why the best relationships help you grow through pain and trauma. Do this the next time you feel the need to lash out! Ep 371371: Dan Martell on Buying Back Your Time
What's up fellas? I can't even tell you how pumped I am to share this conversation with you. Today's guest is a legit badass businessman, Dan Martell. We talked about his new book and how entrepreneurs can buy back their time, meaningful ways to talk to your kids to praise them for their effort, tell them what you love about them and eliminate entitlement and much more. For those that don't know, Dan is a serial entrepreneur, husband, father of two incredible boys, ironman athlete, best-selling author, and coach to over 1000+ SaaS founders, including clients like ClickFunnels, Proposify, and Carrot. He successfully exited 3 tech companies within 10 years. His new book, Buy Back Your Time, might be the most important book ever written for entrepreneurs, and especially our community at Front Row Dads. If that sounds like hyperbole, I'm not even joking. It's that good. So let's get right to it! Here are my favorite moments: The Buyback Principle: You don't hire people to grow your business. You hire people to buy back your time. It's better if you allow things to happen with your kids. Let them figure things out, make mistakes and help them to fix them. Don't treat them like babies forever. The great things that happen when we talk to our kids about real stuff instead of just asking about how their day was. Ep 370370: Gino Wickman on The Ten Disciplines to Manage and Maximize Energy
When we watch someone have incredible success, it's easy to think that that person has life figured out. But as Gino Wickman will tell you, even top achievers carry a ton of baggage and trauma from their past that affects their personal and professional relationships. We often think we can't succeed without using those traumas as fuel to crush it at work. But until we realize we can remove them and still be successful, fear and ego will keep running the show. Gino learned this the hard way. He saw many high achievers triple the zeroes on their bank accounts but remained miserable. He didn't want to follow that path, so he worked through his inner demons and came out on the other side as a transformed man. Today, Gino is the founder of EOS Worldwide and is responsible for creating the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) that helps companies achieve greatness. He's also an award-winning author, including the best-seller, Traction, which has sold over 1 million copies and five other books in the Traction Library that have sold almost 2 million copies. We absolutely love using the EOS system here at Front Row Dads, and there are 130,000 other companies using the EOS tools worldwide that feel the same way. In our conversation, we discuss what he's learned throughout his 30+ years as an entrepreneur and helping thousands of companies thrive. We dig into his ten principles for maximizing your energy and his strategies and routines for success in business while being at peace and constantly evolving as a husband, father, and entrepreneur. Gino Wickman Podcast Highlights How to channel your drive and energy to find peace and fulfillment. Doing the (often grueling) inner work is a lifelong journey. The ten disciplines that give Gino boundless energy. Having people around you that will keep you in check is a game changer. Be careful who you surround yourself with. It's hard to be arrogant when you're humble and grateful. Taking time off work is not slacking if you use that time to learn how to always show up at your best for your family. If you say yes to everything, you're really saying no to everything. Learn how to say NO better without feeling guilty! Why self-awareness allows you to make decisions in life out of love, not fear and ego. Stop trying to fix the other person in the relationship and start taking ownership of how you show up for that person. Ep 369369: The Fun Habit, Magical Moments and the Disciplined Pursuit of Joy with Mike Rucker, Ph.D.
