In 2020, Nedd made headlines when he ran 50 marathons in 50 days to raise money for the Red Cross’ efforts to tackle homelessness around Australia. That incredible feat clearly didn't satisfy Ned as he's gearing up for an even bigger challenge where he plans to break a world-record 3800km over 43 days that will see him run just shy of 100km every day, for some 43 days. Mary is a Clinical Psychologist and has worked as Mental Health Lead at the Australian Institute of Sport, is the team psychologist for the Victorian men’s and women’s cricket teams, and has the role of Mental Health Expert at Headspace. Mary has worked with a range of athletes and teams across both Olympic and professional sports, as well as with individuals with a variety of mental health disorders. We chat about Mary’s experiences working with athletes and how we can all implement these methods and strategies to benefit our lives. This week's guest is Gary Jubelin. Gary worked in the NSW Police Force for 34 years and was one of Australia’s most well known homicide detectives, leading investigations into several high profile murders and disappearances. This episode is a bit heavier than usual and contains conversations that some listeners may find confronting or triggering. Because of the nature of Gary’s work we discuss missing persons as well as murder, including the murder of young children. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander listeners are also advised that this conversation mentions the names of deceased persons. So everyone please be kind to yourselves and keep your own boundaries in mind before listening to this one. Gary lead the investigation into the disappearance of William Tyrell, the serial killing of three aboriginal children in Bowraville, he ran the crime scene following the Lindt Cafe siege in Sydney, has investigated organised crimes and gangs, is most well known for his work solving missing person cold cases, and was even the inspiration for a main character in one of the Underbelly TV series seasons. Gary eventually resigned from the Police Force after allegations of misconduct had him removed from the William Tyrell case and he was later found guilty of illegally recording conversations with a witness. Gary has a book out and a podcast both called I Catch Killers, which I’d highly recommend, it’s one of my most listened to and it’s super interesting if you love true crime. He interviews other high profile detectives as well as people on the other side of the coin that have committed some of these crimes. We cover all of these topics, including how he goes about solving such complex crimes, his work ethic and the rigours of being a detective, the pressures of becoming a high profile cop. This was a really interesting and different chat that I’m really proud of and excited for you to listen to, I think you’ll get a lot out of it. This week I'm joined by none other than the Olympic superstar, Peter Bol. Peter is best known for holding the national record for the 800m. A record that he broke during the 2020 summer olympics held in Tokyo, Japan where he came 4th in the 800m final. The final broke numerous broadcasting records for the volume of Australian viewers who tuned in to cheer Peter on. Peter and I unpacked his journey from going to school in Perth to quickly becoming one of the biggest names in middle-distance running across the world. The lifestyle and challenges that an olympic athlete faces as well as the goals Peter has for the future.
