In the last 50 years, scientists have looked at this data. There have been tons of meta analyses that show that even this data is BS. Not linked to your risk of heart disease or heart attack. Yes, they may raise LDL but that's not inherently bad. Many Harvard studies funded by vegetable oil industry --> biased. Coconut oil is NOT BAD for you. In fact, it is good! Entered US market in the 50s. Soybean and other vegetable oil corporations were angry about this. A stunt to keep out foreign competition. Case to be made that the sat fat lies are due to a trade war. Good to use in manufacturing and don't cause inflammation like many others do! It's awful because this trade war has made so many unhealthy. Many who have decided these are bad for you find they can't go back on it because of the psychology of going against your life's work. Effort to shore Ancel Keys' work up in an effort to make themselves feel better. Studies also use too small a sample size for those who are low carb. If people are still fat after 60 years of following these dietary guidelines, maybe it's the guidelines that are the problem. Some of Vinnie's companies advertised their healthy products. However, the expo was really filled with terrible food. Some booths had good intentions, but many stole good intentions. There were tons of products with erythritol and other sweets on top of products that simply didn't need them. Nothing called 'caramel sauce' can be good for you. This is still sugar -- even if the sugar is 'natural' or comes in the form of chemicals. Why would you put this on chicken? These type of products are not good for you. Even if you aren't NSNG®. Plus, these products are also not satiating. Lots of these products have 15+g carbs, but have the nerve to say they're sugar free or the like. MULTI-SPORT ATHLETES Fewer kids these days play many sports. In Vinnie's day, the athletic kids played everything. You could get a ton of letters on your jacket. Vinnie had 4 for football, basketball, track, and field -- 16 letters total. They'd also get different champion and tournament patches, too. This worked for Vinnie! He got a D1 football scholarship to Tulane. It's good for kids to play many sports. It can often help the other sports, too. We should encourage this! Let kids play a variety of sports and love the game. Otherwise, you can really burn your kids out. Not every kid needs to get an athletic scholarship. Dr. Ede her residency at Harvard for four years. Dr. Ede believes that for many, it is easier to believe that saturated fat is what causes fat. Not always financial bias. Ex: Loma Linda University study (promotes vegetarian diet) found that saturated fats hurt mice (they ignored that also in the higher fat diet was a MUCH greater amount of sugar). Other studies that say meat is bad removed all processed foods at the same time. There are no pure studies that say animal foods are bad for your health. She believes removing the processed foods is where the money is at . Now, Dr. Georgia does not eat plant foods or dairy. Fish and other meats. Pretty extreme diet. In ketosis constantly. Insulin has to cross into the brain. Your brain can become insulin resistant. Then your cells will starve to death when your brain is filled with glucose that can't be broken down. Link between sugar consumption and Alzheimers. She agrees that these artificial sweeteners are so similar to sugar that your body can't really tell the difference. They trick the body into thinking carbs are coming, thereby raising insulin levels. Coffee, Dr. Ede believes, can be very helpful for those with head trauma, ADD, ADHD, etc. Stimulant is good! Because Jonny became so interested in all of this, he ended up getting a PhD in nutrition! BATTLING CANCER Recently, Oscar was diagnosed with multiple myeloma quite late in the game. After finishing a river race, he suddenly felt a pain in his back. He went to the doctor once it was significant and consistent and this lead him down a trail whereby he discovered his cancer. He was given 4-6 months to live, but he has beat the odds in his respect. The diagnosis did take him by surprise because Oscar was a very healthful man! He fasted, was incredibly fit, and the like. It took him ages to recover when he was dealing with his sickness and treatments. He'd walk 800 meters and need to rest for 24 hours. But, slowly and surely, he built this back up! He doesn't look as strong nowadays. HELPING YOUR KIDS It's important to make sure your kids have a healthy relationship with food. Not making too big a deal is usually the way to go. Vinnie believes if your kid is stuck on eating carbs, allow your kid those foods so long as they're also eating healthy foods, too. When it comes to health-related stuff, you have to trust your kids have an innate sense of wanting to look and feel good. Lead by example, and invite your kids to join you -- don't force them. You can also buy fewer junk foods and let them pick out something they want from time to time. Cooking with your kids is another great way to show them how yummy healthy foods can be. She is an elementary school teacher. When she caught it, she didn't feel well, but she certainly didn't feel terrible or hospitalization-worthy. Tammy was in good shape. She got it after going to an outdoor concert, or from the friend with whom she attended the concert. There were around 25 people at the event, and she did distance, typically. Of course, it's also possible one of them got it elsewhere, or something similar. At the time, she was at least relieved she had gotten it out of the way without a bad case... but she was wrong. Between June and August, after she had COVID-19, she felt okay. Then, in August, she had severe aches and pains and was absolutely exhausted. Her body felt like it was failing her with the fatigue and the like. For the whole year, she felt absolutely terrible -- foggy, pain, fatigue, and more. Her doctor told her a lot of people relapse like this. Nobody could help her -- essentially, they didn't have answers and sent her to a support group. The support group is helpful. There are 180,000 people in the Facebook group, and so many can't even get out of bed. TREATMENT She sought out Dr. Teitelbaum because she did not want to live like this. He has been on the show before.