For any family man and entrepreneur, there are many things (and people) that are asking for your time and attention. But if we get lost in our to-do list, we'll miss out on those magical moments with our kids and spouse that deepen our connection with them. Taking a few minutes each day to pause and connect with our family can help us to remember why we are working so hard in the first place. It's scary to think about letting go of the steering wheel for a bit. But, fellas, there's no way around the fact that we'll spend our entire lives looking back and wondering where the time went if we don't make time for enjoyment and fun intentionally. And I'm excited to share this conversation with Mike Rucker. Mike is a behavioral scientist with a PhD in organizational psychology and a peer-reviewed author who has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and Forbes. In his new book, The Fun Habit, Mike distills decades of life experience and academic research into a practical roadmap for bringing more fun into your life. One thing I took away from our epic conversation is that, as high achievers, we need to stop trying to "hack" our way to happiness and start doing more things that make us happy. Today, we discuss how play improves our relationships and how we sabotage our happiness and feel powerless to change that. We also dig into Mike's tried and tested strategies for finding adult ways to be playful so that you can be happier and a more mindful parent and husband. Mike Rucker Podcast Highlights The importance of play - with your spouse, kids, friends and other loved ones. Happiness is not a sprint. It's a lifetime journey. Becoming aware of how you spend your time is the first step toward a joyful life. Experiences will always make you happier than material possessions. The importance of working through trauma to make way for joy. How to push back against the systems that destroy our attention and mindfulness. The "24/7 hustle and grind" mindset will make you richer while making you miserable. Don't just tell your kids what to do. Lead through your actions. Ep 368368: Choose Her Everyday (or Leave her), How Men are Setup to Fail in Relationships and the Masculine Objection with Bryan Reeves
The truth is, if we're crushing it at work but not doing the same at home with our spouse/partner, eventually, it'll catch up with you, and everything (and everyone) suffers the consequences. Men have been taught that showing vulnerability in relationships is a sign of weakness. So we build walls to shield ourselves from the hurt and pain that can come with opening up to our partner. And when those walls come crashing down, we're often confused about how to handle the situation. On the flip side, men who acknowledge their vulnerability can foster a deep sense of connection and intimacy with their spouse. That's why I'm pumped to have Bryan Reeves on the show today. Bryan is an author and relationship coach who helps men, women, and couples create thriving lives and intimate relationships. His Men, This Way blog has been read by over 30 million people worldwide, and his work has been featured in The Good Men Project, Buzzfeed, Allure, Medium, Playboy, and others. In this conversation, we dig into Bryan's tools for communicating clearly and with love and respect for your partner and the importance of establishing boundaries as early as possible. Bryan also shares three principles for showing up at your best in your relationship and the transformational power of intentionally choosing your partner every day instead of leaving your relationship on auto-pilot. Bryan Reeves Podcast Highlights You miss countless opportunities for an intimate connection with your partner every day. How people are afraid to set boundaries in their relationship and how to overcome this challenge. How to reconcile the different masculine and feminine core values. Daily connection practices of thriving couples. Ego doesn't belong in a relationship. It's better to be kind than to be right. How to ask what we want without blaming the other person. The difference between being empathetic to her needs and doing what she wants you to do. Learning to speak each other's love languages brings out the best in the relationship. The best relationships aren't born. They're cultivated for years. Get the Full Show Notes Want access to the full show notes, including links to all resources mentioned during today's conversation? Ep 367367: How to Write a Book and Leave a Legacy for Generational Impact with Chandler Bolt
