Ep 448448: Life Lessons Sports Teaches Kids and Taking Control of Your Health with Jason Bronstad and Jason Wachob

In today's Member Takeover episode, I'm passing the baton to a couple of Jasons and badass members of the Brotherhood. Today's host is none other than Jason Bronstad and joining him is Jason Wachob. Jason Wachob is the co-founder of mindbodygreen, an organization that revolutionizes health and wellness with holistic approaches that go beyond traditional medicine. In this conversation between two Jasons, they discuss something that is easy to forget as parents: it's not the flashy gifts or the fancy cars that win our kids' hearts. What matters most is our presence—being there for their sporting events, plays, or simply hanging out and playing at home. As a former basketball player, Jason W. opens up about the impact sports had on him and the valuable life lessons, health benefits, and positive impact sports have on our kids' personal growth, both on and off the field. Jason W. also shares some killer insights, medical tests, and screens to help us step up our health game, catch any warning signs early, and take control of our mental and physical health. Enjoy! Ep 447447: Growing From Conflict & Testing the Minimum Viable Separation Concept to Reconnect with Alex Pardo and Mike Wagner

In the second episode of our Member Takeover Series this summer, we're keeping the momentum going with two more powerhouse members of the Brotherhood, featuring Mike Wagner and hosted by Alex Pardo. Mike doesn't hold back about his struggles with being genuinely present for his family and how he used work to escape the daily pressures of fatherhood. A big part of Mike's recovery is his embodiment practice of "feeling whatever is" and being honest about his emotional struggles in front of his kids. He shares why this practice is not just for him but serves as a live demonstration to his children on managing emotions in healthy ways. You'll also hear why Mike recommends testing a concept he adapted from Tucker Max, the Minimum Viable Separation. By spending some time away from our family when we're feeling disconnected from our loved ones it allows us to reconnect, resolve conflict and show up in healthier and happier ways. A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through… The metric for quality time = presence Daily practices to get to a flow state Resources for practicing meditation & presence Leading by example with screen time and technology Improving relationships and anger issues starts within Managing conflict by pausing, then communicating Reconnecting with your family values Mike's daily routines to be at his best Testing the Minimum Viable Separation Concept Get the Full Show Notes Want access to the full show notes, including links to all resources mentioned during today's conversation? Ep 446446: Somatic Coaching & Anger Therapy Concepts and Breaking Free of "I'm Not Enough" with Matt Drinkhahn & Michael Chu

In the first episode of our Member Takeover Series this summer, we're kicking things off with two incredible humans and VIP members of the Brotherhood, featuring Michael Chu and hosted by Matt Drinkhahn. In this conversation, Mike shares some of the childhood wounds that he's worked on since becoming a parent, from overcoming his belief that he "wasn't good enough" despite enjoying tremendous success in creating multiple 7-figure businesses and being a National Champion in martial arts to managing BIG feelings, anger, and frustration with somatic coaching & therapy concepts. You'll also hear how Mike uses a "Stop, Drop & Roll" technique to manage stress and conflict with his wife and children which has helped him to be a better partner to his spouse and Dad to his kids. It's easy to forget that when the women we love are upset, they just want to be heard. They aren't asking us big, strong men to fix the problem immediately, a lesson Mike has learned and now manages with his superpower and calming presence. Enjoy! A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through… Breaking free of the "suck it up" mentality Mike's rough start on his journey of becoming a Dad Healing childhood wounds with somatic coaching Mike's "Stop, Drop and Roll" tools for dealing with anger Pass "the test" by getting out of your own head Demonstrate that feeling your feelings is a strength Therapy is ongoing, like muscles, use it or lose it Hold space for their feelings first instead of fixing the problem Get the Full Show Notes Want access to the full show notes, including links to all resources mentioned during today's conversation? Ep 445445: The Pitfalls of People Pleasing, Becoming Mr. Right and a Journey of Family Experiences with Mike Green

