Ep 94Psalm 145 (Awestruck) - Discipleship Pastor, Steve Alberts
In today's message, our Discipleship Pastor, Steve Alberts walks us through personal struggles and encourages us to put our struggles up against God's holiness and majesty. We delve into the poetic structure and personal nature of Psalm 145, highlighting God's faithfulness and transcendent perspective. We explore the tension between God's greatness and our mundane struggles, emphasizing the need to focus on God's grace and mercy. We are encouraged to ask God to teach us more about Himself through our struggles, and to focus on the importance of trusting in God's control and sovereignty.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 93Colossians 4:7-18 (Jesus Plus Nothing - Week 17)
Paul makes his final greetings here, and the temptation can be to think that there isn't much application for us today. However, what we see is how important team ministry was to the early church and therefore is for us today as well. We all have a role to play in ministry as Jesus expresses His life through us.Colossians 4:7-18... 7 Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant a in the Lord. 8 I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts. 9 He is coming with Onesimus, our faithful and dear brother, who is one of you. They will tell you everything that is happening here. 10 My fellow prisoner Aristarchus sends you his greetings, as does Mark, the cousin of Barnabas. (You have received instructions about him; if he comes to you, welcome him.) 11 Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my co-workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me. 12 Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. 13 I vouch for him that he is working hard for you and for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis. 14 Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings. 15 Give my greetings to the brothers and sisters at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house. 16 After this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read in the church of the Laodiceans and that you in turn read the letter from Laodicea. 17 Tell Archippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.” 18 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Go to https://www.colonialhills.com/im-new/Want to Discover LIFE in Christ? Ep 92Colossians 4:2-6 (Week 16 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
How do we approach outsiders when the church is becoming a minority in the culture we live in? The early church was certainly a minority in their culture, and in this section, Paul has something to say being wise in the way we act towards those outside the church.Colossians 4:2-6...2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Ep 91Colossians 3:18-4:1 (Week 15 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
The gospel transforms the way we do relationships within our homes. As Paul continues this practical section, he outlines how being a new creation in Christ applies to being a husband, wife, parent, and child.Colossians 3:18-4:1...18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. 22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism. 4 Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven. Ep 90Colossians 3:15-17 (Week 14 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
As Paul continues to make practical applications that flow from our new life in Christ, he tells us to allow peace to rule in our hearts, let the message of Christ dwell among us, and do everything in the name of the Lord.Colossians 3:15-17... 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Ep 89Colossians 3:12-14 (Week 13 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
As Paul continues to make practical application to our new life in Christ, he teaches us to put on the clothes of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love. These clothes are an outworking of the new creation we become in Christ at the moment of salvation.Colossians 3:12-14...12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 88Colossians 3:5-11 (Week 12 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
In this section, Paul begins the practical section of the letter by giving us a list of things not to do as new creations in Christ. These commands are not prescriptions to be a better Christian but rather descriptions of who we are as new creations in Christ.Colossians 3:5-11... 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11 Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. Ep 87Colossians 3:1-4 (Week 11 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
What does it mean to set your hearts and minds above? What does it mean that your life is now hidden with Christ in God? We answer those questions in this sermon!Colossians 3:1-4... Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 86John 20 - The Empty Tomb (Easter Sunday)
The resurrection changes everything! On the 3rd day after Jesus' death on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, Jesus was raised from the dead. He defeated the power of sin and death forever, and He offers us forgiveness and eternal life by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.John 20:30-31... 30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 85Palm Sunday (Matthew 21:1-11)
On Palm Sunday, the crowd welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem seemed to be submitting to Him as their King, the long-awaited, promised Messiah; however, just a few days later they cried out "Crucify Him, crucify Him!" They were looking for peace from the oppression of Rome when Jesus came to provide peace between humanity and God.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 83Colossians 2:16-23 (Week 10 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)

