Paul makes his final greetings here, and the temptation can be to think that there isn't much application for us today. However, what we see is how important team ministry was to the early church and therefore is for us today as well. We all have a role to play in ministry as Jesus expresses His life through us.Colossians 4:7-18... 7 Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. How do we approach outsiders when the church is becoming a minority in the culture we live in? The gospel transforms the way we do relationships within our homes. As Paul continues this practical section, he outlines how being a new creation in Christ applies to being a husband, wife, parent, and child.Colossians 3:18-4:1...18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. 22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. As Paul continues to make practical application to our new life in Christ, he teaches us to put on the clothes of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love. In this section, Paul begins the practical section of the letter by giving us a list of things not to do as new creations in Christ. We are often tempted to follow a "Jesus plus" gospel rather than trust in the sufficiency of Christ. In this section of Colossians, Paul teaches us that are complete in Christ and not lacking in any way. We need not depend on hollow and deceptive philosophies that depend on human traditions and the elemental spiritual forces of this world. Paul gives his first command (imperative) of the letter in verse 6. He tells them and us to walk in Christ, but what does that mean? Satan will use fine-sounding arguments to deceive us of the truth. Hope is not found in better situations or circumstances but rather in Christ, the hope of glory. The apostle Paul makes sure that we know the truth about Jesus. When the Magi walked into the presence of Jesus their response was to bow down and worship Him. They understood that even though Jesus was a toddler at the time, He was the One who was before all things and who holds all things together. Scripture teaches us to accept one another despite our differences. The church is not a group of people who all look the same, talk the same, vote the same way, or even believe all of the exact same things. The church is made up of all sorts of different people who have Jesus in common. As we accept one another, it brings praise, glory, and honor to God.Romans 15:7 - Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

A sincere word of encouragement can make a huge impact on our lives and the lives of others, and The God of Encouragement (Romans 15:5) came to dwell in you to be an encouragement to you and to use you to be an encourager to others.1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Encourage one another and build one another up, just as in fact you are doing.

Forgiving someone is not always easy, but as a new creation in Christ, we are to forgive one another as the Lord forgave us. Being completely forgiven and justified in Christ is what frees us to be able to forgive and reconcile.

There are 59 one another passages in the New Testament. Love one another is listed more than any of the others. Today we lay the foundation for this series and talk about what it looks like to love one another.

The church is in the community to FOR the community. We do not exist for ourselves. The feeding of the 5,000 (Mark 6:30-44) shows us how Jesus has compassion for those in the community, will use us to meet needs, is the One who satisfies, and provides abundantly.

In James final section of Scripture, he teaches about prayer. Pray when you have trouble, pray when you are happy, pray when you are sick, pray for those who are lost. He says that the prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective.

We all face hardships and difficult situations in life. In this passage, James shows how to face those tough times in our life. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, and we don't have to walk through these times alone.

In this passage, James talks about slander, arrogant planning, and riches. When we are walking in pride and in our flesh, what gets manifested is slander, boasting in our self-made plans, and trusting in money for security and satisfaction. But when we fix our minds on Christ and who we are in Him, our speech is uplifting, we trust in God's plan for our lives, and He is our security and satisfaction.

In this episode, James teaches us that there are 2 kinds of wisdom: an unspiritual, earthly, demonic type of wisdom and the wisdom that is from above (comes from God). As we walk in the Spirit and are guided by God's wisdom there will be certain characteristics manifested through us: peace-loving, consideration of others, mutual submission, mercy, impartiality, and sincerity.

In this episode, James shows us the power of our words. Our speech can influence the direction of our lives, destroy our lives and the lives of others, and bring life and healing to ourselves and others.

Pastor Steve Alberts dives into Acts 17 and how Paul makes the argument that this is my Father's world. He is the Creator of all things. He has authority, and we can trust Him as our loving Father and Creator. This gives us meaning and purpose.

In this episode, James discusses faith and works. He says that faith without works is dead and that we are justified by works. How does that reconcile with Paul and being justified by grace alone? What does it mean to say that faith without works is dead? Well, it doesn't mean "no faith," and yes, we are justified by grace alone by faith alone in Christ alone.

In this episode, James shows us that showing favoritism and discrimination are inconsistent with who we are as new creations in Christ. As we live out our faith, it will lead to actions that show love to all people.

James teaches us that when we face trials to count them as joy because they develop perseverance. As we persevere through trials with our eyes fixed on Jesus, He uses them to show us that our Life is found in Him and not in our situations and circumstances.