Mike Green is a loving husband, father of two amazing kids and a trusted voice in the FRD Brotherhood. Professionally, he's an ER physician who has been able to shape and sculpt his life around creating memories with his family, even while working long hours, including 24 and 48-hour shifts at the ER. In our chat, we went deep on the pitfalls of being a people pleaser and how that can stunt and even derail relationships when we try to be somebody other than our true selves. Mike also shares several smile-inducing memories about his childhood with his Dad, from spending his early years on a houseboat in the Bahamas and the work/life balance mindset he inherited to creating a make-shift aquarium in the bathtub for weeks at a time with live fish and turtles. 🤣 Before we wrapped things up, Mike opened up about what it means to him to be a part of the Brotherhood, to have a safe place to be real and have honest conversations with other men who are all striving to be better Dads and husbands despite having different opinions on many topics. That's something that definitely resonates with me and probably many of you too. Enjoy! A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through… Two superpowers Mike got from his Dad Early life living on a houseboat in the Bahamas Being afraid of Dad as a child Work/life balance lessons from Dad Shaping your calendar to sculpt your life The golden nuggets from the Health Summit Becoming Mr. Right vs finding Mrs. Right Balancing boundaries, trust with people pleasing Planning future family experiences How about Father's Day FRD Meetups? Ep 444444: Mr. Nice Guy Syndrome, Managing Boundaries, Shame and Our Triggered Nervous Systems with Dr. Robert Glover

Today, I'm joined by Dr. Robert Glover. Robert is a therapist, coach, speaker, and author of the groundbreaking book, No More Mr. Nice Guy. This is a must-read for men who struggle with expressing their needs and setting healthy boundaries without feeling guilty or shame. In our conversation, we explored how our childhood traumas set the stage for how we manage emotions and interact in our relationships and how to ditch those "covert contracts" we make with people, assuming they should read our minds and know what we want without us having to say it. Robert shares practical advice on how to set boundaries in a way that doesn't alienate others and instead draws them in. You'll also hear about the 3 covert contracts that nice guys make with themselves that cause anger and frustration. We also bonded a bit by talking openly about how we handled disagreements in our own marriages, how easily we get triggered, and how to approach these moments with love the next time. Enjoy! A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through… Early days of No More Mr. Nice Guy The toxic extremes of nice guys and jerks Identifying the two types of "nice guys" The challenge of managing boundaries & shame Three covert contracts that nice guys make The link between our nervous system and triggers Robert's mindfulness routine for dealing with anxiety How letting go brings us closer to the answers we seek Boundaries are for me, not you Get the Full Show Notes Want access to the full show notes, including links to all resources mentioned during today's conversation? Ep 443443: Vroman Family Cornerstones, Love & Respect and NOT Following In Your Father's Footsteps with Jon & Rick Vroman

Fellas, today's episode is near and dear to my heart because I'm here with my very own Front Row Dad, Rick Vroman. Many of you are likely aware of my father's impact in shaping the man I am today, but we're digging a little deeper here and going back to my father's childhood and taking a peek into our own evolution as fathers. You'll hear what it was like for my father to grow up with a pretty demanding dad and his experiences and importance of hard work and providing for his family. But we'll also get into some fun stuff like fishing trips, where our athletic bloodlines and my entrepreneurial spirit come from, and some family traditions that go way back. We talked about the bond we share of never feeling pressured to follow in our father's footsteps, why my Dad never tried to nudge me toward a specific career or path in sports, and how the best parts of moving around so much as a child allowed me to explore and reinvent myself. Finally, we talked about our Family Cornerstones document that my Dad created when I was very young, why he wrote it, and how much that document still means to both of us to this day. Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there! A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through… Rick's childhood with a very demanding father Carving your own path is sports, not your Dad's Wishing for more heart-to-heart convos Parenting goal: Make the next generation better Embracing responsibility, hard work and persistence The different seasons of fatherhood Being happy by NOT following in your father's footsteps What if we made different choices as young fathers? Ep 442442: Billion Dollar Real Estate Secrets from Monopoly, Homemade Bedtime Stories with AI and Hosting Family Sleepovers with Brandon Turner