Ep 82Colossians 2:8-15 (Week 9 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
We are often tempted to follow a "Jesus plus" gospel rather than trust in the sufficiency of Christ. In this section of Colossians, Paul teaches us that are complete in Christ and not lacking in any way. We need not depend on hollow and deceptive philosophies that depend on human traditions and the elemental spiritual forces of this world. Colossians 2:8-10... 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 81Colossians 2:6-7 (Week 8 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
Paul gives his first command (imperative) of the letter in verse 6. He tells them and us to walk in Christ, but what does that mean? Well, Paul gives 4 participles that describe what it looks like to walk in Him.Colossians 2:6-7... 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him (walk in Him), 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 80Colossians 2:1-5 (Week 7 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
Satan will use fine-sounding arguments to deceive us of the truth. Colossians 2 shows us that if we understand the fullness of Christ and the treasure of wisdom and knowledge found in Him, we will not fall for the false teaching of a "Jesus Plus Gospel."Colossians 2:1-5...I want you to know how hard I am contending for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. 2 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. 5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is. Ep 79Colossians 1:24-29 (Week 6 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
Hope is not found in better situations or circumstances but rather in Christ, the hope of glory. Paul says that Christ in you, the hope of glory is the message that he proclaims so that you'll be presented complete in Him.Colossians 1:24-29... 24 Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. 25 I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness—26 the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. 27 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me. Ep 77Colossians 1:15-20 (Week 4 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
The apostle Paul makes sure that we know the truth about Jesus. Nothing is more important because if our view of Jesus is skewed then it could have implications on our salvation and eternal destiny and how we live the Christian life.Colossians 1:15-20...15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Ep 76Colossians 1:9-14 (Week 3 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
Sermon: You Already Have an AIf God were handing out grades based on how you are doing in the Christian life, what would your grade be? Many of us have this mentality where we are earning points for the good things we are doing and having points deducted for the bad things we are doing, but Colossians 1:9-14 reveals the truth that we are already qualified, have been rescued, and are in the Kingdom. It sounds like you already have an A.Colossians 1:12-14...12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Ep 74Colossians Introduction (Week 1 - Jesus Plus Nothing Series)
The book of Colossians was written to show the superiority of Christ over all human philosophies and traditions, all human opinions and preferences, and personalities and accomplishments. It was a superiority so overwhelming, so devastating, so infinite, that we can hold unreservedly to this conclusion…Jesus plus nothing equals everything – and everything minus Jesus equals nothing!” (Tullian Tchividjian)Colossians 2:8-10... Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. They understood that even though Jesus was a toddler at the time, He was the One who was before all things and who holds all things together. The only proper response to being in the presence of The Almighty God is to bow down and worship Him. It's our only response as well.Matthew 2:11 - On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 70Matthew 1:18-25 (Week 2 - A Thrill of Hope Christmas Series)
Many experts today say that we are in an epidemic of loneliness and that it is leading to more mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. We are not meant to be alone, and in Matthew 1:18-25, we see that the God of the universe left the glory and riches of heaven to be with you. He is Emmanuel, God with us. If you have accepted Jesus' free gift of salvation by faith you are never alone.Matthew 1:22 - All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). Ep 69Matthew 1:1-17 (Week 1 - A Thrill of Hope Christmas Series)
Many of us tend to skip over reading the genealogy sections of Scripture; however, in the opening verses of Matthew's gospel, we experience a thrill of hope as we see the fulfillment of covenant promises made in the Old Testament.A Thrill of Hope Christmas Message Series - Week 1 (Mt 1:1-17).CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 68One Mind - One Purpose
We as the Church are urged to be of one mind and one purpose. Satan seeks to devour and divide the Church through lies and deception. The writers of the New Testament Scriptures appeal for us to let there be no divisions among us and to live in the unity Christ purchased for us on the cross.1 Corinthians 1:10 - 10 Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in agreement and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same purpose.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 67Thanksgiving and Praise (Worship Matters - Week 5)
Giving thanks is at the very heart of what it means to worship. It's impossible to worship without a spirit of thanksgiving. To worship means to live a lifestyle of thanksgiving in all areas of your life.Colossians 3:15-17…15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.Ephesians 5:18-21...18 …be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 66Event and Everyday (Worship Matters - Week 4)
Worship is both an event and an everyday experience. After gathering as the Church for corporate worship, we are sent out as the Church to worship every day of our individual lives. We are Jesus' instruments, and as His Life is expressed through us, He receives glory, honor, and praise. All areas of our lives become an opportunity to worship the Lord our God!Romans 12:1-2: I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 65Vertical & Horizontal (Worship Matters - Week 3)
There is a vertical and horizontal aspect of worship. We worship a transcendent God who exists above and independent of His creation, but we are brought together as the Church for corporate worship. Jesus works through our horizontal relationships to express worship to God.2 Peter 1:9 - But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Corinthians 14:26 - When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up...CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Go to https://www.colonialhills.com/im-new/Want to Discover LIFE in Christ? Ep 64Head vs. Heart (Worship Matters - Week 2)
Worship involves both our head and our heart. Most of us lean towards head worship or heart worship, but the Holy Spirit will lead us to worship God with our minds and our emotions. How does this apply to you today?John 4:24 - God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 63Transcendence vs. Immanence (Worship Matters - Week 1)
Worship requires participation. It's a response to who God is, and your view of God will determine how you worship. God is both immanent and transcendent, and understanding those concepts will affect the way you worship Him.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 61Serve One Another (Week 5 - One Another Series)
In the last message in our One Another series, we talk about how Jesus frees us from our bondage to our flesh and selfishness, and in Him, we have a new heart that wants to serve others.Galatians 5:13 - You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 60Accept One Another (Week 4 - One Another Series)
Scripture teaches us to accept one another despite our differences. The church is not a group of people who all look the same, talk the same, vote the same way, or even believe all of the exact same things. The church is made up of all sorts of different people who have Jesus in common. As we accept one another, it brings praise, glory, and honor to God.Romans 15:7 - Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

