In this episode, we chat with Peter Dembicki, President and CEO of Tier One Silver which is an exploration company that was spun out from Auryn Resources in 2020. In this episode, we chat to Paul Cronin, MD, and CEO of Adriatic Metals, an ASX and LSE-listed precious and base metals explorer and developer that owns the world-class Vares silver project in Bosnia and the Raska zinc deposit in Serbia. We talk about current financing for mining companies and in particular, the royalty and streaming model that is becoming increasingly popular in the mining industry. Jody gives us an update on what has been happening since we last spoke back in October 2020 in episode 98. We also cover the recent approval of their Media Luna Project. KEY TAKEAWAYS In just a few years Torex has grown to become the second-largest gold producer in Mexico. They run open pits and underground mines as well as an integrated mill and processing plant. Work on their new Media Luna, a gold, silver, and copper project, in Guerrero, is progressing well. Not being realistic about CapEx is a bad habit the industry has gotten into, which is undermining investor confidence. Torex has been extra careful to be realistic about the CapEx, e.g., factoring in true inflation. El Lion and Guajes are still producing well. Seventy-five percent of their land package is still to be explored. For mining companies’ culture is vital. It is a hugely complex industry that relies on good relationships with so many others. It takes a lot of work to get to the stage where employees turn up and willingly do their best, but it pays huge dividends for everyone. Torex takes a different approach to culture than many mining companies, which Jody explains in detail, during the episode. If the industry wants diversity, “hiring from the club” has to stop. Peter is a mining engineer and mineral economist with a background in operations and management and more recently in executive management. He talks to us about Alicanto Minerals and their historic Sala project plus what it’s like to mine in Sweden. In this episode, we chat to Jo Battershill, MD, and CEO of Anglesey Mining - a UK mining listed company that is listed on the LSE (and soon to be AIM). It has interests in Wales, Sweden, and Canada. The main property is their Parys Mountain project in Wales. It hosts a significant polymetallic zinc, copper, lead, silver, and gold deposit. Jo has a mining geology background but has also worked in finance and has a well-rounded career and more recently worked in a non-executive capacity for a few mining entities. It is easier, faster, and cheaper to extract Rare Earth Elements (REEs) from clay than it is from hard rock ore. Adsorption clay deposits give you a different basket of metals. Heavy Rare Earth Elements are used across multiple sectors including zero-carbon, medical, military, and EVs. Without heavy rare earths, you cannot have the permanent magnet motors the electric vehicle and offshore wind industries need. Thirty-three percent of their production is magnetic rare earths. Ionic liquids technology is making separation far faster and easier. Ionic Rare Earths are also involved in developing technology that recycles spent magnets. Demand for rare earths will increase drastically in the next 10 years. Without magnet rare earths, net-zero goals cannot be achieved.
