Tonight we’ve had a woman whose career was entirely shaped by Youtube. From posting song covers back in 2013, to being on adverts and music videos and now even her own single in the span of two years, Elizabeth Tan is a social force to be reckoned with.   A KL girl through and through, she left for Dallas, Texas for two years for her studies. Everything was moving along quietly for Elizabeth until one day in December 2013, she posted a cover of Joe Flizzow’s Havoc on Youtube and the Malaysian public went wild for her.   Soon, she was called up by radio stations to perform live featuring Joe Flizzow himself! Quickly enough, she was signed under Faizal Tahir’s record label. With the label, Eilzabeth released her first single titled Setia featuring Faizal Tahir, which launched earlier this month. She also sang and featured in Goldfish & Blink’s latest music video single, Somewhere New. Aside from music, Elizabeth has been trying to venture out into the acting industry as she was handpicked by local director Mamat Khalid for Usop Wilcha Menghonjang Makhluk Muzium, set to be released on the 3rd September nationwide. Papi Zak

Tonight, we had a man who’s infectious laughter and wit as a stand-up comedian kept him on morning radio for a long time, it’s none other than Malaysia’s biggest comedian, Papi Zak.   When it comes to Papi, biggest is also a literal form of what he is when he belts out jokes on stage. Always starting with his trademark “Don’t be fooled with this accent, I’m 100% Malay” opening line, Papi was a child of a diplomat where living abroad was his life. Born in Egypt, raised in Germany and Japan. He studied in America which were he picked up the accent.   Malaysia called him and in 2003, he settled back down here. Upon the recommendation of his comedic hero, Harith Iskander that prompted Papi to pursue stand-up comedy. Starting off with open mic nights at The Actor’s Studio in Bangsar, Papi honed his skills of making audiences burst into laughter. In 2007 he performed alongside Malaysia’s premiere trio of comedians; Jit Murad, Douglas Lim and of course, Harith Iskander for Harith Iskander’s Eh… Got Free Ticket Ah? Soon after, Papi started performing throughout Malaysia. From shows in KL, Penang and Sabah, Papi has became one of Malaysia’s most wanted comedians. He is also a Creative Director for his own production house, Jo Mama Productions , working with major clients. Papi also was the host for Joanne Kam’s Super Kam 3: It Gets Wetter. Roen Cian

Tonight in our TTON studio, he left the world of advertising and came back with an impeccable string of successful nightlife spots dotted all around Kuala Lumpur, he’s none other than Roen Cian!   Roen started off by studying Advertising and Marketing in University of Canberra. He came back to dive deep into the world of advertising with big names like NagaDBB, Grey Worldwide and Moet Hennessy Diageo Malaysia. After a decade’s worth of experience and lessons, Roen decided to leave his well-paying salary for a bigger challenge, being a player in the F&B industry.   His start was being one of the co-founders for TTDI’s popular Tom, Dick and Harry’s bar in 2009. But things got up to a higher gear when him and childhood friend, Dax got to get together at an empty bungalow in Damansara Heights and kickstarted their empire of nightlife spots. By 2010, The Hill at Damansara Heights was quickly gaining traction in the KL nightlife scene.   Things were going well for the man as The Pool at Jalan Ampang was opened in 2012. Although 2013 saw the closing of The Hill, resources were pulled together, headquarters were shifted, an investment of RM10 million later, The Roof at Bandar Utama was launched in mid-2013 reminding everyone that Roen is now one of the big guns in the industry. Not resting on his laurels, Roen has two new projects; one is Life Juice Co. A new health food company that does cold press juices, smoothies and organic elixirs. And inspired by his passion for football, Roen setup The New Camp in Bandar Utama, a 3 acre sports complex boasting 2 FIFA approved 3G astroturf football fields. As the cherry on top, last month, he became an ambassador for Adidas. For the record, Roen scored 14! If you like what you've heard, check out the website here! Tonight in the TTON studio, yet another Englishman accompanies Richard. He’s a man who’s has a penchant for bursting Malaysian rooms with laughter from his comedy ever since 2012, it’s Justin Heyes!   Justin states that he started his comedic career in 2006 by writing jokes for other UK comedians. After the pen was down, his drive for the stage grew. In 2009, he bucked up and went on stage to perform as a comedian on his own. He quickly performed all over the UK and worked around the comedic circuit in London. As 2012 swinged by, Justin decided to move over to the always sunny/raining Kuala Lumpur. He went on to build a name for himself, combining his unique alternative perspective comedy and the unnoticed gems of Malaysian culture, he soon became a regular at shows in Kuala Lumpur. Also branching out towards Penang, Singapore and even Cambodia!   He has has appeared in a few local productions, a sitcom called Cakap lah Melayu! which also features Phoon Chi Ho and Cinta Di Gerai, a local telemovie. Justin is noted for being the first British comedian who performed Komediri. A Harith Iskander production for pushing Bahasa Melayu stand-up comedy for the masses via Astro WARNA.   Lastly, Justin notes on his Facebook page, “because as my late Nan once said 'If you can make at least one person smile every day, you're doing something right'.” Good man, he is.   For the record, Justin scored 12! Talkback Thursday: Do we really need the KL City Grand Prix?

There's been very little hype surrounding the KL City Grand Prix happening this weekend. Those living and working in KL have had to put up with road barriers that have forced pedestrians to walk on main roads rather than the usual walkways. And they now have to deal with road closures, an announcement made just weeks before for an event that was supposedly planned in advance. With such poor planning, does Malaysia stand to gain from an event like the KL City Grand Prix? Is it good for tourism? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode #16: Neil Adams, Part 2 (When We Last Left Our Heroes)

Neal Adams. He would define The Bronze Age. He would leave his stylistic mark on the X-Men, Green Lantern, and Superman. Sulaiman Azmil

Tonight we have a rather special comedian in the studio tonight. He’s a man who’s a lawyer by day and cracks jokes about his Nusantara adventures, Sulaiman Azmil! We find out when he’s out of the courtroom, would sir still speaketh the truth?   Sulaiman’s comedy started like a fabled tale. Like any other Malaysian tale, it involves getting lost on our roads. He missed a turn in in Sri Hartamas and ended up doing his first-ever stand-up comedy set on Comedy Kao Kao at Publika instead of dining al fresco at a restaurant in Plaza Mont Kiara.   Sulaiman’s humour is all Inspired by the penglipur lara of yore, nothing pleases him more than to share anecdotes of his travels and misadventures in the Nusantara, his trials and travails as a tax-paying Bumiputera. He’s own observations and twists are hilarious reminder of the world we live in and how much of a caricature it has become. He has performed all over KL, PJ, Penang till he found himself in Hanoi and Singapore performing his stories and jokes for all to hear and chuckle about. Speaking of performing, Sulaiman was a member and also the host for a six-comic ensemble titled The Dirty Half Dozen where he was noted by this review for having balls.   You can catch Sulaiman whether at the Comedy Crackhouse, Sure Laugh One (TTDI’s monthly comedy show) or even later from 16th to 25th September as Sulaiman would be performing for Harith Iskander’s Kuala Lumpur International Comedy Fest 2015 at any of these places!   For the record, Sulaiman scored 11!
