After spending time in prison, he found it pretty hard transitioning out of jail and struggled to get a job. Sauté managed to get a job through the YMCA ReBuild project. Mick Cronin is a YMCA Youth Services leader and Project Manager at the ReBuild project, with a wealth of experience working in youth justice. This week's guest is Gary Jubelin. Gary worked in the NSW Police Force for 34 years and was one of Australia’s most well known homicide detectives, leading investigations into several high profile murders and disappearances. This episode is a bit heavier than usual and contains conversations that some listeners may find confronting or triggering. Because of the nature of Gary’s work we discuss missing persons as well as murder, including the murder of young children. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander listeners are also advised that this conversation mentions the names of deceased persons. So everyone please be kind to yourselves and keep your own boundaries in mind before listening to this one. Gary lead the investigation into the disappearance of William Tyrell, the serial killing of three aboriginal children in Bowraville, he ran the crime scene following the Lindt Cafe siege in Sydney, has investigated organised crimes and gangs, is most well known for his work solving missing person cold cases, and was even the inspiration for a main character in one of the Underbelly TV series seasons. Gary eventually resigned from the Police Force after allegations of misconduct had him removed from the William Tyrell case and he was later found guilty of illegally recording conversations with a witness. Gary has a book out and a podcast both called I Catch Killers, which I’d highly recommend, it’s one of my most listened to and it’s super interesting if you love true crime. He interviews other high profile detectives as well as people on the other side of the coin that have committed some of these crimes. We cover all of these topics, including how he goes about solving such complex crimes, his work ethic and the rigours of being a detective, the pressures of becoming a high profile cop. This was a really interesting and different chat that I’m really proud of and excited for you to listen to, I think you’ll get a lot out of it. Welcome to this week's special guest, Jack Steele! By popular demand, Jack Steele joins us on Dyl & Friends as the recently elected Captain of the St Kilda Football Club (Congrats Jack!). Jack's become a household name in the AFL world but like all superstar players, he's had a unique journey. Jack's journey in football started at a young age in his hometown of Canberra where he joined the GWS Giants academy at the age of 13. Five years later, that same club would select him in the 2014 National Draft with pick 24. Steele struggled to stamp his authority at the Giants and departed the club after two seasons despite an eagerness to stay. Jack's had plenty of adversity in his career and battled some early self-doubt at the Giants but five years later, he's well and truly triumphed. In June 2018, Richard became a household name when his profession as an anaesthetist and his hobby, cave-diving became a crucial combination that would play a major role in the Tham Luang Cave Rescue. You may remember this internationally covered rescue where 12 members of a Thai soccer team and their coach were saved after being trapped whilst caving. Richard and I spoke about his experience in Thailand, the strategy and planning that went into the rescue as well as his passion for cave-diving. Oliver joined the AFL and the Melbourne Football Club in 2015 with the 4th overall pick in the draft after bolting up the order late in the drafting year. A lot of punters would now argue he is the top performing player from that 2015 draft crop alongside the likes of Jacob Weitering, Darcy Parish, Harry McKay and Cal Mills which speaks volumes to the output and influence he's had in the past 5 years. Darc is coming off a stellar season with the Blues picking up the league goal-kicking award as well as a best and fairest. She was truly special this year and set new benchmarks for the ever-growing AFLW competition. If you’ve been living under a rock and aren’t too familiar with Darcy’s career, she played a marquee role in launching the AFLW competition, quite literally, with a best-on-ground display in the first ever official AFLW game against Collingwood. Since the inception of AFLW, Darcy has been a key figure on and off the field bringing the game forward.