Have you ever thought about writing a book? I believe every dad should at least consider putting their knowledge, stories, and strategies on paper. YOU have wisdom, and yes…you should model that for your family and business, AND consider the impact you'd have if you put all this on paper, in an organized way, that could live on forever. In 2017, I self-published The Front Row Factor for several reasons. First, I wanted to document some of the most important life lessons for my kids. For my business, I wanted to scale impact. For our charity Front Row Foundation, I wanted to help more people. In the FRD community, we have guys like Hal Elrod, Author of The Miracle Morning, Justin Donald Author of The Lifestyle Investor, Ned Schaut Author of The Adventure of Fatherhood – and we have dozens of other examples. I'm blown away by some of our members who've written books that are changing the world while creating a legacy for their kids. My interview today is with Chandler Bolt. He is the founder and CEO of Self-Publishing School, which has helped over 7000 authors write and publish their books. He was named to Forbes' 30 under 30 list, and Self-Publishing School got into the INC 5000 four years in a row. We discuss why you should start writing a book and why you don't need to be a great writer to be a published author. One last thing. If you go to Publishedbook.com/FrontRowDads, you can get a FREE printed copy of Published, Chandler's latest book. (Printed copy for US residents only, digital copies are available for non-US residents) Chandler Bolt Podcast Highlights Why you should encourage your kids to experiment and figure out life on their own. Why Chandler and his brother chose to write a book as a legacy for their parents. What we can learn from our failures and what others can learn by sharing those lessons. How do you keep your kids grounded when you're super successful? Whatever you do in life, give it your all. Why books are an incredible legacy for our children. Chandler explains how you can write a book by simply devoting 30 minutes a day. Your kids are always watching you so lead by example. Your confidence and self-worth shouldn't be tied to how your business is doing. Ep 366366: A New Masculine Paradigm for Leading with Love, Living Your Truth & Healing the World with John Wineland
"The great plague of the modern man is numbness." - John Wineland It's natural for men to be in tune with their masculine energy because we're wired to win and to provide for our family. But if we're not integrating our feminine energy, we're not healing our mind, body, or heart. Lots of people have something that they struggle with. Whether it's insecurities, anxiety, a fear of failure, or all of the things. And if we're numbing and distracting ourselves, we're not healing or improving. So let's talk about true masculine energy, living your truth, and not just healing ourselves but everyone in our orbit and beyond. And I'm thrilled to be joined by someone with over 30 years of experience to share some of their knowledge with us today. John Wineland is a speaker and teacher who leads men and women in the practices of embodied masculine leadership, spiritual intimacy, and sexual polarity. In his new book, From The Core, he shares a practical guide to redefine, heal and re-embrace masculinity in our world. In this conversation, we discuss how spending time in solitude can improve your relationships, the importance of being vulnerable with other men, and why true masculinity embraces the feminine instead of rejecting it. John also shares how he coped with the devastating loss of his daughter Claire and how he honors her legacy years after her passing. He encourages us to lean into our emotions, break through the false stories we tell ourselves, and open ourselves up to authentic connections with others. Lastly, don't forget that our Front Row Dads Wealth and Legacy Online Summit is coming up in January 2023. Save your spot right now by visiting FrontRowDads.com/Summit. John Wineland Podcast Highlights How being aware of the body's sensations can quiet our monkey minds. Your masculine presence is the greatest gift you can give to those around you. Instead of running away from difficult emotions, bring your full awareness to them. It'll change how you experience those emotions. How to reverse social media's damage on our minds and attention. Consciously allowing yourself to relax instead of distracting yourself mindlessly. Life is a practice of failure and recommitment. Find your tribe of men before whom you won't be afraid to share your deepest weakness and insecurities. Being a fully embodied man is a lifetime commitment. You'll fail along the road, and that's OK. Ep 365365: Raising Entrepreneurial Daughters and Being a Magic Mom with Alyce, Seth and Karissa Dailey
Gentlemen, we're changing things up a bit on the podcast today and having a little bit of, shall we say… family fun. Today's guests are Alyce Dailey, her husband and fellow FRD brother Seth Dailey and their daughter Karissa. We probably could have had all four of their girls for this chat if they weren't in school… or in Nepal with my son Tiger bungee jumping off a 500-foot bridge! It's still crazy to think about it. In fact, when Tatyana and I realized that their daughter, Laura, was also going on this youth trip to Nepal, we both breathed a sigh of relief because that's how awesome these kids are. But that's a story for another time. Today, we're talking about entrepreneurs who are raising entrepreneurial daughters. As I mentioned, Alyce and Seth Dailey have four wonderful girls, and I'm thrilled that Karissa could join us for this chat to share her perspective on what it's been like growing up in the Dailey household with highly motivated and successful parents. We also talked about Alyce's new book called, The Magic Mom: 