The #1 Barrier to Healing and Recovery is…

Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! I want to talk about the biggest barrier to recovery and health, which is stress.  In particular, we’re going to talk about the activation of the “fight or flight” mechanism. The sympathetic nervous system’s primary function is to stimulate your body’s fight-or-flight response.  When your body is in a fight or flight state, your adrenal glands are activated, which sharply increases your levels of cortisol and adrenaline.  Our bodies aren’t made to endure long periods of time in fight or flight mode—you can endure 90 seconds or less without a problem. However, today’s environments at work and in daily activities promote the fight or flight system to work endlessly, which just isn’t healthy.  The problem is, when you get stressed, you cannot heal or recover. When fight-or-flight mode is always activated, you… • Are unable to get good sleep • Cannot heal • Release glucose • Can’t recover • Can experience poor digestion • Have poor wound healing • Retain sodium • Excrete potassium • May cause damage to your hippocampus  • Have added risk of disease and infection • Experience chronic inflammation • Experience an increased risk of heart disease • Experience bone loss • Experience a loss of collagen formation You can help reduce your stress levels with these simple things: • Exercise: • Diet • Fasting • Acupressure  • Vitamin B1, potassium, and magnesium • Breathing exercises  • Vacation/taking time off • Not taking things so seriously Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Fat Soluble vs Water Soluble Vitamins: When Do You Take Them?

Talk to a Dr. Berg Keto Consultant today and get the help you need on your journey (free consultation). Call 1-540-299-1557 with your questions about Keto, Intermittent Fasting or the use of Dr. Berg products. Consultants are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 9 pm EST. Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! I want to talk to you about fat-soluble vitamins vs. water-soluble vitamins. When should you take them, and what is the difference? Fat-soluble vitamins are stored in your fat cells and in your liver. Water-soluble vitamins are not stored—if you consume too much, your body will get rid of what you don’t need.  Fat soluble vitamins include: • Vitamin A • Vitamin D • Vitamin E • Vitamin K1 • Vitamin K2 These vitamins are able to penetrate the fat layer of your cells and go deeper. They can even affect your DNA and mitochondria. Water-soluble vitamins are not capable of this.  Water soluble vitamins include: • B vitamins • Vitamin C You want to take fat-soluble vitamins along with fatty foods. So it’s best to have fat-soluble vitamins with food. They are absorbed far better this way.  You can take water-soluble vitamins any time—you don’t need fat to help with absorption.  Fat-soluble vitamins are toxic in large amounts. Unlike water-soluble vitamins, fat-soluble vitamins are stored, and excess amounts cannot be released through the urine.  Keep in mind that you should be taking water-soluble vitamins while you fast since your body doesn’t store them very well. Stop Anti-aging Creams and Do This Instead...

Should you use anti-aging cream, does it even work? The answer is no. Anti-aging cream will not make your skin any younger. Anti-aging creams do often make your skin tighter and more hydrated, but they do not make the skin younger.  Is there a way to reverse the aging process or at least slow it down? Yes, there is. You just have to understand the concept of "inside out" vs. "outside in." You can't get the body to look and feel younger by applying something topically or working from the outside in. You have to work from the inside out.  Look at the balance of how much oxidation is going on versus the antioxidants in the body, which counter free-radical damage. There are two sources of antioxidants: exogenous (through the diet) and endogenous (your body can make antioxidants).  A high carb diet and low nutrients can make the aging process worse. But, if you switch your diet from glucose to ketones, the ketones will act as an antioxidant. I always recommend the healthy ketogenic diet to help get the nutrients you need.  You also want to preserve the growth hormone. Glucose, insulin, cortisol, and alcohol will lower the growth hormone. Exercise, fasting, and sleep can help spike growth hormone.  The best combination for anti-aging: 1. Intermittent fasting & prolonged fasting 2. Get plenty of sleep 3. Keep your stress levels down 4. Exercise 5. Do healthy keto  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Check Out What Happened When I Fasted for 21 Hours: Dr. Berg's Intermittent Fasting Experiment

I want to tell you what happened when I increased my fasting to 21 hours.  Normally I eat around 12-1 and 6-7. I get about 18 hours of fasting with a six-hour eating window. For my intermittent fasting experiment, I had my first meal at 3 and my last meal at 6. That's just a three-hour eating window, which gives me 21 hours of fasting. This may not seem like much, but it made a significant difference in my cognitive function.   The intermittent fasting benefits I experienced after 21 hours:  • Improved memory  • More focus  • Better learning  • Better at locating things  • More creativity  • Better mood  • Increased productivity  • More organized   • More decisive  Here's what happens. You increase something called BDNF. This is a protein that helps you grow neurons and slow aging. More health benefits of intermittent fasting:  • Increases ketones  • Increases autophagy  • Improves synapses  You may already be doing this intermittent fasting pattern, or you may be doing OMAD (one meal a day). But, if you're at 18 hours or less, I challenge you to start trying 21 hours of fasting. Try it for three days, and then evaluate your cognitive function.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Not Losing on Keto: See 9 Reasons Why