Gentlemen, I am here with real estate mogul Brandon Turner. Brandon is a real estate investor, podcaster, bestselling author, entrepreneur, and founder of Open Door Capital LLC. He's built a world-class real estate empire closing on a billion AUM, he's recognized as one of the foremost experts in real estate and led the BiggerPockets podcast to 100 million downloads—just an all-around legend. We talked about how he balances his time between business and family and how his faith and religion have shaped him into the amazing Dad he is today. Brandon explained how his success skyrocketed by not letting indecision become the decision, learning how to trust and manage risk, and also how to delegate instead of abdicating. And perhaps surprisingly, could his love of playing Monopoly have revealed the billion-dollar secret to success in real estate at a young age? You'll hear his thoughts on involving your kids in real estate deals, the importance of scheduling some "no kids connection time" with his wife, and what he's doing with the BetterLife Tribe to donate a billion dollars to fight human trafficking. Brandon also talks about how he's using AI and ChatGPT to create adorable bedtime stories in real time with his kids and how he makes time to play on their level, literally. Last but not least, I asked Brandon a question that he's never been asked before, and you'll want to hear the incredibly moving story that came from it. This episode is jam-packed with much more, so buckle up and enjoy! A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through… Trust vs Risk and Delegate, Don't Abdicate Crisscrossing the frozen ice with Dad to McDonalds Don't do what I do! No yelling allowed! Ep 441441: Open Hearts for Healthier Marriages, "Humaning" with Kind People and Finding Your Updraft with Dr. Kelly Flanagan

We're very fortunate to have so many legends in the FRD Brotherhood, and today's guest, Dr. Kelly Flanagan, is definitely one of them. Kelly is a psychologist, consultant, speaker, and author of several books that profoundly transformed my views on marriage, family, relationships, and friendship. In our conversation, we talked about how easy it is for couples to get triggered by seemingly minor things. Even after decades of expertise in understanding the human psyche, he still deals with this in his relationship. You'll hear how he's become aware of when his heart is closing and how the key to managing marital conflict is to keep your heart open. You'll also hear what Dr. Kelly is doing with his Humaning Substack and how you can join 14,000 other subscribers. He's using his platform to share inspiring stories of how we can improve our reaction to stress and crisis by not fighting against the current but instead being present enough to find the updraft as an easier way to reach our destination. One last thing, if you appreciate this episode, I'm offering to send you a copy of any of Dr. Kelly's books. Simply leave a review, take a screenshot and send it to us with your address to [email protected] and I will gladly purchase the book and send it to you. (This offer is for US residents only due to international shipping costs). Ep 440440: The Traumas That Create Our Superpowers, Adversity is an Advantage and Raising World Travelers with Ray Bayat

I'm joined by fellow FRD Brotherhood member Ray Bayat. Ray founded NetCo Investments, Inc. along with Mitch Bayat in 2002. But if there's one thing you should know about Ray, it's his dedication to being an amazing Dad and husband, always striving to improve in every role he plays. Today's conversation is all about growth. Ray shares his journey growing up in Iran during the revolution, his family's sacrifices (especially his Dad, who was tough-as-nails), and how that experience molded him into a more understanding and evolved parent and loving husband. Ray believes real growth happens when we're uncomfortable, and he's making sure his children learn that lesson early. Despite being teenagers, his kids have traveled to dozens of countries, exposing themselves to different cultures, ideas, and ways of life. Ray also talks about how grateful he is for his amazing wife, Katrin. From parenting to business, she always pushes him to be better and has been invaluable in helping him achieve his goals and stay grounded. A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through… Make sure you add value to every interaction Everyone is a work in progress Growing up during the Iran revolution How like-minded men help you grow faster How a Tony Robbins event transformed Ray's marriage Supporting his son through grief A better way to deal with your kids' temper tantrums Choose her every day Raising brave adventurers Ray's message to future FRD members Get the Full Show Notes Want access to the full show notes, including links to all resources mentioned during today's conversation? Ep 433433: Becoming an Eternal Optimist, Being Perfectly Imperfect and Evolving as a Parent with Matt Drinkhahn