5 Principles to Unlock Your Natural Gifts to Raise Entrepreneurial Daughters. While it might seem like it's geared toward Moms, there really is something in it for everyone, especially entrepreneurs. And while there have been successes, like most families, there have been challenges too. You'll hear Karissa talk about what it was like when things weren't going very well and how her parents were transparent with their kids about it. Alyce opens up to talk about feeling burnt out from building a business, not being happy to go home at the end of the day, and how self-care was the spark that helped her break out of that period and ultimately led her to write the book. We'll also talk about how they taught their kids to interact with adults, which set the stage for their entrepreneurial mindset. Enjoy! Alyce & Seth Dailey Podcast Highlights Introduction to the Dailey family. Alyce and Seth's incredible love story about how they met. The spark that led Alyce to write The MAGIC Mom. The 5 principles for being a MAGIC Mom which applies to any parent. Some of the Dailey family's core values: Connection and making people feel like family. If Mom's aren't living a full life, it can actually be a burden on your kids. Teaching your kids how to interact with adults. Being transparent with your kids when dealing with challenges. Similarities between entrepreneurship and parenthood. Get the Full Show Notes Want access to the full show notes, including links to all resources mentioned during today's conversation? Ep 364364: Smart, Not Spoiled, Beyond the Money with Chad Willardson
As family men with thriving businesses, we're used to providing our kids with a rich and enjoyable life. Even though I want my kids to have an awesome life, I don't want them to get too comfortable and get everything they want without earning it. So how do we provide a good life for our kids while teaching them the values and principles to be financially and emotionally independent adults who crush it in life? Allow me to introduce you to today's guest, Chad Willardson. Chad is a husband and father of five kids and the Founder and President of Pacific Capital. He's also the best-selling author of Stress-Free Money. He is one of the top wealth management experts in the country who helps 8 and 9-figure entrepreneurs remove their stress about money, increase their cash flow and free up a ton of their time. As a father of five, Chad's also passionate about showing parents how to teach financial principles to kids. In our conversation, we dig into why it's important to allow your children to experiment and learn from failures and how to challenge them without pushing too hard. Chad also shares an epic story about how he created a babysitting guide for hiring and paying babysitters that he's had tremendous success with that you won't want to miss. We also talked about how achieving financial and lifestyle freedom is not mutually exclusive and the difference between being rich and wealthy. We also discuss the importance of being intentional with your spouse and why ego won't get you anywhere in relationships or business. One last thing! If you leave an honest review of this episode, mention Chad, screenshot it and send it to [email protected] with your mailing address, and I will buy a copy of one of Chad's books. You pick the book, and I'll ship it to you. (US residents only). Last but not least, our Front Row Dads Wealth and Legacy Online Summit is coming up in January 2023. Save your spot right by visiting FrontRowDads.com/Summit. Chad Willardson Podcast Highlights How he started Pacific Capital after the 2008 crisis and grew it into a behemoth that manages over $1 BILLION in investments! Why people constantly seek his advice on babysitting. What inspired him to write his bestseller Smart, Not Spoiled. The importance of teaching kindness, discipline, and effort to your kids and how Chad taught his kids to be self-reliant. (Fun Fact: Four of Chad's kids have their own businesses!) Why high achievers are intentional in spending quality time with family. Losing your temper never leads to a solution. Two things that have immensely helped Chad in life: saying no and surrounding himself with A players. Ep 363363: Your Best Year Ever By Becoming Your Best Version Ever, Writing Books & Sustainable Change with Josh Painter
One of the reasons that I started Front Row Dads is that I knew I needed to grow and evolve if I wanted to become the best version of myself. Getting out of our comfort zones can be scary because it feels safer to stay where we are. But in reality, we're robbing ourselves of a life of abundance in every way. Ultimately, we're responsible for how we show up in life. If we allow ourselves to live on autopilot, there is no growth and we'll fall short of being the best version of ourselves. Which is a great segue to introduce today's guest. Josh Painter is a father, husband, coach, philanthropist and author of the new book, Best Version Ever. He also has no problems admitting that he felt trapped in a life others expected him to live. Ultimately, he transformed his life when he saw that he could rewrite the stories he told himself. In our conversation, we