In this podcast, we're going to talk about weight loss plateaus. I'm going to cover why you're not losing weight on keto, and also some keto weight loss tips.  What is normal?  When someone does keto and intermittent fasting, they typically lose a lot of water weight in the first week, maybe even 8 pounds. But then, in the second week, they are hardly losing weight at all, maybe 2 pounds. Well, the maximum amount of fat you can lose per week with a healthy metabolism is only 2 pounds. 1/2 - 2 pounds in actually really good.  It's get healthy to lose weight, not lose weight to get healthy.  Your health comes first, weight loss second. If you start the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting and you're not losing weight, but you notice your hunger is gone, realize that it's working. You just need to give it more time because the body has to get healthy first.  Muscle weighs more than fat per volume. If you have a loss of muscle protein, and you start the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting, your body is going to repair that first. So, you might start to gain more muscle. You might notice that your waist is still shrinking, and that means it's working.  Keto not working? Try this: 1. Double-check your carbs  2. Adjust your fasting pattern  3. Cut down on vegetables if you're bloating 4. Cut down your fat to about 75g 5. Exercise  6. Add 30 minutes - 1 hour of sleep 7. Add apple cider vinegar, potassium, vitamin B1, magnesium, and vitamin D 8. Reduce stress  9. Fix health problems  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Intermittent Fasting and Muscle Mass Gain

In this podcast, we’re going to talk about intermittent fasting and muscle mass. Can you gain muscle while fasting? Let’s say you want the benefits of intermittent fasting, but you also want to gain muscle, how can you do that? Well, there are several factors in play here.  Sometimes people think they need to spike insulin to gain muscle mass. They load up on carbs because carbs trigger insulin, and insulin is an anabolic hormone. But, when you stimulate insulin too much, you create insulin resistance. If you have insulin resistance, you can’t absorb protein or amino acids that well. What to do to help gain muscle mass: 1. Do 2 meals a day (do intermittent fasting for at least 16 hours) 2. Get enough exercise  3. Don’t go over 50g of carbs (if you’re younger, you may be able to go up to 70g) 4. Consume 6-8 oz. of complete protein per meal (egg and fish are good)  5. Get your nutrients (calcium, B vitamins, magnesium, vitamin D, potassium) A few things that can slow down muscle gain or cause muscle loss: 1. Cortisol  2. Long fasts (72 hours) 3. Insomnia  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Ever in the Mood For Healthy Foods?

Talk to a Dr. Berg Keto Consultant today and get the help you need on your journey (free consultation). Call 1-540-299-1557 with your questions about Keto, Intermittent Fasting or the use of Dr. Berg products. Consultants are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 9 pm EST. Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! Today we’re going to talk about eating based on mood. If you’re on keto, you’re probably doing it for health reasons or weight loss. But if you’re not on keto, what motivates you to eat?  It’s dangerous to ask your body what it’s in the mood for because you’re really asking what’s going on with your blood sugars. If your blood sugars are low, your answer will likely be refined carbohydrates.  Some people eat to try to raise their mood. Others eat just because there’s food there. It’s best not to have junk food available in your house because if it’s there, you might be more likely to start eating it without even thinking about it.  Our bodies have a mechanism to crave sodium foods. We do not have a mechanism to crave potassium foods. Our bodies retain salt, but they cannot really retain potassium. This gets people in trouble because they will ask their body what they’re in the mood for, and they will think they want something salty. They will start consuming a lot of sodium and not potassium, which will alter the correct ratio and can cause fluid retention and even more cravings.  What to do:  • When you eat, start with your vegetables first, and then have your salty protein.   • Find keto-friendly healthy foods that give you a lot of pleasure.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Thyroid Health is Dependent on the Liver

In this podcast, In this video, we’re going to talk about your thyroid health. I’m going to share with you how to fix your thyroid by fixing your liver. There is a significant link between hypothyroid conditions and a fatty liver. The higher the liver enzymes, the worse the thyroid is.  80% of the conversion of T4 (the inactive thyroid hormone) to T3 (the active thyroid hormone) occurs through the liver. 20% is through the kidney. If there is kidney damage, that will also inhibit the conversion.  If you can improve the liver just a little bit, you may be able to create huge improvements in the thyroid. In the majority of cases, the root cause of a fatty liver is fructose or a high carb diet. It’s not the fat. It’s the carbs.  Natural remedies for this situation: 1. Selenium 2. Keto and intermittent fasting 3. Milk thistle  4. Choline  5. Zinc  6. Vitamin D Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Need More Carbs to Boost Energy?