Matt Drinkhahn is a business coach, strategist to growth-minded clients, a dear friend, and valued member of the FRD Brotherhood. He just released a fantastic book, The Eternal Optimist, which I'm excited to dig into and the impact that it's had on so many people. One of Matt's greatest gifts is that any time you spend with him always leaves you feeling loved, accepted, optimistic, and re-energized about your future. You can never have too many friends, especially when struggling with doubt, shame, and guilt. We'll talk about how it's never too late to make a change and be a friend to someone who feels that they're not enough. In our conversation, Matt opens up about his evolution as a parent and how he moved away from micromanaging his kids' lives to letting them carve their own paths. He also emphasizes the benefits of having a Brotherhood to lift you up and remind you that being perfectly imperfect is better than constantly striving for perfection. One last thing, we're giving away a few copies of Matt's book. If you enjoyed this episode, leave us a genuine review, send a screenshot of the review and your address to [email protected] with your address and we'll send you a copy. (US residents only due to international shipping costs). Ep 428428: How Conflict is Change Trying to Happen, Internal Family Systems and Meeting Vulnerability with Vulnerability with Rick Hupp

Rick Hupp is an experienced Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, specializing in helping people heal from trauma and build better relationships. If your life ever feels like a broken puzzle with a few missing pieces, we'll talk about how you can put it back together today. In our conversation, we'll explore a few big questions: why do so many guys struggle to create peaceful, loving relationships? How does our past factor into our present relationships and "Internal Family Systems"? And how can we manage conflict, triggers, and resentment in better and healthier ways for our families. Rick shares some practical tools for easing tension in relationships and choosing our partners in ways that aren't just repeating the same old patterns. We'll talk about meeting vulnerability with more vulnerability when we'd typically release our anger on our partners and create guilt and shame instead of repairing and resolving our issues. Ep 421421: Matching Family Tattoos, Legacy Planning with Your Kids and Slowing Down to Be Present at Home with Christopher Nicolaysen

Christopher Nicolaysen knows what it's like to grow up without a lot of money and with a father who wasn't around much because of work. As a parent, he's done everything he can to ensure his daughters had a father who was home as much as possible and fully present when he was with them. In our conversation, you'll hear what family time is like in the Nicolaysen household. From getting absolutely demolished by his daughter playing Mario Kart, board game nights, why they decided to get matching tattoos and how he avoids the stereotypical working Dad "How was your day" question. But it's not all fun and games. Christopher and his wife have already paid for their funerals; they've talked to their kids about money and involved them in their legacy planning. We covered a lot of ground, but the big takeaway here is how he's created such close bonds with his daughters, who are grown-ups now, how he de-escalates confrontation and keeps his marriage fresh and thriving after 26 years. Enjoy! A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through… Learning good work ethics from Dad The quickest way to lose respect from your kids Being present for those ordinary moments Getting smoked in Mario Kart by your kids Staying engaged leads to a healthy marriage Legacy planning and talking about money with kids The $20 tipping rule De-escalation methods to manage arguments Advice on parenting, marriage, money, and health The FRD 5 - Five Daily Commitments Get the Full Show Notes Want access to the full show notes, including links to all resources mentioned during today's conversation? Ep 405405: Helping Kids Discover Their Potential, Pushing Boundaries and Intentionally Designed Education with Garrett Weber-Gale and Justin Moss

Today, I'm joined by Garrett Weber-Gale and Justin Moss, the creators of Discover Term. This is a life-changing adventure where kids get out of the house for 5 weeks, away from their parents, ignite their passion and discover their true potential. When we talk about creating memories that will last a lifetime for our kids, this is the stuff that gets me fired up. Also, there's an enrollment window for October with spots still available.
