Accused Killer, Vegas Politician, Cries in Court After Stabbing Reporter For Exposing Alleged Sex Affair
Jeff German, a Las Vegas Review-Journal Investigative Reporter, is found dead outside his home. Now his alleged killer cries in court. Days later, cops release surveillance video of a possible suspect in a wide-brimmed straw hat, an orange safety shirt, and black pants walking near the scene. More investigation revealed that German's reporting put him at odds with elected Public Administrator, Robert Telles. Earlier this year, German reported that Telles created a toxic work environment and was having an extra-marital affair with an employee. These claims seem to have cost Telles his re-election bid. Investigators searched Robert Telles' home, towing a red SUV, and finding shoes with apparent blood on them. A straw hat matching the one shown in the video was also found. Both articles had been cut up in an effort to destroy evidence, but DNA under German's fingernails told police everything they needed to know. Telles has been arrested for German's murder, and held without bail. FIEND Hog-Ties Victim With Christmas Lights, Sex Assaults Her After Tricking Daughter to 'Crack Window'
Alisa Mathewson and her estranged husband Trevor Summers had been going through a bitter divorce. The couple had five children. There were allegations that Summers was obsessed and possessive, and a restraining order against him backed those allegations. Then one night Summers tricked his then-14-year-old daughter into leaving a window unlocked for him. He told he want to talk to Mathewson. Summers broke into the house and attacked Mathewson in her bedroom, holding her there for hours after sending the children to his home. Summers tied up his estranged wife with Christmas lights and then a vacuum cleaner cord. After hours of being bounded and gagged, Mathewson says she was raped twice. Summers then hogtied her and tried to smother her to death with a pillow. He then made Mathewson leave with him. Summers drove to a Walgreens, where Mathewson, with her hands tied behind her back, tried to get away. An employee saw it all and called the police. Summers was charged with two counts of attempted murder in the first degree, sexual battery, and kidnapping. Legal Heir Alex Murdaugh, Suspect in Wife & Son's Murders Names 'REAL KILLER'
Attorneys for disgraced South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh are pointing the finger at Murdaugh's cousin Curtis "Eddie" Smith. In a new court filing, the lawyers say that Smith, who reportedly failed a polygraph, should have been more rigorously investigated as a prime suspect by police. During a polygraph five months ago, Smith was asked three times about his involvement in the shootings that killed Maggie and Paul Smith. Smith replied, no, to those questions, meaning he was not involved. Police sources say Smith's answers indicate an attempt at deception. He lied. Smith has said he was “nowhere near” the property when the shootings occurred. MOM DRAINS POND HERSELF WITH SUMP PUMP TO FIND MURDERED SON WHEN SHERIFFS REFUSE
Edward Goodwin went missing in June 2015. For more than two years, his family didn't know what happened to their son. Eventually, witnesses say Goodwin had been beaten to death, his body dumped into a pond. The sheriff’s department partially drained the pond and found human hip bones, a femur bone, and some ribs. Edward Goodwin's body had been found, but the rest of his body was never recovered. This is despite assurances from law enforcement that the recovery would happen. After waiting for authorities to act, Connie Goodwin, Edward's mom, took it upon herself to get her son back. The Goodwins rented a sump pump to drain the pond themselves. As they started pumping the water out, bones could be seen sticking up through the water. The coroner was called and Edward Goodwin came home. 'Supermom' Sherri Papini Hubby 'Blindsided' by Kidnapping Hoax
New interrogation videos show Keith Papini's shock at finding out his wife's kidnapping was actually a hoax. Keith Papini described himself to investigators as "the idiot husband that stayed around the whole time." The 39-year-old mom was reported missing on November 2, and told investigators when she was found 22 days later that a pair of Hispanic women kidnapped her at gunpoint. Papini said her kidnappers abused her and then shoved her out of a car. Papini was emaciated, her hair was cut shorter, and she had cuts and bruises all over her body, but prosecutors said she caused the injuries herself. The case was broken in 2020 when DNA led investigators to Papini’s ex, who told them she had been with him the entire time. Federal prosecutors charged Papini with 34 counts of mail fraud and one count of making false statements. Papini accepted a plea deal but didn't explain why she created an elaborate kidnapping hoax, although she apologized for her actions. Since her arrest, Papini's husband has started divorce proceedings, and Sherri Papini soon begins her jail sentence. CULT MOM LORI VALLOW: New Netflix Cult Mom Hit, Will Jurors Watch?
Questions are being raised about the impact of the new Netflix documentary, "Sins of Our Mother," on Lori Vallow's chances of a fair trial. Vallow's attorneys point to media coverage surrounding the case making it impossible for that to happen. To that point, Vallow's attorneys asked the judge to ban cameras from the courtroom, saying that the privilege had been abused by repeated "zooming in on Vallow Daybell's face" during a hearing. They raised the possibility of documents being scrutinized that way as well. Jim Archibald and John Thomas also claimed the cameras and microphones could potentially be used to overhear private conversations between the attorneys and client. Seventh District Judge Steven Boyce has now ruled that cameras, both video and stills will no longer be allowed from the courtroom. Teen Sex Trafficking Victim Ordered to Pay $150,000 to Rapist's Family?
A judge has been asked to set aside his ruling that an Iowa teen must pay restitution to her rapist's family after she stabbed him dead. Pieper Lewis,15, was reportedly being sex trafficked when she killed Zachary Brooks. According to Lewis, her boyfriend pulled a knife on her and forced her to go to Zachary Brooks’ apartment in June 2020. Lewis claimed Brooks, 37, had raped her multiple times in the weeks leading up to the slaying. Once at the apartment, Brooks allegedly made Lewis get undressed, drink alcohol, and smoke marijuana while they watched a movie. Lewis admitted to stabbing Brooks 30 times, but she claimed she did not plot to kill him. Instead, she stated that she became enraged after she woke up to Brooks raping her and ignoring her pleas to stop. Lewis pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and willful injury. She was sentenced to five years of probation and was also ordered to pay $150,000 to the slain man’s family. Polk County prosecutors never denied allegations that Pieper was trafficked and a rape victim. The Des Moines Register reported that state law requires individuals convicted of homicide to pay $150,000. Polk County District Judge David M. Porter ordered the judgment, to be Brooks’ estate, after rejecting defense attorneys’ argument that he was 51 percent responsible for the deadly incident.