Talk to a Dr. Berg Keto Consultant today and get the help you need on your journey (free consultation). Call 1-540-299-1557 with your questions about Keto, Intermittent Fasting or the use of Dr. Berg products. Consultants are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 9 pm EST. Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! Today, we’re going to talk about carbs and energy. Many people think they need carbs for energy, but they don’t. When you eat carbs, you lose potassium. Low potassium can cause symptoms such as:  • Fatigue  • Weakness   • Paralysis  • Leg cramps   • Abnormal heart rhythm   • High blood pressure   • Tremors  There is something called insulin-induced hypokalemia. Hypokalemia is low potassium. When you stimulate insulin because your carbs are high, you block an enzyme, which is a pump. You have millions of these in all of your cells.  This pump basically keeps the potassium inside of the cell and the sodium outside of the cell to form an electrical gradient so it can act as a battery. 30% of all of the energy in the body is allocated to this pump. If you inhibit this pump, more potassium stays outside of the cell, and you start losing potassium. There are more causes of a potassium deficiency such as:  • A spike in insulin  • Not consuming enough potassium foods  • Loss of fluid   • Steroids   • Alkalosis   • Diuretics   • A decrease in magnesium  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. 7 Things That Boost Insulin Sensitivity or... Reverse Insulin Resistance

Today, we’re going to talk about the seven things that can help increase insulin sensitivity. To understand insulin sensitivity, you need to understand insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is a situation where the receptor for insulin in your cells is blocking insulin. It’s not allowing insulin to go into the cells. You don’t have the function that insulin should have normally. Because of this, the body starts putting out more insulin.  Insulin is very important to help regulate the blood sugars and to help with the absorption of nutrients. But, the more insulin resistance you have, the more insulin you’re going to have, and the more problems you’re going to have. For example, in the presence of insulin, you can’t lose weight.  We want to improve insulin resistance by making insulin more sensitive. Help improve insulin sensitivity naturally by doing these things: 1. Resistance training  2. Fasting  3. Decrease inflammation  4. Reduce glucose (do healthy keto) 5. Increase sleep 6. Decrease stress (cortisol) 7. Consume more vegetables (fiber) A few additional things to help increase insulin sensitivity:  • Apple cider vinegar  • Cinnamon  • Omega 3   • Vitamin D Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Sleepy After Lunch? Your SIESTA Means You Have...

In this podcast, we’re going to talk about why you’re sleepy after eating, or you feel like you really need an afternoon nap. The main reason you feel tired after eating is because of carbohydrates. There are many countries that take a siesta, such as: • Mexico • Italy • Philippines • Vietnam • Certain Mediterranean countries • Southern Europe • Spain Is feeling sleepy after a meal normal? No. There is actually a name for feeling sleepy after eating. It’s called postprandial somnolence. Basically, this refers to the food coma you get every day. This is a common feature of diabetes. When you have the combination of refined carbohydrates and the volume of calories, this can cause a blood sugar spike and an insulin spike. Both of these can make you tired. Why does this cause you to be tired after eating? There are several things going on: • You activate the parasympathetic nervous system. • You decrease the blood to the brain. • You decrease the arousal pathways of the brain. • A high carb diet causes you to absorb certain amino acids but not others like tryptophan, which will be absorbed through the blood-brain barrier. Tryptophan will then directly turn into serotonin and melatonin (the sleep hormone). If you live in a country where people typically take a siesta, consider trying not to consume carbohydrates with your lunch for one week. At the end of the week, see if this little experiment has helped you feel less sleepy after eating. The Downfall of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)

Talk to a Dr. Berg Keto Consultant today and get the help you need on your journey (free consultation). Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! Do Not Eat Chicken Again, Until You Watch This: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo8b_... In this podcast, we’re going to talk about the downfall of high fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup has been a very popular sweetener for the past 30 years. In 1980 an average American was consuming about 20 pounds of high fructose corn syrup. The consumption of high fructose corn syrup spiked in the year 2000 to 61 pounds, and by 2015 it was down again to 39 pounds. Many different companies have been making the shift from high fructose corn syrup to other forms of sugar.  The problem with high fructose corn syrup is that it is 53% glucose and 42% fructose—the rest is different types of sugars. The fructose can do some serious damage to the liver. All of your cells have receptors for glucose, but not fructose. Only your liver can break down fructose. If you consume a lot of fructose, you can overload the liver and create all sorts of health problems.  High fructose corn syrup is also made in a lab with cornstarch. Corn is GMO, so you’re getting that added glyphosate. Thankfully, high fructose corn syrup and even sugar are becoming less popular. I think it has something to do with the awareness of the keto diet.  Consumption of different products in the 70’s versus present day:  • Milk — down 44%   • Beef — down 33%  • Cheese — up 193%  • Yogurt — up 1600%  • Grains — up 12.7%  • Corn — up 180%   • Corn sweetener — up 300%   • Chicken — up 110%   • Vegetable oil — up 270%   • Soy — up 190%  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Why do Ears and Nose Grow as You Age?

