In this episode, we chat with Taj Singh, President and CEO of Discovery Silver, a junior miner that is looking to develop its flagship Cordero project in Chihuahua, Mexico. This is a high-margin primary silver mine that could turn into one of the largest primary silver mines in the world. Taj has a background in metallurgy. He has over 20 years of experience in the mining sector in the areas of executive management, business development, capital markets, project development, engineering, and operations. In this episode, we chat with Peter George, MD for Alicanto Minerals who are an exploration company with a portfolio of historically producing, high-grade Copper-Gold and Polymetallic Skarn and VMS projects located in Sweden. Peter is a mining engineer and mineral economist with a background in operations and management and more recently in executive management. He talks to us about Alicanto Minerals and their historic Sala project plus what it’s like to mine in Sweden. KEY TAKEAWAYS Alicanto has been uncovering rich deposits of copper, gold, zinc, silver, lead, and other assets in Sweden. They are a couple of months out from setting up their maiden resource at Sala. Gaining access to the historical records revealed 20,000 litres of the historical core. At 1244 grams per tonne, the historical silver grades were crazy high. Drilling using the latest technology has revealed assets that were not in the historical data, at Sala. Security worries, the drive to zero carbon, and low stockpiles are pushing governments to facilitate faster permitting. Free trade is being replaced by protectionism, which means a will to mine raw materials locally. Not all areas of Sweden move as quickly as the authorities have done in the Sala area. To succeed in mining, push yourself to learn new things, put yourself out there, and do as much as you can before you have family responsibilities. In this episode, we chat with Scott Hicks, VP of Corporate Development & Communications for Luminex Resources, a Vancouver-based Canadian & precious metals exploration and development company focusing on a Gold and Copper project in Ecuador. Over the last decades, Scott has worked on a variety of equity, debt, and advisory assignments in Canada and Australia. He talks about the company, its projects, and the general outlook for commodities. Luminex Resources is one of Ross Beaty’s development companies so be sure to listen. KEY TAKEAWAYS Luminex has the largest gold deposit in Ecuador, one of the biggest in the world, which also contains billions of pounds of copper. In 2022, the focus is their gold drilling programs and are advancing permitting for their vanadium and other projects. Their Ecuador-based partners include Anglo American and JOGMEC. Much of Ecuador has not been thoroughly explored using modern techniques. In 2013/14, the government began to actively encourage mining once again. The infrastructure in Ecuador is excellent, with good roads, hydropower, modern port facilities, and plenty of water. Many communities welcome mining, but in certain areas, there is some resistance. There is potential for more vanadium redox battery usage, so Luminex has a small company targeting that metal. Vanadium batteries don´t degrade, which makes a leasing model viable, that reduces the upfront costs involved in their use. Luminex has a good mix of assets in mining-friendly jurisdictions. The price outlook for gold is positive. In the podcast, Scott explains why he believes that is the case. With copper, grades from existing mines are degrading and new facilities are not coming on stream fast enough to meet demand. So, the copper price should remain strong. The company is also investing in and incubating other people´s mining projects. Examples of which are shared in the podcast. The current approach to mine planning does not take enough account of the physical realities of mining. Probabilistic planning is a far more effective approach. It enables you to recognise that delays happen and have a plan in place that can quickly be adapted. Optimistic planning assumptions shorten the shelf life of the plan, which undermines the role of mine planners. Using software, that is being developed, it will be possible to plan using a probabilistic approach rather than continuing to use a deterministic model. Anglo American conceived, designed, and launched their 300-tonne hydrogen truck in less time than it took Tesla to put their prototype on the road. Mining in a more precise and smarter way will greatly reduce energy consumption. In this episode, we chat to Akiba Leisman, CEO of Mako Mining Corp who is a publicly listed gold mining, development, and exploration company operating the high-grade San Albino gold mine in Nicaragua. Akiba is a chemical engineer by background and worked in investment banking and holds a few board roles. At the Tonopah, Nevada project they are getting grades above one thousand grammes per tonne on multiple targets. The best hole at Tonopah is 4408 grammes per tonne silver equivalent over 2.8 meters. They are about to start drilling at the New Mexico Mogollon project. Currently, between 60 and 70% of silver is used for industrial purposes. In the future, that percentage will rise sharply as demand from the electric car industry grows. Good silver assets are hard to find, so servicing that demand is going to be hard. Another reason prices are likely to rise. Despite doing a lot of drilling Summa Silver is still quite well-financed- The outlook for the silver market for 2022 is good. In July, they purchased a big copper exploration project in Labrador, Canada and partnered with Altius Minerals to explore it. Most big mining companies want to get exposed to copper and many are doing so by buying into exploration companies. The Canadian site is a sedimentary basin. Geology which typically results in good yields. There are already around 250 copper shows on the surface, so it is clearly heavily mineralised. Yet, due to it being isolated very little drilling has taken place, to date. Their first meeting with the Inuit First Nations Grand Chief, Etienne Rich went well. The Canadian brokers have responded well to their offering. Having Dr Neil O´Brien on board is paying dividends. He is well known and respected in the industry. Bottlenecks at the assay labs are causing problems. In Cyprus, exploration of the Limni South dumpsite is yielding good results, so they are looking to put together a gold oxide project. Both are junior explorers working across Australia and the US focusing on high-grade precious metals and copper assets. Alistair is an exploration geologist with a background working in Australia, South America, and North America. He is here today to talk about the exciting projects he is involved in and his experience travelling the world as a geologist. An area that has produced spectacularly high grade finds in the past. Brownfield sites usually come with more risk than people realise. There is a trade-off. Alistair explains why he prefers to drill greenfield sites. Headwater Gold is focused on high-grade epithermal veins in the Great Basin area of Nevada. There are twelve projects to explore in Nevada.