go over the importance of scheduling time with your family and guarding that time at all costs, how mindset shapes our life outcomes, and why helping others is more fulfilling than being financially successful. We also dig into Josh's thoughts on raising kids who are not afraid to be vulnerable, his three principles for parenting and much more. Josh Painter Podcast Highlights It's easy to get caught up in work so much that you neglect your family. Be intentional about spending time with your kids and spouse. You get to decide which version of you it's best. The time we have with our family is finite. Instead of worrying about other people's thoughts, focus on treating those around you with love and care. Find success and find your purpose, then go and help others do the same. The importance of mentors and how they can show other people what they're capable of. You don't have to be a perfect parent. How Josh went from being extremely introverted to seeing the value of connecting with others. The lucky circumstances that made it possible for Jon and Josh to connect with each other during a Hal Elrod event. Ep 362362: Getting The Help You Need, Building Brotherhood & FRD "Bands" with Alex, Nadir, Ben & Brian
Gentlemen, we are LESS THAN TWO weeks away from the inaugural FRD Live Event. It's literally almost here and I'm as excited as a kid the week before Christmas. As we approach Thanksgiving, I couldn't be more thankful and grateful for this community. And today's episode features 4 members of the FRD brotherhood who will be at the event next month. I thought it would be cool to have a chat with a full "band" and have them share their thoughts about what being in an FRD band has meant to them. Allow me to introduce you to Alex, Nadir, Ben, and Brian. They've witnessed the power of being part of a "band of brothers" that inspires and motivates them to be better husbands and dads and follow through on their goals. But they also hold each other accountable and aren't afraid to dish out constructive criticism. They celebrate each other's wins and learn from each other's failures. In this conversation, we're digging into the benefits of setting goals with men, being accountable to each other, and why it's crucial to have difficult conversations and be vulnerable with people you can trust. We also discuss why four is the perfect number for a band, how everyone brings something different to the table, how to start your own "band of brothers," and much more. If you want to be part of a community of men that has the power to create positive ripple effects throughout the entire world, then don't miss our Front Row Dads Live Summit. We're bringing 100+ men together to increase awareness, build brotherhood and ignite action to be better fathers and husbands and I hope you'll join us on December 2-4 in Austin, Texas! There are still a few spots left, if you're interested, sign up at FrontRowDads.com/Live to book yours today! Alex, Nadir, Ben & Brian Podcast Highlights How to build a community where men aren't afraid to be vulnerable and share their insecurities. You can spend days and weeks reading about being a better dad and husband, but nothing beats getting in a room with other men who will challenge and encourage you to grow. Success and growth are directly proportional to the number of unsettling conversations you're willing to have. Why FRD "bands" work, and how they change men's lives for the better. The importance of being intentional with creating a brotherhood because it won't happen spontaneously. To be a great leader, you also need to be a great follower. How being part of a brotherhood can help you model a life of abundance, creativity, and fulfillment for your kids. How getting together with other men can completely transform your relationship with your kids and spouse. Ep 360360: Bonus Episode: Being the Dad Your Kids Deserve with Hal Elrod and Justin Donald
bonusThe future of humanity depends on men showing up for their families. I realize that's a big statement, but I genuinely believe that as leaders in our spaces, we have a responsibility to ourselves, our families, our community, and the world. And when hundreds of men pour into their spouses and kids, there's a ripple effect that can transform lives in our orbit, and beyond. As many of you know, The Front Row Dads Live Summit is bringing 100+ men together from around the world to increase awareness, build brotherhood and ignite action to be better fathers and husbands. I hope you'll join us on December 2-4 in Austin, TX! To highlight the importance of this event and the impact it can have on your life at home, I'm releasing this special bonus episode of the podcast. I'm speaking with two of my closest friends and Front Row Dads members, Hal Elrod and Justin Donald. My hope is that this conversation inspires more like-minded Dads to join us in Austin, so we can change the world, one family at a time. Podcast Highlights What does it mean to be a Front Row Dad? How to develop a better relationship with your kids through quarterly (or even monthly) one-on-one's. Making plans that speak your spouse's love language. Why a YES to somebody else, is by default, a NO to your family. Why getting together with like-minded Dads can completely transform your life at home. Why trying to control my family is one of my biggest challenges as a husband and father. The value of spending time with AND without your family. The difference between exposing yourself to information and immersing yourself in an experience. What will you gain from being at the Front Row Dads annual live event? Ep 359359: Creating Space From Family, Retreats, Live Events, and Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder with Ali Jafarian