Talk to a Dr. Berg Keto Consultant today and get the help you need on your journey (free consultation). Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! In this podcast, I want to talk about why your ears and nose continue growing as you get older. Unfortunately, it’s inevitable—your ears and nose will grow and grow. While your bones stop growing in your early 20s, your cartilage doesn’t. Your nose and ears are made up of cartilage, which is why they don’t stop growing. At the same time, the connective tissue that holds the cartilage together decreases. This can lead to drooping and sagging.  Men also have a problem with something called DHT. DHT is a powerful type of testosterone that is created from testosterone and a certain enzyme. This leads to hair loss. Interestingly, though it stops the growth of hair on your head, it also increases the growth of nose, ear, and eyebrow hair.  There are certain natural enzyme inhibitors that help prevent DHT called 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors. This happens to be found in pumpkin seeds.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. How Ketones Affect Hormones and the Endocrine System

In this podcast, we're going to talk about how ketones affect hormones and the endocrine system. 1. Insulin Lowered insulin triggers the production of ketones. When you have high insulin, you can't get into ketosis. Carbohydrates and frequent eating are what mainly trigger insulin. Lowering your insulin and running your body on ketones can have a lot of health benefits.  2. Glucagon  Glucagon is a hormone that helps mobilize and burn fat. Glucagon is stimulated by a moderate amount of protein, intense exercise, and reduced insulin.  3. IGF-1 This is a hormone that works very similar to growth hormone. IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1) mobilizes fat fuel when you're not eating or when you're keeping your insulin low. When you eat, IGF-1 goes down, and insulin goes up.  4. Growth hormone  Growth hormone is an anti-aging hormone, it helps make proteins in the body, and it's a fat-burning hormone.  5. Cortisol  This is an adrenal hormone. If you go through a lot of stress, typically, your cortisol levels will be elevated. This elevated cortisol can eventually lead to a spike in insulin.  6. Thyroid hormones  When you're on keto, and you start to make ketones, you might see a drop in T3 (the active form of thyroid hormone). This is not a problem because ketones are a much more efficient fuel than glucose, so the thyroid does not have to work as hard. Even though your T3 might be down, you should feel just fine and have lots of energy.  7. Estrogen  Estrogen can increase the sensitivity to insulin. If you have low estrogen levels, you may find that you have more symptoms of insulin resistance. Some women with extra weight after menopause may actually be more estrogen dominant because fat makes estrogen. The healthy keto diet may help. Postmenopausal Estrogen Comes From Your Own Fat

Overview of Healthy Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMZfy...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBqpa...  Today we’re going to talk about postmenopausal estrogen. Before you go through menopause, the ovaries are working and producing estrogen. But, after menopause, when your ovaries go into retirement, you’re going to get it from other places. You can actually get it from your fat cells. If you have a lot of body fat, you could start making excessive amounts of estrogen. You can also convert some of your adrenal hormones into estrogen as well, but it’s not as much as your fat. There is an enzyme called aromatase that helps you convert fat into estrogen. This is one reason why some women end up with an estrogen dominance situation after menopause that can lead to other issues.  Potential symptoms of a postmenopausal estrogen dominance situation:  • Cancer  • Hot flashes  • Night sweats  • Vaginal dryness  • Depression  • Irritability  A fatty liver issue can also cause a woman not to be able to clear out estrogen properly, and it can build up even more.  There are 3 types of estrogen:  • E1-Estrone (produced by the adrenals)   • E2- Estradiol (made from the ovaries, fat, adrenal hormones)   • E3-Estriol (you have pretty much only during pregnancy) One thing you can do is take a natural aromatase inhibitor, such as:  1. White button mushrooms  2. Stinging nettle root 3. Grape seed extract 4. Maca 5. Quercetin 6. Licorice  7. Genistein 8. High Doses of Vitamin D Can Deplete Magnesium

Today we’re going to talk about vitamin D and magnesium. A lot of people are taking a good amount of vitamin D because of all of the amazing benefits of vitamin D, but high doses of vitamin D can deplete magnesium, which isn’t good. Vitamin D is important for:  • The immune system   • Keeping calcium in the bone  • Decreasing inflammation If you have large amounts of vitamin D over time without enough magnesium in your diet, this could intensify a magnesium deficiency. Vitamin D and magnesium work together. If you increase vitamin D, you could potentially decrease magnesium.  Magnesium has a very important function of keeping calcium from accumulating inside of the cells, kidneys, arteries, and joints. Magnesium is similar to vitamin K2 in that vitamin K2 helps keep calcium from building up in the soft tissues, but magnesium does that as well.  When you take high doses of vitamin D3 without magnesium, you could potentially end up with:  • Kidney stones   • Calcium buildup where it should not be If you consume a good amount of vegetables every day, or you take a good magnesium supplement, you don’t have anything to worry about. Vitamin B6 is also very important and helps both vitamin D and magnesium work. But, again, if you’re doing healthy keto, you shouldn’t have to worry about this.  Possibly the biggest danger is if you’re a stone former and you take a lot of vitamin D without getting enough magnesium because this could potentially increase your risk of kidney stones.  Consuming at least 7 cups of vegetables per day will help you get the magnesium you need. Leafy greens and certain nuts are rich in magnesium.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. What is a Carbohydrate: Simplified

Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! In this podcast, we’re going to talk about carbohydrates and sugars. I want to clear up some of the confusion around carbohydrates and sugars.  What are carbohydrates? Carbohydrates are made up of sugars, starches, and fiber. The biochemical name for a carbohydrate is a saccharide. Carbohydrates are a compound of saccharides, and carbohydrates are classified by the number of saccharides. The Greek word for saccharides is “sugar.” Monosaccharides—Mono means “single” or “one.” So a monosaccharide would be one saccharide. Monosaccharides are glucose, fructose, or galactose. This would be considered a simple sugar.  Disaccharides—Means two monosaccharides. An example would be table sugar or sucrose. Sucrose is composed of two monosaccharides: glucose and fructose. Disaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides make up complex carbohydrates.  Oligosaccharides—These are 3-9 monosaccharides. Polysaccharides—Poly means “many.” This would be about ten or more monosaccharides. A few examples of polysaccharides would be starches like potatoes, rice, wheat, and corn. Fiber is also an example of a polysaccharide. Fiber helps decrease the absorption of sugar. Fiber also decreases the sugar response or sugar spike. Fasting Effects on the Diabetic's Eyes

Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! In this podcast, we're going to talk about fasting and diabetes. I want to cover the fasting effects on a diabetic's eyes. In a study done on mice, researchers found that fasting had a protective effect on the retina and other nerves. The retina is nerve tissue. They found that fasting improves the microbiome (your friendly bacteria). It causes the microbes to change bile salts to a compound called TUDCA, which then gives protection to your nerves.  If you're a diabetic, you could have problems with the vascular supply to the nerves. The nerves can start to die in the fingertips, toes, eyes, and kidneys. TUDCA counters the damage to the nerves not just in the eyes but in other nerves as well.  What causes this problem originally is the high levels of sugar that a diabetic is living with. Sugar is very corrosive, and it can destroy the nervous system. When you're fasting, you're cutting out sugar and normalizing your insulin levels. When you fast, your microbes improve.  With fasting your microbes:  • Start to increase the resistance to oxidative stress  • Diversify   • Live longer   • Tolerate pathogens better Making your microbes stronger can also:  • Help you produce certain byproducts that help your blood sugars and improve insulin resistance  • Make more vitamins   • More immune protection Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course!  DATA: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1... Today we’re going to talk about rancid oil and your gut health. What is rancid oil? This is the incomplete or complete oxidation of fat or oil. Fats and oils have antioxidants to protect from this oxidation. But, if it has been exposed to light, oxygen, heat, or processing, the antioxidants can start to be destroyed, causing the oils to break down.  This can especially happen to unsaturated fatty acids. Saturated fatty acids don’t typically turn rancid because they’re more preserved.  A few oils/fats that are more susceptible to becoming rancid:  • Soy oil   • Corn oil   • Canola oil   • Olive oil  • Nuts Signs that that fats or oil is rancid is if it smells or tastes:  • Musty   • Sour   • Bitter  • Metallic  It can actually be toxic to your cells or genes to consume rancid oil or rancid fats in somewhat large amounts. But, even a small amount can irritate certain parts of the body. Your gut health can especially become affected. The rancid oil or rancid fat can cause a lot of inflammation in the body as well as free radical damage.  So many people are actually consuming large amounts of rancid oil without even knowing it. If you eat at a restaurant, and afterward, you feel a little sick or bloated, it could be because of rancid oil.  A few things you can do:  • Buy fresh nuts   • Refrigerate and germinate the nuts   • Don’t consume soy, corn, or canola oil (GMO)  • Buy fresh olive oil  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. In this podcast, we’re going to talk about ketones and cancer. I want to answer the question, “can ketones feed cancer?” I actually contacted professor Thomas Seyfried to help me with this question, and this video is based on what he told me. Professor Thomas Seyfried is an expert on cancer and ketones.  Ketones and fatty acids might be used in some slow-growing tumor cells that have retained some level of respiratory capacity.  What does that mean? There is one big difference between a cancer cell and a normal cell. That difference is how that cell is using its fuel. In a normal cell, you have this machine called the respiratory chain that basically takes fuel and turns it into something the body can use to run all of the different metabolic processes. Oxygen is the key thing in this process.  When this system is damaged, there is no oxygen. So, how do the cells turn oxygen into energy? They have a plan B. They convert over to a different mechanism where they ferment glucose and glutamine, which is a specific type of amino acid. So, cancer cells ferment glucose and glutamine. This alternative mechanism doesn’t need oxygen.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Why Babies Thrive on Ketosis