Ep 59Encourage One Another (Week 3 - One Another Series)
A sincere word of encouragement can make a huge impact on our lives and the lives of others, and The God of Encouragement (Romans 15:5) came to dwell in you to be an encouragement to you and to use you to be an encourager to others.1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Encourage one another and build one another up, just as in fact you are doing.

Ep 58Forgive One Another (Week 2 - One Another Series)
Forgiving someone is not always easy, but as a new creation in Christ, we are to forgive one another as the Lord forgave us. Being completely forgiven and justified in Christ is what frees us to be able to forgive and reconcile.

Ep 57Love One Another (Week 1 - One Another Series)
There are 59 one another passages in the New Testament. Love one another is listed more than any of the others. Today we lay the foundation for this series and talk about what it looks like to love one another.

Ep 56Vision Sunday - In the Community FOR the Community
The church is in the community to FOR the community. We do not exist for ourselves. The feeding of the 5,000 (Mark 6:30-44) shows us how Jesus has compassion for those in the community, will use us to meet needs, is the One who satisfies, and provides abundantly.

Ep 55James 5:12-20 (Week 9 - Faith in Action)
In James final section of Scripture, he teaches about prayer. Pray when you have trouble, pray when you are happy, pray when you are sick, pray for those who are lost. He says that the prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective.

Ep 54James 5:7-11 (Week 8 - Faith in Action)
We all face hardships and difficult situations in life. In this passage, James shows how to face those tough times in our life. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, and we don't have to walk through these times alone.

Ep 53James 4:11-5:6 (Week 7 - Faith in Action Series)
In this passage, James talks about slander, arrogant planning, and riches. When we are walking in pride and in our flesh, what gets manifested is slander, boasting in our self-made plans, and trusting in money for security and satisfaction. But when we fix our minds on Christ and who we are in Him, our speech is uplifting, we trust in God's plan for our lives, and He is our security and satisfaction.

Ep 52James 3:13-4:10 (Week 6 - Faith in Action Series)
In this episode, James teaches us that there are 2 kinds of wisdom: an unspiritual, earthly, demonic type of wisdom and the wisdom that is from above (comes from God). As we walk in the Spirit and are guided by God's wisdom there will be certain characteristics manifested through us: peace-loving, consideration of others, mutual submission, mercy, impartiality, and sincerity.

Ep 51James 3:1-12 (Week 5 - Faith in Action Series)
In this episode, James shows us the power of our words. Our speech can influence the direction of our lives, destroy our lives and the lives of others, and bring life and healing to ourselves and others.

Ep 50This is My Father's World
Pastor Steve Alberts dives into Acts 17 and how Paul makes the argument that this is my Father's world. He is the Creator of all things. He has authority, and we can trust Him as our loving Father and Creator. This gives us meaning and purpose.

Ep 49James 2:14-26 (Week 4 - Faith in Action Series)
In this episode, James discusses faith and works. He says that faith without works is dead and that we are justified by works. How does that reconcile with Paul and being justified by grace alone? What does it mean to say that faith without works is dead? Well, it doesn't mean "no faith," and yes, we are justified by grace alone by faith alone in Christ alone.

Ep 48James 2:1-13 (Week 3 - Faith in Action Series)
In this episode, James shows us that showing favoritism and discrimination are inconsistent with who we are as new creations in Christ. As we live out our faith, it will lead to actions that show love to all people.

Ep 47James 1:19-27 (Week 2 - Faith in Action Series)
James teaches us that there is an outworking of our salvation that will lead us to control our speech, help helpless people, and keep us from being influenced by the ways of the world.CONNECT WITH USAre you new to Colonial Hills? Ep 46James 1:1-18 (Week 1 - Faith in Action Series)
James teaches us that when we face trials to count them as joy because they develop perseverance. As we persevere through trials with our eyes fixed on Jesus, He uses them to show us that our Life is found in Him and not in our situations and circumstances.