One of the things that we encourage people to do as often as possible is to get out of their comfort zone, especially in a group setting like an FRD Retreat. We often fall into the trap of thinking that leaving for a few days or weeks to connect with others means we're not good parents and husbands. The truth is, if we're doing it for the right reasons, getting away from family can be the most transformational thing you can do for your relationship with your family. And the ultimate goal is that when we get back, we're returning as better partners to our spouses and better fathers to our kids. That's why I'm pumped to have Ali Jafarian back on the show today. Ali is a legend in our brotherhood, and he's the dude who built the Front Row Dad Member Area. He's spent the last 13 years building web products for start-ups and Fortune 500's. He's an amazing husband and father of two and just an epic human being. In today's conversation, we go deep into how retreats and creating space from family help you to show up at your absolute best in marriage and parenting. We also go over why it's crucial to be present in everything you do and how being surrounded by other amazing people can inspire and challenge us to grow as dads, husbands, and leaders. One last thing! Don't forget our Inaugural FRD Live Summit is happening from Dec. 2nd-4th here in Austin, Texas. Capacity is limited, so sign up at FrontRowDads.com/Live to book your spot today! Ali Jafarian Podcast Highlights If you go on retreats just to have a break from your family, you're doing it wrong. The positive energy that Ali brings to every interaction and how that builds trust with other people. When our kids and spouses seek their own adventures, it's our job to support them. What drives Ali to create life-altering retreats for others. Stop hiding behind the label of a "great dad," and start getting out of your comfort zone and connecting with other people. Help your kids figure out life on their own by giving them options instead of telling them what they should do in life. Ep 358358: Stoicism, Work & Life Blending, 3 Principles for Parenting and How KidsStrong Builds Strength & Confidence in Children with Matt Sharp
If you're a family man with a business, the temptation to check up on work projects or emails when we're home with our kids can be a challenge. But sometimes kids just need us to play with them, or hangout on the couch and watch one of their movies. Even if they've seen it dozens of times. If we're present in those moments, it will make a huge difference and hopefully they'll have fond memories of those times when they have kids of their own. And as much as they love to run around and test our limits, the reality is: they actually do crave structure, guidance, and discipline. The biggest challenge is usually finding the time to do it right while still making it fun for them. The good news is that there are awesome folks out there who are making a difference to solve that problem. One of them is today's guest, Matt Sharp. Matt is the co-founder of KidStrong, an organization that helps kids improve their physical and mental fitness. With KidStrong, Matt has helped thousands of kids grow their confidence and strength and prepare themselves to tackle whatever life throws at them. KidStrong also gives parents the tools to build confident, resilient, and hard-working kids and set them up to win in life. Their innovative teaching style is an obvious upgrade from the one traditional establishments offer and helps kids become mentally and physically fit humans. In our conversation, we dig into how stoicism helped Matt become a better leader and how to help children become mentally and physically fit humans. Matt also shares his three parenting principles that will help any parent to be fully present with their kids and how focusing on improving the culture in your organization boosts productivity. Matt Sharp Podcast Highlights The difference between work-life blend versus work-life balance. Modeling leadership and entrepreneurship for their kids by leading through your actions. How parents often project their dreams and ambitions onto their kids, instead of letting them figure out how to be better people. How stoicism helps you to improve your leadership and how you react to stressful situations. How Matt juggles his roles as a father, husband, entrepreneur, and teacher, and how he sets an example for his kids. Time isn't being wasted if we're spending time with our kids instead tackling that next email. The mindset to attract and retain top talent by hiring A-players and just get out of their way. Ep 357357: Raising Kids That Are Kind, Leading with Empathy and Creating Memorable Experiences with Brian Ondrako