In this podcast, we're going to talk about why babies thrive on keto.  When a woman is pregnant, especially during the last trimester, 30% of all of the energy fed to that baby is from ketones. Once the baby is born, for the first two hours, they're running off of lactate. But, after that, they convert to ketones again. Ketones are not meant to be an alternative fuel. In fact, breast milk is loaded with MCT fats, which then turn into ketones.  A baby's brain makes up between 11-12% of their entire body weight, as compared to an adult brain, which only makes up 2% of the weight. With a newborn, 75% of all of the energy used is for the brain. An adult uses 20-25% of energy for the brain.  Ketones not only provide a good amount of fuel for an infant's brain, but they also provide the building blocks for the lipids of the infant's brain. Ketones also supply the brain with 90% of the carbon to make the white matter.  Babies are born with extra fat because that fat can help supply more ketones. But, formulas are like giving a baby a high carb diet. The glucose and carbohydrates will prevent the ketones from being used as fuel. Consider trying to breastfeed as long as possible. In the process, make sure you're eating foods with all of the ket nutrients. That way, the child has the best chance of optimizing their IQ, bone formation, the reduction of risk of different diseases, and their longevity.  If we started out on ketones, why would we want to go to a high carb diet?  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. In this podcast, I'm going to talk about the paleo diet. People have asked me whether or not they should be more of a vegan or carnivore. I personally believe you should consume a diet with a combination of plants and animal products. Several archeologists found direct evidence at a site in northern Israel of what people ate 780,000 years ago. It was a combination of plants and animals. In other places around the world, people would eat pretty much whatever they could get.  Based on this article, the archeologists found that these humans ate a large range of plants, including:  • Thistle seed  • Water lilies   • Acorns   • Water chestnuts  • Olives   • Some fruit (Fruit was very different then, it was much less sweet and was seasonal.) These humans also consumed:  • Elephant brains   • Whole animals   • Insects Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Why Stress (Cortisol) Makes You Fat (Spikes Insulin)

Today we’re going to talk about how stress can actually make you fat. I’ve had some diabetics test their blood sugars when they go through stress, and stress seems to elevate the blood sugars, but why?  Your body’s response to stress is spiking cortisol. Cortisol has the potential to significantly raise your blood sugars. You could be on the keto diet and doing everything right, but your blood sugars are still going up. This could be because of stress or trauma.  Stress side effects on weight loss:  • Cortisol can release glucose from your liver.  • It deaminates protein, which means it basically breaks down protein and turns it into glucose.   • Cortisol can lower your insulin sensitivity, which can lead to inulin resistance.   • Cortisol will drive the storage of fat to your midsection. This could be why people with a lot of stress end up with weight gain around their midsection.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Will Adrenal Fatigue Cause Weight Gain?

The question I want to answer is this: can adrenal fatigue cause you to gain weight?  The first thing you need to know is that the medical profession does not acknowledge adrenal fatigue as a medical problem. They just don't recognize it. There's a condition called Cushing's syndrome, which is characterized by high cortisol or hypercortisolism. Cortisol is known as the stress hormone, and the adrenal glands are responsible for creating it.  The thing is, you don't just wake up with this Cushing's. It gradually starts and gets worse it worse. The starting point is adrenal fatigue—the same way that prediabetes happens before type II diabetes.  With a full-blown Cushing's syndrome case, you can see these symptoms: • Visceral fat • High blood pressure • Round face • Red cheeks • Fatigue • Anxiety • Buffalo hump • Fat-collar bone • Thin skin • Decreased libido • Hypokalemia • Low vitamin D • Insomnia However, people with adrenal fatigue can also experience these symptoms, but they may not be quite as severe.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Eat More Magnesium Foods and You'll Feel a Lot Better

Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! Today we're going to talk about magnesium and why you may feel a lot better if you start eating more magnesium foods.  If you go to the doctor, and you have a magnesium deficiency, it won't show up in a blood test. This is because 99% of that magnesium is inside of the cell, not outside of the cell in the blood. Just because the test is normal, doesn't mean you're not deficient. There is something called a subclinical deficiency where you might have some magnesium, but not the full amount.  There are over 300 enzymes that are involved in many different biochemical reactions that require magnesium.  Out of all of the minerals, magnesium is the second most important to potassium. You need both of these in pretty large quantities. 90% of the magnesium is located in the muscles and bones. If you have low magnesium, you may have bone problems and problems with the muscles like muscle cramps, muscle weakness, or muscle stiffness. Another key function of magnesium is maintaining electrical charge in the cells.  Another symptom of a subclinical magnesium deficiency is vascular calcification. Calcium and magnesium work together. It's not just about taking too much calcium. It could be a deficiency in magnesium or a deficiency in vitamin K2.  The two main causes of a magnesium deficiency: 1. Consuming too many refined foods  2. Not consuming enough foods high in magnesium  If you don't feel quite right or you don't have enough energy, consider increasing your magnesium intake for one week and see what happens. For viruses like COVID-19 to spread, it has to be propelled in the air, and you have to come in contact with it. Certain viruses have targets for certain tissues. The coronavirus targets the lungs.  Viruses are everywhere. One liter of seawater contains over 100 billion viruses. So, it really all comes down to susceptibility. The purpose of a virus is to deliver its DNA or RNA into the host cell to be copied so it can continue.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. If we look at a virus, like COVID-19, as if it’s our enemy, it has certain strengths and weaknesses. You would never want to attack an enemy from its strengths. You would want to attack its weaknesses.  What is the strength of a virus?  The strength of the coronavirus is its ability to kill the elderly and people with pre-existing health conditions. Essentially, to attack someone with a weak immune system.  What is the weakness of a virus? It doesn’t have hardly any influence over people with a healthy immune system.  **Your strategy should be strengthening your immune system.  Healthy eating, consuming foods that are high in nutrients, is vitally important when it comes to strengthening your immune system, and virus resistance. But, when people are stressed, they typically eat unhealthy foods. During a stress state, it’s crucial to continue eating a healthy diet.  Stress, worry, and fear spikes cortisol. Cortisol has an interesting effect on the immune system. Chronic stress can actually suppress the immune system. Your immune system is your defense against viruses and pathogens. This is why some people have a virus come out of remission when they’re stressed. Stress can increase the susceptibility to certain pathogens.  Not only do you need to strengthen your immune system through foods and nutrition, but you also need to keep your stress as low as possible.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Pre-existing Health Conditions and COVID-19 Susceptibility

Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! Today I want to talk about COVID-19 (the coronavirus) and why certain underlying health conditions put you at a higher risk.  Pre-existing health problems and increased COVID 19 mortality rates: 1. Cardiovascular — 13.2% 2. Diabetes — 9.2% 3. Chronic respiratory — 8.0% 4. Hypertension— 8.4% 5. Cancer — 7.6% If a person doesn’t have any of these pre-existing health problems, the mortality rate is 0.9%. But, if a person has underlying health conditions, the death rate can increase significantly.  The way the virus penetrates the cell is through a receptor interaction. The little spikes that come off of the coronavirus connect to the ACE2 receptor opening the door to the cell, where they can go in and create damage.  People with the above health conditions have a much higher concentration of the ACE2 receptors. But there is another condition that has a higher concentration of these receptors, and it’s called insulin resistance. Another thing that’s interesting is that in a lot of cases, people with cardiovascular problems, diabetes, hypertension, and cancer, also have insulin resistance. It’s possible that improving insulin resistance may help with these conditions. There has actually been a coronavirus treatment that has been developed and is being tested in a few different countries, including South Korea and China. Now, it’s also going to be used in the USA.  They’re actually using an old drug that’s being repurposed. It’s called chloroquine.  The original purpose of chloroquine is for malaria. Vitamin C's Immune Benefits

Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! Today we're going to talk about the immune benefits of vitamin C. Vitamin C does a lot of different things for your health, but it's immune benefits are really amazing.  Vitamin C deficiencies are actually a very common problem. You can have what's called a subclinical vitamin C deficiency, where you're not completely deficient, but you're deficient enough to have a weakened immune system. Vitamin C is a water-soluble nutrient. This means that unless you're constantly getting vitamin C, you could become deficient very quickly.  Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant. Free-radicals can damage certain things in the body. Vitamin C can help counter free-radical damage.  Immune benefits of vitamin C: 1. Enhanced antibodies  2. Increased neutrophil motility  3. Enhanced B-cells (increases antibodies) 4. Enhanced T-cells (helps fight pathogens) 5. Increased interferon (kills infected cells)  A vitamin C deficiency can make you more susceptible to certain infections. If you're very deficient in vitamin C, you can develop scurvy. Scurvy can increase susceptibility to fatal infections like pneumonia. Scurvy is often followed by infectious epidemics because infections increase the need for vitamin C. If you're using your immune system more, you can deplete your vitamin C reserves.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. I’ve got some good coronavirus news for you today. There is a paper titled “High Temperature and High Humidity Reduce the Transmission of COVID-19.” According to this paper, higher temperatures and higher humidity significantly reduce the spread of the coronavirus. This means that the arrival of summer and a rainy season may effectively decrease the spread of COVID-19.  This could make sense because when the coronavirus pandemic first began, certain countries that were warmer and more humid had fewer coronavirus cases than countries with a colder and less humid climate at the time.  In the next few months, as the temperature is warming up and the humidity is increasing, I think we may see a significant drop in the spread of the coronavirus.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. How Coronavirus Targets Your Lungs

Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! Today we’re going to talk about the relationship between the coronavirus and your lungs.  The word “corona” comes from the word “crown.” The coronavirus has small projections that look like a little crown—the little projections like lung tissue.  In certain cases, especially critical coronavirus cases, a person can develop a condition called ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome). This is a situation where you have severe hypoxia, which means you have a lack of oxygen.  Other symptoms are:  • Rapid breathing   • Dizziness  • Breathlessness  • Sweating  What’s missing with COVID-19 is two nutrients: 1. Vitamin D 2. Zinc  90% of patients with ARDS have very low vitamin D levels.  • Vitamin D is an immune modulator  • It can help greatly improve the immune system   • It’s a great anti-inflammatory  Zinc is one of the most important nutrients for your lungs.   • It can help reduce inflammation  • If you’re deficient in zinc, an infection can last longer   • If you’re deficient in zinc, you’re more susceptible to infections, viruses, and bacteria  • If you’re deficient in zinc, you don’t have the full capacity of your white blood cells (your army) Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! DATA: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science... Today I want to explain a little bit about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) cytokine storm.  What is a cytokine storm? A cytokine storm is a situation that can occur in critical cases of the coronavirus.  A few things that are associated with a cytokine storm are:  • High fever   • Enlarged spleen   • A decrease or increase of the white blood cell count   • Low blood pressure   • Massive inflammation  Another name for cytokine storm is macrophage activation syndrome. A macrophage is a white blood cell.  A cytokine storm will typically occur when someone’s immune system is weak, they have a genetic weakness towards this condition, or they are overweight.  What is a cytokine? A cytokine is a communication messenger. It signals the cells to do certain things. When the virus invades the cell, the cell will then send out these messages to let the immune system know there is a problem.  This is why a huge inflammatory reaction can occur. If it happens in the lungs, there can be destruction in the lungs. The cytokines basically tell your “soldiers” to fight.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. They used a medication called hydroxychloroquine along with an antibiotic, and 100% of the patients recovered within 6 days. They also did a second trial with 80 patients. It showed clinical improvement in all of those cases except for 2.  2. Dr. Vladimir Zelenko said that in 699 COVID-19 cases, there was a 100% success rate. He used hydroxychloroquine, z-pack, and zinc. He’s recommending to hit the virus hard and early with this protocol. 3. Dr. William Grace has been using hydroxychloroquine and an antibiotic with really good results—not one death.  4. There was a study by the NIH using zinc showing a decrease in morbidity relating to lower respiratory tract infections.  5. There was another study done by the NIH in vitro using hydroxychloroquine. They found it was a potent killer of the coronavirus.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods. Today we're going to talk about why the coronavirus causes the loss of smell.  Some coronavirus symptoms:  • Fever  • Tired  • Cough (dry)  • Shortness of breath  • Sore throat  Recently it has been found that there can be an additional symptom, and it's the loss of smell. The medical name for a loss of smell is "anosmia." You can also have a loss of taste. What might cause this to happen? There is a certain enzyme that's involved in your perception of smell and taste. It's called carbonic anhydrase 6. This essential enzyme for the sense of taste and smell is zinc-dependent. Big symptoms of a zinc deficiency are actually a loss of the sense of smell and a loss of the sense of taste.  I think the reason for the symptom of a loss of smell could be a zinc deficiency. When you go through an infection, especially in your lungs, you use up a lot of zinc. Zinc is not stored that well in the body. So, unless your constantly consuming zinc, chances are you're going to be zinc deficiency. On top of that, with an infection, you could be even more zinc deficient. Why Smoking Spikes the Risk for COVID-19?

Talk to a Dr. Berg Keto Consultant today and get the help you need on your journey (free consultation). Call 1-540-299-1557 with your questions about Keto, Intermittent Fasting or the use of Dr. Berg products. Consultants are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 9 pm EST. Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 5 pm EST. USA Only. Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course! Today we’re going to talk about why smoking can increase the risk of COVID-19 complications. Smoking could also increase your risk of getting an infection in your lungs.  Smoking is a risk factor because it can significantly increase ACE2 receptors. In your cells, you have a lot of different receptors, and there’s one for the ACE2 protein, which is an enzyme.  The way that the coronavirus gets into the cell is through this little ACE2 portal. COVID-19 has little projections that basically connect to the ACE2 receptors. Once it connects, the doors open, and it can go into the cell and create destruction. Smoking can increase the number of little portals. The more portals this virus can enter, the more susceptible you are to getting an infection.  The lung tissue actually has the most concentration of these ACE2 receptors. Once the coronavirus is in your lungs, it creates a lot of damage within the airways. At this point, you can start to develop scar tissue and fluid in the airways. The membranes become thickened, and you start to lose your capacity to exchange oxygen and CO2. It’s the chronic nicotine inhalation, not just from smoking, but from vaping as well that could be an issue. If you quit smoking within 24 hours there could be a huge improvement.  In 2019, 43% of Italian smokers, smoked between 10-19 cigarettes per day. Two countries that are really getting hit with this virus are Italy and Spain. Both of these countries have a lot of smokers.  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 51 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional & natural methods.