For anyone that grew up in a household where the word love was seldom said or shown, it can be the only thing that we remember about our relationship with our parents. Today's guest can certainly speak to that. Brian Ondrako is a father, author, sales consultant and the host of the Just Get Started podcast. In his newest kids' book, The Magically Magnificent Mysterious Mind, he reminds us that the happier we are, the happier it will make others around us feel. As a single Dad, Brian is intentional about the time he spends with his son. He talks about how his grandparents had the biggest impact on him as a child, and now that he's a father, he wants to be that person for him. In our conversation, we talk about how kids are happiest when they're loved and supported, how he's handling his son's YouTuber aspirations, and the four pillars that Brian says can make or break any relationship. One last thing! Don't forget our next Online Summit is coming up on November 10, 2022 where we'll be focusing on the Emotional Intelligence Pillar. Book your spot today by visiting FrontRowDads.com/Summit. Mark Your Calendars and Sign up! Our next Online Summit is on November 10th from 12 pm-3:30 ET, where we'll be focusing on the Emotional Intelligence Pillar and our nervous system. It's LIVE and in person! Capacity is limited, so sign up at FrontRowDads.com/Live to book your spot today! Brian Ondrako Podcast Highlights How kids will suppress emotions and hide their feelings when love isn't expressed at home. The four values that make a healthy relationship healthy but are generally missing in a bad relationship. Why entrepreneurs struggle with sales and how Brian helps clients climb over that wall with honesty and empathy. Kids are happiest when they feel supported and encouraged to try out new things and learn from their experiences. It's easy to be rude and harder to be kind. Let's raise our kids to be kind. When our kids ask to try something new, it's our job to make sure they see it through. Ep 356356: Saying No To Kids, Integrating Your Past, The Pain of Living in the Future & Unhiding Yourself with Dr. Kelly Flanagan
Gentlemen, I am absolutely pumped to welcome Dr. Kelly Flanagan back to the show. He is many things to many people, and he's a legendary member of our brotherhood. Kelly has a new book coming out this week titled, The Unhiding of Elijah Campbell, and I can't wait to dig into it. I hope you'll check it out too. One topic that we've discussed many times over the years on the podcast and our Online Summits is how we can all be better at being vulnerable with our friends and especially our family. And we really unpacked that in this conversation as we talked about how we all have a tendency to hide ourselves and our truest thoughts to avoid feeling shame. It's natural to want to hide our crap, our secrets, and the things that we don't like about ourselves. But doing that doesn't promote and create connection. And when we unhide ourselves, there's freedom to be found there. Kelly shares a fantastic story of someone who gave an advance copy of his new book to their friend's 95-year-old mom. And after reading it, her mom shared some things with her daughter that she had never talked about before. So it's not just freedom but healing that can be found when we unhide ourselves. We covered a lot of ground in this conversation. We talked about the importance of facing your past to improve your present, the challenge of saying no to our kids, and how love isn't always about being in agreement with each other, but being able to hold space for disagreement as well. So much good stuff there. One more thing: If you purchase Kelly's book (and I highly recommend that you do) please leave a review on Amazon. Even if you're only two chapters into it, you can still share your thoughts before you finish the book. It helps so much in spreading the word, and reviews help us too. So here's my gift to you: If you leave an honest review of this show, take a screenshot of it and send it to [email protected] with your address. I will send a free copy of the book to the first 5 people. (US Residents only) Mark Your Calendars and Sign up! Our next Online Summit is on November 10th from 12pm-3:30 ET where we'll be focusing on the Emotional Intelligence Pillar and our nervous system. It's LIVE and in person! Capacity is limited, so sign up at FrontRowDads.com/Live to book your spot today! Kelly Flanagan Podcast Highlights How to stop hiding your authentic self and learn how to fully express yourself with your kids, spouse, friends and family in a healthy way. The importance of welcoming, and accepting, all the parts of your personality and every role you play in interpersonal relationships. Why entrepreneurs are future-focused and often fail to face the past, and how that harms them in the long run. Fully revealing and unhiding yourself isn't always sharing ourselves with others, sometimes it's actually about helping ourselves and our own confidence. True love isn't always about being in agreement with each other, love is being able to hold space for disagreement.
